Hello,
I currently have the Acer Iconia A501, locked to Rogers (ok it is no longer locked).
From what i can see, the current Build is "Acer_A501_4.042.01_PA_ROG". Which is Android version 3.2.
Does anyone else have this build?
I have done my fair share of flashing. I own a Samsung Galaxy S, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7"), and have custom roms on both.
As i don't have CWM on this build, i want to back up this build first.
Any suggestions on what i'd need to do to do this backup first? Or if i can find a copy of it somewhere... Highly unlikely i'll ever go back to this version (as i purchased this used and the person i bought it from isn't calling me back).
I checked the OTA Full Package thread, and this build isn't listed in there. I would be happy to even provide a copy of the package if i knew how before i install a custom rom on it.
Basically, this is what i'm looking for.
1. Help on how to back up this build.
2. Would installing a euro version of the a501 be ok? (i'm sure it is, considering both my Galaxy S and Tab both have the Euro versions on it).
Other than the above, i have a good idea on which ROM i'm going to install. Revert to 3.01, root, install cwm, then install a 3.2 ROM.
I'm certainly looking forward to this as i've only had the Galaxy Tab 7" as my tab for a year and this 10.1" is a change for me. I've never experienced HC until the last week
Thanks!
me too
I am also looking for a Canadian A501 rom From rodgers... Let me know if you come across one thanks.
I ended up flashing back to 3.01 and rooting so I no longer have it.
I'm now on Alexandra iii 1.1. Check the Dev forum for it. Works great!
Sure id love to get a copy of the rogers one again as I couldn't make a backup of it. Mainly for testing 4g speeds.
Sent from my Acer Iconia a501.

Hey guys
I'm running the P1000JXJJ1, FroYo JPJJ2 firmware on my Tab, and samfirmware states P1000JVJL1 is the latest one !
so I was advised NOT to use KIES, and ODIN was better !!
My tab is rooted with OCLF set, Just a quick question, Odin will delete all my data and also I believe that I'd have to re-ROOT the device right?
another question is since I didn't have market out of the box, the product sales code has been changed to XSG.
thanks a lot guys in advance
Cheers
Jackie
if u use oclf, undo oclf b4 update firmware, kies or odin works fine for me, i'll only use odin when i screw up with my tab
and will I have to re root the device and also will ODIN delete all my data?
Hi,
searching for something else I accidentily found this thread.
Maybe my experince might be of any interest: got the galaxy tab 3 days ago, installed KIES and instantly got a message to update the firmware to Froyo JK5. I followed the suggestion to save my data which I regret later, because it took very long (had already copied a lot of videos to the internal sd) and couldn´t stop it. To cut it short:
the update was successful and nothing deleted, just everything in place. Also synchronized Outlook contacts, though at 96% it got stuck - waited a few minutes, then broke up and all contacts had been transferred fine.
(don´t know, if firmware is different for other countries...)
Odin will not delete your data if you did not choose to repartition, no need to use pit file to repartition if you are just upgrading fw from the same region..safest is still via KIES
To correct some mis-information from above. Flashing with Odin can delete your data, it depends on what components are included in the image you flash. If you flash an official ROM with Kies you should not loose your data but there is always a risk of an issue occurring during any flash that could lead to data loss. Unless you flash a pre-rooted custom ROM you will loose root and SU during a flash. These can be re-applied easily to the SGT using the Super One-Click method.
Redardless of what flashing method you use, if you use RyanZA's OCLF you must undo the lag fix before you flash, otherwise you will certainly loose data and possibly end up with a corrupt system that won't boot (I had first hand experience of this early on in my flashing days with my SGS!). You shouldn't really need to apply a lagfix to the SGT as it doesn't seem to suffer from the same lag as the SGS.
Finally, flashing with Odin can lead to product code being changed, especially if the ROM you flash isn't intended for the normal product code of your device. There are various ways to restore your poduct code, look in the Samsung Galaxy S forums for suggestions on how to do this as the basic construction of the ROMs is very similar between the two devices from that point of view. Also, be aware that people with SGS devices have reported loosing their IMEI while flashing with Odin. If this happens you will end up with a WiFi only device unless you backed up your /efs folder before you flashed. There's lots of info in the SGS forums about this and it's worth a read if you are new to flashing. I haven't heard of anyone with a SGT loosing their IMEI yet but it's worth taking precautions.
Happy flashing folks!!
thanks a bunch guys, I'm now running the latest version !!
was just trying to install the latest gingerbread theme from the forums !! will let you all know how that went

Go to the Android Development section.
Look up Overcome and BOCA for the Galaxy Tab. Both a great however I prefer BOCA. The current release is 2.3.4 but 2.3.7 is in the works.
If you follow the instructions for BOCA you will have a GTab that feels like it was newly born again.

