The disappointment came when I use loudspeaker on the Galaxy Note. The volume is so low and easily miss out the conversation.
I search for the loadspeaker test, found that G.Note is really bellow average.
You can find more about the test itself here.

Any software / modification can be done to boost up the volume?
Unforunately this is true...
However, there is a quick & simple solution to this problem which works.
Download 'Equalizer' from the market place, it's an app which will improve and increase sound. Once using the program you will notice an immediate difference in voice calls, games, videos, music, ring/sms and all notification tones, etc...
My ringtone volume is set to 5/7. Why? Because even at 5/7 it's LOUD thanks to the equalizer...
Everytime my phone rings I jump as it's so loud. It is LOUDER than my previous phone which had ''very good'' for speaker loudness...
Best of all you don't need to be rooted to use the app, good luck!

Don't bother with Volume+ as the difference is hardly noticable...
Running Equalizer & Power Amp is all you will ever need...
With regards to battery it doesn't even use 1% of it....
I will give you a short tutorial on how to use Equalizer as it will not work at all if not setup properly.
1 - Type in & download 'Equalizer' from market place.
2 - Install & run app
3 - On the top right hand corner press the power icon, right next to the spanner.
4 - Tick Equalizer only
5 - Press Equalizer which is inbetween Presets & Effects
6 - Leave 60Hz as it is on 0 and increase everything else to about 90%
7 - Once done simply push the back button on your Note & enjoy the LOUDER volume.

Excelent tip!!! The increase of ringtone volume is huge. Does it also affect the calling quality in any way?

Funny enough you mention it, calling quality is the only thing I've not yet tested the equalizer with. My call volume is 9/10 and it's decent so have not tried this.
A very simple way to test the app with call volume/quality is to launch the app, goto the power options and untick equalizer to disable it. Make a phone call without the use of the equalizer.
Then reopen the equalizer and tick equalizer to re-enable it. Make the phone call again to the same person/number and see if you can hear any difference...
As for myself call quality is good, just as it was before and is no way any worse.
My issue is with the speakerphone in a call. Its very quiet. I had an atrix before which was fantastic. Still can't figure out how to get the speakerphone louder

Strange, sure your not closing the program after making your changes?
Otherwise try setting up a custom preset, increase everything to 90% apart from the 60hz setting which you don't need to change.
Once you finish making your changes don't push the home screen button. Instead press the back on the screen till you get to the home screen.
This will close the app but save the settings. Give that a go.

What i have noticed is that , sound does increase everywhere except during speaker calls.
This is the only place i want higher volumes.

There's a free version in the Market, which can save presets, and has simpler controls: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.equalizerapp

Welcome guys, glad it helped.
Does this 'Equalizer' App makes the sound feel hollow ?
I mean the bass gets muffeled tht kind of issue... OR it maintains the original sound as it is and just make the actual volume go up?

With regards to bass increase/increase, these two things will effect it for the better or the worst:
1 - In the app Equalizer the very first 60Hz option will effect bass, the higher you increase it the more the bass. I recommend a 10-20% as any more will over-do it.
2 - This is the main setting which will effect the bass. In your media player, example poweramp that mcatt66 suggested or MixZing Pro which I personally use. When launching your desired media/music player, go to the equalizer that comes with the player, enable it and play about with the settings. If done properly it will greatly improve your sound.
However everyone will have a different setup of their equalizer as people have different opinions of what sounds best! It's really a user preference in which YOU have to play some music and whilst listening to the song go through the equalizer and go through each individual setting increasing and decreasing the bars until your satisfied with the sound. Simply go back into the song you were playing to save your setting. Job done!
You must use ear/headphones when doing this. Reason being the loudspeaker is not so clear on the Samsung Note. This is no big problem since when listening to music or watching movies you will obviously be using your headset and this is what's important. Sound coming through your head/earphones are what you need to look at, not the loudspeaker sound.
In my case sound coming out the loudspeaker is average, not great. However, when plugging in my earphones that's where the sound really shines!
The 31Hz in the equalizer is the main setting for bass increase/decrease & 8k & 16k is the main setting for treble increase/decrease. The ones in the middle you have to play around with to suit your own taste. As for me I've decreased them all slightly. In some equalizers you will see a 'gain' option. This increases/amplifies sound. This is a sensitive option and over-doing it will result in bad distortion.
This is how my equalizer setup looks. Once again do not over-do the settings as in wack them up right to the top or bottom since you will get poor sound.

