If you can find an old Nokia phone it will format them, just leave the password blank
if not then...
On yuki/xbox ROM V2, install DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab through the WP7-Update-Cab-Sender then choose to unlock the card, if you let windows phone restart it will lock it again, so play about until you get it right, pop the card out and format it on whatever you like, thats you done

Awesome thanks I'll try it

You can format it entering in the bootloader and choosing "clean SD MBR" or something like that... it works here
Sorry my english, i'm Brazilian

That doesn erase the Secure partition, which is the bit that stops the SD card from being functional in any other device other than the one it was made on

I think that works here because i believe my ROM does not lock the card, cuz here he removed all locks!
Thanks!

Yuki/Xbox rom is designed to be as close to stock as possible hence the SD card locks are in place, other roms disabled that locking, to be honest id rather it on, someone steals my phone, nothing can be viewed without password, even if they pop the SD card in a pc, they maybe able to remove lock, but as well as locking the card it also encrypts it =)

I was very surprised to find that my mac formats the card in disk utility.

or you just start StorageLock "Don't press the unlock button yet"!
Now change your sd-card, tap unlock. Programm will hang, put your own sd card back in. The "now unlocked" card, is readable for any media.
Good luck!

have you been playing with the ramdisk tweaks? If yo dont set 'autoformat' it asks every boot.
If the memory card is not showing up and even does not after a format, your card could be bad ....
its time to change your card. your hd2 has corrupted your card. but don't worry you are not the only one having this problem. there are tons of users out there who got this prob.

firstly, i have nothing but trouble with adapters that the switch slides to write protect when you enter it in the reader slot. I ended up taking them all off, so double and tripple check that.
Secondly, if you go to control panel/administrative tools/computer management (or words to that effect, depending on windows version)
look for disk management, and find your sd card there. See what it says, it could be that you can format it from there, or rebuild teh partition.
(Better still if you have a partition manager program handy, see if you can force it to rebuild the partition on teh card.)
However in all likelihood, its a duff card. It seems to be an emerging theme with the leo, cards going bad.

You said something about memory card being BAD. What does it mean. When trying to make a partition, I saw something saying "bad disk" talking about my 32 gig MC.
I cannot reformat my MC and when tried, it says "windows unsuccessfully formatted the device". Any ideas on how to reformat my sd card friends?
I stopped using windows to format my sdcard as it does a mediocre job at best. All I use now is sdformatter. It does a much better job. I even had a card my hd2 said was bad and it revived it. Give it a try. I also use mini tool partition wizard for any and all partitioning required.

Problem problem problem Android lock my micro SD class 2 16gb

How could it be possible I always used my 2gb micro SD but last night I made the decision to say bye to winmo n started using my 16gb. So I transfers the android folder to it used it n all was good then I wanted to back up all of my winmo files so i remove the SD card from my phone n place it in my card reader..n said to reformat the card..I HAVE NO ACCESS TO MY SD CARD.. I can't even format it some how it got protected...even my phone days to formatted but is never successful...ANY ADVISE THANK YOU

ive got a sd problem too. i ever used the same 16gb class2 microsd card tu run android builds and store winmo and android data. last night ive tried to switch from darkstone to matcc android build. i reformatted the sd card, put the files on it (only android folder nothing else) and started android. everything was fine but i´ve got a bsod(radio 2.12.50_2 and german stock vodafone rom). then ive tried another android build but i got the same error(doesnt ever got bsod before). later android didn start at all(every build). then ive tried chuckys rom with matcc vers. 1.5 and ive got the bsod problem again. tried 2 other builds and now andriod doesnt start and i cant even connect my hd2 to my pc(bootloader doesnt connect too) but chucky rom boots correctly. everytime ive tried another build i reformatted my sd card to fat32. hope someone can help me, sorry for bad english.
i got this problem now too. android somehow writeprotected my sd card so i can't put files on or take files off anymore...it's basicallly made my 16gb card useless. can't format or anything. tried through windows mobile, pc, and android...nothing works. anybody know how to fix it?
Same thing happened to me. My class 2 16gb card is now locked and ive found no way to unlock it.
Not that I really liked that card anyway, but it was nice to have so much storage space.
thats no problem. On your adapter for your micro sd card, there is a lock on the side of it. Make sure that it is in the up position. Basically in the unlock position, then it wont be write protected.
No, your not understanding. Its not the physical lock on the adaptor, its a logical lock on the Micro SD itself.
The Micro SD card comes up as locked no matter what I use to try and format, or delete etc.
I've googled like mad trying to find a way to fix it even installing Ubuntu to see if another OS could do it, but everything fails.
Same here I came to a conclusion. That there are some files in the SD card....what was the last buid u were using before this happened...the best solution. For this should be with an android. Phone and astro file management explore the SD card...unlucky. me none of my friends have an android device

SOLVED: Just PUT OUT your SD CARD and RESTART your PHONE!!!
I am having the same problem. Im on latest radio as well...
Edge/3G are working though
I had the problem too, it was because of the mac id. It's not my actual mac id so I assume it's a fixed one. Just add this one to your router and it should work.

