Do you have the ability to restore to stock? Try that, than if your brave enough, do it again.

I may have missed this in another thread, so please feel free to redirect me if so...
Without thinking, I updated my Droid with the OTA push and my previously rooted Droid 2 is now not rooted.
I did try to run the oneclick and 1-2-3 root processes. Both end with "your device is now rooted", but of course it's really not. I do have the Superuser APK, but my rooted programs are not communicating with it. And I'm not able to uninstall the Superuser program (thought I'd try to reinstall it). No go.
I had Titanium Backup, ad am wondering if I can wipe my phone and restore it, then upgrade, and root after. I'm a newbie with limited knowledge, so wondering if I've backed myself into a corner on this one.
All feedback appreciated!
Yesterday, I did the same thing you tried and I was successful in rerooting my phone after the OTA update. When you used the 1-click process did you choose option 1 or 2. I tried 2 and it didn't work. I had to chose option 1 (reload everything) to be successful. BTW, remember to make a new recovery backup of the system.
unrooted

Same issue here - how I fixed
I had already made titanium backups of important stuff - you have to go into applications (that use root) and force stop and clear data. Once this is complete open titanium backup for instance, and you should be asked for super user and then be good to go. Same goes for rest of apps that need root
OTA update Loop?
i have my d2 rooted after the ota 2.2 update. i just received a notification to accept the most recent OTA update ... whatever it is... and assumed it was one of my apps as i didnt read it thru completely b4 tapping 'ok'. now it is stuck in a download, reboot, update, "update unsuccessfully installed", redownload, reboot...........
is there a way to cancel the update? i dont really care if i have it or not
or some way to stop this process aside from the airplane mode i had to set it to so it would stop this madness
So you can do the OTA update without having to unroot and reroot?
Great advice from all - thanks! I'm not sure exactly what fixed it, but I ran DOROOT several times, did the unplug/plug when it hung for a minute, force closed/cleared data from previously rooted items, and also put phone into 'charge only' mode when USB Debugger would not run.
Finally - success! My advice to users with this same issue - try and try again.
Thanks all!
I have Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper installed & had done a temp unroot, so I could access Amazon prime content, but now I can't get it to restore the root. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? And it does say "root su restored" after I push the "restore root" button, but even after 2 device restarts, I'm still unrooted. NEED to get on the regular market!
Could it be because it update the os to 6.2? I don't recall what it was before & it never ASKED me to update it, but idk

I doubt it, it's working fine for me and many others on 6.2.
If you used it to unroot before 6.2, then when 6.2 silently upgraded, it would have undone the rooting and killed your OTA rooting.
6.2 didn't ask anyone. if you had wifi connected, it would download without messages. and at some point it would have rebooted, like for me. Or others said once they turned it off it went ahead and did it.
super one click will reroot it in less than a minute and you should be good until next time they do this.

Thanks! I'd bet that's what happened. It's almost always connected to wifi & I've had it rooted for a couple of weeks. Thanks. Back to super one click....
Ok, so I rerooted, but all of my google services are broken still. Reinstalled the apks, but it refuses to install the googleframework.apk. It's on there, asks me about permissions & then says it won't install. I'm clearly missing a step or something.
wierd issue
When I try to reroot my KF after the 6.2 update it roots the device then attempts to reboot into root... and that is when it fails... it just sits on the kindle fire screen flashing like it is rebooting I let it sit for a few minutes and never fineness, however if I hold down the power it will shutdown and I can start it back up but only half way rooted ... and never finished installing superuser or busybody... any ideas?
Not sure about those issues. Different people reported different problems.
Seems not everyone used the same methods. for me googleframework and market worked perfectly fine afterwards, i didnt need to do anything else.
Once my KF updated to 6.2, I could not restore root through OTA Rootkeeper either. Connected it to my computer, ran SuperOneClick, root was restored and backed up my root once again. I think I needed to reset once to ensure that all of my sideloaded apks still worked.
Well I got it figured out I just did a factory reset and reapplied root and now it is working thanks guys
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
Hello all,
Admittedly, I am a noob. Ive searched the boards for similar solutions to mine, but to no avail. Here is my situation:
I rooted my kindle fire using burritoroot3 and worked beautifully. I had no problem with the root or the process. I came across an ICS launcher that I found good enough to install on my device. I installed it, and instead of testing to see if it would crash, I checked the "use this as default launcher" or something similiar box and now even after hard resetting m KF, and rebooting multiple times, every time it starts up, I get the message
"Sorry
The application ICS 4.0 Launcher (process android.process.acore) has stopped unexpecedly. Please try again
Force Close. "
m
I would like to know if this is fixable or if there is a way to revert back to the other launcher or uninstall the ICS 4.0 one and be able to use it again. I guess this is a "semi-brick" because it loads up fine, doesn't bootloop or anything.
I want to thank you guys in advance even if you are unable to help me!
Use root explorer move the apk from data/app to system/app then reboot
How would I do that? I cant access anything on my device. As soon as it starts up, it force closes on me right after i slide to unlock...
if you have twrp installed you can boot into twrp and have adb commands available
then you can use adb to copy the file ...
On an old Sprint Hero with stock 2.1 Sense ROM, I recently rooted, wiped and installed CM 7.2. At first, Superuser was working and I was able to restore things like old SMS. However, after a day, Superuser is no longer able to grant root access to things like Titanium Backup or even itself. I tend to get a force close for Superuser when trying to elevate. I've tried downgrading the Superuser APK to the version that came with CM 7.2 (I had upgraded it). I've also tried booting into recovery to replace the binary su. Neither option works.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a way around it?
Try installing busybox from the play store also try updating the app from within the app if you haven't already

The problem was solved by downgrading both the Superuser APK and the binary file. I have root access again. For some reason Superuser 3.1 and the 3.1.1 binary weren't behaving.
Glad you got the problem solved.

i have the same problem
Hello, i have a motorola defy and i am running cyanogenmod 7.2 based on android 2.3.7
I have had my phone rooted for a long time now and never experienced any troubles but a while ago I've updated the superuser app via play store and apps just lost root permissions, for instance, root explorer displayed the message like it was the first time i opened it and thet it closed itself, i rooted the phone again using the break the cage (or something like that) exploit and it started working again with superuser v 2. 3.6 i updated the app again via play store and the problem came back, when i type su in terminal i get "permission denied". I downgraded superuser again and have root permissions back, but i don't wanna be stuck in this version, anyone knows how to fix it?
EDIT: I got it fixed by going to androidsu.com and downloading the latest su update zip and then flashing it in recovery, i finally updated superuser from market and voila, everything is working like a charm, if someone experiences the same problem as me do not hesitate to contact me, I'll be happy to help
