Stuck on google logo! - Nexus S General

Hello,
I need a bit of help with my nexus s. I was trying to install ICS on it the other day and something went wrong so it is now stuck at the google logo with the unlocked padlock underneath. I would just go into recovery mode but the power button is broken, now i can get into fastboot mode but for some reason i cant do anything in it for example the volume buttons dont move the selection up or down and obviously i cant select anything because the power button doesn't work. If anyone could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,
Alex

Well you cant get into recovery except from the boot loader I think
If you can somehow manage to get the power button working even once, you should be able to fix your phone by flashing a new ROM, for ICS I first installed GB 2.3.6 and then went into the stock recovery mode, held power + volume up and selected the ICS update zip file, which I had renamed to update.zip
I hope that will help you if you manage to get into recovery, maybe send it to the company, or try pressing the button somehow I dunno, sorry :S

You can also try flashing a ICS compatible kernel using fastboot, that is if the kernel is responsible for you being stuck...

I havn't had much personal experience, though you might be able to find some information searching around for flashing a rom via adb, or something of the sort.

been there before
what i did is, flash a Custom ROM like MIUI 2.3.7 then flash stock 2.3.6 and then flash ICS stock 4.0.3

I think this app will help you:
http://www.mediafire.com/?2jx8xtx2602hi23
extract it and click bat.run
if your phone is at the 'google' kernel splash screen, it should auto-boot the phone into bootloader, if I remember correctly, and if you use command line adb to boot into recovery you should be able to use the capacitive buttons to navigate & select so you can get a rom installed. back=back, home=up, menu=down, search=select

[Q] Manually Flash Recovery g2

Hey guys i used rom manager to flash clockwork recovery but i keep on getting the red triangle and then an error message after clicking power/volume up and cant load zips like bacon bits.
So i think this is a recovery image problem so how can i load it properly...
thanks
Go back into Rom manager and reflash the recovery for the G2. I had to flash it twice. If it gives you a list of other phones then I suggest press Menu and clear download cache. Turn off phone and then power back on. Go back into Rom Manager and try to flash recovery. You should see G2 only. If not make sure you have good connection. I suggest Wifi.

I am having the same issue. the device is permanently rooted, i have installed ROM Manager, Only G2 comes up when i hit flash recovery, once selected CWM is installed successfully but when i reboot into recovery all i see is red triangle with !.
Is there another way to install clockwork mod or any other recovery image?
I'm having the same problem. I've looked for a fix but havent found anything. Is there a fix or a way to manually install Clockwork Recovery???
I must sound like a broken record but never ever leave the ROM Manager app without having flashed the recovery WITHIN THREE seconds. If it takes more than 6 seconds its broken. Just keep flashinng it so you get "successfully flashed like one a couple seconds after you select the phone model.
Besides, thats the easy way. Real men do it in fastboot. I liken flashing recovery to taking a shower.... rom manager = taking a shower in recycled ****-water in boston harbor (said **** emanating upcoast from NYC). fastboot = asian massage parlor quality steam bath hot sauna little lady and happiness. Pick your "recovery" wisely.... its the only thing to save you when you need it most.
If you have adb set up -- look in your tools or platform tools folder and tell me if you ihave a Fastboot.exe in that folder. If you do... then you are in luck. Connect your phone and put it in fastboot mode -- (white screen with FASTBOOT USB text)
"fastboot devices"
(should return a H-sometrhing. If it doesnt return anything you need to fix your sdk/fb setup)
second.... you want to erase recovery fully --
"fastboot erase recovery"
itll do it in like .003 seconds
third -- download the correct recovery and extract it or place the .img file (in the same folder as your fastboot/fadb files... (may want to rename it something easy like "recovery.img" (must be xxxxxx.img)
then do
"fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxx.img"
itll flash it in maybe three seconds.
Then "fastboot reboot" or get phone into recovery and check it.... that is the best way to flash your recovery. cleanest possible way.
this is the last time i post about fastboot. folks.... READ THE DAMN WIKIS. stop thinking we are sitting around waiting for you to put up your problem. jeez... the intelligence level of this forum has dropped from super-hackoid to Idiocracy in one year.
just read the wiki. this is very elementary. very very elementary. Like kids should learn this before they learn to tell time on a two-handed clock.
Just checking, but you do have S-OFF, right ? Because you need S-OFF to flash a custom recovery, root on its own is not enough.
You also mentioned that you hit Power and Volume "UP." Correct combo to access recovery is Power and Volume Down.
No need to bump ancient threads like this.
To clear any confusion though:
Power + Vol down will get you to bootloader whn your phone is off, but if you are in stock recovery, Power + Vol UP will get to the recovery menu options.

If you turn it on while holding "dolume down" do you get the android+! screen? Some go into recovery if you touch the bottom right corner of the screen, but on some you have to hold volume up + down together. I had this problem today!
If you actually can't get to the screen with the android+! then I don't know what else you could do :-(

I really can not, no way to go to the screen with the robot android! he goes right on the logo motorola M!
can it be hardware problem?
1) Did you use the correct flasher? rsd4.9 with motorola driver installed properly.
2) If (1) not working, you could use motorola own service update from their site.

but no results!
don't worry about it, dude.
maybe you can try the way followed:
1.power off your defy;
2.remove the battery from the phone;
3.plug the usb cable into the phone without battery;
4.open RSD and chose one of the roms your listed, but 3.4.2-177-005 NORDIC prefered,
5.take the battery into your phone, now your can see the "connected" on RSD;
6.click the "start" button to flash;
7.wait the phone reboot completely, usually it'll reboot.
if not reboot, remove and on your battery, power on your phone, then press the "volume - and power" botton together, you can enter the robot screen, press volume up and down botton together, usually you can enter the recovery, then chose wipe 3 and 4, totally you can save your defy~~
Be sure to have enough battery while flashing..
Get the phone into bootloader (hold volume down when switch on) and flash an SBF like one from the list you've attached using RSD lite. Surely you have used RSD Lite before?
It seems you have the same issue I have on my Defy as per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095444
I’m also unable to get into recovery or get to the Android Robot screen using “Power + Volume Down”. Hopefully we will be able to figure it out and get this issue fixed.

