Camcoder ICS Passion 10.6 - Vibrant General

720p and 480p lags seriously.
I tried the kernel: Eugen's and Nelson.
All the way or something I'm wrong?

Neo first off, you're awesome. Thanks for your work. I'm looking forward to a stable camcorder but the lock screen is the only thing I really need working. Quick question, which kernel is best to fix lock screen bug? I'm on Eugene's but still get it occasionally:/ is there any certain CPU and governor/IO settings I should use? Thanks so much!

Thank you for your reply! I look forward to the next version!
In general, great job!
get a couple of bucks....

NeoBuddy89... AMAZING WORK!!!!! There are still a few things here and there that FC and cause the phone to stutter a bit, but this is the BEST ROM I've ever used. I flashed v9.2 sometime last week and the battery was really bad. It died on me a few times over-night and that was with Airplane-Mode on! Eek! But I charged it to 100% each time that happened... you know, I kind of did in imprompt-to re-conditioning on my battery. Well... I flashed v10 on Thursday and the battery last for over 2 days with moderate use (turned Airplane-Mode on each night... roughly 6 to 7 hours). WOW! I have screen-shots to prove it... but I can't post them yet. (DUMB) I was simply amazed!
I just flashed v10.6 (I LOVE the "no-wipe" feature this ROM has... BRAVO!) so I'll see how the battery does on this build. Great job to everyone working on this ROM! Keep up the amazing work!
Ok... now to my point -P)... with the camcorder, I can't use the effects. After I hit any of the effects to use them, the APP freezes and the camcorder FC's.

I see the same issue with the camera FC when I change the resolution. When I open the camera back up the resolution changed however. I haven't seen much about this particular FC. I have started to wonder if it's just me and maybe a handfull of others.

Neo please add zoom to camera if possible in next release . Thanks for the best vibrant from .

this is great to hear.
the video recording is pretty much the only major issue for my use case.
other than that, the rom is completely beyond my expectations! thanks for your work!

This ROM has been much faster than past versions I have tried. But funny thing is each time I reflash (wuth clear cache/dalvik, format system) problems get fixed and/or new ones crop up.
First time, battery was horrendous. Didnt bother with any other function. After trying to get batt to work for 2 days, decided to reflash.
Second time, battery got better but not as much as many have reported (lasted about 8 hours on light usage). GPS did not work. Music did not work. Camera and Camcorder were good (as in working).
Third attempt, today, GPS working (at least on first try). Music working. Monitoring battery. Camera crashes each time I change resolution. Same on camcorder. Sometimes when I invoke camera, the screen goes blank except for top taskbar. Video playback is choppy, but not too bad.

For the GPS try this method to see if it help.

My SGS Experience and some queries

Hello everybody,
I didn't think I'd be writing this thread. I mean, owning a SGS is a dream come true for me. But I came to know that the reality is not as good as my dream.
First, let me start with the PLUS/Advantages
--> Obviously, the best screen I've ever seen till date.
--> Feels very thing and light, though a bit large, definitely its pocketable and handy (IMHO).
--> Android 2.1 interface rocks! Superb Visuals unlike iOS and very user friendly.
--> Android Market
--> Superb Default Browser
-->Very Very Responsive, just like the iphone.
--> Great hardware - Still couldn't belie it is able to play 720p videos with more than 6mbps bitrate.
--> Excellent Video camera - 720p video recording is so cool!
--> Excellent NIGHT mode!
--> Dedicated SGS section at XDA
Now, the MINUSes/ Disadvantages.
--> Initially I thought, only the lack of flash and the iphone like model are the only bad things about this phone.
--> LAG, LAG, LAG, LAG! As the usage days increases, the lag increases gradually. And I'm unable to get rid of the lag.
And what's most annoying is that, even the telephony and messaging application is lagging (android could've atleast reserved some permanent resources for both of these apps, as they are the ACTUAL PHONE apps.)
--> Battery - Still I'm not sure whether it is a good battery or not. But I'm definitely disappointed. All of my friends used to have a probem with their smartphone, if they use the features of their phone, the battery won't even last a day. But before buying SGS, I read in various reviews about its great battery life. So I thought, I can use all the features of this phone and it'll last atleast a day or more. But if I use the features of this phone, then battery won't even last for a day. But if I use it like a normal phone, the battery is good (But who wants that? I need to use those features, that's why I've put so much money into this box )
--> Samsung. I guess I'll be stuck with what I have. No official updates, no fixes, no nothing.
P.S: If any one of you can help me out with my problems with LAG and share some tips on battery improvement, IT'D BE GR8!! (Of course, I did see the threads regarding tips, but still...)
lag fix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724251
Battery
Fully charge battery, then use it until it is completely discharged, recharge fully, that is one cycle.
After you have done five complete cycles your battery should be conditioned and give you longer between charges.
My phone lasted about 8 hours when I first got it, after three cycles it's now lasting 24 hours between charges.
Hope that helps.

