I just made some pics with my S110 and they are not that bad when photoshoped a little. So I'm searching something for my device that can do
- resize
- brightness
- contrast
- gamma
- levels
- noise reduction
ATM I use Imageer, is there a better one? I'm missing the noise reduction in Imageer and the pics are pretty noisy so that would be welcome to edit them a little and bring em down to 640x480 before sending by email.

Pocket Artist 3
Wow, first time I hear of that software. I'll check that out asap. Thanks again.
By the way, does this tool work on magicians? The office forum has posts indication it does not: http://www.conduits.com/community/forum_posts.asp?TID=406&PN=1
it should work on Magician, but anyway try the second option....it's a software called "Idruna Photogenics"...
RAGO
I know photogenics but its extremely old and has not been updated in a few years while the newest version from pocket artist is from this september. Not sure how good photogenics still is.

That's about v3.1. I have v3.0 and it works perfectly so. Check out version 3. Its really Photoshop in a portable form.
I use Pocket Artist 3.1 on my JAM with no problems. I do not associate any file types with it though, that may be an issue.
Tried the new one (version 3.11) yet? That one just came out a few days ago.
By the way, I have Imageer installed atm and if Pocket Artist is good I gonne remove that one. BUT Imageer is the viewer for img files atm and I'd like Pocket Artist to stay out (read that it is a little slow) as a viewer. How do I switch the file types back to album or the included viewer?
Edit: Tried Pocket Artist 3.11 and boy am I impressed. This is THE most powerful img tool for ppc. I'm off to buy that at once. Thanks again for that tip!!! Its not that good as a viewer (the first start is kinda slow) but HTC Album fills in nicely here. This is really the "Photoshop" for PDA.
You can also modify the registry to enable the "Editor" utility for the built-in Album program. It will allow you to resize, crop, change gamma, brightness, hue and contrast without installing any additional programs. It does not support layers of course!
Registry Modification as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/Album/Disable Editor: set it to 0
That is nice to know for sure. Thanks for that.
I was searching for an editor that has one important function/filter: reduce grain or reduce noise. And Pocket Artist is the only that offers that filter. Thing is if I take some pics with the cam at xl res and do some level correction, contrast enhancements and grain reduce and then finally resize them to 640x480 they look pretty good for emails. Without the grain/noise reduce they dont look too good at all so that filter is more important than anything else to me when I want to send pics away by email.
I dont need the most function out of Pocket Artist, I only need 4 or 5 after all but the noise reduction is very very important to me and I've not seen a PPC implementation of it besides Pocket Artist. And ancient img editor called Photogenics had that too but the latest version is from 2001 and that is bejond good and evil so Pocket Artist is basically the only choice. Besides the workflow is pretty similar to Photoshop, the filter options for level correction etc. work very much like Photoshop. So if you know how to get things done with Photoshop Pocket Artist is the best there is.
Perpetual is a simple image zooming demo.
You can zoom on any of the 200 images, and the pixels will turn into other images to zoom, perpetually.
What is it for ?
Nothing ! It's just a proof of concept and a demo I made...
If you have any images to submit to add into the demo, feel free to post in the forum and we'll update as soon as possible ! I'm looking for images that have nice colors and an overall dominant one (that'll be used for the color detection) Thanks for helping support this useless project !
Download Perpetual
Also available :
Perpetual Image Maker
Sexy Image Pack
Kaiser47's DeviantART selection (really awesome pack !)
SaintSeya pack
Zen nature pack

