Sometimes in a noisy environment I have trouble hearing people while in a call.
So I researched and found an easy solution.
**Usual disclaimer applies**.
1- open dialer
2- type *#*#197328640#*#*
3- Browse to Audio/handset/Volume/SRS speech RX vol.
4- Change the fifth level to something higher, I have 95(now)
Don't go too high, you don't want to damage your speaker, test little by little
Tested on CM7.
Thanks

I have uploaded some pics for reference in the 1st post, after I dial all the code, it opens "Service mode".
I thought it would work in stock ROM also, apparently not.

Is there an official list of what has changed, been fixed and improved?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
- added an "auto enhance" feature to the camera. not sure what it does yet, looks like it boosts the contrast and saturation a tiny bit.
- added a quick settings menu to the drop down bar.
- added a "tell HTC" error reporting feature. looks much like windows error reporting. can be disabled in the settings>about phone menu.
- changed the way the app menu scrolls. now scrolls a page at a time instead of smooth. RSI inducing when you scroll fast, but easier to find stuff.
- screen looks better to me, not sure why though.
- camera quicker to focus in low light.
- gallery is faster
Im seeing a difference in camera quality for the worse.
Auto enhance seems like its a fith wheel as you can acheive the same or better quality through adjusting some of the settings.
Has the text message app been fixed?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Text message app seems to be working fine now.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
also added:
new power control widgets. they look awesome! go to widgets> all htc widgets and scroll to about 50 out of 77.
I have also noticed the sound quality has improved on the video camera.. i can now actually hear things when playing back a video.. before i just got an awful low muffed sound. Anyone else noticed the improvement?.
The new scolling is a bit of a pain if you have alot of apps installed but if you change the view to list mode you can scroll down the list as before without the stopping and starting.
The speaker also seems a bit louder.
My texting has been fixed (was stuck on the buggy 1.74 for months!!)
My wifi is fine (although alot of people are reporting theirs has either got worse or no wifi connection at all)
Weather app now has sound on it
The phone seems alot more smoother too.
I'm running my HD on the stock rom and radio (unbranded on vodafone) with official update (2.36.405.8)
Not tested the GPS yet.. been raining here so i'LL wait till it clears up before giving it a whirl.
Battery on mine seems slightly better.
Improved the application management menus, seems to stop the running apps alot quicker than before.
Personally i'm loving this phone again.
In previous stock ROMs, pressing the search button on the home screen brought up the HTC Search application. Now, Google Search is used.
Not sure if this change was introduced with GB, or it was made earlier and I didn't notice, but... Gmail app now has copy/paste
However, still not possible to save attachments
Sound effects on weather widget, also clock and Facebook widget.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I noticed all the above plus better battery stats graph, and better manage apps menu. Also as stated about the Facebook widget/app they finally fixed it from before when you would load the app, click on something, and then back out, it used to make the thumbnail pictures disappear to a white box, but now they stay.
Can now enter title and middle name in People app....
And can paste number into the dialer - this is a particularly helpful addition for me.

When click on the find button on desire HD, u were able to search everything on ur phone, but now it goes too Google search? Why?
how can we search the phone now?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
One other change that I'm NOT liking, is the unread count dissapears from the sms and HTC Mail widget once you have gone into the app, even if you don't read anything and come out anything. No longer displays any count.

Google Search is used to search your phone. Just go into Menu->Search Settings->Searchable items.

Found also that with the HTC mail app, when I get Outlook meeting invites now I can see the proposed time and date etc before accepting. Sooooo needed was that as I had no idea if I could actually attend or not when clicking ok.
Can also see my Gmail IMAP account in the HTC mail app listed in accounts now whereas before the only way to get to its settings was through the mail app itself.
Don't use GMail itself due to the horrible interface. Never gotten on with it.
Found that if you want to move an icon too on a full screen you can - drag it over another icon and they swap places. Unsure if that's a new one but I remember on my Desire you had to remove an icon first to make room then re-add. Even Nokia had that one covered with crummy Symbian.
Compared to 1.72 also it doesn't crash, at all. The older version used to just reboot itself all the time, in my pocket, on the table - properly got on my t1ts. Made me regret going from 1.32 to that horrible ROM.
I've also found that videos I could not play before that I'd recorded now play. God knows what was going on there but the update seems to have sorted that.
App management is faster - gives you a list of what's installed almost straight away, icons and all whereas before it would sit there calculating for ages.
The volume is noticably louder too on ringtones and notifications. Again was much needed as it was so quiet before.
All in all I'm pleased - the only thing I've found is when the phone is fighting for signal it EATS the battery with dialer jumping right up in the usage stakes. I think it's a mobile data thing - turn that off or switch to GSM only and it's happy.
While recording the video you can zoom in or zoom out even during recording. Earlier this was not possible and you could only focus while recording.
Also after restarting the phone, the duration of being run on battery, in the Battery use does not reset, while earlier it used to reset with each phone switch off.
here are some highlights

