I apologize for another Brick thread. I must've been fairly careless when doing it but this morning i casually started going about installing ICS on my Nexus S GT-i9020A
Firstly, I tried installing the rom through CWM where it aborted installation for some reason multiple times. I was originally using CyanogenMod7 Rom. I tried reverting to the stock Gingerbread and that wouldn't work either for some reason. After this, i formatted the SD card using CWM. I finally found a rom that installed using CWM. Now once done, I rebooted the phone and since then the phone is dead. No combination of buttons has worked. No fast boot, not even The Linux based tool which i tried using. my phone is not even detected by the computer niether in Windows or Linux
Any help guys?
Have you tried removing the battery for at least five minutes, then reinserting and boot into recovery?
Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397393
If the phone is charge when you connect power cable, than isn't dead....
You could try Download Mode and Odin3. Press on vol up and vol down while conecting the USB cable to the PC and your phone should be in Download Mode. Then you could flash a bootloader (and the via fastboot a firmware) or an entire firmware (hope I'm correct) straight via Odin3.
Thank you so much guys. I have tried the button combos and have even used the Linux tool. the computer doesnt detect the phone at all. The battery seems to get warmer though after having it connected for a while. I am pretty sure i have to go down the Transistor USB jig method. Thank you so much againg guys

That's pretty unfunny. Guy bricked his phone and all you can do is tell a pretty lame joke.
Anyway, OP: Was it your fault that it bricked? I am just asking so that other do not make the same mistake if it was.
You could ask your carrier for replacement. Say you were updating OTA and it wouldn't turn on after

He has manufacturer's warranty if its less than a year old from his date of purchase. Go to your carrier, if they can't help call samsung.
Of course this is worst case if you can't get it working again...which sounds like the case.

Use my guide but with an appropriate firmware from samfirmware.
Not a hell lot you can do about the download speed. I suspect it might have something to do with hotfile - I get incredibly ****ty speed from hotfile, but not from any other file sharing service.
There should be a few threads lying around in the general section about stock roms. Try downloading from there instead of ****ty hotfile.

Before you flash anything you gotta make sure you have 2 backup plans. One is, of course, the nandroid backup. The other is having a stock firmware file you can flash with Odin in case everything goes to hell.
In my case, I have a JPU stock firmware stored on my home computer and on my work laptop. Every time I screw up so badly everything is FUBAR I go back to JPU and works like a charm.
Ah also, along with the JPU I have a CF-Root flashable file for JPU (just needs to be Froyo specific, not firmware release specific) so I can have root.
That's the only advice that hasn't been given to you already.
In reality, the Galaxy S is pretty hard to really brick. The bootloader may get corrupted but there's almost always a way out.
ok thanks guys +1
i will flash my phone with 2.3 and when I'am bored with it i'll flash it with some custom rom

Starting off, I'm probably posting in the wrong section. Excuse my forum etiquette, but I need help with this because I'm insanely frustrated and in pain (Decided to learn how to exploit the android OS while recovering from my surgery).
So, if you've read past that first part and are still willing to help, thank you.
Moderators: If you absolutely need to move this post, please move it to a section where it will actually get attention and I can get an answer. Thanks.
Anyway, the breakdown of my problem is this;
I wanted to root my new day old Sprint CMDA Nexus S, I've never rooted anything android, and if anything the most I've done with a droid OS is installed it on my old iphone 2g.
So I did some googling and first thing to come up was this guide:
nexusshacks(dotcom)/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-root-nexus-s/
Now, usually I would do a bit more research, but because of the lack of blood in my body I'm doing dumb things, making bad decisions, whatever.
So obviously this guide doesn't work, even a quick skim of the comments shows that, I try to follow this guide-
I followed step "fastboot flash boot rootboot.img" then tried to reboot. It freezes at the google boot logo. This is where I start getting a bit nervous because I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
So I think "Well, if I jump over to someone elses tutorial and do that it should overwrite any "root"ing data I've tried to put into the device.
So I jump over to this:
androidadvices(dotcom)/root-sprint-nexus-gingerbread-235-update/3/
It has me install PDANet and it's frozen since on the installing PDAnet to your phone.
I just want to get my Nexus S back to original factory default so I can start fresh from there without a terrible guide.
Can someone please help me get there?
Thanks.
tl;dr:
Bad guide soft bricked my phone and I want to restore it to factory defaults

Ok I can see you need help but I am inclined to warn you instead. Stop. If you cannot figure out how to root the easiest phone to root then you shouldn't be messing around with your phone. You will end up screwing something up, won't know how to fix it, and come crying here for help. Do yourself some research before you go and ruin your phone.
Yes you posted in the wrong place.
There is a thread in this forum on how to root the nexus s 4g. Rooting is model specific. The T-Mobile Nexus s is different from the sprint, att, Rodgers, o2 etc.
Please please do some more research!

Thanks for a reply, and I understand I dug a hole.
Now I need to get out of said hole, so if you had any directions of how to dig myself out, that'd be great.
if you can get into fastboot then you are still cool, if not you're gonna have to odin it. I dont actually know where the tar files are, Micheal posted it up but i think they deleted the thread. You should have came to xda first,we have one clicks.
actually rooting is the same across the board. same steps same everything... in fact the one click root version 1 would work on any and all of them, version 2 branches out a bit further due to that it installs cwm.
anyways boot into fastboot, download stock fastboot images from petes thread found here http://wonderly.com/bb/CRESPO4G/OEM/GRJ22IMAGES.zip and flash them all in fastboot.
youll be back on stock grj22 but youll at least be booting.. from there follow a guide for rooting this phone that has you flash cwm (not a prerooted kernel). or be lazy and use my one click root
You sir are a class act. We need a ton more guys like you here at XDA

My friend asked me to root his samsung galaxy for him. He doesn't have a sim card in it and it is running 2.2 froyo. I have tons on experience rooting and ROMing my Droid x2 from Verizon and my Acer tablet but I don't know where to begin on this phone. I read the sticky and I've been researching for the past week and have still yet to even get the correct drivers. My friend needs it tommorow, and he already gave me some money to do it for him. If any one, any one at all could link me to the drivers for the phone, and how to root it (prefferebly not through adb) or if you can do it without hooking it up to the computer, I would be eternally greatful! All I need to do is get the phone rooted and get a recovery on there. Somebody please help! Thanks guys!!!

Dude,
Get an Gingerbread Stock version of Gingerbread (see www.sammobile.com) I recommend I9000_JVZ and download-it. then flash-it. You cand find step-by step how on this forum.
After you flash it you can flash wwith odin the proper version fot CF-Root from chain fire (it should be with the same extension _JVZ or _JVT, because it is working just fine).
If you do not fing them send me your mail and I wil upload them for you. All of them.

There should be no problem if you can switch on your bootloader (vol+ + power on).
The solution is in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982 first post, Method 2 (files available, which is not the case in Method 1.).
Do all steps exactly as written. Then you can flash any CM 7 or 9. But probably you have no way back to froyo.
At least I have tesed it.

But I had the same. And this method helped. You loose nothing if try.
Flash with RDSLite (it is eclair with CG5, then exact steps with CM7 and next flash. You will get kind of CM7 (here I also cleared private data from a system which somehow made the internal memory full), which you may stay with or change to any CM, MIUI, WIUI etc.
Ok, so you tried to flash another ROM and couldn't press bootloader. Which sbf did you flash to revive it?
Also read the whole OP of the threat posted before.