A video is available on that page if you want to see what it looks like without downloading/installing
Thanks for the feedback, suggestions, and images !
Fascinating software - it works perfectly in portrait, its a bit slow and landscape, and it doesn't handle the change from portrait to landscape well.
Thanks for making my Kaiser much cooler however.
Any way the process could be automated, to make it into a semi-interactive screensaver?
Surur
Well, technically, it's automated on my PC (there's no way to add all the needed data for the colors of the 200 images alone ^^) : I just have a folder with the images, launch my .Net app, and it scans through all the images, sorts by color, and outputs both miniature views (to avoid overloading the memory) and a huge array with the number of the image to use for every 16bit color ^^
It takes a while to run on my PC, so it's unlikely to work on in realtime, would have way too much loading time. I have just thought of an alternative method to build the color array, it could work much faster, but would only be available for real-time if you have only a few images... and if you don't have many images, well... It won't work to well ^^ You need to have at least 50 or 100 photos, ranging in pretty much all the possible colors (my PC app outputs which colors are overpopulated and which aren't populated enough, to know which images to remove and what colors to search for) ^^
While it would be cool to use my own pictures, it would be nice to see it zoom through the stock images without me having to touch the screen with the stylus too, independently.
Surur
Well, this is a first release, I just wanted to have a quick proof of concept and that's it ^^
The future stuff that could be added :
- "Surface" button (to move back up)
- Auto button (could be nice to for lazy people ^^)
Anything else ?
A zooming back feature would be cool

Well, it should work on VGA, just that it's upscaled. I tested on emulator and the performance was good.
In theory, a 100% VGA version could be done. But the program is already 5MB, uses a lot of ram for all the images, and a full VGA version would just use 4 times more ram :s

*Edit*
Ok here are some random Pictures i found and had on ma system! I extra made them 240x240 so you dont have any work rescaling them
Btw i would like if the "zooming" effect could be more smoother and slower if its possible...
Hope you like ma pics!
Regards
Thanks, let me check that out.
As for zooming, the speed can be changed, not a problem I didn't actually test on hardware, just on emulator, so it might not be optimal yet...
TODO list (note to myself) :
- Auto-zoom
- Back button
- Speed button
edit : hey, nice set of pics I'll definately include most of them in the next release (either as additional pictures or as a remplacement. like flickr-color-picker.jpg which will be perfect to replace a sort of crappy image I had in the same style ^^) Thanks !

