Laptop dock issued - Atrix 4G General

I just got the laptop dock yesterday. I figured my phones battery being low was keeping the laptop from working. It charged over night but I'm getting the same results. I get nothing on the laptop screen and nothing on the phone indicates it sees the laptop. The charging light on the laptop comes on and blinks when I plug in the AC adapter. I know the USB port on the phone is working since it works on my laptop. I tested the HDMI on my TV and works too.

Tell us a little more about your phone if you dont mind. What ROM are you using? If you are stock it should work out of the box however stock is the operative word here.
If you are using a custom ROM that may be part of the issue, depending on the ROM it may have had the webtop partition and software removed. If you provide a little more information we may be able to point you in the right direction

We both have stock gingerbread. We are not rooted either.

Make sure the lapdock is charged. There is a little battery button on the front that when you press, up to 5 LEDs light up, where 5 LEDs on indicates a full charge. The lapdock has its own battery and charges the phone when docked. Mine came about 75% charged. It's possible you have a defective lapdock/battery.

It shows the dock to be at full charge.

Interesting. The way you say both the USB and HDMI work with your laptop and TV leads me to believe the problem is with the lapdock, because at the very least you should see on the screen of the lapdock what you are seeing when you plug it into the TV via hdmi.
I just got a lapdock today as well, not extremely happy with the build design, but it seems to be a nifty little tool to have. Kindof like netbook sized, and works decent with my phone.
Do you only have one phone to try it with?

We only have the one Atrix.

Is this a refurb or new? The reason I ask is that return warranty will be different. Also, if you have a new one and return it, I am about 99% sure you will get a refurb. If it is defective, you need to swap it out while you still can. 30-day return is the norm.

thanks for the info, yep its in there and clicked together, still not charging properly, i think its a dead battery issue
Have you tried using a different charger or tried charging through your PC to eliminate potential problems with the plug and cable? Just a thought.

Try to jiggle the cable in certain directions such as up down left right and see if it starts to charge. If it doesn't, return the sucker.

I have found the N7 is picky with cables' the default one that comes with it works fine but doesn't seem to want to charge through my car charger.
My epic4g cable doesn't work and neither do any of my other USB cables.
Same with the charger, it has to have a dedicated live connection and no USB splitters with multiple ports.
I need like a good 4-5' USB cable to use tablet comfortably while charging.

I'm using a white 5ft cable I bought f/Amazon for my kindle fire.

Works great on the Nexus 7 as well.

I am now having similar problem on 16gig. It will not charge from the power adapter at all, but will charge from a PC using same cable.
Same behavior on my alternate cable that I use for phone.

My car charger doesn't work either but my computer/tv/printer/tivo/wall/everything else works just fine... it must be a voltage issue with the car charger.
I remember reading that the charging issue some of you guys r having is a confirmed hardware problem, due to poor quality control. Asus was in such a rush to get the first few batches out that certain faults made it into a select number of batches. Other people who have had this hardware problem either could only use the Asus adapter, or that might not even work. You should try to get it replaced by your seller. I'll post the source in the morning if everyone's too lazy to Google.
Cheers
possible fix
I've read on other forums that it is the usb port. I my experience it is a intermittent connectivity or the wall wort isn't putting out enough amps. I bought an iGo Green for the iPad, put the tablet in Airplane mode and it will work fine while using it. Last night I shut it all the way down, let it charge overnight and woke up with a full battery.
Seems like only high output chargers work. All my 2.1A chargers work with Nexus 7, but lower output ones do not charge even when Nexus 7 says it's charging.

My 8GB arrived Monday , 1/2 charged pluged in to the 2A charger it says its charging but the battery just drops. Turned off and left overnight and its still no more than 20% charged.
I need to find an app that shows charging
check output of charger, check cables, check charge on phone vs tab then send back to Google for a replacement grrrr
I have the same problem, how do I fix? I have the 16 gb version.
The N7 seems to be having a lot of problems with charging. A couple times when my battery has been completely dead, I have had a tough time getting it to begin the charging process. One time I watched it begin to charge, then boot up, stay on for about 20 seconds, turn off, and then not charge. I have no idea what's going on. I always eventually get it to work, but something doesn't seem right.
Remedy
Google Play telephone support had be factory reset my Nexus 7 8GB. After the reset, the battery began charging. A major nuisance having to redownload everything, but it does work. Good luck

Somebody tell me Wtf just happened

So my n7 ran out of power I turned it on and my wallpaper had been reset then voltage control started up and the whole tablet went crazy and the screen went solid grey?!?!
Edit: seems to be voltage control when it starts on boot. Anybody else have this problem?

I've just had a funny do with mine.. playing games while plugged in to charge, seems I was using more power than it was drawing tho and the battery went - but when it did, the screen went a scrolling grey (bit like the old loading screens on a ZX Spectrum!) and making a crackly static noise. Plugged the plug to kill it, and I'll give it time to charge properly before turning it back on again
Same here I was using my nexus 7 while it was plugged on my PC and looks like my battery was discharging instead of charging looks like the tablet itself eat more battery then a charge would give x)

For a proper charge it needs 2 amps. Your computer only gives half an amp.
Of course it will discharge if you only supply it with a quarter of the power.
Seems to be that when overclocked it needs battery to work properly!

the exact same thing happened with mine. I was using motorola charger while playing games, and encountered the grey screen with the static noise. I panicked for a sec there!! After all I've only been using it for a day.
Charged it using my HTC charger and turned it back on. I checked the battery monitor widget and found out that my motorola charger delivered very little charge to the device. Googled about it and read somewhere that N7 is quite picky in terms of charger.
They're very picky about chargers. One charger that works really well and is available off the shelf for $25 is the Asus transformer prime charger available as places like office depot, and other retailers, probably staples and best buy.
The power spec of 2 amps required is correct, but even with 2 amp and higher output specs on the charger, many USB chargers with equal or higher specs still will only very slowly trickle charge because the N7 is so finicky about power sources.

