Sprint reveals its first 4G LTE markets - EVO 4G General

Heads up, Sprint customers: CEO Dan Hesse has just announced the first markets that'll be gifted with*LTEfrom the Now Network. As per the official*@SprintTwitter account, the first cities with Sprint LTE coverage will be Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, all of which are expected to be lit up by the middle of the year. Those markets will be seeing some 3G network upgrades as well.Sprint*announced*way back in October that it would official make the move from WiMAX to LTE for its 4G network, saying that it planned to begin rolling out LTE coverage by mid-2012, so it sounds like the carrier's transition to LTE is going smoothly so far. It's not yet clear exactly when the residents of Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio will be riding the Sprint LTE airwaves or if any other markets will be joining them by midyear, but more details should be revealed as we dive deeper into 2012. Stay tuned.

Will be watching this carefully. Will be interesting to see if those markets slated, which already have 4G Wimax, will keep both and to also see if any new 4G Wimax rollouts occur.
No talk or press releases.. I mean really.. Evo users have waited long enough for Wimax 4G and paid the extra $10 per phone the longest.. although I may be mistaken. Bad enough the Evo 4G is being phased out.

The galaxy nexus with LTE may be coming to Sprint also:

This was talked about months ago Z. People thought it meant cell phones too but it does not.
I heard about it being laptop cards and mobile hotspots, not tablets as well. My Evo view 4g is useless now, wonder if a change like this lets me out of my tablet contract... I have the cheapest tablet data plan but I use a bit of 4g. No torrenting or anything like that but I feel kind of lied to. Stupid iPhone ruining everything for the rest of us.

Tis okay. It makes you wonder, are smartphone unlimited data plans next to go? I hope sprint sticks to their marketing campaign. Its the only thing I can brag about to my at&t/Verizon friends.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
If they kill unlimited cell data, not really sure where to go next. At&t is evil and doesn't care about it's customers and Verizon is almost as bad. T-Mobile will either flounder or become a fully owned subsidiary of at&t. US phone market really sucks. At&t and Verizon are making more money than ever and put all but the dregs straight into the pocketbooks of their investors.

Define 'mobile broadband'. Is that like tethering from your phone if you do it officially? I'm under the impression 'hotspot' would be more like if you have one of those wifi cards. Will the actual data through my phone to ONLY my phone still remain unlimited?
If not, Sprint is going to be in a world of hurt. This is the only thing keeping people there right now. Their service is okay, their 3G speed is pathetic. If they implement this before they roll out Network Vision, there is absolutely ZERO reason to stick with them. After Network Vision is a maybe, as then maybe the speeds will be something sort of useful.
If you pay for the Hotspot on your phone it has a 5GB limit and then throttles you down I believe. Mobile Broadband is a card you plug into a laptop to give you internet in any 3G or 4G area.

That's what I figured, thanks. Does the 5GB limit only apply while you're running the Hotspot app I wonder? Or if you have it, do you automatically default to a cap?

How exactly can Sprint tell whether you're using tethered data or not, if you're not officially paying for the service?

When you run the paid Hotspot it signs you into the network to verify you pay for it. At that time it must keep track of your usage until you sign out. We would have to see the terms and conditions of the $30 hotspot addition to be sure. But the also have hardware hotspots which I am sure the new caps are geared towards.

So since I pay for Hotspot on my ET4G, can I use that some then just use WifiTether 3.1 beta 6 (which works great actually) as a tradeoff? Also, if not downloading tons of ROMs, is this cap going to be easy to hit?

I have an Airave also and it is mainly for voice but it will increase your 3G speeds. Although it's kind of pointless since you need an internet connection for the Airave to work.
Also to OP, it took you years to get one? I made one phone call (albeit 30 minutes long) and received mine within a week. If it wasn't for my Airave I would have to drop Sprint.
Here's at home (3G) speeds..but I'm always on wifi

That is cool, I need me one of these. I'm gonna check it out sometime next week. Thanks!
I also got one without any issues when I asked. Free.
One note: DO NOT USE IT AS YOUR ROUTER. The instructions had you set it up like this:
--->internets----modem----airave----wifi/router))))computer
The airave acts as the DHCP server using this set up... and it's terrible and slow. It was for me anyway. It's just a crappy at NAT and DHCP stuff.
Instead, it should be set up as follows:
--->internets----modem----wifi/router---airave
(and computer connected to the wifi/router, not the airave.)
Some manual configuration will be needed, and ports will have to be opened and forwarded on your router.
I have wifi but I've never been able to use 3g so pretty much I've been paying sprint for garbage service so I am now going to take advantage of unlimited data

