I just rooted my Epic, and I need to know, what is the best, most stable Froyo rom out?
Sent from my Epic 4G
they're all awesome.
They are all (mostly) stable.
Try one on and see how it fits.
If you don't like it, flash another. It's not too terribly addicting.
It all depends on what you are looking for. Me personally I like the Frankenstein rom but I had radio issues and switched to the midnight rom and it runs very well.

Why do questions like this even get asked? If there were ROMs that were inferior in every way, such that preference had no bearing... they wouldn't be on the first page or two of the forum.
You are going to have a favorite. Go start trying stuff like everyone else did.
Like I've said a million times that this question was asked. What works for others might not work for you. Flash to you find one you like
Sent From Da Hood.
When I first started flashing I had the same questions and it is nice to be pushed in the right direction. Which gain it is all personal preference. Some roms run better than others but then some roms have the theming that some people are looking for. So my suggestion is read through some of them and the change logs look at some of the screenshots in the threads and flash it if you like what you see. Once you have flashed a couple times you won't hesitate to do it again and again and again to try the different ones there are. I think I have tried 7 or 8 different roms on my epic and 7 or 8 when I had my evo and I was constantly switching from one to the next to the next back to one I had previously and so on depending on the updates that had been applied and the different changes that were made. So try them all then go back to what you like. When you have found what you like stick with it until another version comes out with an update try it and see if you like it. It does get a little bit addicting. It is very hard to brick an epic because of the capabilities of flashing back using odin. So don't hesitate in flashing as many as you like.
Thanks everyone, I'll start trying some tonight.
Edit: ok I found one that looks promising but I have no idea how these modem things work. I never had to do that to install roms on my hero. Anyway, how do I install a modem?

Froyo DK28 Odin Link with Modem
Follow instructions and you should be good. You can install other roms after this if you like.
Which method did you use to get to froyo?
I really hate to advertise, but I feel the need I guess... Frankenstein FROYO is going to come out tomorrow night, its about 94mb zipped right now and solid,I'm still working to make it even smaller, stay tuned...

I'd be interested to see how different it is. I liked your last version for the most part, but boot up time was way too long. Would be nice to see the additional apps/add-ons included so they don't have to be installed individually (or maybe provide them as a pack somehow?) In general, it's a great ROM though.

I would avoid odin as much as possible just my opinion, i would much rather flash the dk28 modem with the flashable zip and noobnls stock dk28 rom first:

hello fellas
this was as pm for supercurio mentioned i cant send him one and cant answer/make a topic in the dev sektion so i decided to make a new topic in the general sektion if someone could give him the info ive got if he didnt knowed that, that would be nice
so the info ive got for you is:
a friend of mine got the nexus s (i9023) and i compared my sgs and the nexus s with the android system info tool cause i would like to know why its that bit better
1st thing i saw was that the 2 phones have exactly the same processor and gpu the only thing is that the nexus s got a few more sensors
so why its faster
at this point i looked at the mountpoints and what amazing surprise the whole nexus s runs on ext4 even the system, data, dbdata etc.
so my thoughts are that it could be worth to have a look at the nexus s sources cause of the same hardware of the phones i think that the missing features can be found there
im not a coder but im a linux enthosiast and more hardware interrested but i thought this could be usefull for making ext4 work on the sgs
so with the best regards

Ext 4 Does work on the SGS, its called a lagfix, and anybody running a custom ROM / Kernel is probably using Ext 4.
unless i have misunderstood your post ???

