Samsung will never make gingerbread for our phone, cause now there is the galaxy ace and the mini. So they won't spend time in developing android 2.3 for us.

why does the coding take so long for samsung? if 2 developers can port CM in some weeks, samsungs coderteam will bring gingerbread in 1 week to g3 .... oO

I think official android 2.3 is impossible for our phones. Samsung hasn't even realised official non-branding froyo for our phones. I5800 has been abandoned by samsung developers.

Because it's not about the ability or competency, it's about business rationale. Samsung's dev team could compile both the kernel and the whole Gingerbread for less than a few hours and polish the bugs in a couple of days - but they don't want to. Then they won't sell you the new Galaxy Ace (or any other 2.3 phone) if you can have a phone with the same capabilities if you install 2.3 on SG3.

Exactly.... and considering the job they did for our so called official builds it's better they don't.... i hate the samsung modifications to stock Android anyways....... and i really think that marcellusbe will do a way better job and will actually "fix" the found bugs!

Official/Unofficial doesnt matters. Its the same Gingerbread.
Official Gingerbread from samsung (for galaxy 3) < Gingerbread For galaxy 3 from Marcellusbe! Just wait a bit

Exactly..... gingerbread from marcellusbe will be an actual stock AOSP.... and it's way better!

Yep...samsung give rom's with craprware...and useless software...marcellusbe will give us a firmware really optimized for our phone

I surely do hope they will not release gingerbread. They already gave us froyo which is good for a budget phone like ours is. If they start supporting us forever the sales for i5800 would turn from a profit to loss, and that's not the point of business

Droid x rom compatibility...

Will droid x roms work on our i9003 as both have same chipsets...but it is a cdma phone and resolution is 480*854..

but it is a cdma phone this is the biggest problem because we need GSM module to work, to do this we need GSM drivers compiled for kernel from droidX fw.

So if I flash a fw of droid x in my i9003,then then network would not work but will the rest of the features work?

May be in the near future as we get CWM recovery

CM7 is a distant dream, as none of the Devs have adopted this phone. To port CM7 we need a good devs support. Its a hard fact.

but phones like galaxy 5,optimus gt540 and galaxy 3 which are not so popular have cm7 support.... its not fair for us (i9003) owners..

The dev's most likely have one, or had one, and could thus support it. Buy them one to support, or stop complaining.
No idea why i'm still reading this forum, the complaining is getting old. :/

No There are 3 ways:
1. Become developer
2. Donate the phone to developer
3. Wait for Samsung

If we are taking about CM7, samsung cannot help and becoming dev over night is not easy, to port custom firmware. St the max we can port a theme out an application.

I'd very much like to see a MIUI rom, been some time since a new one emerged on xda and none based on 2.3.3 has been made here yet.
Besides, functionality wise I think it's one of the best aftermarket firmwares too imo. Would be really nice and awesome if a miui rom was cooked on xda once more

I would love to see some of the theming abilities of MIUI (being able to change lockscreen,status bar icons, etc) in a stock-ish hybrid rom. Or some sort of built-in theming engine.

Tripmiui latest release works fine.........sense is cool but super hard to port...........but if you could do that go for it........ if you could make a 100% working aosp or cm7 that is stable and fast go for that

Tripnmiui has bugs and data issues which aren't going to be ironed out anytime soon as development has stopped or at least been put on hold. If you could make a stock fully working miui rom that would be awesome. Why not aim for higher since there's no lack of cm7, stock, se lookalike roms etc etc

MIUI for sure =] I mean look at TripNFag / TripNBalls . His got his **** named as TripNDroid engineering which is basically all copy and paste from other tweaks . It doesn't even work properly, with alot of bugs, and glitches and lags everywhere .
If you could, MIUI please.
By the way TripNFag has left the x10 development, he got a new phone, goodbye TripNBalls fanboys.

Ha 'TripNBalls' lol made my day. But on a serious note, miui is boring and I doubt that trip will leave the x10 community. Maybe attempt an actual HTC sense port

I think u should join the original dev team who is porting this to nexus s. One ported to nexus s, it won't take me much time to get it working on sgs. U know a lot more and can help them, they are looking for devs to help them.

Development slowed down since there are no updates from Sony.. I am the one who likes to work on Official ROMs as it lets u use your phone with full hardware features working with stability...
You saw how I changed an Official Sony Stock ICS ROM to a completly AOSP ROM ... let JB come in, maybe I do same with that too but only if sony releases it..
For time being I dont think there is any use working on JB ROMs as performance will be the same and the extra features are not mind blowing enough to satisfy me of working on it...

When we were on Xperia x10, we had gingerbread on locked bootloader, just the kernel was 2.1 but we managed to get 2.2 and 2.3 Roms. It just needs some hard working devs