edit3 (last one, I promise !) :
Still looking for a good theme for the icon and the viewer, if anyone has an idea, please share !
I found few random pics... hope you can use them
Yay, those are awesome !
I'm currently finishing a set of 50 sexy photos, then I'll see if it works good enough with those
Cool and amazing app! Works perfectly on WM2003! Keep working
I think that you should make other app like that: http://www.mazaika.com/mazdownload.html for ppc (WM 2003 support for sure! ).
Nice work!
Thanks for the link. That one seems nice too, but the images are in 64x64, whereas I use nice and big 240x240 images ^^ I'm thinking of modifying my PC .Net exe and redistributing it... It could produce a file like myimages.prp which would contain all the data needed, and could be copied on the PPC to open it...
As for SexyPerpetual, tested, it works pretty well ! The images aren't the best as I used the first image pack I could download on bittorrent. Not sure what the forum policy is for the kind of stuff, so I will not post a link to download it. Just send over a quick PM requesting the link and I'll answer back
As for the video, if you want to take a look, here the link for the normal version's video : http://www.palib.info/blog/flvplayer.swf?file=http://www.xflib.net/Games/Perpetual/Perpetual.flv
Just keep replace the name by the sexy version's name and you should be able to view it (if the admins don't want this posted, please just tell me and I'll remove it !)
yes it woudl be cool if you can provide a tool that we can use to compile "our" versions with our pictures. it would be simpler than having to make special requests to you and sending many pics ?
but also if you really want pics, perhaps we can all send some to you ? public ftp or classic sharing sites like rapidshare ?
SexyPerpetual is very nice But insert "more naked photos" xD
BTW: I like kaiser47s idea
Kaiser47, feel free to use any method to send of photos
Yeah, I know, the sexy version misses a few naked photos ^^ But I just took a pack found on bittorrent, and used the ones with the most colors (because if I use only naked women on a white background, the transitions will be crappy, so I needed to have blue, red, etc....). If you have a pack with nice naked photos, I'll add them to the pack
I'm currently modifying the PC part of the code to generate a special file which could be distributed and read by the PPC app, that way anyone can do an image pack
Cool idea
I do not have ones so I will w8 for new versions xD
Is there any registry tweak that will allow you to zoom in closer with the album viewer software. It works great for the files I view but I need to be able to zoom in much more than it allows
Thanks
Mike
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can zoom in as far as the resolution of each image allows. I have some pretty high-res photo's (taken on a digital SLR) and I can zoom in on them until I start to see pixels. If you have low-res pics, you'll start seeing pixels much sooner.
Zooming in any further would be useless since it can't add any detail, you'll just see pixels the size of Lego blocks.
Edit: I realize you may want to examine an image pixel-per-pixel for some reason. In that case, sorry, I can't help.
Thanks for your response, If I could zoom in that close it would be great. I have some hi resolution files anywhere from 6-10 MB which open fine but I can only zoom in about 3 levels. If I could go to the level you describe, it would more than meet my needs.
Hm... Maybe there is a limit after all. I must admit I haven't tried any files in the 10mb region.
I've taken a quick look in the registry but I haven't come across anything that looks like it might solve this. Sorry.
I looked in the registry too but couldn't find any reference to HTCalbum at all. Guess I'll just have to start trying all the demos of the photo apps again...
There's a bunch of stuff under 'HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCAlbum'. Maybe you can find something I overlooked there.
Thanks, don't know why Resco didn't find that ref, I thought it scanned all directories. I couldn't find anything there either. I did change a dword from 2 to 3 in wheelzoomin frames but that didn't do anything obvious so I changed it back. Wonder if HTC support might be able to help, I've read that they're quick to respond to customer software issues but since this is more of a preference issue vs buggy software they may not offer up much.
Yeah, today I copied a 78 mega pixel image (actually a map) to my Leo and to my surprise, I can't zoom more than a certain amount in HTC Album. Anyone know a fix for this?
use resco photo manager, that one allows you to zoom in much more than the htc album. The newest version also supports multi-touch!
thanx! Tried resco; I'm flattered how they implemented multi touch this soon! only a month and a half after Leo's release.
It's really nice and fast (even faster refresh time than htc album) but I wish u could disable multi touch rotation. It's constantly confusing pinch with rotation.
I began to do the majority of my pleasure reading (commercial non-fiction books were in very short supply back then) on my Palm m500 back in 2003, and now I do the vast majority of all my reading on handhelds. The biggest advantage back then was never having to choose what book to carry around with me -- I could take my entire library on an SD card. The next biggest advantage was the backlight -- I experienced a dramatic reduction in eyestrain for night reading. I now purchase 2 or 3 paper books a year, and 30-40 ebooks a year.
I think e-ink is the most over-rated screen tech in existence. Once Pixel Qi ends up in a decent tablet, I might get one of those. But spending $200 on a device that is so limited, can't have a real backlight (ah the "joys" of having to lug around a friggin booklight) for night reading, and most of the cost is in the screen is insane. Especially when you can get most of the same benefits out of a cheap LCD (adding only some reflective layer tech) while preserving other media tasks like video. Until then, my TP2 is my primary reading device.
