ARHD Factory data reset - Desire HD General

Hi everyone,
I just flashed my Desire HD with the latest ARHD onto my phone. I thought it might be good to do a "factory data reset" or format factory default in 4ext after a flash. But when i perform these action my phone reboots (which is normal) and i get the word "android" in the the middle of the screen. I have to take the battery out and hold the down button with the power to get into the recovery and perform either a install from zip or i can use the restore function. is this normal for a custom rom?

Dont do a factory reset after the rom flash. This will remove needed files. Do the factory reset BEFORE you do the rom flash

Got it thanks. was trying to find out why it was happening.

Factory reset removes all kind of "custom eye candy" stuff from the phone to make it stock as much as possible so if you factory reset after flashing rom, it'll get rid of custom bootanimation, scripts, tweaks...all that to give you stock feeling.

Hi shad0wboss,
What i mean is when i do a reset after a custom rom install i get stuck on an android screen and it does nothing else. so the world "android" appears on the middle of the screen in a metallic style and that's it. doesn't boot, doesnt turn off doesn't do anything unless i pull out the battery.

phone not going to desktop

How long after reboot does it take for everything to loadup, because right now my phone keeps going back and forth between htc and sprint splash screens. Did I do something wrong, or am I being impatiant.
how long has it been so far?
Have you used A2sd before?
**EDIT**
What ROM are you flashing?
Did you nandroid backup?
I can further assist you with these questions answered.
I'd say about 30 mins and a I used the flashrec process.
yes i did do a nand and flashed damage 2.08

Okay nothing to flash takes 30 minutes. You are stuck in a boot loop.
Steps to take:
Remove battery
go to recovery (down volume + end call button at same time and hold them,
when you get word come up hit home)
Now that you are in recovery go to wipe
click "Restore Default" (it will say something like that)
Reflash the ROM
Let me know it this works.
**STEPS TO TAKE IF THIS STILL DOESN'T WORK**
Re download Damage Control
then place back on SD Card.
Flash that one..
Note: you are in no way bricked so don't worry.
Every thing can be fixed with the right assistance.
Restore Default" (it will say something like that)
wipe data/factory reset is that what you ment for wipe?

Yes and if you have ever used Apps 2 SD then you need to wipe "SD:ext partition" And considering DC uses that you need to wipe it.
then reflash it
EDIT: I dont want to confuse you so here it is in a more professional manner.
Wipe: data/factory reset
Wipe: SD:ext partition
reflash DC, then reboot phone.
----------------------------------------------------
If all fails Download DC again here
http://dl.damagedroms.com/2.0/DamageControlv2.08.1.zip
Then you should know the steps from there
So how long should it take to load that flash?
10 Minutes at most.
but hold off a couple minutes after that just in case. Also it should do HTC the HTC with the green brilliant then back to HTC if it goes back and forth like before you are in a boot loop.
Also you can tell if its in a boot loop because the Htc will kinda flash.. That means that it is reloading the boot which in turn tells you the phone wont boot up.
Never mind it just came up thank you very much the info you gave me was very appreciated. I knew i didn't brick my phone because it was doing something Ijust didn't know how to fix that issue. So again THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to reset everything to out of the box?

Just a quick query before I even get my Nexus S ...
Is it possible to completely reset everything to out of the box condition using a similar method to the HTC devices of holding the down button whilst turning on the phone to access the boot loader screen?
I want to know I can return this if necessary after it's been turned on and configured without leaving any trace of use or my data.
have you installed a custom recovery? or are you on the stock recovery? You can turn off your phone, and then while phone is off hold volume up + power . This will get you into bootloater mode, then you can select recovery. Once you are in recovery hold volume up + power, then it will give you recovery settings, from here you can wipe data.

Thanks, I haven't even received the phone yet so until I have had chance to check it out and make sure it suffers none of the issues cropping up here it will be totally stock - no modding whatsoever.
Will the method above set the phone to out of the box condition with no traces of use?
I gather that once a custom recovery has been installed there is no way to remove it at this time, is that right?

Goto Settings, Privacy, select Factory Data Reset.
This will clear all private data off the phone, whether you're rooted or not, whether you have custom recovery or not.
Edit: to your second question, yes, at present, there appears to be no way to remove the custom recovery. They'll figure that out sooner or later.

yes, the above method will reset everything. You can even reset to stock from the phone itself, by going to storage, then clear storage. Then i believe in privacy settings you can wipe phone. At this time, there is no way to go back to stock recovery once a custom recovery is flashed. But eventually google will release the stock recovery images that are flashable through fastboot
Thanks guys!
Been told I can turn the phone on but not make any calls or add anything to memory - not sure how the hell you can try a phone out with that kind of restriction.
As long as I can clear EVERYTHING if I need to return it that's fine!
Ah, good point about the sdcard. In prior phones, I just pulled mine out and moved to the new phone. You will want to wipe the sdcard as part of removing all traces of you on the phone.

