I haven't tried the kangs as I belive it will ruin the experience from the official release. So I don't know what browser it has but try settings advanced then ua sting and check desktop. If that mod has been included in the rom anyway.

Go to the market and download ICS browser+ , in there you can setup UA string

UAStrings and mobile versions of websites.

I have noticed that the new browser version in 2.2 allows you to define a custom UAString which made me happy. I went and found all the info to my actual desktop's browser and input it into the settings. Yet I am still unable to see some websites in their desktop views.
Anyone know of a fix?
More info:
UAString: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Iron/5.0.381.0 Chrome/5.0.381 Safari/533.4
Have also tried the other built in options.
Enable mobile view: UNCHECKED
They could be matching you to mobile via your IP address. Does that happen over WiFi too, or just cell data?
Good idea. It was on 3G. I'll try WiFi now. Thanks.
Nah, still mobile on Wifi. Made sure the settings were still applied.
I've been using user-agent-string.info/parse to make sure the strings are working.
Have you tried going to http://whatsmyuseragent.com? I noticed that after changing my ua string to internet explorer 6 default, it still showed the android user agent when checking with the site above.

Thanks for the response. That website does show that my UA is set to Firefox's UA copied from my computer.
This is driving me nuts lol. What else on my phone can be letting the browser know I'm on a phone?
I like the default browser as well, so I don't really want to switch to Dolphin or anything.
I guess there is nothing then.
do this...
try typing "about:debug" into the http adress bar, (no quotes) then hit "go" or enter ...whatever....nothing will appear to change...then go to settings, uastrings and make sure desktop is checked. try going to a webpage...it should now work.
Also try clearing your cache/cookies.

If you've been through all of that, try disabling javascript and flash. Its probably client side.

If you would kindly read above, you would notice that I am able to change my UAString to whatever I want let alone to "Desktop". Regardless, I appreciate your interest and wanting to contribute to the matter.
I have tried clearing the cache/cookies/history/location data and turned off "Enable location" just in case it somehow could tell from that to no avail.
I just tried turning off Java and Flash and still nothing.

A porn site, redtube, but that part doesn't matter to me. It's just something that is annoying me.
It definitely has something to do with the HTC browser. I just loaded CM6 and when you set the user agent to desktop, it loads the FULL page. Try out eskimotube and see the difference. P.S. its a porn site.....

I think that's it. Dolphin is loading it just fine so it would have to be something in between the HTC browser's settings and the OS itself, which would be the browser.
Thanks a lot. I feel better now that it has been figured out.

By coincidence I did this earlier today to try to get it to visit a non-mobile version of a website, and it worked. Without ever visiting the site OP mentioned (hence no cookies), it loaded the desktop version fine.
Edit: Someone above said that it may be the Sense browser specific, this was on CM6.
Edit edit: Tried clearing cookies, switching UA to Android, loading site, then switching back to Desktop UA, and it loaded the desktop version. So yeah, Sense specific.

Froyo Browser, stop mobile sites view

Have tried googling on here and elsewhere, but I want to stop getting a mobile view of web sites. For example bbc.co.uk gives a mobile view. I have tried typing "about:debug" to get the extra settings in the settings menu, but nothing that helps appears.
I have also typed about:useragent in the browsers’ address bar,
which brings up several options for the useragent (Android,Iphone,Desktop, Lismore and custom) I have tried all these but still no luck
I am on JP6
TIA
I was pretty annoyed by this too ... now I am using skyfire if I want to use a website in the full view.
Not sure it can be changed easily on the stock browser
download the "Steel" browser. In settings, you can set the user agent to "Desktop".
You can also upgrade the stock browser via the SGS Tools app in order to add the user agent setting.
Just open the browser and in the address bar type:
about:useragent
Press GO...
You will get an option screen, just select Desktop and press OK? should work, Im rooted on JPU though?
about:useragent
This works fine, was able to access sites on android standard browser without getting mobile sites.
The only problem is that it does not survive power off and would have to be re-entered if you were to power your phone off.
Thanks for the info.

