poor people reading that blog; there are going to be misinformed...

I call bull****. You won't see official ICS OTA for SGS2 start to roll out until at least the end of January (probably later).

Many beta releases get available using Kies if you enable "Test mode", maybe that was how the writer got KP8 in his Kies...

The article *does* mention they are beta releases and they may only be available in select regions.

Why would Samsung risk damage to its reputation by releasing a beta version of an official firmware to Joe Public ??!!
Stop for a moment and actually think about that.
Handset manufacturers only release final builds to the public, because if the user experience is less than satisfactory, word gets around pretty quickly. This costs them money in the long run thru lost initial sales, and lost potential upgrades to new models (I.E people have long memories).
If this is a "beta" (I'll bet my balls its an alpha of some kind or the pics have been doctored), it sure as hell wasn't officially released by Samsung.
Edit - Luiz, yes you are right. It could be one of those from Kies by enabling test mode. But lets face it, how many phone users know it exists ? Answer - very few. This is not a "public release".

The poster read the source and invented KIES or presumed KIES .
After 2 Beta ICS CUSTOM ROMs from Samsung for the Galaxy S II I9100, Samsung has finally started making official ROMs for the Galaxy S II based on Android 4.0.1 and Android 4.0.3,
The ROMs leaked
as a final version of the
Upcoming Next Month (jan,2012)
Updates through Samsung KIES.
Now i read that as Upcoming next month through KIES next month is of course Jan 2012 in that respect firmware badged LA not KP as leak is Dec 2011
Not roms leaked that's not KIES its the leak via samfirmware
Even bigger clue ROM SOURCE = sammobile not KIES .

When you say the poster invented the kies, I hope you don't mean me!

NOPE the original poster that you linked to read Josephs post and made wrong assumptions .If you had read the original post by Joseph you would have also seen the error .

Can't see ICS becoming available on KIES anytime soon based on how long it took to update to 2.3.5 for me.

Froyo Available Via Kies -official Worldwide Release Oct 16-28 for Samsung Galaxy S

Rumors:Samsung Galaxy S to Get Froyo Around 23rd September?
It’s always a good thing when a company keeps their word. In the world of Android, it doesn’t always happen, especially when it comes to release dates for firmware updates. However, it seems like Samsung will indeed stay true to their promise that the international-spec Galaxy S (i9000) will be receiving its update to Android 2.2 by the end of September. A source from within the Finland branch of Samsung has disclosed that Samsung’s repairs department will be:
“definitely receiving new software for repairing froyo builds on the 22nd of September, with the build expected to be released on the 23rd”
There are two important points to make of this. Firstly, if this is what is planned in Finland, then it’s logical that the release in other countries should happen at a similar time. So while I cannot say with full confidence that the global release will be on September 23rd, it does at least seem like a good starting point, if nothing else. Secondly, this information only relates to the i9000 Galaxy S. While it is fully possible that the four USA Galaxy S devices will receive froyo around this time, we cannot be sure of this based upon this information alone. In the meantime, let’s hope that this information is accurate, and that the Galaxy S receives its helping of Froyo soon.
thanks for sharing but this is old news
How about HTC Desire getting theirs from T-Mobile today then ?

sorry miss read
I am thinking that since I was opened this threat, we can post on which country the update will be release when will be released, because I am afraid that is not going to be worldwide and I am guessing that also depends a lot if the phone if locked on a network or purchased network-free.

Well it's not going to be world wide same time. And I sure hope it's not going to be on 23rd this month, cause it's not good at all, if it will be like the release of 9/9/2010 leaked froyo. It is NOT ready.
If they release it like this, it will be like Epic Fail.
if you are asking a question then add a question mark to the thread title please. it saves people from clicking into a useless thread. and when i say useless i mean it really is old news and there will be nothing but speculation in here.
Looks like upgrade will be later than expected
According to an article over at brighthand.com, Froyo won't come to us until late October now.
Yep, I read about it all day - now the only thing that I am curious is if this announcement is for worldwide or not
I hate you for bumping this thread and giving my false hopes ;(. And it's not -official-, it's news based on a rumor.
If it was official it would be a worldwide announcement by Samsung...