There IS no SD card in the Nexus S (not removable anyway) ;-)
I assume the method above will clear the mass memory.

I'm pretty sure, based on past experience with Galaxy S, Nexus One, and HTC EVO 4G, that a Factory Reset from the Settings menu, or from the CWM recovery does not touch the partition that is mounted as /sdcard (whether it's internal or external).
I'm not willing to factory reset my NS at this time to prove the point, though.
In my opinion, to totally reset your phone (for non-rooted), you should:
/Settings/Storage settings/Erase USB storage
/Settings/Privacy settings/Factory data reset
If you're going to take the Recovery method, then you'd
Wipe all data
format sdcard

desire hd camara screen goes black

Hey,
When I start up my camera on the Desire it just brings up a black screen, no image nothing, its unresponsive to anything but hitting the home button a couple of times to get back to the main screen.
Anybody got any ideas to get round this
Had this once after a recovery restore. try re-flash the ROM over the top without wiping any data.

Just to clarify, I think sgroimax is being sarcastic. I hope so anyway.
ONLY if flashing without wipe fails to fix should you resort to wipe.

I cant wipe, I cant re ROM, What to do?

So, I have a backup of my rom from another device that I installed. What I need to do is change the sync account, but it says I can not remove it. Fine, so I try to add another and it says google can not establish a reliable connection.
If I factory reset the device, it will sit at the boot logo and keep crashing until I restore from backup.
If i install a new rom, only one actually worked but it seemed to be an older one (Different icons, missing the Hubs)
What can I do? I already completely bricked one device trying to get this fixed. I really gotta get this going, how can I either wipe it all out completely so I can set it up new again, or find the stock USA/Canada Rom?
Thanks!!
Ps, here is the thread I already have where i speak about bricking my other phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175098
Dude please stop whatever you're doing. You seems to be getting yourself in a mess.
First do some reading on how to flash with Odin and then flash a stock firmware to the device and do a cache wipe and factory reset in the recovery menu. When you boot into the device do a hard reset and then stop messing with the device.

The thing is, if i do a factory reset, it will not boot for some weird reason :/
Thats all I am trying to do, I just need to get back to stock then i'm sitting there. The only thing that actually seems to work is the backup I have on it right now, but I can not reset any of the settings to actually be able to start using the thing
this is the second one you've messed up? use one of the other 2 but don't try to do a restore just download all your apps manually. and send me one of the messed up ones.

Yup, haha
I have a Jig on the way, ill see how that goes
Well I would also like to change the sync account, which it will not let me ://
I just reflashed like 8 times in the last hour trying different roms, none are working
Stop.
There is a bug when you wipe, which stops boot...
Affects older stock roms.
Newer ones should be OK, as should custom ROMs

So what can I do?
I also cant even find any Stock USA roms, which is weird
I just got it to finally boot with another rom
The only thing different is it by default has some widgets added, and the Messaging app has a different icon. All the hubs are also intact
*Roots, makes a backup*

All seems to be working now. Woo whoo!
I have 4 And 2 of the 10.1 tabs
I am working closely with Samsung on one of their new marketing projects, which is why I get all of these
So, factory resetting this image screws up too.
But its okay, as I got a blank backup now with no accounts. So I'm all set
Also, just got the email confirmation that my jig shipped out.
You should probably donate one of the "b0rk3n" device to a dev.

[Q] Trying to factory restore the phone and nothing seems to work

So last night I tried installing a custom boot animation for my Samsung Galaxy S4, but I somehow misread the instructions and deleted some files in the /system/media directory. After a restart I noticed that I was led to a boot screen that has the Samsung logo and a padlock with custom written on the screen, after this screen passes there is darkness for a minute or so then the phone is booted into, yeah sounds okay, right? Well, after that happened I realized that my lock button won't actually lock the phone, the phone will actually continuously stay on, no matter what settings I tell the phone to lock, it's as if locking the screen now is not an option, but the lock button works if I hold it down which will give me the option to shutdown go into airplane mode and restart. I then proceeded to see if I could restore the phone to factory settings by going into the settings to factory restore but that doesn't do anything, just restarts the phone. After that I tried hard resetting which didn't work either, I wasn't even led to the GUI for hard resetting. I'm running a stock ROM on 4.4.2 Kit Kat that's rooted, an At&t I337 model. I'd just really like to factory reset the phone and I'm not sure what to do? Thanks.

If factory reset doesn't work all you need to do it is flash the stock firmware again.. So that would restore all the system files again, if u flash the official one you would have to root the phone again, or u can just install a custom ROM.
Hit thanks if I helped!

You would need Odin to flash the ROM, and a stock firmware for ur particular phone and region available at sammobile.com or you would just find one in the android development thread of this forum and the Odin just google it..
