[Q] I515 Galaxy Nexus - Nexus S General

Hello all!
Shortly after getting my new nexus for Christmas I've unlocked it using adb and fastboot. I'm looking for a tether solution for this phone. Also if some one could point me in the right direction as to creating a backup image before i get too crazy modding and such it would be appreciated. I'm currently using the android version 4.0.2 Any tips, suggestions, comments regarding this device would be appreciated.

This is the Nexus S form. You would have better results looking and posting in the Galaxy Nexus form.

My apologies, can an admin kindly move this post to the correct board?

Working genie.apk for nexus 7?

Would some kind soul point me in the direction of a working genie.apk file for the Nexus 7?
I tried bringing over the apk from my GNEX but it won't install. I'm not rooted and miss my news & weather.
Thanks in advance for any help.
You have too be rooted because it's had to go in system. If you want to do it check out this thread

This is the right forum, I used the tool kit in the link below and it worked a treat. Just make sure to read through the thread and search it if you have any queries. You can always ask for help if your stuck. Good luck

Right forum. I use MSkips toolkit for mine. I think its more user friendly. It offers an all-in-one unlock, root, flash custom recovery, recommend which boot loader is most compatible for rooting, etc. It also offers an option to download fresh 4.1.2 or 4.2 if you want to regress from 4.2 or you mess something up. Good stuff.

You can also find tutorials that will step you through the process manually.
Toolkits have the disadvantage that if something goes wrong, you will have no idea what it was doing or how to fix it.
Thanks for the heads up.

If you want a simple root method try the nexus 7 root toolkit. For the kernel I recommend M-Kernel, because you can oc it up to 1.9 GHz.

Nexus Root Toolkit is simple to use and guides you (very well) through everything including drivers, etc.

+1, use wug's root toolkit, just follow instruction carefully.
Fastboot, period. Learning the simple commands of fastboot can save huge amounts of trouble later. It is actually simpler and more effective than any rootkit.

Please use a more descriptive title in the future. This one sucks and will not be found for someone unlike you who actually searches before posting to the forum.
Thread closed for two reasons. Firstly we don't allow 'what's the best' threads. Try them and see. Second be clear in your title

Where's the guides?

I just got this nexus 7. Having a hard time searching on how to root it. Can someone kindly point me in the right direction so I can get rooting out of the way so I can start flashing ROMS. Hope this is not too bad. I rooted my HTC sensation last year