Book form
I hadn't anticipated this little advantage before I bought a TP2, but I'm becoming attached to it. When reading, I typically hold it in what I now consider to be book form (a little Nintendo DS terminology). Keyboard out, screen slightly tilted, index finger in gap between back of screen and base of device, leaving my thumb to rest right on the device's arrow keys, software used to keep the screen in portrait mode even though the kb is out.
For me, this particular form means easy page-turning and one handed reading while laying down before I go to sleep. Previously I tried assigning the volume slider for page turning, but found it not entirely comfortable. I assigned one of the lower face keys to page turn, but that wasn't any more comfortable than screen tapping (errant screen taps in both my reading applications also potentially bring up menus, which I find annoying).
If you have software that allows you to rotate the screen 180* or 90* (as Rhodium Keyboard Controller allows you to do manually), you can switch to the left hand if you like as well. You'd need to assign another key for page-turning on the opposite end of the keyboard, but RKC will allow you to assign letters to "up" and "down" for that application only, so it wouldn't affect usage outside your preferred reader application.
Software:
I've been using eReader (owned by B&N, managed by fictionwise, formerly palm digital media and peanut press) for 7 years, as that was my initial source of books. But when I switch to windows mobile, I hated the changes they made to their application and how much space WinMo's top and bottom bars took up (especially in widescreen mode). I instantly began requesting feature changes to it, but I doubt they'll ever get anywhere. WinMo isn't the hottest platform and they originally dev'd this one years and years ago.
I used Freda almost exclusively until upgrading to XDAndroid. Originally I just got it for some free sources like the baen free library, that use epub since Freda is one of only two epub readers on the market. But the full screen mode is so fantastic I've decided to go all in.
Now I use Moon+ reader, which still allows me to go fullscreen, choose a black background with green text, lock the screen in portrait and has a wide variety of other customization options. I do believe the TP2 is the best ereader using Android.
Color scheme
One thing I sort of liked about eReader for WinMo was that it allowed you to use textures as a background. They had pre-made marble and papery background images you could use. But when I start using Freda and had access to the full screen mode, I began experimenting with other plainer themes. I accidentally tried a black background with a sharp green text, and suddenly it was like I was reading on my old m500 again.
The advantages to this, especially for night time reading in fullscreen mode, are that 1) I've got a lot less white or whitish light pouring into my eyes making them uncomfortable 2) I can achieve better visibility for low light reading with a lower backlight level meaning I get longer battery life and 3) I'm comfortable reading smaller fonts with this particular setup than I was with lighter backgrounds (though I don't entirely understand why), meaning less frequent page turning.
You can do this with any reader, but doing so in the winmo ereader app kinda sucked some of the advantages out of it because there's no fullscreen mode, so I still had white light pouring off the top and bottom bars.
Extras
I use GSPlayer while I read, mainly because it has a sleep timer (I'll probably upgrade to microfi-nitrogen someday). So at night, I do my reading, then just as my eyes are feeling tired enough to sleep, I flip over to GSP and turn off the display, and then fall asleep to the relaxing mp3 of my choice. My TP2 is the last thing I use at night, and with G-Alarm, it's also the first thing I use in the morning. On XDAndroid, Mortplayer fills in for GSP.
What about you?
Do you eread with your TP2? How much and when? What's your software, book source, preferred colors and fonts? Widescreen, portrait, do you use book form? Do you page turn with keys or screen taps?
eReading is one of my primary mobile computing tasks, and has been for years. I think the TP2 is about the perfect mobile device for it at the moment (about the only thing better would be a TP2 + an HD2 sized screen... with Pixel Qi), but I haven't noticed a ton of people here talking about it. I'd love to hear from other big ereaders on their methods.
Mobipocket Reader is what I use. I touch the screen for turning pages.
iSilo all the way
I've been using iSilo from the beginning --all the way back from when they use WinCE? ok.. maybe Windows Mobile 2003 or something like that.
Best thing with iSilo is
1) Reader is free (you can use the free with limited functions, but does not hinder reading 'books')
2) iSiloX convert is free (convert any *.txt, *.htm, etc to iSilo format). There are various converters to convert your *.doc or *.pdf or what have you to *.txt to convert with iSilo.
3) iSilo has a very small foot print as compared to similar *.txt or *.doc files.
4) Easily configurable on all aspects from fonts/colors (foreground, background) to various keys to turn the page. When I switched to the Rhodium, I used the lower 50% or the screen to turn the page and the top to scroll up (back).
5) Easily install the iSilo.exe executable on the SD card and has catalogue-ing features.
Lastly, they've got iSilo versions for the Blackberry, Palm, Android and the iPhone (should you need it).
But don't take my word for it: http://isilo.com/
PS. Been reading ebooks on the PocketPC platform before even Kindle came out. Why spend $200+ on a standalone ebook reader, I could never figure out.
Opps, forgot to mention conversion. calibre is the ultimate tool in ebook conversion and organization. I don't think isilo is one of its many formats, but for anyone looking to do conversions to growing formats like epub, it's fantastic.