Thats always been like that has it not? A little tip though, if you are search for an app then open the app drawer and then hit the search button so it specifically searches through your apps only.
So if you know whatever your looking for is only going to be in a certain area hit the search button after you get there. I don't know if that's new or not but i just found it and it is very helpful rather then searching the whole phone.
I am planning to buy HTC MyTouch 4G soon.
Before that I want to ensure the following.
Is it possible to enter numbers in dialer using the optical track ball by moving the cursor?
I used to enter numbers using the direction keys in a Huawei mobile phone i had.
Entering numbers in touch screen may be superior but i have special needs to be eyes free on the phone while working.
Thats why
Your findings would be the deciding factors for me so please help me.

Just tried on my wifes phone which is stock 2.2.1 and you are unable to use the trackpad to select numbers. Conversely, I am using faux123's aosp rom and you can use the trackpad to select numbers and make the call. Only thing is when you open up the dialer, it opens on your call log first, so you have to scroll to the left for the dialer and then down...you may want to stick to a physical keyboard to ensure accuracy though...

While you working, are you ok to use voice commands? MyTouch has Genius button, that seems to work nice for me.
Long press button, Say "Call *name*" and it works.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
So you are able to select numbers via vanilla Android Dialer and are not able select numbers via HTC Sense dialer using the optical trackball.
Am i right ?
Once again i sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Actually my problem lies in dialing phone numbers not already stored in my mobile phone's address book.
I use Cyberion Voice Speed Dial to dial phone numbers that are already stored in the mobile phone.

Try to say a 11 or 10 digit number and check it's accuracy.
Like 08026783377 Or 09475635452.

Hey, did you know that there is a Mytouch Slide that is out now on the tmobile website that has a full slide out keyboard...I think that would be the way to go
Actually I hold and use mobile phones single handedly.
so slide out keyboards are not comfortable for me

oh good, i couldn't remeber how i turned mine on ....
Settings->Voice input and output->Text-to-speech settings-> Driving mode checked
Settings->Voice input and output->Text-to-speech settings-> Driving mode settings: You can select here which notifications are read aloud
in latest midnote 3.2 ICS u can also set caller ID on sanity settings
'Call announcer' is nice.
Announcify is also nice. It's open source too (source on GitHub).
It can read out caller ID for phone calls, SMS/MMS, e-mail, etc…
I have a Nokia n73 as well! ! good camera phone for its time! !
On several of the old flip phones I've had, before Android, they had a feature where you could block your caller ID for one call only.
Is that available on custom ROM or app?
It's useful in that normally I let my Caller ID go through when I'm making a call. But occasionally I don't want whom I'm calling to know my number, so I block it. But then many times forget to go through the several step process to unblock it again. On several old pre-Androd phones I had, you could block you ID for one call only, and then it would go back to the previous setting.
Just dial *67 before dialing the number. I think that still works give it a try. Maybe that's just a landline thing not sure. Doesn't hurt to try

Open up the phone and go into Settings, then scroll down til you see Additional Settings and its in there(not one call tho)(on carbon 1.8)

I'll try it again, but in the past, it didn't work from cell phones, which is why I liked the old option from the phones menu. But, perhaps it does work now, which is why I don't see the option anymore..

Hi all,
I love being able to add pauses to numbers, to enable me to redirect our support telephone at work from anywhere. But there is a snag. This is the number:
0211xxxxxxxxx,**700xxxxx#,#1

(x is a number, sorry, but wouldn't want anyone to use this)
This worked fine on my old Galaxy S2, with stock rom and with custom rom. On my Galaxy S5 it kind of works.
When I dial it from my contact list it does its thing and seems to stop at the second comma (this is only a guess...), after that the call stops and the redirection is not working.
If I do the same while on speaker, it works as expected.
Now I guess, that no one here will be able to solve my problem from this vague description, but you might have ideas to send me in the right direction. Could it be, that pauses on speaker differ from those not on speaker, for example in length?
Thank you for your ideas
Sven
I used to do the same for making Google voice calls for specific numbers, dial my gv # then pause, then 2, then pause, then dial then number I wanted to call, then press #.
I found on my S5 I had to do three comas before the 2 and two comas after it, or it would not work.
Also, try using the wait option in the "sym" menu

Hi finndo,
Thank you very much for your enlightening post! I was very surprised when I read about three commas, but I'm definitely going to try
The only thing I can't find is the 'sym' menu, where can I find that?
Thank you very much
Sven
