Am I in the correct forum? - Nexus S General

My girl has the Nexus S on AT&T. Is this the correct forum to get info on how to root, get a recovery, make backups, download/install roms etc etc. If not could someone point me in the right direction?
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk

As far as I know, this is the only Nexus S forum on XDA, so I guess you're right there where you want to be.

Yes, just be careful and don't flash any radio not designed for the i9020a (sticky in development forum, not 4g development) and if you flash any ics ROM, make sure it does NOT include the KL1 bootloader...also, always back up your efs folder with the auto backup tool found in these forums...sorry for no links, I'm on the xda mobile app

Thanx for the replies. I'm always on the droid forums since I've always had Moto phones. I put ICS on my D3 and my girl saw it and wants it on her phone. I did notice that there are different forums for galaxies with different radios so I just wanted to be sure I was reading in the right place. T

I just have to recommend Peter Alfonso to you. Smoothest experience I've had on a phone up to date.

I'm using asop+ 1.2 with glados 2.4...smoothest I have tried. Plus notification bar widgets and reboot power menu...absolutely perfect without forcing gpu rendering...HIGHLY reccomended

Rom similar to GTG Infused?

I have had a Samsung Infuse since June of this year and love the phone. I especially love it with a custom rom dev by GTG456x.
if anyone is familiar with his work, is there a custom rom out there for the note that is similar?
I just ordered my phone today and it will be here Wednesday.
Would love to have a custom rom ready to go
thank you
Best u try to cook one yourself if you're after a specific rom, if you had a look through the dev section you would have noticed probably 1 custom ROM. So id say don't get your hopes up...

Question

I just got a droidX and would like to know which ROM is the best
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
There is really no rom that is better than another, it's all your personal preference.
I prefer MIUI for the Customization options. You can choose from CyanogenMod 7, CyanogenMod 9, MIUI, Liberty, Vortex.
There are tons of options. I would recommend atleast trying MIUI and Vortex, as they're my two favorites.

Where can I get these roms? Xda? Or rootzwiki?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
How about sticking with the good old stock ROM?
Advantages:
Largest user base, and by a very large margin.
No work needed to install it.
Automatic OTA updates by Verizon, even while you sleep.
Full technical support crew at Verizon store or via website; no need to hide your phone from them or play games like SBF before bringing your phone to them.
Most app developers test their apps against this ROM.
If something is really wrong with this ROM, very many people will complain.
Camera, video, HDMI output, Netflix, etc. all work fine.
There definitely are much worse ROMs out there that can cause excessive battery drain, cripple hardware features, cause certain apps to fail, etc.

Don't use Liquid Smooth
CM7 is my personal preference. However, I would advise that you stay away from Liquid Smooth if you are using ClockWork Recovery Mod. I installed Liquid Smooth and attempted to get into recovery, but got into an infinite Motorola Logo. I had to SBF to get out of it.
Go miui 2012.2.1 to try for a first rom and if you like it you will probably never change roms

If you are feeling ICS go for Gummy over on rootzwiki.

It is beta so couple things but it is definitely daily driver material. IIRC the only remaining issues are BT audio in calls, some hiccups in h/w acceleration, flash, and camcorder/panorama modes of the camera. The dev support is strong for this rom so it's only a matter of time b4 it's 100%. It's also your best bet to have ASOP ICS on your phone.

Looking for a good ROM

Hey guys, how are you?
I bought my SGS3 a few month ago. Since than I've been constantly looking for the best ROM.
I want a ROM with very good battery life, and I also want it to run smoothly.
Version 4.1.2 or above.
Also, if a kernel is necessary please tell me which kernel to use.
Thank you very much,
Orel/Xeiss.

What phone did you had before? I've currently a iPhone 4S and I'm looking to get a galaxy s3 because I'm sick of apple -.- was it easy getting used to? I also plan to install a custom rom as my old HTC was rooted
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Unfortunately best ROM threads are banned on XDA and this will be locked shortly , the reason being a certain ROM might be good for you may not be good for someone else.
All as you will be told is to go and try many different one and see which Is best for you.
Good luck.

I've had a Mini Galaxy before (Not the one that was just released)
I personally prefer Android than iOS. It wasn't really hard to get used to, In 1-3 days you'll become a master
If someone would suggest me to get an iPhone 5 instead of my SGS3, he won't live anymore
Ho watch some YouTube videos and decide. Good luck!
BTW thabka for telling me Motogp1, I'll do it. Moderators, if you can please lock this thread without banning me if would be great, I'm new here and I really don't want to get a ban right off the bed Thanks.
Just another last question, what's the difference between the forums Android Development, and Original Android Development?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I would suggest starting with "Android Development" section for ROMs. Try them and find which suits you best.

You can try Ultima ROM. It looks and feels good.
You may try siyah, perseus, boeffla, galaxsih kernel and suit yourself.
Also look for wanam's deodexed stock roms.
Took me about a week to get used to from iPhone was rooted trying custom roms very easy but figured I didn't need all that so now just on stock 4.1.2 and loving it battery life is great.

[Q] Best rom

okay I have the Nexus 7 and I am looking for the best rom the most stable smoothest with tablet mode if available I have tried smoothrom ,paranadroid in on droid but I'm not I'm satisfied so if anybody could recommend a new rom for me and that 1 that's table and frequently updated.sorry voice to text errors

my advice:
take time to read the forum rules, before someone fight you away!
I don't know how much you've used xda but people get really pissed about these posts. My advice is read the rules and watch what you post. But to answer your question (and what the mod will probably say) you have to try different roms because everyone has their own favorites and their opinion on best.

Did not mean anything just asking am new to root and wondering how to choose my own kernel using any ROM without limitations if that is possible some don't work together or am i making a mistake ..sorry again for misleading post.

Asking what the best rom is is like asking what's my favorite food to a random stranger. I would say you go to the Android development or Original development sections because all of the roms are there. Also, it depends on preference really, some roms offer customizability, while others are offering smoothness. Still, it is up to you.
I really like mlaws dirty ROMs they are stable fast and have all the current mods kernels and gapps all in one package.
Read around and see what ROMs have features you find useful try it if you don't like it flash another, but I would at least test it for a day or so .

The best way to find a rom, is to read the Rom threads, and find one that works for you.
Everybody has different opinions, and different roms work better on different devices.
Also, Best Rom threads are Taboo at XDA

What ROM and Kernel are you using? Gamers and daily task users! Tegra 3 Nexus's!!

Just got my Nexus 7, I'm familiar with all the kernels and Roms available. I've downloaded all from the original development thread as well as the newer android thread. For kernels I've used Motley, Franco and the kernel that comes from faux. I'm trying to find a balance between power efficient and no lagging at all. Roms I've used paranoid android, cm10, prime which is better and j18. I'm looking for the best gaming combo, while saving battery. Any suggestions?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I use my 7 primarily for games and for that reason I stick with stock kernel. Some EA games won't download data with custom kernels and I've found stock to be just as good on battery as any custom kernel and not far behind in performance. Your results may vary from anyone else's, so no one can really tell you what'll be best for you.

Use android 4.1.2. It is way smoother and less bloated than android 4.2.2

May want to grab a cup of coffee to wake yourself up since my reply was in no way, shape, or form directed at you. It was directed at the OP, as this thread is just another violation of the forum rules that's going to get locked as soon as the mods get around to it.

Another thread closed.
The 'best' kernel/ROM is something you have to decide for yourself, there really is no right and wrong answer just which ever you feel works best for you.
This is why we strongly discourage this kind of thread.
We also do not like users that post multiple threads on the same topic, it clogs up the forums with pointless content.
Thank you