Yes. Follow the instructions on the magrathea site or overcome
Use overcome instructions to instal stock GB 5. It tells you the pit and modem to use for your tab.
Then install the overcome kernel and reboot. It will root the tab and format the storage.
Then you install the Boca zip over the overcome kernel.
If you just want overcomes Rom follow their instructions. They make it simple

Hello, rooting is very easy. Just follow the instructions here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
However, make sure you follow according to your model, mine is 7500 hence follow the 7500 instructions.
I cant be bothered waiting for the official update, so I've decided to root and install Overcome Series ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348533
If you're very concern with warranty void, you can still unroot and return back to original stock 3.1 ROM, as if it is brand new from the shop(scroll down abit in the first link above)
Hope this helps...
Rooting is easy. Just look in the sticky in 10.1 development section! I rooted my 10.1 3g tab using the update.zip from stock recovery. It took about 3-4 minutes..Good luck!

First off, this site and it's contributors never cease to amaze, so I'm hoping you can pull another one out of the hat for me.
I have a C Spire Samsung Galaxy S II SCH-r760.
Hearing that Galaxies from most carriers have received their ICS upgrade, I went to the upgrade tool at Samsung's website (can't post links yet).
Well, I pulled a stupid, because the tool flashed a US Cellular ROM to my phone.
Everything is still functional(for the most part), but I really would like to have my stock rom back.
Can anyone link me to the stock C Spire ROM for my phone?
I have googled and searched this site and others, and no one seems to have posted one yet.
I am familiar with Odin and can flash a ROM correctly, just can't find it.
Much thanks and keep up the good work.
was able to reroot and restore from backup
Guys,
I was able to reroot my phone and restore a backup image from my sd card.
If anybody has that image, though, I would like to archive it for later use.
Much thanks.

Just saw your post after looking for help on the C Spire S2 and wanted to know how you updated yours to JB? I have a link off the Samsung support page to update the generic sgh-760 but wanted a little more info before i did it. A) why do you not like it and want to go back to Gingerbread? B) after the update did everything on your phone work like stock? Thanks in advance.

I used odin to flash the binary from the update tool. Everything seemed to work ok except the battery life was terrible. Even with root and a battery savor app. Inbox me if you wna know anything else. Also keep in mind once you upgrade to jb you can't go back I bought a new phone just to go back
I am a complete newbie at this and I updated my A501 a long time ago. I would like to reload the factory ROM that came on my AT&T A501. Is there anywhere that the files can be downloaded? Acer tells me to jump up a rope! I just want to go back to an unrooted AT&T ROM. Is this possible or am I in too deep? Thanks for any help!
Its been a few years so i was needing a refreshing (& though simple question, i cant seem to find exact answer).

You always have to root first before you are able to install a custom rom. That said, to the best of my knowledge, there aren't any custom roms available for the SM-T337A. Unfortunately, AT&T and Verizon lock the bootloader on their devices now. This means that you can't have a custom kernel or a custom recovery. Since Cyanogenmod and similar roms based off of it require a custom kernel, you can't have any cyanogen-type roms. That said, a stock based rom (anything capable of running on the stock kernel) should work fine, but as I've said, to the best of my knowledge nobody has made any roms like that for this device yet. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

That sucks. Guess I'll have to be satisfied with just rooting it and maybe a different stock rom, if any available.
I was just searching on here & I'm not sure what instructions are the ones I need for this tab. I saw where someone says they tried towelroot & 1 other but did not work, & other similar posts, then find several posts mentioning that they have rooted it, so I'm not sure what way DOES work to root it. (I also found on another site, which I don't know if Im allowed to post the external link, "Working Tutorial How To Update/Upgrade Samsung SM-T337A To Android 5.1 Lollipop!) Needless to say Im a little unsure of what method I need to root it. ANDROID VERSION: 4.4.2 BUILD: kot49h.t337aucu1ank2
Also Is there a alternative stock based rom (with tutorial) you might recommend ?

All you can do is try towelroot. If it comes back as failed, then oh well, it doesn't mess anything up. Towelroot will only work for kernel dates before July 2014 I believe. There are NO custom ROMs, no recovery, no alternatives for this tablet. No developer interest, no carrier support, so no android version beyond 4.4.2. We have been abandoned by AT&T with no way of getting any updates ever again because they locked us out. So we are stuck with a worthless pile of crap tablet that gets more laggy by the day. No more carrier variants of any device for me ever again. International only.
rootng that works