I have good service with my Airave. When my phone is connected to it, I hear it go off when I get an SMS about 5 seconds before the computer dings (Google Voice Chrome Extension). Without the Airave, my phone would sometimes take 10 minutes.
BTW, here's my speeds with the Airave...
I use G voice for text and have no issues with my Airave..
Thats good. Less volume on the network.
Go ahead and call to get your airaves people
Sprint many times offered me the airave but they wanted me to pay for it which I wasn't up for. Its like buying a working car and then the guy says ok well it'll b extra if u want the engine too. I'm happy as shyt now with the airave my messages all come in on time I can download mms in seconds and most important I don't have missed calls now. I will gladly be paying my sprint bill now... with a smile n everything

To answer the origanal question... I am using AOKP and the built in tethering works great on the new unlimited plan..
As for those who still refuse to accept hspa+ as 4g do some research.. it was decided well over a year ago now that hspa+ is accepted as 4g since it is so much faster.. and fyi.. lte was granted this approval at the same time since it also doesn't technically meet the minimum 4g requirements either...
Bottom line I get well over 20 mbs do speeds..

yes we still get pretty fast speed, no complaints there. Still not as fast as lte though. I think it's because h+ is the same technology as regular 3g, but with a boost. Lte is a different technology where you can separate into 2g, 3g, or lte. However our 4g using the same thing as 3g. Yes they can call it 4g 5g 6g, or whatever they want but they're still using the 3g technology. It doesn't mask the fact that it's slower than 4g lte

Anybody sees speeds of 1GB/S?????

yes we still get pretty fast speed, no complaints there.

What they are calling 4G LTE is not true 4G either. LTE Advanced is true 4G and that is what tmobile is working on deploying.
That wiki page is full of all kinds of stupid and leaves out a lot.

I honestly don't know what's true 4g anymore lol. I always based it off technology. Lte being a different technology in data was what i measured to be "4g" and the fact that it hit 60mbps down really did it for me. Is the new 4g lte advanced a different technology from lte? Or is it another marketing gimmick lol.

Is there anyway to add this to an Even More Plus Plan?
Lte is using a different tech. It will be called long term evolution. Why, I don't, but it seems too expensive for Tmobile probably for maintaining it and the signature style of evolution. Foundations for technology must be solid, and have a lot of hardware add-ons in terms of future sales in my best guess.

I "get" spark where I am, but its not good. I must be in the last magnetic wave from the tower (I am in a small farming town between Tacoma and Seattle) because I get 1.28Mbps down, and .84Mbps up. Doesnt matter much most of the time I am at my house and am usually on wifi. Since my router has 5Ghz I am usually get around 56/12 thanks to my home internet. Wonder what spark would be like in downtown Seattle. I hate to admit how much I miss Big Reds network. I could get full coverage from Seattle to San Diego down the 5, with a 5 minute drop out near central cali. With Sprint, I lose service going down the wrong street. I just keep holding on to hope they are actually going to upgrade their network before I die from old age.

I've gotten 6 Megabytes a second at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, no idea what that is in megabits.
You people need to change your speed test to Run in Kilobytes a second, Megabits has absolutely no baring on how fast it would take to download say a song, game, or movie. 1MB/s = 10 seconds for a song, 5 mins for a TV show for example. No idea what 25mbs means, its just a marketing scam to make it sound bigger than it is. =(
EDIT: for those stupid like me, 6MB/s is about 44mbits. That guy who posted 71mbits was getting 8.8MB/s. Good lord that is faster than any land line I've ever been connected too. That is like 15 minutes for a 10gb steam game on a phone!

Point stands, why convert when we manage our data in Bytes?
I'm currently downloading programs on my PC and its giving me data in Bytes, not bits, I've never seen anything use bits outside of Internet provider commercials.
I'd just be translating it into bits just to translate it back into bytes lol
This is inside my home with 5 bars. I live in a small town between Orlando and Tampa with a population of bout 1000, lol.

These are the fastest speeds I have seen in north Austin. Spark is great when it works , the other half of the time I'm lucky to have service at all ... The network is spotty in my area.