@ AllGamer - Thanks for the link mate. I've seen that earlier, but I'm too noobish to try that out. I'm waiting for an OFFICIAL samsung firmware update. So that, if anything happens while updating that firmware, I could still claim my warranty

Just update your firmware to JM2 and all your lag problems will be gone. Seriously, i had 4 different firmwares and can honestly say, that JM2 is lag free. It also comes with a samsung provided task manager(long press home now includes a button to sammy task manager).
Updating firmware is so easy, and you can't brick your phone(honestly).
There's no harm in flashing, since there are now stock firmwares available, so you can go back if you want to return the phone in future. Why wait for the official update?
@buddy01 - thats very convincing. I'd like to do that. But this phone is my 3 month salary - I wouldn't dare to spoil it in anyway. Of course, it makes sense, when you say 'NO BRICK + REVERSIBLE FIRMWARE'... But still . . . .
BTW, is the thread mentioned by AllGamer ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724251) is JM2 firmware??

No, that's the mimocan lag fix, which in my honest opinion is not needed anymore since JM2.
If i were you, i would just go with the JM2 and see if that's fast enough for you (is for me) and if not then try the lag fix.
All i can say is that im 99,9% sure you won't brick your phone if you flash your firmware like everyone else.
I am running JM2 with the lag fix. And my phone is still laggy as hell.

Must be some crappy configuration, app, something messing it up. Mine is Flash Gordon fast. I don't know if the fact that i use launcherPro instead of Touch(lag)Wiz, make any difference. It might also be that something is changed in latest (JM1,JM2) firmwares in such a way that mimocan fix is actually a burden now. Who knows, but im lag free, honestly.

Strange. I too use Launcher Pro. What I experience is this.. I press to open an app.. The app starts to open but seems to freeze midway for a second or two, sometimes longer. Even when I try to enter the settings menu I get this lag.
Another strange thing is that sometimes when in an app the screen returns to home screen as if the back button has been pressed. I reenter the app but instantly I am returned to home screen. I try another app.. Same thing. Only when I turn the screen off and on again will I be able to open an app..
Very weird..

Something is definetly wrong with your setup. i would do a factory reset and/or do the flashing again with re-partition and forget the lag fix.
Only app that takes 2 to 4 seconds to open in some occasions is gallery, and that is if i open it the first time (fresh boot or killed with task manager). everything else i commonly use, such as dialer one, handsentSMS, app draw, camera, gmail, market, youtube, browser, maps, contacts ... all open instantly.
The other problem your experiencing, i have never heard of. Must be some app acting wrong or things got messed up because of the mimocan fix. Honestly i would do a factory reset and then re-flash JM2 and forget the mimocan fix.
Yeah perhaps you´re right. I think I will.. Thanks.

I repeated the procedure this time with mimocan fix on EXT4. I now rate 1592 in quadrant and the phone is smooth as hell..
I haven't tried mimocan fix yet sounded very good, but rather complicated and requires Odin's flashing the phone.
My current galaxy is rooted and I install AutoKiller to better manage the memories. So far so good, lag are kept at the minimal. This procedure to me is far simpler and give acceptable performance.
Mimocan is the most complicated because in addition to odin flashing the kernel (not the entire firmware), you must also partition an external sd card and make some changes to the filesystem with an terminal program.
Mimocan gives you the best quadrant score atm, but after seeing a video of it in work, i can without a doubt say that my phone is just as fast with the newest jm2 firmware only.

SGS 3 days on......

