Hello.
After a long time, i want to give a try to another ROM in my phone. However, i have a few questions as the phone wasn't "made" by me.
I bought the phone and it came already with Froyo with Sense installed (Although in hardware info it says it is an HTC Desire.) but very stable
Finally with HTC Super tool i rooted the phone. Everythings seems ok with root checkers and titanium backup.
Now. The phone starts android using MAGLDR, it even had a nice splash screen that sayd android HD2 and after the dark forces splash screen. With this, the ROM is in the phone memory right? Can i load a rom from the SD card and keep Froyo in the phone in case something is wrong? Should i wipe entirely and depend on the backups if something goes wrong?
I'm interested in trying CM7 and MUIU. Should i learn about clk?
any other advice? This will be my first flashing and i really find Froyo very stable, but having this device and not trying something else seems like a waste.
Last in priority... if i would be interesting in trying also WP7 Mango, but keeping Android as my main OS, what are steps to go? need to partition my card or make important decisions before?

in order to flash mango you have to wipe android from nand.
you can run an android sd build without wiping the present nand build. you can try 3dak's miui rom in sd android section.
if you want to run your hd2 in maximum performance i recommend using hyperdroid cm7 rom in nand android section.

If your HD2 had Froyo installed, it was more than probably already rooted when you received it
Installing a ROM on your SD card is safe and won't break anything in your phone's memory as long as you follow the installation procedure of your ROM carefully. Make sure that you pick up a ROM in the HD2 Android SD Development forum
Ok. so WP7 will be a no for the moment.
will try then some sd card methods and roms.
Once i find one that i like, i should move it to nand right?
I thought the phone would be rooted since the beggining also, as it even had SU installed, but after trying to use titanium, SU itself, terminal and rootchecker everything said it wasn't. Thought it was funny. Now everything works.

If you want to install the ROM on NAND, you can't install the ROM that you used for SD, you have to find the NAND version of the ROM in the HD2 Android NAND Development
Installing on NAND is quite more difficult when you begin. It's also more dangerous and might brick your phone if you don't take care.
Follow one of the tutorials posted on the forum, you'll have to make familiar with a lot of terms and tools, and it's important that you understand all your actions.
Always make a backup prior to install a new ROM, for this you have to use the Backup/Restore tool of ClockworkMod... your new home
(You start ClockworkMod from MAGLDR - Option "AD Recovery")

Question.
Right now im playing with my htc sense rom in nand, and miui in sd.
Even if the apps of the htc are in the sd, miui cannot see them. Do i have to redownload and reinstall everything i need for miui?
Specially worried about some apps that were payed...

No just download 'titanium backup' from the Android Market, backup all apps then restore them on the SD build.

Hey guys i've been on the forums for the longest but just never posted, long time reader though. Ok so i'm new to android and love it , i have a nexus one and have had it for about 4 months now, bought it from someone on craigslist for about 450 brand new, worth every penny and is treated as my firs born. Rooted but never installed a custom rom, was nervous i would ruin something. Seeing how there are so many options in custom roms, i really want to install cyanogen now, only problem is that i updated to frg83d, so can i still install cyanogen? if so can someone give me a link or a little help? i know gb will be here soon but not sure when and i'd like to add enhance my phone a little, also if i were to install a custom rom how hard would it be to then install gb would it need to be reflashed back to the stock rom? tia.
If you updated to FRG83D and rooted...(not rooted and updated, for updating OS will unroot your phone)
1. Using ROM Manager is the easiest way for starters.
- Download ROM Manager from Market.
- Run ROM Manager, then flash Clockwork Recovery into your device.
- Once it is done, make your nandroid backup first by choosing 'Backup Current ROM'. It's a 'must', so you can restore everything when flashing custom ROM goes wrong.
- Backup your account, application & data. You'll need to restore them after installing custom ROM(when rooted, backup tools like My Backup Pro can backup application data).
- Dump everything in your SD card to HDD in case.
- Now partition your SD card. It's optional, but needed for A2SD+. SD card will be formatted during partitioning. Once it is done, copy your backups to SD card.(backup is always a must)
- Download custom ROM you want, copy it to root of SD card.
- In ROM Manager, choose 'Install ROM from SD Card'. Then Clockwork Recovery will do the things.
- Done!
2. If you downloaded and flashed other recovery like Amon Ra's, you'll need to do all the job in the recovery mode. However, it's not much harder than using Clockwork Recovery and ROM Manager.
**Currently, many custom ROMs(which are still developing) are based on FRG83(D). Once 'completely' working Gingerbread(current build: GRH55) ROM is out, such custom ROMs will be updated.
**Read other topics, especially pinned ones. Usually they cover things you want to know.

