Is there anyway to setup a phone for a new user without logging into the market as yourself? Im actually giving my phone away to a smartphone illiterate relative, but I dont want to ask for their gmail login info to enable downloading from the market.
It seems if I login as myself, then the user cannot be removed. Anyway around this, anyother way to install apps without using the market?

Figured it out. For those with a similar Q in the future: use Root Explorer and go to /data/system/ find accounts.db and rename it to accounts.db.bak

So then what happens? The other person just signs into the phone with their Google account and all is set up?
Wipe your phone
Why not just wipe your phone? And yea if you rename that with a .bak at the end the other user should be able to just create one. Only thing, renaming that file to .bak does is make it to where the system doesn't see it and it also keeps a copy on phone incase you want to revert back to it. If your selling the phone, dont rename it, delete that file if you ask me
I agree with sinister, just wipe it and give it to them, show them how to log in and call it good

So I'm rooted on my Evo and as far as I can tell I've flashed the stock rom that should allow me to uninstall the bloatware, however, I dont see any uninstall options for that crap like facebook.
Anything I'm doing wrong?
I followed this guide to root and flash. I've tested my root using the "Terminal Emulator" and typing "su" and it returned a "#"
Thanks XDA, I love most of you
You know you need to uninstall from your computer using adb
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
I've installed Android Debug Bridge but I was under the impression that rooting my phone would allow me to do things on my phone, such as install and uninstall what I want.
Could you explain the process more or send me to a link that does?
If you want to do it in android you either need console program or a file manager. Root explorer us the best one and easiest. Looks just like a typical explorer, tap the rw/ro button for read only or read write and delete away.
You have to have completed the second part of unlocking nand. Otherwise your only option is using a computer and adb in recovery.
They dont make this easy do they? I would have figured Android to be very open for things like this, I'm starting to feel like I have to "jailbreak" again, only this time it's to remove crap.
This seems like so much work to get rid of facebook and sprint tv.
It took me 10 minutes total including the file downloads. Its a one time thing and there is a learning curve with any new platform.
Aridon, is there a free explorer you'd recommend? I dont mind buying software, just want to make sure I'm not mistaken before I buy something that is worthless to me.
You get a trial on any purchased software in android. After its installed if you go backto market and pull it up again there will be a refund option. So no risk. I think its for 24 hours.
As for a free one I'm not sure when I first started messing around with android I bought it because people said it was the best. I don't have any regrets.
Just remember to tap the top button for rw. Long press brings up options. Menu had an option for multiple file select and other goodies. its very powerful.
Aridon, thanks for everything, just 1 more question. I bought it, and the program is slick. I went to /system/app and deleted facebook, is that all I need to do?
Cause I still see it in the menu
I may have done a bad thing, my phone just reset itself.... I need a trainer to be with me at all times.
So after that restart, the files I thought I deleted are back.
Yes just go into system/app, make sure it says rw up top which means read write access, then select the file, general an .apk and .odex and delete. Not all files have both and some roms don't have any .odex files.
I'll be up for another 30 min or so and I'll keep an eye on this thread in case you have any questions.
Ok that means the second part where you unlocked nand wasn't done correctly. Make sure you go slow, download the files again because they are different and watch for errors.
The only hiccup I had was when I copied the new recovery and other files to my sd and tried to adb push it gave me some kind of can't find file error. I had to reboot and it was fine. It send after the boot I could go back in and adb the files it must have been some kind if a refresh error on the sd while in recovery.
Edit. I'm responding on my evo and in bed so excuse errors.
Go to sleep, I'll resume this thread tomorrow if I'm still having trouble. You Sir, are a life saver. This is why XDA is THE FORUM for anything mobile.
Good night then.
I know it can be a bit of a pain to do this but I promise you it will be worth it. Things have only just started and the custom roms are already awesome. Once we get the source code things are going to be insane over here.
Got it! Everything is working well. However, now my voice mail says it can not download messages.... Rebooted and it's all good.
Facebook and Twitter Free! Also, no more Sprint crap.
Life is good, again.
Another terminal substitute is Android Commander, out is naturally a file explorer that allows transfer and deletion off whatever you want. This program runs in your pc.
As Was mentioned above, root explorer is the easiest way.

So with Android - one simply deletes the application rather than un-installing it? That doesn't cause problems with the system thinking the application still exists somewhere?

It depends on where it is installed. /system/apps do not allow you to just uninstall you have to delete it. One this is done its gone. Obviously if you delete phone.apk you are going to have issues or if you delete a process that is running you may get a force close but for the most part unless you delete an app like people or dialer you are fine. After the single force close everything works properly.
Some custom roms moved programs to /data/app which allows them to be removed the other way.
Hi!
I just got my first Android mobile... yepiiiiii
Only one thing is bugging me:
I know how to uninstall programs that I downloaded or installed from the SD, but how do I unistall games that came with the phone? Those 3 games are: Peggle, CA Gold Rush & Roller Coaster.
I'm new to Andoid, so take it easy
Please help, I'll be very thankful...

