Dropping signal - Rollback firmware without root? - Xperia Arc General

Hi,
I have an Arc here suffering with dropping signal issues (FW 42, baseband -56).
What's the best way to downgrade (or upgrade for that matter) the software, without the need for root. It's not my phone so I don't really want to root it etc.
Thanks

Try to use flashtool. Check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012
And then flash another firmware. Download *.ftf files from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314

Or use Wotan. They provide a nice software free of charge which does the job for you here (ARC S) or here (ARC).

I reuploaded to a better site
Been using this for a little over 12 hours and despite the new enhancements and slightly faster running speed, I've had nothing but problems with:
- Touchscreen response is all over the place
- Had to uninstall Swype as touchscreen was making things up as it went
- Connectivity with wifi is patchy, connectivity with mobile data is questionable at best
- Sync issues related to connectivity
- Battery drain is significantly higher.
Is this an official Neo FW or something that's been compiled from the Arc release? If so, might be best to wait until the Neo FW is released properly. The update works beautifully on the Arc, but on the Neo (I have both handsets) I'm flashing back to rooted 2.3.2 and applying 2.3.3 OTA to await the new OTA build.
I recommend flashing via Wotanclient. Then unlock bootloader.
Thanks to Bi4ary, rooting newest Xperia firmware(4.0.A...) is very simple and safe.
First you need RootXperia.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130639 Put it on your SDcard.
Then fastboot recoveryNeo.img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183465
In recovery install RootXperia.zip
Now if you want to relock bootloader, then get this ftf, made by Blagus from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134335
Remember to thank our fine developers for such great tools!
(I hope that RootXperia.zip stays maintained by Bi4ary)

This worked for me 100% as posted in the other thread. No issues here. Just a faster phone,
No issues whatsoever with the hk-firmware. The only thing i've noticed is that the camera sound can not be disabled (not even in third party apps), but I suppose thats only because of the rules and laws in HK that does not allow silent cameraphones. It's however easily fixed when rooted by switching the sound files in the systems media folder.
Hello,

It means that person had a problem with their touchscreen. It is not related to the update, it was just an individual error.
You can update without any problems using PC Companion or Sony Ericsson Update Service (recommended).

which firmware you flashed on your arc. i pasred a link of 0.42 download and flash it. it worked 100% i have done this on 7 xperia arc sets. all sets work perfectly working awsome. Try one more time with step by step it will definately work
Error

Same for me - tried 3+ times now.
This post seems to suggest the update is no longer available with ICS so close, but in that case I'd have thought it would fail earlier - the download seems to work fine; it's the install that fails.

ya.. but i can root ...
i have firmware 42 . i rooted with zergrush,then i deleted some bloatware previously..
so i have retored the stuff that i deleted from system/app..
then i update over air for .62 i download. after that phone rebooted.. then within the second it told me that "update failed" for .62 firmware ...!!
plz help to correct me
As in my second post i told download 0.42 firmware from this link( ://uploaded.to/file/vmfu4czg ) then flash it and then root it. Then update it through wifi. Today i try it on xperia s (LT18i) and i ts working perfectly i did not face any problem.
try flashing 0.42 Generic Global and then do all the procedure
Srry for lazy in translating, i have some more detail (including picture to demonstrate) in this link
Hope this can help
If you want to update OTA from .42 to .62, don't change anything in the system files. Update to .62 OTA first, then do whatever you want to your phone.
Hi there Got the same problem. I was always using Zergrush method for root. When I got .62 firmware it wont work. (fails in console while rooting). You said that we must flash .42 firmware then root, then update via OTA, but I got relocked bootloader. Can it brick my phone?
Not with locked bootloader.
Only use ota with locked bootloader
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
Yes, but my friend got xperia play. After unlocking bootloader he locked it with THIS
method. Then he start updating via OTA and get his phone bricked.
I got locked bootloader with the same method.