Make sure you flashed custom recovery on your device. Oh, and.... If you have any question, post that on Q&A, not general.

Anyone have any good suggestions for a rom for HTC - Mytouch 4g? I am pretty much a n00b even though I manage to pull a complete ultimate true root and s=off lol.
i have the original tmobile stock rom though, is there a just Android 2.2 or Android 2.3 Vanilla rom for HTC mytouch 4g?!
I've seen EvilZ and Ice galicier , but I am not sure which one to go about .
Any (good) suggestions would really help!

Search the dev section for nightly CM7, Its very vanilla-ish gingerbread and very stable btw, some pros?...improved battery life, open to customization, overall a better looking ui, runs silky smooth, and the kernel supports oc up to 1.5

1. Regarding how stable it is..its super stablr considering its still an alpha and i trust it enough to use it as my daily driver (i need 100% reliability and the phone has never let me down). Only known bugs are qik not working (and its a 2.3 compatibility issue rather than a rom issue) and you can use tango instead, ffc has a reverted x-axis effect xD..., mms might be blurry (which is fixed by changin the ua undr mms settings) and some may have other bugs i have not yet noticed
2. Your current 2.5 cwm will not work with gb, you will need to flash any 3.xxx version to install cm7. Cwm is designed to do backups of ur current working system and can be restored in the events of ur phone acting up (i.e bootloops or major issues...) although its also used to easily install .zip files (cm7 is a rom contained in .zip file and will need to be installes via recovery), its used also to wipe the system cache, dalvik cache and/or full wipes in the events of issues.

Thats the nightly thread, you will have a "nightly" update you can flash thru recovery
4. If u go to cm7 you will have to (must) do a full wipe. Download titanium backup and back up ur existing apps and data (dont wanna lose ur angry birds progress), once cm7 is up just download tit bcup again and you'll have ur data back.

one question at a time, bro.
1)the CM7 Nightlies are "Fairly" stable, though they do have bugs, as they are not fully complete (then again, no rom really is devoid of bugs and things to improve).
2)as for flashing CWM a second time, sometimes the recovery doesnt stick and when you boot into recovery, you will still go to the stock recovery. The second flash of CWM should fix this, and you should go to the CWM screen.
3) The purpose of CWM is to flash the various ROMs you'll find in the Development Section of this area. It also allows you to create nandroid backups, which will allow you to restore your phone to a specific state in time if something goes wrong or something (also helps to flash back to a rom without having to reinstall everything, which takes forever)
4)to flash a gingerbread (either CM7 or otherwise) you'll need to flash the CWM 3 to your phone manually, using the methods laid out in several threads in the Dev section. then you'll need to flash the rom, plus the Gapps for that rom (google apps like gmail, market, etc)
5)and yes, flashing a new rom will wipe all the data f(apps, accounts, call and text logs, etc) from the previous rom the previous (or youll need to do so before flashing). Now you see why you make nandroid backups also, using a backup application like titanium or MyBackup can make that process much simpler.

Okay, so I have Rom Manager Preimum that is 3.0.0.7 and since I flashed it currently, so CWM is 2.5.1.2 .
and I need CWM 3.x?
Regarding CWM 3.x? theres ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 and clockwork-3-20110116-MT4G.img .
Which one of the above CWM 3.x, is better to use? Also, they are in .img format, so how would I go about flashing it?

And then, I download CM-7 and transfer it to my phone via usb cable to the sd card. Then use ROM Manager to flash it?!

And yes, you are right. All roms have flaws, they all need to be worked out . But, this tmobile rom is just a bit annoying .

well, Im running a Desire HD port (gorillaSense), so my rom has that feature, but I havent used CM7 in a little while. However, if you sync your contacts to google instead of t-mobile, youll have all of them no matter what rom you use, no matter if it has t-mobile contacts or sim card contacts or anything.
and yeah, the t-mobile rom is annoying, thats why I got off it as soon as I could and never looked back. Personally I prefer the Sense ROMs, but I can see the merits of the CM and AOSP ROMs too, its personal preference.