Time for some bad news

the samsung galaxy s our phones will not get updated till mid-April claims.
@samsungsuomi :Galaxy S:n Android 2.3 -päivityksen testausvaihe on loppumetreillään. Uusi ohjelmistoversio saapuu ladattavaksi huhtikuun puolivälissä
which translates to: Galaxy S Android 2.3 update to the testing phase is a late stage. The new version of the software download arrives in mid-April,
if these sources are correct Samsung owes us all a apology as they promised march we will be getting gingerbread
or by getting gingerbread they meant leaked ?

An apology for what - all news we were receiving the past months were "unofficial sources" or rumours or "i know i guy who knows a guy who works at S", I never actually read anything official, e.g. on a samsung website.
Even though the news, which was "almost" official (samsung romania facebook), rejected an actual release date at the end of march.
Just stay relaxed, an update will come in a few hours / days / weeks / years
Kind regards,
ww
I don't know why people always think that they deserve an apology from Samsung or that they get bad software support. Does anybody here have a written (or otherwise) guarantee that Sammy is giving us GB at a specific time? I guess not...
I admit that the first Eclair ROMs were crap and the GPS could be better, but seriously stop the whining, it's like talking with little kids that want their candy! Just wait until it's done and if it takes two weeks longer to sort out some bugs, then so be it...
I agree....they should apologize for possibly not living up to "a friend of a friend said" rumors, or for changing their roadmap to suit the pronouncements off the cuff on the facebook page of a regional Samsung distributer in a small market?
Really?
Or because Tricky used what he felt could possibly be the final 2.3.3 (though from user reports if it IS final, to quote Ricky Ricardo, Samsung's got some 'splainin to do) to make a big entry into the ROM Kitchen team?
Somehow I don't think so. No apologies required, from anyone. Just patience.
To be honest, considering no source is released and there seem to be various problems/quirks with JVK, I would prefer they take a couple weeks and give us a much more ready for prime time version.
Relax, Gingerbread is coming...just be patient and enjoy your 2.2.1 Custom ROMs and be grateful again you aren't stuck with just a single flavor of iOS.
Since I'm a new user and I cant post links, I'm just going to quote. Finnish branch of Samsung has announced a press release a few hours ago through a publishing company:
Translated in Google Translate said:
Samsung Android-range success of the phone Galaxy S is updated Android 2.3. Update arrives in mid-April.
Soon Android successful Android phone is updated Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)-version of the software. The update is a welcome gift for the Galaxy S owners. Update the test phase is late stage, and the new OS version arrives users to download in mid-April.

Maybe because it looks like JVK is not the final release version and still has some bugs?.
The thing with these web blogs and tech news pages is they all tend to get their "exclusive" news from the same sources which 9 out of 10 times are wrong. Case in point recent news quoting Samsung Mobile Facebook page which wasn't as it was the SamsungGalaxyS Facebook page which looked remarkably similar until you read the owner info. Something you would think they would check first really. Egg face say no more.

I can't see why people can't use their time anticipating the new release. It's not your time, obviously. Some people want to flash their phone with a safe, official firmware and want to know some ETA when it's going to happen. It's not like people are F5'ing every Android news site. Of course, this can hold but can't there be any speculation? It's up to XDA's moderators to decide, is this topic worth of discussing.
What comes to the first post, this is good news (if true) and in my opinion most reliable newsbit so far about Gingerbread. You shouldn't take it for granted that Samsung is liable to update its firmwares and "breaks promises" if doesn't. Operating as a company, Samsung's every firmware update is giving something to us, the customers. When people buy their phones, Samsung's is not liable to update firmwares if there's nothing critically wrong with it. Froyo is good but now we are on the road towards something even better. And it's a win-win situation to us.