free books
Some free (legal) book sources: baen free library (commercial authors, mostly scifi and fantasy who release the 1st book or so in their series hoping you'll get hook and buy later versions -- I recommend David Weber), manybooks (downloads gutenburg project texts in many formats), smashwords (a lot of indies, not all free), http://www.feedbooks.com/, and you can also find a lot of indie authors freely distributing some of their work at mobileread et al.

If you have ebooks in a non-pdb format that you want to read in eReader for WinMo, you convert them to .pdb. After you choose to convert books there's a little dropdown in the upper right-hand corner for output format. If I misunderstood your question, please do post back.

Mobireader and haalireader can both read pdb files. Haalireader was very good but hasn't been updated for some time and really needs a dpad to control it. It was great on my Diamond but Mobireader is better on the TP2
Thanks!!!
Oh man, this is great! I've been looking for a decent ebook reader forever. I use to use MS Reader back in the QVGA days, but it is really not optimized for large, high-res screens like the TP2. And every other program was made 5+ years ago, has crappy Windows-3.1-esque visuals, and has a UI meant to be used only with a stylus.
Freda is AWESOME!!! Finally something as good Stanza on my iPod (or at least close). Thank you so much for sharing!
I have a huge collection of books in .lit format so have been forced to use MS Reader. Alas, it hasn't been updated in years and is showing its age.
My biggest gripe with Reader is that on my Tilt 2 I can't touch the tiny little page-turning arrows with my finger, so have to either use my stylus or open the keyboard and read in landscape mode and use the arrow keys.
Thanks to an earlier poster, I found calibre. I'm going to use that to convert my .lit library to a different format so I can use a different e-reader.

Same here. I'm at work and couldn't wait to try this out, so a little googling also turned up this site: www.2epub.com.
It's an online converter that will do conversions between .lit, epub, etc. I'll probably install Calibre on my home computer, but that site was helpful in a pinch.

I love Freda too. It's written by a guy who was very unsatisfied with current reader options, much like you and I. Personally, I only use it in full screen mode and page change with the arrow keys, but between screen tapping and making the soft buttons page turners, it's very friendly to a variety of users with different UI preferences.
He just emailed me a new version to test, so I expect sometime soon there will be some extra features to enjoy.

Calibre is wonderful, not only for conversions but also for organization of large book collections, which I have.
Be forewarned though, it doesn't typically handle DRM, so if your .lits are DRM'd, you might have to deDRM (there are a lot of projects to handle that, and you can take their output and have calibre put it in your format of choice) them before you convert them.
I have been using uBook http://www.gowerpoint.com/ for years. First on my Ipaq, then Axim x51v and now on my TP2. I has improved greatly to a great touch screen eReader that supports all kinds of standard file formats HTML, PDF, TXT and any of these can be in ZIP files.