SGS Tools app is asking for root, and say click to access Market to get rooting program, that then fails as its not available. What's the best way of rooting/ unrooting Froyo JP6
Cheers
I use the free dolphin hd browser of the maket and in the settings you choose "desktop" under the "user agent". Works perfect.

Even better, get the Desktop Toggle addon for it so you can conveniently switch between modes with a button on the right addon bar.

Trying it out now as it's the first non-Webkit browser that supports the Flash plugin.

wow it's seriously damn smooth. i loaded engadget desktop site and the scrolling is smooth to the max. but.. can't change the useragent to desktop as default.
edit: okay found a way to change UAstring. just type opera:config in the address bar. tap enter. scroll down to User Agent, change the number to 2. the settings will stick even after restarting. it's not like the stock browser where you have to keep changing unless of course you're using overcome rom's stock browser.

Works if you type in a desktop UA string under User Prefs - Custom User Agent

Was using the beta, and this was really good although it lacked flash support.
I think it's the best browser for android by far.
Id always overlooked Opera before; lack of Flash support was a kick to the balls and it UI was nice, but it seemed a bit pixelated.
Just redownloaded it and I'm impressed. UI is amazing and its quick as hell! Thanks for letting us know its updated

I still get redirected to mobile versions of websites
I was on the Beta of Opera (I've been an Opera user for about eight years) and liked it except that it wasn't as integrated as the Stock browser with certain sites. Lack of Flash support was buzz-kill too.
So, I tried Miren and, I've got to say, it's very, very nice. It integrates like the stock browser but has features and UI much like Opera.
I'll try the 11 release and post back my impressions.

for those who still get redirected to mobile site.. do this :
1 type "opera:config" in the address bar and tap enter
2 scroll down to user preferences and tap it. You will see a long list of options.
3 scroll down to "custom user agent" and copy this (without the inverted commas) "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_7; en-us) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/530.17" into the box.
4 scroll down and tap save
5 restart opera by using task manager to close and then start opera again. You should not get redirected to mobile website.

Now Opera needs only one function to be ideal browser.. "Exit" button

it won't make a difference right? or will it make a difference in speed? since viewing webpages on a desktop with different browsers still gives the same webpage.
Wow. I'm impressed. Super smoothe browser and killer interface. A little buggy here and there and for whatever reason its missing an exit option.
Oh and thanks Kay for your custom user agent info. It worked for me. Now I can view websites just like my desktop.

{How-to} Set hc browser UA to desktop

Haven't seen this posted anywhere and thought it was useful. To set the stock honeycomb browser User Agent to desktop (load webpages as desktop site instead of mobile)
Open browser and in the address bar type this
about:debug
Open browser settings (top right corner) and you should see a new debug option with a crap load of options. One of them being UAstring.
Change this to desktop
This along with a proper flash player let's you do anything a desktop browser can do all from the stock hc browser
Its not my fault if you change any other setting and it causes world war 3 or any other tragic event.
Don't forget to say thanks

Old news, and it was already posted somewhere. HC 3.1 and above has that option in the browser settings menu, no need to do 'about:debug' anymore

Didn't have this option on civatos 3.2 in my settings. Only way to get it was to do about:debug. It wasn't old news to me when I found it two days ago. If I help say thanks. If I don't, move along.

Has anyone tried "about:useragent or config:useragent on ICS as it will not seem to work or is there another command available or some can share ...
Use ICS Browser+ (in Play Store)
it's essentially the stock ICS browser with some useful additions plus the option to set desktop mode as default while still allowing you to select mobile versions if necessary. (in other words it reverses the function of the menu -> request desktop version option)

Why? Default browser have this option in menu.

It only have the Request desktop site
To acess useragent you need to type about:debug and enter the browser settings, a new setting option should appear called developer settings or troubleshooting (im not sure because my android is swedish),it's under UA (ie user agent)

Cant believe we're dumbed down to mobile web viewing on devices like this.
Forget the stock browser.
ICS is good. Boat browser I think is best.
ICS+, same browser but with more settings including the ability to fix UA as desktop

Because the menu -> request desktop version option is only temporary. New tab (I think, not sure) or close browser/restart phone etc and you have to re-select it.
ICS Browser+ fixes the change in settings.