Now that I have had a few days playing with my new phone I thought I would leave some feedback.
Firstly the screen is amazing! I have had several iphone4 owners grovelling at it.
Swype is a touch of genius! I am using it now to type this and its fast as hell!
The battery usage is pretty severe compared to what I expected! Does apps like juice defender work?
Gps is flakey! My tracks was bouncing all over the place, so I guess I am joining the rest of you praying for a firmware fix. I will try co pilot tomorrow to see if its usable.
Lag was a problem, however have been using advanced task manager and it seems to help. I know rooting is supposed to be better with autokiller, but I believe rooting invalidates your warranty? Also, when I reboot my phone I have about 150mb free, but after a days use using adv task man I only have 55ish.
Anyhow in all I am happy with the phone, just need to work on the gps and lag.
Btw, how do I figure out my firmware number?

in settings, about, and somewhere down the line.
You should be really restrictive when killing processes. Use the ignorelist for just about everything that might be used somehow by something.
Example, start the camera and it can take 2 - 4 sec to be ready to shoot. Have it idling in the background and its up in a split second. This goes for everything.
The onlu thing I kill is games, market and some other useless stuff i tend to run sometimes. Remember: you dont need a lot of free memory, for a quick phone you need your often-used-apps idling and loaded in mem.

Similar to my imrpessions in the first days. Screen is outstanding, the only reason I keep wanting to keep the phone. Swype is nice but didn't get used to it.. still type faster on my Nokia E72...but that is a matter of practicing.
GPS.. *sigh*. No comments. It is useless.
Also the lag was annoying but I won't complain much on that since I never tried any of the unofficial fixes.... still, out of the box it is a problem, definitely something Samsung didn't polish well enough.
Plenty of lag and memory fixes available.

yeah theres a decent amount of lag out of the box, but TONS of fixes available
About the battery, OP, wait untill you pass 5-7 initial charge cycles. Battery time increases twofold or more.
On my first battery cycle, it wasted out in around 11 hours.
Now i get more than 2 days of heavy use, and up to 6 of light use.

Your SGS must be really different from mine, perhaps even one of the 6 units that were released in proper shape worldwide. Hang on to it.
Not only you have no GPS issues but you also have no lag.
Mine has no GPS and it lags on the stock ROM (JM2)
Sure. There are lag fixes. And you can always buy an external GPS unit for only 150€ or so.
I just have the nasty habit of presuming I won't need to fix anything right after unpackaging and booting or pay more after spitting out 599€ for a "cutting edge" smartphone.
Customers... always so ungrateful and never pleased. /spit.

I really hope your right, as mine is still not great tbh.
I will try ultimate juice to see if that helps..
Should I be doing anything in specific in the charge cycles? i.e letting it fully discharge, or anything else?
Ref Lag;
I did experience it out of the box, but only after using lots of multiple apps. I found that task killer fixed the problem, and I have not tried any other fixes.
However I still cant understand my RAM usage.
150MB free on boot, which then decreases to 130MB after say an hour.
2+ Hours later I am down into the 90's...and after 8+ hours into the 60's.
This is using task killer regular enough...so not sure why it happens.
Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.
Mine could sometimes take up to 10 seconds to open the phone app on the stock rom. Very annoying. Especially when there's an incoming call and you can't answer because the answer key just won't show up. Now I'm running the jg5 rom and samset 1.6 rom. And everything is lightning fast now. Faster than my iphone 4.
Using the Galaxy S as well for a while now. The phone is AWESOME. After the lagfix this is the best android device I ever messed with. I thought I would want to change the launcher but after getting used to the iPhone like design, touchwiz is actually one of the best skins I have seen. Rotates both ways, you can change the order of the homescreens easily and you can have as many as you want up to 7. It offers some cool widgets just like Sense does and the menu can be all reorganized and not be mixed up by alphabetical order. Even the built in keyboard is awesome for me. Fits with the rest of the design and its multitouch enabled. And you have Swype preinstalled if you want that as well. The camera is awesome and despite the lack of flash you can still take some really decent pics with this if there is some light around.
The screen is just on the sweet spot. 4" with Super AMOLED. Im in heaven really lol.
Even my mum that is a complete iPhone addict is now surrendered to this phone capabilities. Nice job by samsung and obviously by the genius who developed the lagfix and 1 click root.