If you use a zoom bar hack in Advanced Configuration, you can flip pages with the zoom bar. If you have AC on your TP2, go to menu > more settings > smarttouch, then add Microsoft Reader to the supported applications list. The hardest part is getting the right wheel sensitivity so that when you scroll you only flip one page. I'd tell you what the best number is but I just flashed my ROM and I forgot the correct setting But once you figure it out, it gives you a nice lil page turning feel to your ebooks.
My team has been vigorously working on a CAD application for android. I will post some screenshots of the tool if anyone is interested, so please let me know.
It's currently being tested and developed using a Motorola Droid running 2.0.1. Although we can run the emulator and test different screens using it, we find great difficulty in knowing if the "feel" is nice on a smaller screen.
Anyway - current features that are working:
Objects: Line, Circle, Ellipse, Rectangle, 3 Point Arcs, Text Areas
Drawing Modes: Orthographic (including 45s), Grid On Off, Snap Mode On Off (Endpoints, Centerpoints, Midpoints, Quadrants)
Other Things: Undo, Redo, Erase, Modify (reshape & move), Pan, Layering System, Linetypes, Colors & Text Sizes.
In The Works: Zoom (Option for Pinch), Configurable Toolbar (Add/Remove Tools), Export to DXF & Linetypes.
We are looking for a few people that would be willing to get in on a "PRIVATE Beta" to assist us with the continued development. We have our day jobs, so this is a project that when we have time to work on, we do. However, we do spent quite a bit of time working on it .
Anyway - We want to be picky about the testers, simply because we need to have a nice round group of people. Not plumpy, just round. We need a couple guys that are good with input, finding problems, etc. And we also need a few that dont know anything about CAD and can help us to see if the average joe can figure it out.
We also need a couple good mathmeticians or programmers. Or even one would do. We are having some trouble computing certain boundaries (ellipses to be more precise) that we need to understand so that we can build in other commands like Trim or Extend. (Plus our select option on ellipses is a bit hokey, but knowing how to find an ellipse will solve that for us)
For now, the only assistance I can give you is through the board here, and help you get started. The tutorial will come soon, once we get the basics figured out as to how we want to make it really work.
Anyway - To make a long story even longer - let me know if you might be interested. I would be more than happy to post some screenshots if you like of its current state. So let me know if you are interested.
Thank you very much for sticking through the long a$$ read, or even for skipping through to the "thanks" is enough for me.
That being said - LMK! Thanks!
A capacitive touch screen doesn't seem a good candidate for controlling a smooth CAD experience. However on second thought, when coupling together this technology with a trackball, the possibilities really open up. Harness these well and I know you'll be onto something here.
Post some screens to show everyone the progress of your development and I'll let you know if I'd be interested in testing.
Cheers
Well if your looking for anyone with CAD knowledge, I have a degree in engineering with CAD, and Pro Engineer. I don't have much time to devote to beta testing, but I do have time every now and then. I run a ION with 1.6. Good luck on your software!

That should be plenty of screens to keep interest.
@Lancealot - Thank you very much, and I completely agree, that when we started this, there was some doubt as to how precise you could actually be using a "touch based" screen. The good news, through playing with it, and given ability to set tolerances based on the size of your "touch area" as well as snapping options, we found that you can actually be quite precise.
Ill fiddle with it a little today, put together a drawing and give you a nice example of something that can be made with this.
Keep in mind, this is a work in progress, and although much of the functionality that is currently built into the tool, is at a "finished" state, there is certainly room for input and comments from others that may find use in this tool.
Anyway - here are the screenshots as promised, let me know if you have any further questions.
(Again - sorry about the inconvenience on the links)
(edit to update image types to jpg instead of png)
@zul8er - we are certainly interested in your input. Check out the screenshots and let me know if you are still interested. We dont need a huge commitment, but anything that you might be able to provide would certainly be a big help.
Android 1.6 is the minimum OS currently supported. We need to do some work on the graphics to go as far back as 1.5 to compensate for screen size, and we intend on doing so.. Just not at this current time.
I would be interested in trying out your CAD program. I've been doing CAD for ove 10 years now, started with AutoCAD but have been using Solidworks for the last 8 years.
In addition to using the touch screen for input, will you be able to enter X and Y coordinates using a keyboard or virtual keyboard?
What format will it save the files? DXF, JPG, or what?

