Baseband Version Unknown

hey guys,
i have a big problem. i just flashed the newest cm7 nightly for my i9000 and now there is no baseband version anymore. i tried to flash a lot of versions but its still "unknown" and therefore no connection is able.
i also tried to restore my old nandroid backups with a working baseband version but didn't help.
can you please help me to get my phone working?
ty in advice
Treat it as a fresh install. Flash back to froyo to restore your baseband then flash cm7 again.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
but isnt it possible to do something else?
and have you a good howto for me? ty!
Baseband unknown is probably a corrupt IMEI, If you made the efs backup before flashing CM7, then restore that, and make sure you have a compatible modem (i had this issue with MIUI yesterday)
Then after restoring the efs backup, reboot, and that should fix it.
If not then as mentioned above, do a fresh install.
Search for EZBase / EZROM to flash back to froyo. and then follow the installation procedure for CM7...
always have a current backup of the efs,. leave a copy or two on your PC, this will save you from having to do this whole fresh install again
trust me... i learned the hard way.... 3 times lol
mhm it seems to be the IMEI stuff. once i did an efs backup while installling the cm7 with a script called something like efs_backup
where can i find this backup and how to restore it?
ty man!
does someone know how to restore the IMEI. I did a backup before and i think i found the folder: /sdcard/backup/efs

Yes thats correct, copy the NV_data.bin and the NV_data.bin MD5 to /efs using root explorer or similar.
once done reboot and check when the phone boots back up.
should i delete all files in the directory /efs first before i copy those 2 files in?
another hint. i tried to backup the efs and then installing a fitting modem:
when i try to install the modem (JVK - definetly working before) i get this message in cwm: asser failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/modem.bin","radio") insallation aborted
so can help me?
ty
Ok first of all, copying the relevant items from /backup /efs to /efs will just overwrite, so no need to delete - you can if you want.
as for the modem issue, maybe it was a bad download, try re-downloading. Also, make sure THAT particular modem is compatible, there have been some issues with the latest CM / MIUI releases, there is a link somewhere to all modems for this specific release..
EDIT: here are the modems for the latest release of CM / MIUI http://codeworkx.de/download/cyanogenmod/
I have a feeling in the end you will find that just going back to froyo first is still your best option.
Search in the General thread for my name and CM7 install to find my guide. Follow it and you will be fine.

restore system.img backup without using xrecovery

I am 1.6 currently and xrecovery isnt compatible with 1.6. I have a past xrecovery backup that id like to restore that is of 2.1 version. How do i restore this? Is there a way?

No, there is no way to do this. As far as I am aware, the only way to restore anything created with xRecovery (system.img) is through xRecovery, as it checks for MD5 sums, etc. If your USB port is broken, as you stated in your other two or three threads you have created about this issue, then I am afraid you are stuck on 1.6, for the reasons myself and other people have given you in your various threads.
In the future, please only create one thread.

ok thanks anyway and sorry about that. Are you absolutely sure that theres absolutely nothing i can do. Really dont wanna be stuck on 1.6

Well they can search this forum for the fix and apply it. So far all evidence seems to suggest that you cannot do this on your own.
While restoring from an efs backup, it's important to restore the appropriate rights for the files too. A simple copy-paste doesn't work. If you have properly backed up the efs folder (not copy-paste), a correct restore action should work.
Even if everything fails, service guys should be able to regenerate the efs folder with the correct IMEI, but they won't do it for free, since your warranty is invalid by now.

You can do this on your own if you follow the steps in a few guides knocking around on the forum.
Can anyone point me the exact thing to backup so that I can restore when I get issues? I'm worried now.
I've made a copy of my EFS folder. Isn't that enough? If so, Can you point me out to the correct direction to backup and restore b ack??