Hey everyone,
My XDA doesn't ring anymore when someone rings me.
If I go into phone options, I can change the ring tone, and they work in there using the play button. They are very low though, even when I put the phone's volume on max.
Then I go back to the home screen, try to ring my phone and it doesn't ring. The vibrate function still works and it still makes a noise when I get a text. Just nothing when it rings.
Any ideas? Cheers.

Nope, but thanks anyway mate.
Anyone? It's doing my nut in now!
OK, obvious things to try / questions etc:
Have you tried to soft reset?
Do you have a "profile changer" installed (pocket zen phone for example)
Is the ringtone selected on (tick in the box) (dumb question i know, but...)
Are you using a default tone? or one you have added youself?
If its a custom one, edit on PC and increase the amplitude (make it louder) - try again - any better?
Have you one anything / installed anything etc which caused this problem? if so what
Is the phone & master volume at max? if not try with them both up all the way

Really good trouleshooting procedure!

1. - Yes
2. - No
3. - Yes
4. - Tried both and tried making my custom one louder
5. - No
6. - Right, this is where we made some progress. I usually have my master volume set on the level above nothing (i.e. very low) and my phone setting on the lowest one. I assumed that this was the in-call volume. But I put it up a notch and the ringing was back. Yeah! So I assume it's the whole phone functions' volume and not just the in-call volume. I can see the logic but I'm not completely sold.
Anyway, you are a legend and I thank you very much.

IIRC to adjust the in-call volume you must be in a call and then use the slider on the side of the wizard. i'm not 100% sure but this is as good as my brain can manage today

hi, bsterngillet,
im also new to this here. just got my o2 min s last week. i just started tweaking it. i experienced the same situation as yours, and seemed to have figured out the problem.
with the original rom, AND without any program installed, the volume sliders behaviors are:
Master volume slider adjust Ringer, Notifications, Tap
Phone volume silder adjust Phone
however, upon installing "certain" programs (in my case, a language translation/inmput software "Monster Chinese 5.1"), the volume sliders behaviors altered as:
Master volume slider adjust Notifications, Tap
Phone volume silder adjust Ringer (but ALSO as a subset of Master Volume --- so it's like a old school mixer, master volume has an effect on the whole scheme of things)
The phone volume can then be altered during a call.
So, my settings now is:
Master volume slider = Halfway
Phone volume slider (i.e. ringer) = First click down from Max
Phone Voice volume= adjust as needed
hope this helps .... and hope this is correct.
I had a problem with this before...
I had been using my headphones prior to this though and when I put them back in and out it worked fine
Thanks to your thread i have been able to sort out exactly the same problem regarding vibrating but no volume. It did my nut in too, funny how there is usually a simple answer just around the corner.
Cheers

I was digging around trying to find an efficient way to manage my audio & other settings during a game or another situation where I was in fullscreen. I started playing around with the profiles and found a handy way to quickly swap audio profiles without leaving the game itself.
Prerequisites:
CM7
Disclaimer:
This doesn't modify anything serious, but don't blame me if you screw your system up. Also, this may not work for every fullscreen scenario.
Let's do this thing!
Goto: Settings -> Profiles
There are already a few profiles configured, but you can delete/ignore those for the time being.
Click "New Profile"
Scroll to "Volume Overrides"
Name it accordingly "I named mine 'Media 100%'"
Set the volume for the individual situation "in my case it was media"
Make sure the checkmark is checked before you exit
That's it!!
Now, hold the power button on your device, select "profile" from the power prompt, and select your new profile. Your setting will be immediately applied and you never left your current app.
I set multiple combinations of audio setting profiles, and you can set yours however you like. I will post some screenshots of my setup later.
Alternatives:
The best alternative I have found is Wave Launcher. It seemed to lag after a while and disrupt some of the games I was playing when changing settings. It was, however, very efficient and had a cool media player widget overlay on any game.
Other uses:
This option is great for other settings as well. You can use your imagination for the potential, and post any other useful tips for Profiles here.
That's a pretty cool feature, I'm currently using Volume + Free for my volume control.