It's worth noting though that Beowulf_pt complained that reports of poor GPS and lag were the things holding him back from purchasing this phone (so I'm honestly wondering why he purchased the phone in the first place). Especially since purchasing it every post he has made seems to have been complaints about the GPS..
The Lag exists, but it doesn't make the phone unusable. Agreed it could be better, but whether it really affects anyone is questionable. It may be mostly fixable by switching scheduler and caching better. Remember, phones such as the Nexus one might be better currently, but they also shipped with a deluge of problems which are now fixed too.. Even the iPhone 4 did..
The GPS does have obvious issues (the accuracy indicator is still wrong, which to me suggests software), but other than the GPS, I am still happy with the phone. Also remember the battery issues depend on what you are running (some apps don't let the phone sleep properly).
I'm still happy to give them until Froyo to fix it. If Samsung doesn't fix it properly by then (and instead does something silly like tell us the "signal strength indicators are wrong"), then I'll try to get a refund. But at the moment, I'm willing to give them a chance.
It is surprising to read people who have no gps problems or lag issues straight out of the box, either they are very lucky and have bought fully functionaly sgs or are quite used to devices which take awhile to respond (I think it is the latter)!
Certainly there are fixes out there to improve the gps and lag issues but none have completely resolved the problem. I'm using JM5 which is working brilliantly and gps seems to work quite accurately especiallywith co-pilot no-other fix has been applied (to scared to!), the lag has also improved significantly but it does occassionaly freeze.
I'm also willing to give the boys at sammy a chance till 2.2 version is out or till Desire HD is launched, which ever comes first. Till then this is the best device out there inmho.
I too didn't notice any lag, until I installed the fixes, then the lag was noticeable as the phone was MUCH smoother.

Epic video camera = junk.

First of all, id just like to say, i love my epic, however.... i had it for almost a month and today i tried the video camera which is supposed to be good... right? Well unless im doing something wrong, it looks like crap. If anyone is moving fast it has a HUGE trail behind them. Is there something i can do to fix this issue? i have everything on max settings.

I haven't tweaked any settings and it's perfectly fine. Try deleting the Data under Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Camera > 'Clear Data'.
See if it works better that way. My playback is incredibly high quality and I don't touch any settings.
Strange I've taken quite a few vids with my Epic and never had that issue. In fact they generally turn out quite well.
do this: wave your hand infront of it and see if you can see the tracers.... thats waht im talking about... so for instance, if i record someone breakdancing or something else that they are moving fast, its ALL tracers and looks terrible. P.S. that didnt work

for real? wtf... yeah im running the eb13 ext4 with the OC kernal... so how would i go about fixing this? downgrading back to dk18?
Yeap people are downgrading back to DK18 but I like froyo too much so I will wait for the fix
Yup, I would say screw that, and just downgrade back to Froyo dk28, it's what I have and until I see some decent roms with EB13 I will probably stick with DK28 until, I was OC'd with Genocide too, but that causing my phone to freeze sporatically,.
So I say stick with a dk rom.
There is absolutely no reason to"upgrade" to eb13 until there are some good custom roms. I'm running viper trinity with genocide kernel and my phone flies with no issues whatsoever. Why would I want to"upgrade" to a stock rom with evidently lots of bugs?
I say hold off, let these great devs work their magic, and then flash a true "upgrade."

Which camera App?
I have found the camera on the Epic to be very inconsistent. Sometimes the photos look great, rivaling a good point-n-shoot. But, other times, it's just not sharp. It doesn't help that the lens sticks out and seems to get dirty just from holding the camera.
Has anyone found a better camera app?
I was able to record a basketball game...and even zoomed in all the way and out while recrding while they were running and there was absolutely NO blur. It was buttery smooth.
Infact, whenever someone watches a video on my phone, they ALL say "...wow....your phone takes really clear vids!"
Unfortunately tho, I don't see that being the case anymore if I take a video in lowlight
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It's not junk. It's the EB13 ROM causing problems. I'm still on DK28 and my cam is perfect....although a little grainy in low light.
The irony is that Samsung makes cameras, so one would think this is an area where they'd have an edge over HTC...

It's the speed of the micro SD. Get a class 6 and it wont happen anymore.
Lag on preview
Are you looking at the resultant videos, or the screen when you're taking the movies? Because during video the screen is definitely laggy. As for the motion artifacting, well, you're not going to be able to catch even moderately high speed activities with a sensor the size of the Epic's in low light. That's because it looks like the Epic doesn't adjust the ISO when it gets dark, it just increases exposure time for each frame. This keeps the images from being terribly grainy, but also makes everything look like slomo watercolors when it gets dark enough. If you want good motion capture in low light situations, you're going to have to get something with a larger sensor. Actually, I'm surprised how nice the epic's movies look. I'm the first one to criticize samsung, but they did pretty well with the limited sensor size.

