What are your settings under: Menu>Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Applications>Install location? I'm on CM7 and it's defaulted to Automoatic.
Also, is 'Use internal storage' checked under Menu>Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Applications?

Hello all,
I just replaced the stock 2GB external SD card with a 16GB and transferred the movie over to the new 16GB card.
I thought all the apps that I'm downloading would be saving to the external 2GB SD card, but surprisingly that's not the case? I thought by default it would save to the external storage card first.
How do I manage where I want my apps and future downloads to be saved? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
All I see under settings -> SD card and phone storage -> (it shows all the info, but only gives me the option to unmount the storage on both internal and external cards.
Also on the very bottom of that screen it shows: "Application storage...Available space...1.50GB"
Is this a partition within the internal storage on the phone where all the apps have been getting saved to?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Basically the Vibrant gives u 16GB or space, 2GBs of this is for Applications an such, while the 14GB partition is for media (music, movies etc).
When you install applications currently they will install onto your 2GB partition. Once Froyo (android 2.2) hits you'll be able to select if you want the apps to install onto your SDCard.
Once the modding scene picks up a bit more I'm sure A2SD will be available and also a 2.2 port prior to the official one.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply!
So basically right now we can't change the default settings of it saving to the partition space on the device itself? In my mind, "...hhmm there has to be a way around this...maybe?" LOL
I can't get the phone to mount on my PC or MAC. On the phone it shows as USB storage device connected and it also displays a window for me to mount or unmount....Nothing shows on the computer for me to be able to access it...hhmm
This is all so odd because my buddy has the old Galaxy i7500 and I'm able to plug his phone in and it mounts in seconds.
The only way for me to access the card is for me to use the SD adapter card and physically take it out of the phone every time..
In order to connect to a mac usb debugging must be checked.

If i replace the 2 gig sd card with avatar on with my 16 gig class 4 should i part it with a ext 4 or just format it all fat 32 ??? I was thinking just fat 32 the whole card since the apps default to the internal mem ..
Really? Not to be a downer guys, but why is this in the Development forum? Can we move this over to General or Q&A please. Once the Development forum starts getting flooded there's no going back.

I just reformatted it FAT32 all the way. Then I transferred both movie files of Avatar and it works perfectly.

If the issue that this thread is referring to is indeed related to a development problem, would it not be proper for it to be here?
How do you move posts?

Perfecto. Thank you!
Thanks for the quick responce iunlock im formatting now ...
Also, it's best to keep as much apps on the system memory as you can. Accessing data on the SD card is slower than from the internal memory.

No reason in creating an ext partition at this time since there is not much support currently for this kind of mod on the SGS. In the future i'm sure ppl will get this mod out there, but for the time being you should be good with Fat32.
Plus installing the apps on the internal mem is the best option for speed an such.

No it doesnt, it has 8GB internal memory on the device, but you need to buy one. I just got a new NC yesterday and im waiting for my 8GB sd card in the mail so i can start hacking it.
cool thanks
but i suppose later, we can put in the internal memory, any files/books that we want right?

In fact, the CM7 on SD uses the internal memory for ephemeral user data (dalvik cache, etc), so there's more SD available.
Just wondering if this is anywhere on the Shift? Possible etc?
Do you mean App2sd? like darktremor being able to put apps on the sd card?
I can't speak for any other ROM but if you use CM7 just download S2E.

No, I mean moving the whole data partition to the SD card... it is supposed to increase speed etc.

I was just wondering if this was possible on the Evo Shift....
Yup, s2e from the market. It doesn't speed up the phone (internal memory is faster than your sd card) although it gives you access to more psudo-native storage
You do need a rom that supports it. You can use cwm to do the formatting, but its distructive, so you'll need to backup your data

Hi, I came from CM7.2, AURORA ICS 4.04 is very usable for everyday use, but i would use internal SD instead of external (slow). In CM there was an option in General, but here I don't find it. It mounts in /mnt/SDCard1, but only FilesManager see it... TIA!
Hi Blefish,
I use Aurora 2.04. I use both on phone but i can't use it on Windows, only use external sdcard on windows

You can't! That option is because you can only have one at a time...

I hacked a pair of NC's for my kids for Christmas, running Mirage CM7 (seemed the most stable, but I could be wrong). I was planning on waiting a bit on the micro SD's and just running off of the 1GB internal memory, but I can't access the songs I put there. Every time I try to pull up the music player or MX player or gallery, it tells me "No SD card".
Well, no duh...
My question is, is there a setting that will allow me to access the internal storage until I'm able to get a couple SD's? Or should I upgrade to CM10? Also, the reboot SD for the Nook Tablet has a neat little repartitioning affect, got me another 6 or 7GB when I used it to install CM10 there---does the NC have a similar repartitioning tool?
Thanks in advance

Yes there is an option to use internal memory. I don't remember the exact menu since I have not used CM7 in a while. But go to settings, cyanogenmod settings, applications, and choose use internal memory. Or something like that. It swaps emmc and sdcard so that apps think internal media is sdcard.

Excellent! Does that mean, though, that I have to swap it back over when I do get the SD cards?
Also, does CM10 on the NC not have to worry about that?

Yes, unless you want to keep it that way. Your new card will show as emmc then.
CM10 has not implemented that yet. And it would have the same problem. Some apps would not run without an SD present.