I don't know if it's like the bigger x10. But I tried with the program from the setting... It does'nt have any uninstall button.
And yes, I have access to the root with a program that I downloaded from the Android market called Astro file manager.
Help Please!
According to your message, you have removed creatouch from your phone. Can you please tell me the actual app name of creatouch for removing it by root.
Ex. roadsync.apk
I have tried Creatouch.apk and many other ways but could not remove it.
By any chance, do you know the name for CA Gold Rush?
Root access in this case = Superuser access.
The easiest way to do it is to check out this thread, download, install, run the apk on your mini, and it should take care of everything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747587
Then the easiest way to remove the apps would be to get something like Titanium Backup, and uninstalling the apps through there...
Yup you need to root to get rid of the very annoying bloatware put on by SE and your carrier. Bugged me when during the last update Tmobile put on another useless app. When will they realise that the beauty of android is that we should get to choose what we have on our phones not them. No-one uses their crappy programmes anyway!!

Good lad. You're learning!
I am having the same problem with removing an old gmail account from the previous owner of the phone. After you deleted the data file, how did you get your internet/3g working again? I'm afraid to delete it before I know what to do afterward to make sure everything works when running android. I think I have the nexus one version on my hd2. Thank you.

Just got phone from a friend and can't get his gmail account off the phone can any one help?
I already tried the factory reset
Are you sure u did a factory reset?
The normal way to do this would be to go into settings/accounts&sync => you will get a list of accounts being synced with the phone
then click on the google account u want to remove
this will open up another screen with options related to that account...At the bottom right, there will be a button to remove the account....and you are done!
this works on android 2.3.5, and should be similar on earlier builds too
A bit of assumption going on here :}
What rom is on the phone?
A factory reset and reformat of the sd card should normaly do the trick on win mo, and as said above its easy with droid roms

Just add another gmail account.. once you do that you will have the option to delete your friends account. Having multiple accounts usually gives you the opportunity to delete the one you don't want.

Yep and i tried removing the account but it says it is in use with another application and cant be deleted
OK here is the solution for this, this works I just tried it on my phone. OK you will need a file explorer with root access (root explorer is excellent) open root explorer find the DATA folder then SYSTEM folder, I believe the 3rd file is ACCOUNTS delete it then reboot. That's it. So it look like this /data/system

Hi,
My brother has been told by an associate, that he has hacked his phone and can track and hear everything he does and did it remotely.
Also said the App is undetectable.
His phone is a rooted Note 3 and his wife has a non rooted Galaxy S5.
Now, I have told him there is no way for for somebody to remotely install any app on your phone even if it is rooted, unless it is already compromised and or unless they have your Google account and password, which i am not 100% sure that would allow you to install anything either.
So my question is, if he flashes an original rom and creates a new Google account, can he feel safe that his phone can't have malicious apps installed with out his knowledge ?
I would assume a factory reset wouldn't be enough to get rid of an app installed as a system app ?
Is there any programs he could install to check for malicious apps.
I think my brother is just being overly paranoid and this guy is a ****
Help greatly appreciated.
Hopefully this is the right thread / board, if not please move to the correct thread please mods.

I would say, scan with an antivirus like avast and see what can come up, and to your question, if he flashes the stock rom, everything which has been installed as a system app will get removed, also if your phone is rooted , avast has a function which is called firewall, in that you can control the internet connectivity of all the user/system app. I use it to block internet access to systems which in my view do not need any connectivity to run. Its very easy to do also. ask him to change his goole password and also user 2 factor authentication on google.
Sounds like someone's been watching a bit too much Person of Interest...
Do such 'apps' exist? Yes. Are they publicly available? Hell no.
I dont think theres a software like that in public. Thats a lot of money to be earned "IF" ever and theres laws to break.
Just do a factory reset from recovery or a better solution is to upgrade your firmware to the newest build from samfirmware
Factory reset won't delete system apps.
The least you can do is flash stock ROM using Odin to fulfill your brother's OCD.
Thanks guys, will put my mind at rest and hopefully his.

1- Yes. And no need to create a new account, just change the password of the current account.
2- Yes, in some (rare) cases.
3- I'm not sure. You can try some antivirus apps or security apps on the Play Store. But in general, you can check yourself by finding apps that have the following permissions: READ SMS + RECORD AUDIO + FULL INTERNET ACCESS... Try to eliminate well-known safe apps, plus some experiences and some helps from the other, you can identify these malicious apps.