I use Volume Control. It puts a slider (that can be set to disappear after a couple seconds) on the right edge of your screen that can be accessed from any app, full screen or not (overlays on all windows).

ONLY FOR PHONES RUNNING GINGERBREAD (Android 2.3) OR HIGHER!!!
After 2 weeks of solid coding (and not much sleep) the Beta is finally ready!
Thank you to everyone on my twitter who has tested the incomplete version already!
For those of you who have no idea what this application does, let me summarise:
Volume+ allows you to manually alter the 5 EQ bands in Android and also allows you to increase the volume multiplier to a maximum of 20 (it can go higher, but I've limited it to 20 for obvious reasons). I've included several EQ pre-sets too.
In this latest version, I've added the option to save your custom EQ settings and load them again. This was the single most requested feature (and the most time consuming to code!). These options are available for the phone's main loudspeaker, the wired headset and your A2DP bluetooth headset.
Anyway, I hope you guys like it, and please post any bugs you find!
Cheers.

Volume+ V1.9.0.1
- Changed the package name, so hopefully you wont get any more irritating update messages from the Android Market (You'll have to uninstall any previous versions prior to installing this one)
- Re-added the old drop down volume options, it seems to go louder this way for some reason
- Other behind the scenes changes
Volume+ V1.9 Beta (RB4) updated 6:43 (BST). Fixed force close bug.
- Seekbars modified further to look and function better.
- Massive size reduction (151kb to 75kb).
Volume+ V1.9 Beta (RB3)
- Seekbars (sliders) altered to work better on devices with small/large screens (Still not perfect, will be worked on more).
- [BUGFIX] When you open the app, the 'EQ Presets' list would not load as disabled if the "Use Custom" checkbox was ticked. This has been fixed.
- Size reduced (will be reduced further before release).
Volume+ V1.9 Beta (RB2)
- Some slight code modifications
- Removal of A LOT of crap
- All debug messages removed (wont spam your logcat now)
- Check added so you can only open headset/bluetooth settings when headset is plugged in or bluetooth device is connected.
- UI Overhaul
* Settings completely changed
* Sliders automatically adjust to show pre-sets
* Volume/BassBoost/Echo now controlled exclusively by the sliders
* Tick the 'Custom EQ Settings' to enable the sliders
- the ability to Save/Load/Delete custom settings added
- Method of altering volume modified
- Various behind-the-scenes changes
It should be fairly self explanetory, but don't hesitate to get in contact with me on here, via e-mail ([email protected]) or on Twitter.
Thanks and Enjoy!

Nice! Installing now. Will report back. Thanks!
Works great, and the presets take the guess work out of it. Definitely sounds a lot different on my Gnex.
Edit: Sounds great through the speaker and all settings work. However, while using headphones there are no changes what so ever. I tried different settings but they all sound the same.
I did notice a difference with headphones but I also got a small hiss. Even with all of the settings turned to 0. Just having the mod enabled gave me a little hiss while playing podcasts with PocketCasts. Couldn't really notice the hiss with Google Music but I'll have to play around more.
Could just be the ROM or the kernel though. I'm gonna keep playing around to see what's up. Love the app though. I don't understand why there aren't more good EQ apps out there. DSP is hit and miss and this is the only other real other one that's any good.
Will be able to test bluetooth later on today, hopefully.
When loading it up on my GNex (Verizon) I noticed there was a message about the bass boost and EQ not working yet on ICS. With the 1.8.1 release, I noticed that if I just changed the EQ and BB settings while the music was playing, that the changes would be there but once the music was stopped, it seemed I would have to reset the settings again to get the changes. This doesn't seem to be the case now though, changing the settings doesn't seem to get them to show up at all on 1.9. If there's something I can do to help, let me know. I'm running AOKP b27 and faux kernel 13m as reference.