Currently the file format is a proprietary format. But we are currently (today actually) working on saving out to a DXF format to be able to reload your files into AutoCAD or other supported softwares.
The ability to import is also in the works, but will require some massaging on the users end to make sure the DXF file is not binary etc. (MTEXT may not be supported either)

We have toyed with the idea of being able to put in specific dimensions on objects, and also work with x/y coords, but at this time, it only supports point to point drawing. We arent completely sure if we intend on building a "FULL ON CAD" application, or an application for people to use to simply get an idea of what they need to do for a job. The other key, is to keep the application at a price range that is reasonable for people. Most "PocketCAD" applications run around 50 bucks a copy - and rightfully so. To keep the tool at a reasonable range (below 10 or 15 dollars) it may need to be a bit lighter weight than those. Most people cringe at a 2.99 app..
IF we could devote our time 100% i am sure we could build a really nice full blown cad app Unfortunately as with most of us, the day job prohibits some of that time.
Its a WIP I'll put you on the list. Thanks for the input.
Are you looking for beta testers?
Hi, are you looking for beta testers. I'm a long year CAD user, and I'm sure I can help with the app development.
[email protected]
Have you tried using some of the java based cad software as a source for your project? There are many and some might be open source.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ycad/
Yeah I am still interested. It will be neat to play with and see how it works. The coordinate input is a good idea, also, ever play with Pro Engineer? They have a cool way of building an initial drawing. You just sketch, regen, and then input your dimensions to make the object to your liking. Makes things a lot faster and easier to edit a shape if changes need to occur.
I dont know how in depth you want to go, or if that idea can be used.
My email is [email protected]
Nice
Give me a couple more days to get a good product out for you guys to test. Currently we are cleaning up a few little "we'll get that later" issues, and should be good to go by mid/late next week.
Thanks for providing the contact info, I will shoot you a message through email shortly.
Thanks agian for the interest.
@zul8er: nice. Look forward to hearing how you like the feel of it. I havent had a chance to play with ProE, as AutoCAD has been my forte for the last couple decades. Ill see if i can any kind of demo for ProE, and get an idea of how it works. Who knows Anything to make it easier for everyone is a good thing.
But yah - the indepth thing is the issue. We keep tossing with ideas and putting them "on the list" in case people start asking for them. I guess it just depends on how people really want to use this tool. (and of course, how much time we can continue to devote to it) - bah i hate day jobs
I enjoyed the screen shots that were posted. Any idea whether you guys will support rendering/raycasting, or physics with inverse kinematics? Either way it looks great; Sign me up!
haha Not sure if we are going to go the IK way. Maybe as a different project, something more suited to 3D, but for this app, we are only intending on running the 2D route.
My lack of knowledge about the OpenGL portion, really limits us with regards to 3D implementation. I spent a good 3 days just trying to get ahold of loading in a 3D model.. Still never got there (or would have probably released a 3D model viewer first).
At any rate, its hard to say where this will go. It mostly depends on the overall interest i suppose. Its certain that the sky would be the limit, if time were as available as the sky
But cool.. Glad I was able to keep your interest.
Currently (as I type even) I am finishing up all of the help documentation for the app, the inline tutorial, and what not.. A couple more days on the file handling (DXF in particular) and should be set to go for a BETA run. ('couple more days' - like we all havent heard enough of that)
@lancelot - can you send me your email address via private message? That way I can do the BETA communications through there (link to files etc). You are welcome to email me as well:

