So I got this Motorola Xoom Wifi and it came with it the Supersuer and ROM Manager already installed. I suspected that I have root (for some reason) so I installed Busybox and Titanium Backup but both tell me that I don't have root access.
How can I further investigate the real nature of my device, if it is rooted or not and if it is not, how come I have the Superuser installed?
I'd be extremely delighted if the device is rooted but needs some small fix, that way I won't have to re-install everything I already installed.
Any help?

You can install root checker from the market. Most likely the previous owner had it rooted and the unrooted it before selling it. They were just to lazy to go in and manually edit files to delete the SU app.

Superuser and rom manager are not "strictly" connected with a rooted device. They can be installed from the market as any other app, they will simply not work. Anyway, try root checker as said before and it will tell you if it is rooted
Are you sure your Google Account didn't just restore your apps? That's usually what happens...

From what I understand, the temporary root keeps you rooted only unless you
reboot. So each time you reboot the phone, you have to temporary root in z4
over again. Otherwise, just do the permanent root.
you should use z4root 1.1.0 not 1.3.0 and permanent root. Worked for me.

You also need to install the super user app from the market.
The features its talking about is Access-Control, which has never really worked to begin with. The app will still do what its supposed to just you can't use that one feature.
Prob just didn't get the pop-up to allow su privileges. Usu. just exit & restart the app & allow when it shows...

& z4root 1.3.0 works & installs su when it roots - u might want to get a more updated busybox from mkt tho.
As a sidenote, when I first used it I had to temp root first, then perm root after. Other times it just took a min or two to achieve perm root.
Ok so I had rooted my D2 a few days ago and had been looking into backup/recovery apps. Now however it seems as if my phone is no longer rooted. Is this possible? I thought I had read another thread where someone else was having this problem but was unable to find it. I tried to open up my superuser app and titanium backup app, but both ended in a failure and asked if my phone was rooted. Thanks in advance for anyone's help with this!
Also, just noticed that my superuser app isn't working correctly. The widget changed from being labeled "superuser" to "superuser permissions". I had assumed that this was after my phone had updated some other applications, however the superuser app won't turn on, it just gives me a black screen. When I tried to update through the market it said "Package file was not signed correctly". I'm unable to find the app on my phone so I can delete and try to download it again fresh. Thanks again for any advice anyone has!

Yeah. Phones can unroot themselves. This usually happens when the phone updates itself. Don't stress though... just root your phone again.
So, then with the superuser permissions app that I found on my phone...if I were to re-root my D2 with a different method of rooting vs the first way, would I be able to uninstall that superuser permissions app if I wanted? Thanks for such a quick response!

What was your first method. I would just use z4root. Also, did you install a custom rom? If so maybe reflash the rom after you are rooted again.

I had used the 1-2-3 step for rooting as my husband had suggested that. I have z4root installed now but haven't done anything yet. My husband had suggested I get some back-up apps for my phones system and also one for my apps in case I kill my phone. Will the droid 2 bootstrap back-up/restore my original phone system in case I do mess it up?

OK I did not find this easily here, so am posting as a new thread - mods please delete if appropriate.
I had a rooted Atrix running 4.5.91 for ages, no issues. In looking for how to upgrade I came across a thread with the usual complicated series of steps and a side-note about OTA RootKeeper (find in Market).
So backed up (TBPro). Installed OTA RootKeeper. Unrooted. Verifyied it had. Re-rooted, to make sure it worked!
Then Unrooted and accepted the OTA upgrade.
Updated with no issues.
Restored root with no issues. All previously superusered apps still working fine, etc.
I did not find anything describing this very simple process anywhere, so thought I'd post.
(Only casualty of the upgrade is WeatherBug Elite which seems to be unable to connect - off to investigate now as mail, internet and everything else working fine).

That is not true.
I actually posted that it worked for me in one of the other rooting threads. I did a little different than OP. I didn't unroot for the update. The OTA broke my root and I restored it using the app.
Installed Voodoo. Chose to backup (protect or whatever the option was) the root. Installed OTA. Went into Voodoo and restored root. It worked without any problems. Works as long as you have root before doing the update so I'm not sure what you mean that it doesn't keep the root because it worked for me and OP. I have the ATT version in case it matters.
Worked like a charm for my phone. If you google, you can find specific instructions on the web about the process of how to do it (since the app itself gives no instructions).
Are you guys using the stock recovery with this or have an alternative flashed? I have cwm flashed on mine so I don't think the ota will work. Am I correct?

i have bootloader unlocked, rooted and CWM flashed.i installed voodoo OTA keeper , saved the all the root stuff with that app then did temp un-root and installed OTA, when it finished installing i just went to the app and hit re-root and it worked.. checked it with root checker

Should work the recovery is its on part of the flash storage on the phone so i don't believe it matters much to the phone once you get cwm on there when updating through OTAs.
broke wifi
I was rooted. Hid the root, uninstalled superuser. Did OTA. Unhid root and reinstalled superuser.
Now my wifi disconnects about every 20 minutes for a few seconds then reconnects.
Can't find a fix.
Atrix 4G Unrootable after OTA Rootkeeper
OK, technicially it is still rooted, but it loses Shell Root. OTA Keeper. After I re-root or restore root with OTA Rootkeeper, all the check marks are checked off in the Status of Voodoo OTA RootKeer EXCEPT Root permission granted. Superuser app installed, Device roote, Filesyste supports root protection and Protecte su copy available are all checked, but the device does not allow permission to important apps I need and are the main reasons I root my phone. I couldn't care less about ROMs and fancy cosmetics. I need functionaity that this OTA Rootkeeper has cost me. I have tried reflashing, restoring to factory settings everything, and I still can't fully root my phone. superoneclick hangs at step #7, manual root gets an error message "device full" all because this OTA rootkeeper app has completely locked out other root methods and has an incomplete re-root method.

My Atrix was rooted using SuperOneClick. I have system version 4.5.91, Android version 2.3.4. Bootloader not unlocked. No CWM or any special ROMS installed.
I've been getting the constant nagging of the 2.3.6 update, but I don't want to lose root. I have ota rootkeeper app, and it looks like the instructions from the OP are simple enough.
My question is, is my situation similar enough to the OP's so I can go ahead with the update? I rooted my phone mainly to use Barnacle Wifi Tether, so definitely want to keep using that after the update.

Any thoughts as to how I can delete all the files associated with root? I am still on stock rom and have titanium backup, but now that won't work either.

Mattlegroff has a "root remover" app on the play store for a buck - just get that and you'll be good to go. Of course, if you've been rooted, its impossible to completely remove the evidence as they can check the root checker in recovery.
The dead android is stock recovery, you should be able to wipe from that (not that it would remove any root evidence, that's all in /system)

Being rooted doesn't void any warranties anyways it's just frowned upon. Unlocking your bootloader however does void your warranty

My bank's app requires that the phone will be unrooted (it won't let me sign in). Is there a way to make the app think that I don't have root access, or is there a way to temporary unroot my phone, for when I'm using the app?
I've tried to disable the root from SuperSU, to use RootKeeper OTA, and this thread instructions, and some more market apps, but none of these worked. Even titanium backup didn't believe me that I'm not-rooted
Can you guys help me out?

Most apps just look if you have a superuser.apk in /system/app/. Try to put "com." at the beginning of the name. So you don't have "superuser.apk" but "com.superuser.apk". I already done this and i have root and the app thinks im unrooted.