Just flashed the ROM you're using and the headset settings seem to be working fine for me. Are you using PowerAMP or something similar to play music? Any music player that has it's own built in EQ will override my app.

The notification panel probably can be fixed by using custom ROMs
The speaker part will not happen. It's just too small.
Shourtcuts on lockscreen, again probably a custom ROM. I have tried 3rd party apps for adding shortcuts in the lockscreen but they were horrible.
The next Xperia model that Sony should bring out should have improved camera and better screen (eg S-LCD3) instead of standard LCD. Oh and better speakers too.

No because I have to root it. Too lazy to do that. I had been a recovering flashing addict and don't want to go through that again.

What I'd like to see are things like the ability for Smart Connect to turn NFC off/on,
to make distinguishing between charging points easier since using NFC is the only way to do that.
and New UI!
Hold up...I swore I saw and used an option to block incoming calls from certain persons. In the phonebook when you click on a contact you can send their calls straight to voicemail, and in Settings/Call Settings you can go in Call barring. Well if thats what you mean by "Blocking mode for incoming calls"

I'd think twice about that. Rooting will fix allmost all your problems.
- Customize and more switch button notification panel
With root you can get a lot more, i currently have 8
- Fixing LED specifications to use and related stamina mode
Theres a fix on the forums for this. It allows the LED to work even in Stamina mode
- More shortcuts on lock screen
Also possible with root
- louder speaker
Use one of the modded audio's. I use it myself, and turn on the Loud setting when listening (internet) radio under the shower

I don't have to think twice about it. I know all about rooting. And I'd rather not do it. Just sick to death of flashing this and flashing that. I just wanna use the phone and be done with it.
ya, agree with those points.
1-less compression of image(we dont mind the big size of the pic, else why we bought sd cards 囧) and faster camera launch, even HTC release 2nd update for improving the camera .
2-music, ya, even XDA developers can come out with mod that improve the sound louder and clearer, its appear to be poor software/firmware implement by the software engineer in Sony.
The walkman apps doesn't have refresh button to refresh the media when we transfer new music into the phone. And my walkman apps play song, it appear to bit slightly lag (0.5sec of music pause) for many times in a song, and goes on, I have to use 3rd party music apps to play song smoothly.
3-screen, at least give us the WB software to adjust the color like the one in Xperia ZL and SP.
4- battery life - which sony can implement extra feature like "power saving mode" which limit the processing core to lower frequency (1 or 1.2ghz) which surely improve battery life. Like what Samsung did on Note 2( as I bought one for my sister and I found out it's really a big plus for extending battery life by lowering the processing power).
Althought rooting phone can limit the processing core power and solve all those issue we address, but apparently not all of us want to risk(or good at), root(rooting) our phone to do that.
Sony, please make improvement. >< we do love you ~
just dont make us dissapoint and regret.
Any link to make louder speaker? Offcourse rooted
integrated flac support and better bass audio quality for headphones music sounds horrible in my xz hehe also a way to completely backup apps installed on the phone or create a list that can be imported and downloaded every time you do a factory reset and a way to backup app data in the same program, a way to root phones on 4.3 with a locked bootloader would be nice too i've tried all methods none have worked so far...
Individual notification tones in texting app.
Individual LED notification color per contact in texting app.
The possibility to not only assign a custom ring tone per contact but also set a specific contact ring tone to be completely off.
Increase MMS max size.
Flip tiles toggles, CM style.
AOSP lock screen with shortcuts and flashlight.

Oh and better speakers too.

wow what. xda has a guest feature?
anyways, many of the older 2011 phones even have S-LCD so :/
The Notification Volume on my PH-1 is way too high! But when I go into my Sound settings, there is nothing there to adjust notifications. There is only Media volume, Call volume, Ring volume and Alarm volume.
My Notification is extremely loud, and attracts a lot of attention when I am in a store, etc. Now, I can set my phone on Vibrate only, but I'll never hear it from another room.
Thanks.
Not sure if there is a trick to do this using built-in controls, but there are 3rd-party apps available for this. I have been using the "Volume Control" (and it has more features, too, some are free, but others are paid or ad-supported):