A request......regarding OTA update to Android 4.2.2 FW

Hello to all Devs and fans at XDA who see my first post. For years I have watched the community and benefited from the knowledge they shared on the smartphones frontier. But today, I humbly ask for a hand from whoever might be be able to provide me with what I need. Here is situation:
1- I do hate Sony firmwares of Android 4.3 and the new 4.4 firmware because I want to stay LB and I do need to root and mount SYSTEM partition
which are difficult on such firmwares and I simply don't like deodexed flashable roms dear devs here provide. In my opinion Android 4.2.2 FW 14.1.G.2.257 seems to be the best one for me...but how to get this one rooted and stay odexed on LB? here are the steps I took :
2- I was on 4.3 and when i went to 14.1.G.534 my phone lost IMEI and GSM SIGNAL and couldn't OTA to 14.1.G.2.257(much to my surprise the phone downloaded the OTA update but the installation failed, so I flashed 14.1.G.2.257 and then went all the way back to the first firmware of z1 which is rootable: 14.1.G.534
3- I rooted this firmware with Kingo root , updated superSU Pro to the latest version enabled survival mode in its settings and installed recovery but now the OTA updater on the phone detects Android 4.3 FW 14.2.A.0.290 and I have no clue how to make it OTA to 14.1.G.2.257 NOT 14.2.A.0.290. As of now, I am stopped here and wondering if a small flashable zip with my desired OTA update could be provided to solve my problem or any other idea how to have my phone in the desired state...
Your help is highly appreciated :crying:
I'm not sure but I believe that not all firmware versions allows for OTA update from 534 to 257. You might have flashed a 534 firmware that only allows for OTA from 534 to 290. Have you tried the firmware from this thread?
If you are already on the firmware in the above thread, it may be the case that the OTA to 257 is just no longer available. You'll have to flash a de-odexed and pre-rooted 257 firmware (e.g. here).
Thank you for your reply. I am indeed on the firmware you mentioned. If you noticed I had said if Iflashed directly from 290 to 534 I would lose IMEI but my phone detected 257 for OTA update but when it restarted to install, it failed and i was back with no change. If I downgrad from 290 to 257 and then to 534 I will have IMEI and signal back but this time 290 is detected for OTA.Yeah i read the post related to my firmware but I don't need a deoexed rom and I don't know how to redoex it if using that would be my last choice.

On NUT thread you'll find firmware 534.
You can flash that one from 4.3 or even 4.4 and you'll preserve IMEI.
Without IMEI you can't update firmware through OTA so, probably, that was the problem.
Now you should be able to update firmware through OTA.
If that fails or OTA offers latest firmware you don't want to use you can try to find flashable firmware 290 but I doubt we have that...
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
OK i think I know what is going on but could I have a rooted UN-DEODEXED 14.1.G.2.257 on my z1??The method you proposed for upgrading to 257 and keeping root now want's to install 290 on my phone....I wish to install 257 NOT 290
I searched but couldn't find any rooted un-deodexed 257 firmware, and that's why I didn't point you to one in my previous post. I think most of us upgraded via OTA to 257 and kept root, hence there wasn't a need for a developer to create a rooted un-deodexed 257 firmware.

Thank you for this. I managed to get a Chinese 402 fimware downloaded, created an ftf out of it and flashed it successfully. Would be more helpful if this wasn't a Chinese build but its a start.
Edit: I chose 402 as its the latest firmware that is supported by doomlord root and recovery. The endpoint is to be back on CM11/12. Having a tough time as im not able to boot to recovery from the Chinese build. Also seems that there is a possible hardware issue as I am having intermittant connectivity issues with the tablet. It seems to come in and out of flash mode on its own in the flashtool. I am trying to flash a different firmware but it wont stay in flash mode long enough for the firmware flash to complete successfully. Pretty frustrating. I noticed this usb issue while using chargers over the last month or so too. Tablet would show that it was charging for a second then not charging intermittently. I thought it could be rom related which inspired the want to ftf back to stock but i think that there is something physically wrong with this tab now. Shame as its only six months old and was barely used.

wooo bad luck buddy, you should take it back to sony while you still got the chance (under warranty). If you have saved the DRM keys before unlocking the bootloader, you should relock it and flash a stock ftf (Canadian version). i dont know why the OP link doesnt work. but i had just checked my box account and the files are still there the .402 one
SGP511 Wifi Generic CA .402: https://app.box.com/s/o3webtra06yvet2zuva47vka3h981s4l
if the link does not work you either have to create a Box account or give me your email. i dont know why Box is like this.

[F8331] Change stock firmware for a better LTE signal

Hi everybody,
I'm new here, I have bought my first sony (used) but I notice that the LTE signal is so poor specially indoor. The seller hasn't saw me that the firmware is an UK fw also I live in italy, infact, after a little research, I noticed that there is a carrier's app called EE and the fw version installed is of EE carrier's. The phone is sim unlock. There isn't root and I haven't unlook the bootloader.
My questions are:
- Can I change the stock uk firmware putting in an Italian stock firmware?
- Can I change it without root and without unlook the bootloader?
- How?
- Is there a guide that I can follow?
- Can I change the CSC for preserve the ota upgrade? How? I'd like to change fw preserving OTA update.
I don't wanna unlock the bootloader and root the phone cause I don't want lose the DRM licenses (widevine specially). I'm not interested to rooting or make any modding.
I'd like to put a stock room without bloat apps and with a strong lte signal.
Here the Info about the phone:
F8331
Android 8.0
Phone Software Version: 1302-9157_41.3.A.2.171
Global-LTE3A
Generic-41.3.a.2.171

I think it should be possible to just Flash another Regions Firmware via Androxydes Flashtool.
No need for unlock as long as u have any offical fw (XperiFirm comes with Flashtool and downloads offical files)
But I may be wrong tho, this just came to my mind in the first moment

You can flash any region's firmware without unlocking the bootloader. You need Xperifirm to download the firmware, and Flashtool to flash it.

Since it's an official firmware, you always get updates OTA (i think XZ will no longer get updates but no need to worry). I didn't see any guide to flash, i'll probably today write a guide to flash firmwares.