I think even mid April is a tad optimistic. That's like 2 weeks.. and there's quite a bit left to fix and add. Together with the speed of which samsung works, I'm guessing May at the earliest.

We know a number of you in Malaysia are waiting for the A500 Honeycomb 3.2 OTA which we said will be out on 10 Sep 2011. We would like to inform you in advance that we have received communications that the patch will not be out on this date. We know you are disappointed and angry, and we truly apologize. Hey guys.. Mid september is not necessarily the 10th. So you could both be right. If we are going to be nitpicking...15th is mid September, and it says from MID september and going onward to October at least.
And for the record...I am just as impatient as you are.
This BS and sux ass... Even if they just delay by 5 days its sucks that they keep f-ing delayng. If u give a date then you gotto commit to it!
But... is it really THAT important to upgrade to 3.2 ? For what I've read, 3.2 has only small changes like the zoom feature and SD support from the PC ...
I think I can wait for that... in fact, I could even bypass this upgrade and take 4.0 when they publish it towards the end of this year...
Sometimes people gets the "update fever" for nothing .. XDDD

Uh well considering that all the so called features that DOES NOT work in 3.1 and they are suppose to have fixed in 3.2 including general speed, yes I find it very hard to wait, I couldn't give a damn about the stupid zoom feature.
The reason for the long delay is obviously because they trying to fix as many current bugs as possible. Zoom nonsense is just an extra.

We've got dual core, 1GB RAM, 720p screen... I'm pretty sure we'll fit into ICS requirements... so you'd better start a thread "4.0 When???" And begin ranting of how late is Acer with the ICS update The official 3.2 update will come when it's ready - it's a fact of life and we can't do anything to make it come sooner. If anyone is so impatient, they should flash a cooked ROM and stop complaining about the sky being too blue and the water too wet .

Considering that A501 is stuck at 3.0.1 and will not have 3.1... 3.2 means 3.1 for A501 as well. So yes, is really THAT important for A501 users.

These things are totally different from Microsoft, which is hands free, for Android, many of us would like the manufacturer to take responsibility of get us up to date, how so difficult that will be? Why Motorola, or Asus can do it but Acer can't? I know there're even worse companies on this front, like Dell, but since you can't totally rely on the software company to update automatically, then you'll have to do your job.
I still like PC much more, nobody's panic for the coming security updates

Ice Cream Sandwich coming to Galaxy S II, Samsung UK confirms

from engadget
Here's some exciting, if somewhat unsurprising news for Galaxy S II devotees: Samsung's UK outpost has just confirmed that the handset will indeed receive an upgrade to Android 4.0, delectably known as Ice Cream Sandwich. As of this moment, details are relatively scarce, and Sammy has yet to make similar declarations for markets outside of the UK -- but at least it's coming. "The Galaxy S II will be receiving ICS, but there are no dates confirmed as yet," the company wrote in a tweet this morning. "We will keep you posted." As will we.
ICS officially confirmed!

Upgrade?
Hello,
Sorry if this is a silly question (and also my english), My friend about to buy Samsung SII and he heard that ICS will be available on this device. He asked me either to buy it now or wait for the ICS to be available on the device because he worried if he buy it now, he won't be able to get it upgraded. I owned SII but never upgrade it before, i know SII can simply be upgrade from Kies but i didn't do it yet. He ask me can it be upgrade through Kies as well or need to send it to Samsung shop to get it upgraded. I have no idea at all how to get the ICS to the device, and my friend scared to buy and he want to wait for the upgrade available on the device straight from the shop.

You install the Samsung Kies software, plug the phone into the computer, then press the "Update" button in Kies and walk away for an hour or so.
That's it.
Don't hold your breath for an official version for 3-4 months though.

Official 4.2 update discussion.

Hi.
I saw official launch of mega series on samsung site.
Mega 5.8 and 6.3 are using dual core processor with 1 gb of ram. ( 1.5 gb on gsmarena)
They are launched with 4.2.2.
So by this I can assume that sammy will roll out 4.2.2 for note as well. Though wait will be long.
What's your take on this. Any views?