K, so i checked the settings on the contact application and you can only export your stored contacts to the SD card, you are able to import from SIM but not to export to SIM. Like the post above stated though, as long as you are on an android phone you will have your contacts synced
If i install magldr will it erase my windows 6 off my htc hd2 leo tmobile?
Yes it wipes the place where WinMo is and replaces it with MAGLDR. If you want to keep WinMo and flash Android just flash it via SD card.

I think what Skellyy means is copy a exstacted Adroid file from a SD card build and run Android from SD card. Just wanted to clearify. But Skellyy has a very good point, I suggest you try it.
ok can i back up the t-mobile rom? and if i can, can i reinstall it later? and also if i install windows 7 or android will it keep the t-mobile settings? sorry for asking so many questions but im a noob and its all about the knowledge

You can flash the original stock ROM from the Tmo site if you don't want to keep MAGLDR on it. I'm sure there are apps for winmo to backup your apps/programs incase you want to go back. And yeah you'll keep your settings as the phone will detect them on the SIM card.

You can back up certain aspects and settings with apps like Microsoft My Phone and SPB backup. SPB backup will do more than Microsoft My Phone but it is paid app also plus with back up apps such as SPB backup you have to use the same ROM or you will have problems arise. All you have to do to reinstall the ROM is download the ROM and flash it then use the back up you used before you went Andoid or WP7. Most Android ROMs have mutiple APN settings preconfigured and does a search on the first boot and ask if the settings for your carrier is the ones house want to use. I have no idea about WP7 as I have not tried it or are very interested in it.

You shhould do it dude. Tgerpe will always be somebody to help. TMac and Sam come to mind. It's actually easier to flash Android then to brick your phone.
One of the only ways that I know of is flashing a wrong radio but as long as you have a Tmo just make sure you don't flash a .51 radio.

If you feel more comfortable going with a SD card build that is cool cause in the end it is up to you to make sure you are doing everrthing right and don't mess your HD2 up. The SD card build are 100% safe as they can bot mess your HD2 up cause nothing is flashed to the phone meaning nothing is changed in the NAND memory. But if you really want to go NAND and try Android or WP7 it is not realky complicated the only real difference between going Android and WP7 is you have to use the MAGLDR USB flasher to flash the WP7 where with Android you can use MAGLDR USB flasher or the SD flasher, you can also installments Clock Work Mod (CWM) and use it to flash Android.Here are to links to guides on flashing Android. But if you follow them through to the point that you have MAGLDR flashed you are then ready to flash WP7.
MSkip's guide (wich is a little old now but still good) also use HSPL 4 instead of HSPL 3 as he says in the guide as HSPL has been updated to support HD2 SPL 3.03.0000.

I'd take slight issue with that statement. Not that its wrong as such, the phone is indeed insanely unlikely to be damaged, but I have seen lots of posts, (and it happened to me more than once, , ,) where after running SD Droid the phone would get stuck loading winmo sense at boot, and require a hard reset. Not damaging, but a pain none the less.
Course thousands of people use SD every day, just making aware of the potential side effects.

Thanks for the tip Sam as I have not heard of that from anyone. You have also been around herr a lot longer than I as well. It is a major pain to have to bard reset your HD2 but if this is the only negative effect. Then I would say it is exceptable side effect. I have read some post about after extended use of Android from SD it has ruined a SD card requiring the purchase of a new one. I have also read a few post about concerns of the added wear and tear on the SD card reader in the HD2, but have not seen any real prof this should be a concern. Thanks again for you dvice though Sam.
At the OP some say it runs faster from NAND then from SD I have not tried a NAND Android ROM yet so I csn give no personal feed back on this. Maybe others can give you some feed back on this question. But from my use of Android on SD I can notsee where it would actually perform any faster. Now the boot up time is drasticly dropped down with the NAND Android ROMs I do know that.
i just got my htc hd2 cause someone stole my old one, on my old one, it was easy 2 put android on the sd, with my new hd2 no rom will work, it loads, but when android turns on it will lag, and apps crash and say force close, and the market wont work, i tried this and mcc's 4.5 and its the same thing happening, what should i do?
Have you tried a full wipe in clockwork and then installed? Do that as your first option and if that doesn't work then Task29, reflash MAGLDR/cLK then clockwork and then your ROM.
im noob, i dunno what clockwork is and how 2 do that? and i never used mgldr/clk on my old hd2, i just did a simple drag and drop onto my sd card, then flashed it, and it always worked fine, now when it works, theres always problems, also, do you know how i can reformat my sd card? ty for help, appriciate it!