SD Card Question
Won't removing the SD card corrupt the system memory settings? I remember reading somewhere that WP7 integrates the SD card memory as integrated memory on start up. So, I am assuming that if you remove the card to correct the WIFI issue won't the phone crash or at the least not recognize the storage space designated by the SD card?
Also, were you doing this while the phone was off and then powering it back on, or did you physically remove the memory card while running, and connect to WIFI and then re-inserted the SD back again? Just curious.

[Q] The new 7720 ROM - Encrypted Card, What to do?

Hi,
I'm trying to keep up with the thread on the development forumm but theres to mach going on there.
Can someone please explain what's that they are saying that the rom is locking the sd card and the tonight there will be another rom?
What all this about? whats the difference between the current rom and the new one?
Thanks
it locks the sd card meaning the sd can no longer be used as a regular sd card and will only work on a windows phone 7 device
yeah, at the moment, you have two choices
use the V1 ROM and be able to upgrade your ROM, you can install android still, you can not upgrade to 7712 / 7720 AND have access to your SD card UNLESS you lock the SD card
the second choice is use V2 ROM, this will lock your SD card from the start and enable updates to be much easier
Locking the SD card means that it can not be used at all on another device, Currently there isnt any software that can format the protected portion of the card, some hardware devices can format it, Some Nokia phones, some camera
Locking is actually very useful unless you want android on the same SD card
If you do want to use Android as well then get a second SD card and pop it in when you want to use it.
WP7 its self CAN clear a protected SD card but it will keep it protected, so you can reflash new WP7 ROMS with protected SD cards without any issues at all, but it will always be protected unless you use a Nokia type device.
You can also format a locked card using your wm6.5 on hd2;-)

No, it cannot. It says it is damaged on my topaz.
A buggered up partition table can be fixed with a propper format which is what 99% of people say "fixes" a broken card.
However, a "Protected" Card can not be formatted in this way, im have a chat with the SD association at the moment to see whats what, so far it is a software limitation on the PC that is stopping us clearing that data, in short if someone writes a program to do it, it will do it, the question is how!
can you guys see the partition on a PC partition app but not modify it? Or can you not even see the partition?

if a SD card has been locked its essentially unreadable in anything but the device that it was locked in, if you plug a locked (protected) SD card in a PC it will be detected in device manager but windows will not beable to access it, the SD association is a bit vague in their replys but apparently some OSs are able to format a protected card, MS isnt one of them unless there is undocumented flags that can be used at the command prompt, the best bet is probably Linux, I hate using Linux as a desktop but i do have it running as a VM server so i might give that a try a bit later
The funny thing is, its not complicated to do it (apparently) its just no one has really used the protected feature set of the SD standard
Also, (apparently, some SD cards use the protected area to store information other than the encryption key for the whole card, apparently this information might be used in read /write operations on the card, clearing the protected area to remove the SD card lock might have a negative impact on the cards performance.