I do not mean to be rude but you are approximately one year late with this idea of yours.
As far as I can tell the OP may have had one of three goals in mind when they put this post up:
1) The OP is saying that Ext4 would be a viable option for the file system on the SGS: Yes, this was discovered and almost universally implemented on custom ROMs and kernels here. In fact, searching for the term Ext4 in the i9000 forums brings up more than 250 threads where Ext4 is a keyword. The OP may even find some of them instructive.
2) The OP is saying that devs may be able to learn a new way to implement Ext4 on the i9000 by studying the file structure of the Nexus S: I would doubt that. The file system is the file system no matter the hardware it is mounted on, besides which everyone has already made very clear that as far as Android implementation the Nexus S and the SGS line are pretty much identical.
3) The OP was trying to illustrate WHY Supercurio doesn't accept random PMs: Mission accomplished.
lol i knowed that my sgs runs on that lagfix
but there are missing features in 2.3.3 and it seems that the the nexus s (also running 2.3.3 and the same processor) has that missing features implemented in the kernel
or im wrong what supercurio writes in his post about the ext4 lagfix on 2.3.3 for the sgs
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Try any Custom Kernel, Speedmod, Voodoo Stable, DamianGTO, Dark Core & many more. All have the option to convert all partitions to ext4.
Or you can try Darky, Docs, Juwe's or any other Custom Rom, The Kernels included with all custom roms usually support conversion to ext 4.
And yes ext4 on SGS make it Super fast. I use it personally & really like the fast response of ext4 compared to RFS.
Just try it. If you are on stock Rom I would suggest to try a custom kernel from Development Section of this forum to see how it feels. Search for any of the kernels i mentioned & follow the installation instructions there.
so let me get clear
supercurio writes here:
[KERNEL] Hacked Lagfix/Ext4 Samsung Galaxy S Gingerbread - JVB
that there are missing features in the kernel of 2.3.3 jvb
my thoughts are that these missing features can be found in the nexus s kernel sources cause it runs also an 2.3.3 release of android
Galaxy S is not as fast as NS because of bad samsung coding and bad framework implementation. Try CM7 on SGS and see it is as fast.
I now use with samsung s gingerbread - jfs filesystem and I can see it s faster than ext4 but still not cm7 fast (which has ext4).

I was wondering if its possible to use a rom from say EF02 and flashing it over top of the framework of the newest leak. Ive noticed that people have been using kernals from eg22 and things like that, Is that only because the kernal is external from the actual file system partition? Even eg22 themes seem to work on the new leak. Im using Srf1.2 with the new modem and its great, but there are still things i really miss about gingerbread. I was snoopinng around the Acs Bombozile rom postings on the ACS forums and people were talking like they had flashed than rom over the newer frame work and not just the modem.

i doubt you could just use the framework from one rom and the rest from another without heavily edited code, if you want gingabread just flash the lastest leak, eh06 is pretty stable.

Hey guys Im new to the atrix 4g and was wondering what the best ICS rom is for the atrix 4g is in terms of stability and speed. Also, any kernel recommendations? Do I just install via CWM?
As anyone will tell you, it's mostly opinion for what's best. Apart from turl and jokersax's ROMs, they're all highly customizable, and in my experience they are all stable enough for a daily ROM.
They can all be installed from CWM, but you need to clear the /data, /system and /cache partitions when you upgrade from Gingerbread. You'd be best getting jokersax's Kitchen Sink installer, since it has several ROMs in one file. From that, you can switch between them easily and see what you prefer.
AOKPCB + faux's kernel...

jokers ics is really nice, but I like the ics MIUI rom, very nice UI and feels a lot more customisable in general. its also based on jokers ics but I think its outdated! video camera also doesn't work but you can download an app for it
This is purely subjective. I suggest you read the individual rom threads in the dev section, and/or try different roms out or yourself to see what fits your particular needs the best. Also, there are multiple threads on this subject already.
That being said... thread closed.

I know this is another one of those very opinionated threads, but this isn't for MY phone. I rooted my friends Fascinate over a year ago and flashed a ROM for him. It did really well for a long time, but just recently his phone started getting really buggy and slow. Just wondering what you guys recommend for a really nice stable, but quick ROM?
Also...bit off topic, but are there any good Audio Mods for the fascinate..?
Any of the ones on the main page of the development section are quality Roms some may have a quirk or two but generally nothing that can't have a workaround,,
you just really have to embrace what jellybean is and what the developers have done for us
Which is give us the very latest/best android is offering right now that that runs on a package 3+ yrs old
Also spend some time and just read their main page and last page or two to see what they are all about...
Each one will require some degree of personalization to make it fit your/friends style/needs
With that said here are the main ones:::