First time it happened to me I thought I bricked the thing. I wasnt even using it and when I came back to take it off the charger it the tablet was flipping out (im guessing i had some weird battery drain and a charger problem at the same time).
Shouldn't the tablet shut down before it gets that low on battery? It would've saved me the almost heart attack I had when I saw this happening.

i've tried all the power + volume combos...how did you get to bootloader?
If people just let their phones charge undisturbed overnight and tried the next day to boot, that number would be -80%..
I bricked my N4 by accidentally flashing a wrong bootloader - a simple error that proved fatal!

That would brick basically any phone. You don't play around with flashing the bootloader unless you're sure.
Got the red light once while doing benchmarks.. But i was able to get into bootloader mode reflash system img.And bam i was good to go..
Dang man, this same problem is happening to the LG Optimus G. There is a thread on xda for that phone and the op says to take the back cover off, disconnect the battery then reconnect it and that fixes it. Maybe worth a shot on the nexus.?? That is if you don't want to reflash the phone.

When I plug on charger or USB and keep holding power, red led blinks many times, faster and faster.

Holy crap. It's literally IN THIS THREAD.
Leave it on your charger for several hours and see if it boots. If not, it's probably RMA time.
It's plugged for about 10 hours and nothing.
I live in Brazil, no sells here yet and it was bought on USA.

I was just mentioning other options just in case someone couldn't get into the bootloader. What if you send the phone to lg because you couldn't get into the bootloader to reflash and they can by disconnecting the battery and find out that you are unlocked and rooted when the phone boots back up, which would also void your warranty. Although I would not take the back cover off if the phone was stock, might as well send the phone back if you can't get it to boot.

You seem to know very little about how chargers, batteries and charging circuitry works. To put your mind at ease, a USB 2.0 port is rated at 5V DC, 500mA. That will charge a Nexus 4, albeit slowly. Your 0.7A charger isn't going to fry anything, as there are multiple safeties built in, unless something is SEVERELY wrong with it, meaning faulty construction.

So you are telling me that, unless there is any issue with the charger (faulty construction) there is no reason to worry about that it will lead to this "Red light of death" or any other issue (lowering battery lifetime for example)?
This is totally off topic but, Do you (personally) think it's true what people say that charging a cellphone with a lower output charger increases its battery service?
Quick question:
Does this red light issue appear when battery is drain to 0% (among other factors)

There is no reason to worry unless the charger or your phone is faulty, in other words, hardware failure on either side. Unfortunately there would be no easy to foresee that.
The charging circuitry will only use what it needs to do it's job. As long as the voltage is within range and the current is not too LOW, you're OK. The N4 is rated at 900 mA to perform a standard charge. It will accept as low as approx. 500 mA to charge in USB mode. That idea is rubbish.

Nexus 7 charging seriously slowly

My nexus 7 has had charging problems before but they seemed to fade away and I was using it perfectly fine until recently it seemed to refuse any charge from the AC adapter. So I connected it to my PC and it went up so slowly over 10-15 mins to go up 1% which is far too slow. I'm still using the original adapter but a different cable and I've tried other adapters as well and they would charge my device incredibly slowly as well for 30 mins before refusing any charge. I've tried everything XDA and other sites have recommended but the problem is not quite the same as mine. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or should I buy a dock if its a faulty OEM? Any help is much appreciated.

Had a few problems with charging mine. I found problems can occur in pretty much any aspect, so test each one by changing it if you can!
Kernel, ROM, charging adapter and USB cable.
If none of these work, its probably the charging port/connection in your device. Have a look at it closely to make sure the connection is as secure as it should be.
Failing all of these, pop the back off the device and take another look at the connection. My port somehow seems a bit larger than my cable so I force it a bit tighter every week or so - possibly bad in the long run but definitely works for now

Asus VivoTab Smart, clean wipe

My dad picked himself up a used Asus VivoTab Smart, I have a tablet myself but its android.
To my understanding these VivoTabs run Windows 8.1? So is this like a flown blown windows just as in on the desktop?
I had a chance to see his tablet the other night and it seems like the guy didnt restore/wipe it prior to selling now there is some junk on there and I can't figure out - how does one wipe these things? I couldnt locate something like my Android has to set it to factory defaults but at the same time I am quite a noob when it comes to Windows 8 interface.

Thanks, I did this. But now I'm trying to get the updates for the device and its simply not moving or just sticking checking for updates.
I selected only 1 update thats like 800kb in file size and it just never finishes or does anything just says "downloading update"
Follow the instructions here to download Win 8.1 Update 1. You'll be using the 32bit downloads, there are six of them and need to be installed in the order indicated in the arcticle.

Another question, the charger that came with it as it's a used unit is a samsung one and won't actually charge the thing but actually just hold a charge. Is this tablet picky and needs the OEM charger to be charged with cause I see them online for $50..
I think any 5v 2A charger will work. Had no issues with the stock charger or my LG charger that came with my Nexus 5. You may just have a defective charger. Amazon should have a suitable one for much less than $50.