Interesting. I did a few experiments and a whole heap of reading about this yesterday (Osx doesnt recognise the card either btw):
The card became locked during the update process from 7712 to 7720 during one of the many hard resets i did whilst installing the cabs (the sd fix cab was the last cab i installed). My mistake was not bothering to change the language from its default (English USA to English UK) so it would appear the card is also not only locked to a particular device but its language also.
One could test this by inserting the card, hard resetting and choosing USA as its language, however, it took 4 hours to get the device working to 7720 so im not doing that just yet; so i tried something else.
I put the encrypted card into my hd2, entered magldr and cleared the partition using services. I then entered usb mass storage and connected the device to my PC (win 7 x64). Whilst the card was not recognised in "my computer", if you look in camera&scanners in control panel, you will see magldr is recognised as a mass storage device but the device drivers for this fail to install properly. This is probably due to the "unknown" partition taking up the full capacity of the micro sd card and why it is not recognised by the PC hence it cannot be used for storage.
Unfortunately this also means no partition software will recognise the card, nor is it recognised in any digi camera, even after allegedly clearing the partitions via magldr.
I then had a thought would a nokia emulator work in unlocking the card? to which i havent researched any further as yet.
**EDIT** Apparently someone has decrypted and formatted a card using Ubuntu, im off to download and try it
**EDIT 2** not having much luck with ubuntu either, card not recognised........
same here, ubuntu disk manager (11.04 32-bit) shows sd card but 2.2 TB and can't format the drive or volume (i tried the same to clear mbr using magldr), ubuntu is not working
WEll, they havent been much further use, all they say is that is perfectly possible to do with software, the APIs have been there for years, its just that no one has ever really paid much attention to it, with the exception of Sat-Navs, professional Music gear etc.
Ive not had a chance to play with Linux yet but i would imagin that you need to think lower level than partition / MBR levels
From what i can gather from their cryptic responses is that when a SD card is setup to use the Secure feature, the device creates a key in the secure section, only that device can then access that section, the storage space on the card is then encrypted using that key, there is no way short of cracking the key to get access to either the secure section or the storage section. However, when you use an OS or Utility that makes use of the Secure protected area its possible to clear it, this would clear all the data obviously off the card, even disk analysers wouldnt be able to see it as it would still be encrypted.
What is concerning is that the Manufacturers have grown used to this special area and use it, apparently this area is used for IO operations, (probably some kind of cache or superfetch) this speeds things up by predicting what you are going to access next
What concerning is, if you have a class 10 device that as we all ready know uses methods to speed up sequential speeds to get that class rating, IF we manage to clear that protected area will the card be effected in terms of speed, conversly, could it improve random access speeds (WP7 essential) if its not farting around trying to predict sequential IO ops!

I'm going to try as well. If we can just get a recognition/copy to work, then we can do dual-boot again. There has to be some way to copy the entire partition.

read it again,
note the big "AND"
you can not dual boot Mango 7712/7720 and android on V1
you can not dual boot at all with V2
you cant copy encrypted partitions, it doesnt work that way, its not like making a encrypted folder, its on a much lower level than that, its either encrypted or its not, you either have Mango or you have Nodo AND android
I still cant get the Protected SD formatted, im wondering if its reliant on the card reader supporting those commands.....
Mm the secret I think is gaining access to the hidden part of the card that contains the encryption key. I'm still working on Ubuntu and have a lead to follow up on.
Your right about the droid dual boot, this isn't my intention so others shouldn't get their hopes up ;-)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286511
Check this link...have you got mango?
Yes i have mango.
The process is fairly simple, however, I doubt it will solve your freezing problems.
Once you have Mango, send a DEV_STORAGELOCK .CAB to your phone using the Cab Sender, the process also installs the .cab, so when it is completed and the phone restarts and the transfer is checked, you will have a tile with Storagelock (I know, the name is somewhat misleading). That is the program that will unlock your card when used. You have to remember though that the unlock will work only until you restart your WP7, as it locks your card again and you will have to unlock it every time you want to use it.
Thanks I Got That Step Down. I Want to unlock my whole SD card. I sent the 8_extraportion but i cant unlock it i keep getting "Fail Toggling Card".
From my experience, most freezing and glitches comes from incompatible cards. I think other users had problems of that nature and reported certain brands to fail or cause problems during or after install or update.
I installed the DEV_STORAGELOCK .cab first, hard reset from startup, rather than 'about' menu, unlock, then sent the partition cab, another hard reset. Check the 'about' in settings, it will tell you if the partitioning has been successful.
Try the whole process again. Can't say I ever had the same error message before, so not sure how to proceed.

Click to collapse
don't try to put an 8Gb partition onto an 8Gb sd card, or you will leave no room for mango to work and you will get errors.
So you need to send extrapart-remove.cab to get rid of 8gb partition
Put a 1 Gb partition on it, unlock the storage then use your pc to resize and format your sd
I sent the 1g_extrapart. How do I resize it on PC?
download easeus partition master
find your sd on the screen by plugging it in and clicking refresh (arrows), your sd should show up as disk 2 or 3 and should have two sections FAT32 and unformatted.
right click on the unformatted section and choose delete then click on "apply"(or tick) button above
right click on your 1 gb FAT32 partition and chose resize
move the slider(click and hold on the separating bar between the two partitions) to increase the size to the whole volume then click apply
right click on the volume again and choose format primary,FAT32, 32kb sectors then apply.
That should do it.
