rom cooking question - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have successfully cooked my first rom and now i want to know how to swap out kernels. From what i read in chef thread is all you need to do is unpack the boot.img and insert the zimage of the kernel that i want to insert. I did this and then repacked the boot.img. I installed rom and it booted up fine, wifi did not work. So next i just flashed the kernel separate to check if thats what was wrong, it worked fine once booted and connected to wifi fine. What step did i miss or was there additional files i was supposed to move?
The rom i am working on is the newest mysense leak with the stock kernel. I am trying to put in tdj's v7 sense kernel.

You need to also unpack the kernel modules and put them in the system/lib/modules folder for WiFi to connect without flashing a kernel.

You're missing the wifi module located in system/lib/modules it should be named bcm429 or something. Can't remember off the top of my head

He doesn't want to install a ROM he needs the boot.img in an update.zip that he can flash in clockwork. Also, ROM Manager doesn't fully support our device.

ROMs in Kitchen not having radio.img

I've been trying out dsixda's rom kitchen for the past few days and there's something that I don't know why keeps happenning. Each time I import a full stock rom, with a radio.img included, it ends up not having the radio once it's built (even when I open up the rom info, it says there's no radio--that's before modifying it)
Any ideas? Found nothing so far.
EDIT: if a mod could move this to Q&A... thanks

Xbox controller support in modded stock rom?

As the title says, can I take the modules from vegacomb an run them on the modded stock Rom? And if so, does a person experienced in module tampering fancy helping me?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
You mean the ".ko" module files?
If that is the case then you need "su" & "BusyBox" and then try to run in android terminal:
su
insmod /sdcard/path-to-module/your-module.ko
But I also think that your kernel needs to support all this, so you also might need a custom kernel.
Yes, I mean the .ko modules. Forgot about the kernel! Corvus was a 2.2 based Rom, and that had Xbox pad support. I will have to look into this some more.
If I can't sort it, I may drop back to corvus.
Thanks for the install method.

Hi,
thank you for this work!
Anyway I have to ask you something about your custom rom.
Does your Rom have the quick settings widget in the status bar?
Did you fix the accelerometer problem? For example if you try to move on the street view (of Google Maps) with the compass mode, you understand that the accelerometer has a problem.
Can you explain what problems you solved from the stock 512 Gingerbread 2.3.5 rom from Huawei?
Thank you in advance,
regards,

the rom doesn't have the quick setting widget...but the current release is only the aplha0.
i have just tried with an app called "accelerometer test" if the accelerometer works but seems that it doesn't.
from stock B512 i have not solved any problem because, using it for a month, i have not found any kind of problem. mainly i have edited the build.prop and i have added some scripts to improve performance.

I know well your work, cause i own an O1 p500,,,,,but i don't use anyone cause i didn't wanted to change baseband with lgtool and i stay with mik's rom....and btw for O1 there are plenty of good roms to use.......
PS...i made a lot of changes on 3 weeks which i own u8800 pro and i made a really fast and fully functional stock rom 2.2.2,,,,i delete about 14 system apps ,edited build.prop, created init.d folder, some other modds and a little theming,,,,and i like it very much ........maybe i create a thread and a video to saw people how good stock rom can be made......
As you understand it's very difficult for me to change baseband,as i still couldn't found a way to downgrade again if i don't like the new baseband.......and i want to have my fm radio not loose it.....
Someone must cook a rom for .32 kernel(old baseband)

[Need help] Wifi problem on HD2 using NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.5

I've just downloaded the newest HD2' rom NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.5 (Kernel: tytung_HWA_r3.2) from this thread http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860. After trying it, there's a problem with turning on wifi. I turned it on, it say "turning on" and nothing happen then. I did some search on the forum but i couldn't find anything. I had installed AOKP CM9 build 40 before and got the same problem. My device is HD2 EU and wifi works well with all Gingerbread rom.
Would any one please tell me if there is any solution to fix it. Thanks for advance.
Hello,
You need this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445766
This problem is only present in Ice Cream Sandwich, that's why you haven't faced it before in Gingerbread.
Good luck,

I've read the guiding on that thread, and I've tried that. But nothing happened, the issue wasn't solved. My problem is that wifi couldn't turn on. I thinks It seem to relate to hardware problem. Do you have any idea about this?

I also tried another ICS rom recently released and I faced with the same problem.Every time I press wifi button to turn it on, the button turns to on but not blue as usual, it grey, and it say "Turning Wifi on" for a while then turns off. :crying:
It never turns on:crying: . I tried an older ICS rom, and this is the only one that wifi work PARANOIDANDROID HD2 v1.0, later PARANOIDANDROIDs have the same problem! I wonder if there is problem with the kenal or something likes that ???

That's why you must read the steps properly.
1. Unzip the file
2. Put fw_bcm4329.bin on the sd card.
3. Now open root explorer or root browser (allow superuser request) on phone and move fw_bcm4329.bin from sd card to system/vendor/firmware.
A dialog box will appear click yes.
4. Now reboot phone and switch on wifi.
Edit: If this still doesnt work. Use tytung's kernel r3 and then follow the above steps

Did you flash tytung kernel following this instruction?
Edit: Which rom did you flash successfully? I've tried EvoHd2IcsV9x, Unofficial-cm10-hd2(jellybean) and aokp b40, but I still can't turn on WIFI.
However, it better than before, that the system will ask me to turn on WIFI when the first boot configuration. (but can't turn on too.)
No, i flash directly the zip file. Following these steps:
1. Flash your new rom first.
2. Download tytung kernel r2.3 from link in his profile.
3. Open the .zip file (not unzip) and replace the file initrd.gz in \kernel\boot\ with the one in your rom (open .zip rom and it's also in \kernel\boot\). You have to do this step otherwise wifi wont work.
4. Flash the kernel via recovery.
5. Enjoy
Almost new HD2 ICS rom use tytung kernel r3, r3.1 & r3.2 and wifi not work for me. So i try to flash the newest release and downgrade the kernel to r2.3 and wifi work well.
P/s: i havent tried Cm10 yet.