[How to] Flash custom rom to u8800-51 (Impulse 4g) with 3g working

First:
- I am not responsible for any damage.
- This guide works on froyo 2.2 (I tried this in 2.3 and isnt working).
- Your phone will end being an u8800pro (internally) but fully working.
- You will be able to install custom rom (faster and better).
- Just in case, do a Full Backup using this method (to your u8800-51 phone fully working, just in case):
For Windows
For Linux
Now do an IMEI backup using the tool 5iromtoolbox. You NEED TO DO THIS, OR 3G WONT WORK.
You have a guide here: [Helpful][Tutorial][Caution] IMEI backup
Now, you have to follow all the steps of this guide:
[ROM]U8800pro ,2.2.2_HORSE.Rom , Based on stock B026 and GUIDE for returning to froyo
ALL the steps, even the "going back to froyo" steps and rooting steps, because you need to have an u8800pro stock rom with the same baseband as yours, not a u8800-51 rom..
NOW, PROCEED IN A DIFFERENT WAY IF YOU MADE THE IMEI BACKUP IN THE STOCK U8800-51 ROM AND IF YOU MAKE THE IMEI BACKUP IN A DIFFERENT ROM (E.G. U8800PRO)
------------------------------------------------------------------
IF YOU ARE FLASHING FROM U8800-51 STOCK ROM, DO THIS:
Finally, when you are ready installing, you have to restore your IMEI from u8800-51 (the one you made in one of the first steps of this post), in order to have 3g working (thanks roman1102)..
Here is the guide again:
You have a guide here: [Helpful][Tutorial][Caution] IMEI backup
------------------------------------------------------------------
IF YOU ARE FLASHING FROM U8800PRO ROM (OR ANY OTHER DIFFERENT TO U8800-51 STOCK), DO THIS:
You can not use the IMEI backup you made in one of the first steps, because its not for u8800-51, so you will have to use a backup from another person (and different IMEI). So download this backup:
Download IMEI backup for u8800-51
and restore THAT IMEI backup to your phone (after flashing u8800pro rom).
Here is the guide for IMEI restore again: [Helpful][Tutorial][Caution] IMEI backup
------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember you need root permissions to do this.. After restore is done, your 3g will be working.. If not, try *#*#4636#*#* and chose "WCDMA only" or "WCDMA preferred"
- I am using this in my u8800-51, so I assure you it works.
Good luck.
You are the man skipped. I will try this later on today an post my result.

well: something strange...
Hi, i try this method in a fresh stock impulse 4G, but i have some questions:
1: some thinghs from the att rom still here: boot animation and bloatware, follow all steps from the Horse's guide, and i assuming that make everithing in good way..( well this not is my first android experience jejeje)
3: after flash the Horse's zip, my IMEI is the same that in stock (revised the backup sticker and *#06#).. and the same, before mede the backup, but... it's neccesary make the restore? (here in colombia my provider uses H+ or hspa tecknology!) off course en about phone, show me the new "U8800pro" and Horse rom specs!
2: how i know that i have my HSPA intact, only have in the top bar the 3g symbol, no a "H+" like before in stock ROM...
This is the first rom that i flash in the Impulse.. i don´t wanna lost my H+ speed
Thx in advance, and greetings from Colombia
thanks for the guide

1: Its normal, because not all data get updated after installing custom roms.
2: I think that if you see a 3g symbol, its okay.. the problem is if you just see the "E", then, you HAVE to restore the previous IMEI (and as you say you were in stock, then you have to restore YOUR IMEI, the one you did before installing horse rom.. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE IMEI BACKUP posted on the guide, because that is in case you were without 3g before getting to this thread).
3: Your IMEI only changes if you were not in stock (because if you were not in stock, you had already lost 3g, so you have to restore IMEI from other person).
IF YOU ARE FLASHING FROM U8800PRO ROM (OR ANY OTHER DIFFERENT TO U8800-51 STOCK), DO THIS:

Hey guys! Did I do something wrong? : I just flash lithuanian rom and after Horse Absolute and all things (BT,Wi-Fi, H+ etc.) are working.
I mean that I didn't restore IMEI and didn't do many other things, just flashed 2 roms one after another.
Question:
Apparently this method does not allow for an upgrade to Gingerbread. Therefore, what ROMs are available that might improve upon the stock Froyo?
Gingerbread zip

There is a gingerbread zip that can be installed in cwm. I will be making a guide later.
Please Help!
I noticed that you were on a forum about the att impulse 4g. and if you could help me i would really appreciate it. first let me give you my problem that i am having and how it happened. i like custom roms so i rooted my att impulse 4g and installed cwm recovery to it. i tried my first rom and everything worked except for WiFi which i really need now before i went to this rom i made a backup of the original rom. so after that i tried another one and i did not like it either. i was willing to try one more rom and if i did not like it i would go back to the stock rom. so i did all the steps in installing the rom and now when i pressed reboot system now it will turn on and load the att screen then turn of and show the att screen again. so i figured to go into clockwork mod recovery and put the stock rom back on. BUT CLOCKWORK MOD RECOVERY WONT LOAD SO I'M STUCK IN A BOOT LOOP HELP! :crying: i really cant afford another phone right now please help and if you cant can you direct me to someone who can thanks will really appreciate it.
I'll help. Sorry just noticed. I'll pm you.

[Q] Help me to recover baseband, please

Hey guys, well I need your help pretty much. I flashed MIUI to my u8800-51 powered by entel, with 2.3.7 but I think I've lost my baseband because when I go to check it at settings, it says there is unknown baseband, so I would love to know what can I do now.
I have an *.IMG file of another GB I had, I did that backup long before. Can I use it? Or just replacing an amss.mbn file? Please give me some steps of what should I do.
Much appreciated.

If you have mobile network working then you should have the baseband already. If it is so then it most likely is a problem with the miui rom u flashed. It may have some files missing or improper although I can't tell you which.