Dam they got Jelly Bean running on the Fascinate?? I had a Fascinate way back in the day before I got a Thunderbolt...couldn't even get Jelly Bean on that haha...now I have a Nexus...like I said this is for my friend. I running PA on my nexus and LOVE it so maybe I will try that on his phone, but thanks for the suggestions!
Oh...what recovery do you recommend? Do you have to use ODIN at all...I don't have it setup on my computer and I remember it being a pain in the ass to setup and use
The new PA is an awesome choice

Well he is already rooted with a custom ROM so I am guessing I don't have to use all those steps again...I can just go into recovery, wipe and flash
Depends on what rom he is on...
Section 4 deals with foolproof way to go odin to jb,,, with links and all...just have to follow very closely

Ahh...well he is on an ICS ROM...I will just go the ODIN way I suppose
Last part of section 4...
*For those currently on a ICS rom and want to upgrade to a Jellybean rom or vise versa. Just download the rom of choice to sd, boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, then flash rom...should be no need to go all the way back to stock unless your having alot of issues with force closes and what not.
Only thing to add is you'll need to flash the ROM 2-3 times because of a new partition layout...
Don't do anything extra... And it should work fine

So keep flashing it over in recovery 2-3 times??
Any recommendations on a good recovery for him?
I highly recommend CM 10.1, although I had a weird issue lately where no matter what performance settings I was using my music would skip around every 10 min or so, but I'm sure jt will find a fix for it eventually. If you don't constantly play music on your phone like I do then you probably wouldn't mind that little gripe. I've been on Helly Bean now for a few days with no problems, which is basically CM 10.1 with a few extras and Devil Kernel baked in. I know Paranoid is a really good rom, but I haven't tried it myself. We're lucky enough to have great developers that all make excellent roms so just take your pick of the popular ones and have at it

He just means it will abort the flash to warn you that your phone is being switched to the new partition layout and you will lose all your data... it's just a formality and nothing to worry about. All you need to do is flash again after the warning and it'll do it for real
---------- Post added at 11:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:49 PM ----------
Oh and as far as audio mods, there are a few out there (Acid mod I think?) but if you use CM 10.1 it will come with DSP manager which lets you tweak it a bit, but personally I just use Power Amp and the EQ on that is just phenomenal and I don't even feel like I need anything else because of how good it works.
Alright thanks guys! Just trying to figure out what recovery to upgrade to...maybe TWRP?
Yes it will pop up and say error 7 or warning, but just go ahead and chose reinstall the same zip file again... And it will give error again, so repeat... After the 3rd time,,,, then reboot
The cwm recovery is built in
The hellybean roms have their own with some extra options,,, plus if you want to flash their kernel,,, there is a thread with the info
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
If you want to use TWRP then go to this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133358 but as hhp already pointed out, each rom comes bundled with it's own recovery so the only time you need to really flash your own is if you're coming from stock and flash CMW4 fixed for CM7

Ohh...weird...its been so long since I had a Fascinate and my TB and Nexus aren't that way haha. Thanks for all your help. I may just flash back to stock using Step 4 and then put PA on or something. His phone is pretty dam buggy, lots of force closes, or permission errors so I figure I will try to get it as cleaned up as possible
if lack of activity is any indicator(as in not too much complaints) then I just want to cast a vote for JellyBro. I am now on 2-25-13 version and its been pretty smooth and solid for me thus far.
it;s working well enough that I was considering setting up a device for my mom(who defintely doesn't have the patience for stuff that doesn;t work).
I use GeeWiz 2.8.1... it has Voodoo audio, and is super fast and smooth. Along with the KGB FA16 Kernel... All of which can be found in my sig including the theme.
I've tried dozens of mtds e.g ICS, JB, etc. and even GeeWiz 4.2... but the GW 2.8.1 is the most stable and fastest. You can also go with 2.9 from the main GeeWiz 2 thread. Even though it's Gingerbread... it's up there with all the newer roms for speed and dare I say even more stable than most newer Roms. AND.. Everything works... unlike a lot of the newer JB roms out there.
Hope that helps.

from what I remember, your going to have to ODIN back to the stock EH03 then up to geewiz , this is because both of partitioning and recovery differences.
.
You don't have to Odin back to stock. The link in my dropbox is a full wipe odin... it's just like going back to stock but not. Just odin the tar and you're good to go. Full eh03 support.