Try flashing nordic, if fails arabic, if fails, 2.3.3, if fails probably corrupt nand broken hardware.
Before and after every flash always try to access recovery (volume down) and WIPE. reboot and wait crossing fingers, if it fails to boot flash next sbf, try to go recovery + wipe; reboot, cross more fingers; if fails to boot try next sbf and repeat.
The reason for this is that you can flash a lower version but it wont boot, so you have to flash a higher and higher version until you get one that works.
I tried to help someone with this problem before to no avail!
Everyone who is saying just wipe in recovery, or just flash with RSD blah blah blah, need to understand that he CAN NOT access recovery and HE HAS flashed multiple roms using RSD 4.9, read the OP. Im convinced this is physical hardware failure or similar. We all know the drill to recover our precious defy's in the event of semi-brick ie: bootloop or corrupt code. However this is more than a semi-brick. We are talking about successful flashing and still no access to recovery and infinite M logo!
I walked more than one person with this problem through every known procedure to bring these phones back. Even using sbf_flash for linux doesn't work as this is the only way I flash anymore I don't bother with RSD anymore. The thing is it DOES FLASH SUCCESSFULLY just no recovery or boot!

OMG Exactly!!!! i have same problem and nobody seems to be able to tell me what to do, they keep saying same thing about trying various SBF's and Vol down + power method. No matter what SBF file I successfully flash with, i cannot get into boot recovery mode.
I have heard before from desperate users that they were able to revive their phone by flashing a full 2.3.4 sbf. This however comes with downsides of not being able to downgrade to froyo by flashing ANY froyo sbf's. There is a way to downgrade back to froyo but its a dirty method. Even after downgrade you can't just flash a sbf, you will always need to restore nandroid and flash fixed sbf

I think you might still be able to re-install the stock ROM.
Go to this thread and scroll down to "Q. I want to send my phone back so I need to flash a stock rom and relock the bootloader". You should probably read the whole post in case I missed something.
Good luck
I don't know if this will help but from what I've read you can't get into recovery through fastboot unless you're plugged into a pc. What you can do is plug your tablet into the pc and then hold the volume up/down buttons as well as the power button. Then just select recovery and you should be able to get into it.
I'm not an expert on this but it has happened to me where I would get stuck at the google screen so I did a lot of reading about it. From what I understand, this is an issue with the bootloader. It was designed that way and this problem will continue as until google decides to fix it.
I hope this helps

[Q] Help! Can't boot ROM and can't access CWM Recovery

I recently attempted to flash the Virtuous S-Series ROM to my Nexus 7, and something went wrong. When I attempt to boot normally, I get the correct boot screen, followed by something that looks like light static interference, and then nothing. It won't respond in any way after that until I hold the power button for about 20-30 seconds to shut it off manually. If I attempt to boot into CWM Recover (Using Vol- + PWR) It freezes as soon as the CWM menu appears. I'm really not sure what else to try....it just doesn't seem to respond to anything I know how to do. I don't have a lot of experience with Android, mostly just messing around with custom ROMs every now and again. Any help is appreciated!
this toolkit will help you mate, everything you can find there, from rooting, installing CWM to re-installing the default stock image to escaping from bootloop to everything basically
Follow this to get it back to stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
It is not that hard at all and you will be glad you did.
You guys rock! I'll give it a try right away. =)
I've tried to find a way to use both solutions, but I can't get my tablet into recovery or the normal android interface, so there's no way for me to install the necessary drivers, as far as I can tell? What can I do to restore my device if I can't make it respond to anything?

Stuck in Bootloop

Guys,
I installed CM10 (official) onto my Nexus 7. The ROM was running perfectly, no problems whatsoever. I then decided to flash the Elite kernel. I made a back up via Clockwordmod before hand, just in case anything went wrong.
I then installed the kernel and now all I get is the CM10 spinning green boot screen. That's it! I've installed Wug's tool, to try try and boot into recovery, but I can't even get the drivers to install to even use the tool... which is massively annoying.
Spent an hour last night searching for a solution and trying to get this thing to boot into recovery.
I've tried the obvious by holding down the volume rockers and then holding power, I get to the screen (I can't remember it's name) where you can toggle through different selections via the volume rockers, I select Recovery but it doesn't work.
Any ideas?
Make sure your Nexus is plugged into your PC, then you'll be able to get into recovery from the bootloader. This is the well known workaround for the problem with the original bootloaders.
Also, upgrade your bootloader to 4.13 as that version fixed the problem of getting into recovery.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Thanks.
Daft question, I'm not 100% on upgrading the boot loader. Can this be done on the device itself? If so, how?
Yes. There's a flashable zip file that you can install using recovery. Search the Development section.