If you don't know all that stuff... you should not be trying to root or ROM yet. Go check out T-Macgnolia's post. You shoulld really read up on it before you monkey around with your phone.
Sounds like he's running from the sd card, not NAND. Have you flashed HSPL and radio yet? Please look around the forums. There are some excellent guides to get you started

yes i launched w.m first on my old phone, and it always worked i would go to clrcad and haret and it always worked just fine, i used americanandroid, but my new phone when i put android folder on my sd card, it boots, but it lags alot, and forces programs to shut down, wifi is slow etc.

Yeah you need to install HSPL and a new radio. Again, there are several guides on how to do this. Search around a bit. One thing though, if it was me, I would just install on NAND and bypass windows altogether. The guide linked above should tell you all about it and how to do it.

I thought I'd post here since I'm having a problem with android install and I'm a noob as well (probably more noob than the person posting here). I tried installing nand android on my HD2 and followed the steps exactly. At least I'm pretty sure I did. I installed MAGDLR, then the recovery, and then android. Everything seems fine when booting except it just hangs at the HTC screen. I left it at the HTC screen over night since I heard the first boot would be long. I got my phone back to factory settings. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? The instructions seemed pretty simple.

Couple things, did you first install HSPL and radio? Those go on before anything else. Second, how did you install the rom? Through usb or through recovery? Lastly, if you flashed via recovery, how did you transfer the zip to sd card? CWM has been known to corrupt files during transfers. I would recommend using a usb card reader or through magldr's usb mount option.
Actually one last thing. Make sure you have selected the correct recovery size. A ROM requiring 150mb will work on a 400mb partiotion, but not the other way around.

It's actually MAGLDR that corrupts files, not clockwork.
It's most likely that you don't have the right partition size though. You can change the partition by going to your clockwork file on your PC, opening it, then look for a file 'flash.cfg' and right click on it and open it in a text editor, then editing the line "system ya | 150" to whatever the ROM needs. The '150' will most likely be 150, 300 and 400 etc. so just change the numbers and save it.

Hmm maybe you're right skelly, not sure. Either way it's best to use a card reader.
Fly, I'm using typhoon cm7 version 3.0.0. I found that it's the best for me

I would have always said one of the CM versions... great ROMs. Finally tried MIUI this week in preperation for putting it on my woman's G2 (always thought it looked like a girly ROM). OMG I'm hooked! I don't think I can ever go back to CM again. It's blown me away.
But you cannot go wrong with the popular CM ROMs. I tried the Sense one also for the eyecandy I love... but none of them ran smoothly for me.
Hi all, I have recently (yesterday) managed to install ANdroid on my HD2 and must say I am really pleased with it!. Just 2 things that I'm stuck with.
1, I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948 to be able to get android on and used the nand android rom as described. I then started adding loads of apps and quickly ran out of space. Can I use apps2sd with this rom and is so how do I go about it?. Do I have to reflash the rom again, or is there another way?.
If I have to reflash the rom then I would like to find a rom that is as close to stock sense but has the working flip clock. Anyone have any to recommend???.
Either I'm getting thick in my old age or it was alot easier to Root and Rom my Wildfire that I had previously.....
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

What Rom are you using? Apps2sd will be in the title of the roms that support it, you need to partition some of your SD to ext4, you can do this via cwm (clockwork mod) then the roms that support it will automatically install apps to SD this is a good Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498
In cwm go to advanced then partition, you will lose everything on your SD tho so back it up, your SD really needs to be at least a class 4 ideally 6 8 or 10 tho
Edit/ 1gb partition is plenty, any more will cause problems