[REQ]Long press volume skips tracks

Is there a way to get this fetaure on our Galaxy S'es? Missing it since I changed to regular headphones with no answer button.

Double-tapping the headset button (or actually one press that can be long followed quickly by a tap) skips tracks in the stock music player.

Hard to do when you don't have the button, this also doesn't prevent that feature
Insanity cm has that feature.

That's a stock Cyanogenmod feature and insanity is based on CM, not Samsung

How does this have something to do with getting this feature to Samsung ROM's...? CM7 has horrible battery life, the camera application is worse than Samsung and no working video player.
I ve been working on it but failed , I didnt spend lots of time on this , seeing there was not much interest I gave up ..
If more then one person is interest in that I can port this and add to my rom , just let me know .
Searching for this too

You didn't say anything about Samsung, you asked how to get it on our Galaxy S's. I have it on mine, so I figured you missed the obvious. =)
I also get a solid 14 hours with 4-5 hours of the screen being on running CM7; I have absolutely no issue playing videos using any of the many players I've tried; and it takes perfectly fine photos for me too, since I don't use my phone for actual photography--I use, y'know, my camera for that.
But hey, being a douche does wonders I hear. Keep it up. All the best to you. =)

Good for you, but OP is right, you were missing the point in question.

How was I being a douche?
14 hours is too little if I forget to charge it in the evening and I haven't been able to play xvid's or x264 videos, only with DicePlayer but it only has a trial and the quality is bad and sound choppy. It takes photos but the stock one is just so much better.
About the adapter... that looks awesome since the bluetooth one's cost around 50 euros, will try and get one

Bumping the thread - lack of "hold to skip track" is the only thing that keeps me from trying non-CM7 roms, and to be honest I'm getting tired of bugs. My phone failed me so many times in recent months it's not funny anymore.
Just that stupid "hold to skip"...

I'm definitely interested. Right now, I am using Player Pro for this reason, but it doesn't work all the time.[my network data usage alert comes from my network operator, which requires one to select ok].
Would love to have this feature on stock Samsung ROM's ..
As an aside, was really interested in Galaxy Tuner's [Power + HHOOK key button remapping]. Would be really awesome, if you could look into and see if incorporating that is easier that the long press volume button fix , which OP is requesting.?

[SOLVED] Camera Flash Shutdown

As some of us know, after knowing your Desire HD for quite a long time, flashing a ROM such as CM7 has incurred problems such as camera flash shutdowns.
The explanation for this is simple! It is NOT (by about 99.999%) a hardware fault. It is due to the phone withdrawing too much power at boot due to some voltage settings and kernels...
Solution 1
Change your kernel and adjust voltage settings...
Solution 2 (The better one)
Replace your Desire HD battery, it may seem drastic for some cheapskates (like me), but is effective. ONLY do this is Solution 1 didn't work. Also, it may give you better battery life.
Solution 3 EXTREME MEASURES
Revert to a stock ROM... NOT a flashed one, I mean a full fledged RUU (Rom Update Utility).
For RUU's check out the Development forum.
FINAL SOLUTION (MOST EXTREMELY FREAKING WEIRD MEASURES)
Lock bootloader, undo s-off and contact HTC.
In my personal experience the battery solution was the best and worked like a charm.
Have a good day.
And click thanks.
Come on... 103 views and no thanks..? Come on people!!!
can you explain more about solution 1 !

Go to the development section, go to the index and look at the kernel category. Pick one that seems good to you and use it. The dev might also write about what voltages are good for the kernel, and to change them I recommend SetCPU
I hope I helped the poor poor people with this issue.
:good::good::good::good::good::good:
For me this issue comes and goes, so I guess it's a kernel/system settings related.
right now on Sabsa Prime v11 @1.5Ghz and no issues with flash.

That's nice, this tutorial was just for those people who are going absolutely KAY-RAY-ZEE at their DHD's. (like me)
I had the same issue, on a stock phone. The DHD would first shut down when doing a photo with flash, then when simply doing a photo, then sometimes without any apparent reasons, even with screen off. In the last times it would works only when without the sim card, every time i booted with SIM in the phone shutted down at the moment it was gaining signal.
I bought a new battery and, by now at least, it solved everything.