Thens what's your take on this.
I think it is profit manners not about hardware power

Any views?

Hardware is NOT an issue.
Sammobile received news from an insider a few months ago that the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Note should both be getting updates to 4.2.2.
Their insider isn't always right though, so this could just be a load of bollocks but still. You never know...
Another faulty update process made with no interest and no real testing at all? Thanks, but no thanks. I'll stick to 4.1.2 after a clean flash, which will surely be the peak for this device in terms of performance/functionality/estability.
But of course will be interesting for the dev community, if we all live enough to see it...

While I hope we can get one or two more performance updates (especially regarding the S-Note application!) plus an updated unlock screen, I don't believe the phone needs anything else. My aging N7000 has served me well, especially after a fresh battery replacement.
I doubt that the update will be of any use if it isn't released any time soon. This fall the Note will have been available for 2 years. That's a very long life circle for a phone. Very soon people's Notes will start to die, one after another. And by the time the update will be published there will be hardly any Notes left

4.2 should come for our Note: Galaxy S4 Mini and Galaxy Tab 3 have a dual core proccesor and 1 gb RAM Specs. Samsung sold more than 15 millon of GT N7000 so, its not an unknow phone like the Galaxy Fame or others and they will bring still a lot of support. I guess the 2014 will be the last year of updates for our Note. Dont wait to a major update this year, they first need to finish updating the 4.1.2 to the whole world, then will start the 4.2 updates. You might wait to a November/December leak...
Sorry my bad english
I do not beleive for any future update. SAM forget about his childs after the year. I faced with this already with my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Spec is the same like Note. But last update comes more then year ago, it was 4.0.4
The Note WILL receive Android 4.2.2. It will, however, be the last official update that it'll receive.
There's no date for the update. Samsung will update both the Note II and the S3 before, so when they receive it, we can expect it in about a month or two.

When the redsox win the world series again we will get 4.2.2
You really are just making this up. You have no inside info. Same thing was said by everyone about 4.1.2. Not saying you are wrong, but I am saying that your statement had absolutely no factual basis from within your personal knowledge.

My statement, as you say, is based on history and facts.
First off, SamMobile already confirmed that the Note and the S2 will receive Android 4.2.2, and that it'll be the last official update. Do a simple search and you'll confirm it. They have the track record to back this.

Then, this is exactly the same situation that happened with 4.1.1 and 4.1.2.
Rest assured, we'll receive 4.2.2. It'll come after the Note 2 and the S3, and before the Red Sox wins another WS.
Well I hope your right. But sammobile has been wrong many times in the past. Maybe when the dodgers win

well anyway the TW 4.2 isn't particularly good for me. And btw, the smart scroll and those gesture features, are they purely firmware features or they are hardware dependent too? We got the smart scroll in 4.1.2 upgrade, not sure if we'd get the smart scroll this time...

However, SamMobile said some devices will get Android 5.0, while this android build wasn't showed by Google or even leaked. So we dont know if SamMobile's source was saying the truth or not. We dont know if 4.2.2 will be the last update, if will get S4 UI, if will be more faster, we dont know ANYTHING about this. The best thing we can do right now is look at the S3 leaked 4.2.2 firmware, because i think it will be the same rom that could have in our phones. I expect we will have the update (or the leak) in November or December.

Maybe because it's the only country in the world when they bother to play it?
4.1.2 or 4.2.2........It doesn't matter much until and unless samsung stabalizes the update...........they released 4.1.2 update so late...and it was not smooth and performance wise it's so power hungry.
Also the touchwhiz interface is so slow with 4.1.2 update. So samsung must stabalize it before jumping it to 4.2.2
Well note still is a very capable phone. But its true that it has almost served its purpose. Spending time to make its update will need more workforce and distraction from focusing on newer devices. We will also get bore from it soon. But i still am happy to have this device and it was a nice decision to opt for this device. Though it will get the 4.2.2, but not the KLP...