cheers!
Hey, I'm a high school student that has just started learning CAD, does that count as average Joe? I'd love to help beta test, I really want android to overpower iPhone 3.0 lol. My e-mail is [email protected] I use g1 with cyanogenmod 1.6...so idk if that qualifies. But anyways, Good luck!
This really sounds promising. In the last few weeks, I really had the need for a good drawing software on my mobile device. But my Tytn II lacks of power. As I soon will get the Desire, I will hopefully have a quite powerful device for all day use (my Tytn II really sux atm). And because I have the re-occurring need of a drawing app, this could be it.
I mean I don't need it for simple drawing, but for constructing things CAD style and on the go Graphics of furniture or something with measures and all that stuff.
Hey guys.. just wanted to pass you an update on status (which is so much more than I seem to be getting from Verizon on the 2.1 update).
Small rant, but its done now.
Ok - status..
DXF Export is working now, supporting layers, linetypes, colors, and elements throughout the drawing. Am having some issues with getting ellipses to export via DXF (and im not alone - faulty specs are at fault), and that combined with the other issues regarding the math behind finding ellipse edges, we decided to comment out the ellipse alltogether for now. Not that it wont be back, but having so many rules with "you can do this to anything - except an ellipse" left us with no other choice.
It's coming back, just not right now.
We have saving and opening completed (simple proprietary ascii format, but it works for what we need it to do).
Zoom is currently partially working (difficult to complete the recalculation on the elements, but its really close) touch events for zoom are coming up as well. Maybe a pinch zoom even, considering that all devices are getting the 2.0+ upgrade - but we will see.. We dont want to keep anyone excluded from being able to use the tool.
@Balrog82 - we have definately taken this tool a long way since its initial conception. We hope to be able to bring more features that are more "CAD Specific" to the application, and will if it becomes a tool that gets used. We want to release it initially as a "basic" drafting tool, and see what kind of input we get. If we see that a lot of people are using it, and would like the ability to put in dimensions the same way that cad does (within limits) we will certainly look into it.
That being said - I hope the tool is still something you would be willing to try out. I find a lot of enjoyment with working with a tool at its early conception (started using paint shop pro at version 1.42) and now its on to version 14 or something and owned by corel. I just kinda get into that sort of thing, and hope that you all will do.
Good thing is, we hope its a draw to the tool, we plan on releasing it at the market both as a free version (no saving abilities) and a full version at a low price. As the tool grows, the price may increase a bit.. Keeping of course the original buyers at a place that they can keep updating the software at no cost to them. We think that will help the advancement and development of the tool quite a bit.
Anyway - It is right around the corner for initial testing. Please to all interested - send me a PM with your contact information (just an email would be great) I am going to see if i can start a private discussion here to invite you all to as well.
@Lancealot - i got your PM.. Am very happy that you are interested in helping. Expect to hear from me again soon..
Until we can see a working model of this app, I thought I would throw out an app that has some great drawing capabilities. The paid was is called "Picso" by Tiki Move, but I used the free version to try out; it's called "Picso Lite".
It's not a CAD app, but it's different from the other Paint apps on Android in that it has tools the other ones don't. It has the usual tools a CAD user would need, such as Rectangles/Squares, Circles/Ellipses, and Lines. You can change the colors and widths of these entities.
What I like about your program is that it has snaps, and the tools are on the bottom of the screen so they are easy to get to: /talon-designs.net/android/andcad/07.jpg
A feature Picso needs is a Zoom tool so you can zoom in to an area and draw whatever you need to and then be able to zoom full screen. It also needs a text tool. Since there is no dimension tool, you could put a text for the dimension.
P.S.,
I want to try your app, but I am only posting this to show how someone else has put these tools on their app and also to have a comparison on ease-of-use. One other thought, you mentioned the files your CAD app will create will be proprietary file types. Will you be able to save-as .jpg or .png so you can email or text-message a sketch to someone? That way if your on-site you will be able to send someone back at the office whatever it is to explain your ideas, and also they would not have to have an Android phone to view it.
Idea sounds great. Good luck with it!

Android Category Winner
Talon Designs, AndCAD
This application allows users to create simple geometric shapes, combined with notes, to describe plans associated with the art, architecture, engineering and manufacturing industries. Many of the tools familiar to CAD users are incorporated into this utility, meaning that fluent CAD users will feel right at home using this tool. However, the interface for this tool is simple enough for even the most novices of users to understand. This enables certain users (Contractors, etc) to be able to take notes while on a job site and associate them with vector elements within the drawing.
