I recently upgraded Motorola Milestone 2 with Android 2.3.4 via motorola system upgrade
Before that I had froyo android that was installed with the phone when purchased
Is it possible to get back to froyo?
with 2.3.4 too often I get this error The application Home (com.motorola.blur.home process) has stopped unexpectedly.
and gives me the Force Quit button. I tried to reset the phone but did not help.
Before the upgrade I had this version
system version 62.4.24.a953.retail.en.it
firmware 2.2.2
mils2_U6_2.4.24
Now the phone
system version 64.1.22.A935.Retail.en.IT
Android version 2.3.4
Baseband version EPU93_U_00.60.00
Kernel version 2.6.32.9-g7d2667a
Build number MILS2_U6_4.1-22
If there is a possibility to come back to froyo,
I do not know which Firmware Version should I put the phone and how to do.
Or maybe it is possible that with an identical model milestone2 purchased in the same shop at the same time which is still froyo,
backup and then do the backup I put in my phone?
(friend and I bought the same phone, it is not upgraded.)

You can't go back to Froyo now. Not through any backup etc.
I think you should try a data wipe. You will lose all your data after the wipe.
Power down your phone.
Power up your phone while holding the 'X' button.
You should reach a screen with '!' sign.
At this point, press vol up + Vol down simultaneously.
A recovery menu will pop up.
There will be an option to wipe data.
Scroll down using vol down.
Select 'wipe data' using camera button.
Try rebooting after that. It should boot up fine and should not give problems and errors.
I already tried it, but the problem remains
I add, the phone is in operation because of that, just annoying...i would love to be returned to the froyo or somehow solved the problem
Actually your error only looks like a launcher error. Just install some different launcher from the market like ADW or LauncherPro or Go Launcher and this will suppress the blur launcher and you should be okay.
Or you can try custom ROMs for GB kernel. There is a CM7 for GB in Dev section. You need to be rooted for that.
Sent from my MotoA953 using XDA App
Adw launcher installed, I'm going to test to see how it works
After the test:
Same thing with adw launcher. Some of the widgets in the opening, causing an error ..
The application home(process com.motorola.home) has stopped unexpectedely.Please try again....
That's weird. May be you can paste a log cat. You can get an idea as to what is going wrong. Or some one who understands that can guide you.
can't you just try CM7 from dev section.
Edit: May be it's the whole blur set up that's giving problems. You can do a data-wipe and try re-flashing the sbf using RSDLite.
Sent from my MotoA953 using XDA App
I thought to avoid Cm7 ... but if this is a solution ...
I wonder if, after a possible return to the original fw for my phone?
Here are some log
I think you should try to reflash the original 2.3.4 sbf with rsdlite and after that wipe everything from the recovery (data, cache, dalvik, batterystat...).
If it still doesn't work, try to flash another country's sbf (I'd go with one that has the same baseband settings as yours) and wipe everything too.
I know my solution may sound like killing an ant with an atomic bomb, but if a process like home crashes, it's a software problem. And there's no better way to solve a software problem than nuking the whole software on your phone and reinstall it from scratch
I'll try something like,
only to study exactly how it works .. I read the forum and ask for information
Hi,
Could it be a widget that cause force close on your launchers ?
Or a resident app, like antivirus, overclocking...
Seems strange, because I'm on official 2.3.4 without issues...
I use a standard widget, just as it was when the phone was bought nothing more is added.
Do not find a forum on how to reflesh with factory firmwer 2.3.4.
I think this is my phone MILS2_U6_4.1-22_SIGNED_USAMILESTONE2B1B8RTIT014.0R_USXMILE2GBRTIT_P011_A006_HWp2a_Service1FF.sbf.gz for Italy Retail MILS2_U6_4.1-22
just yet to find out how to do ..

I bought the same phone on december in italy and I have the same problems and more: my phone reboot randomly without any reasons and sometime other app crash with the same error message.
I update the phone on 2.3.4 without change....
I did factory reset in the menù option without change....
press power button + x button on boot freeze the phone on android image screen.
I used phone without widget for some day but continue to crash and reboot.
I hope to find a solution with your help!
p.s. sorry for my bad english ;-)
I forgot to write it and for me the same thing with the power + x .. only freeze
The only way to reset my phone
from setings / privacy / factory data reset
If you see the exclamation sign screen after Power + X button, it is not freeze. On that screen you have to press both the volume keys together i.e. 'vol up + vol down'. (If that does not work try '@' key from keyboard).
Now you should have a menu with options to wipe data etc.
Finally I came to it, while pressing
vol up + vol down
thank you
When I contacted Motorola for help about my problem they sent me this guide:
1- Insert battery and power on phone while pressing "X" key on qwerty keypad - release "X" key after you see MOT batwings.
2- You should now see an ! in a triangle with Android guy. Press the "@" key on qwerty keypad to enter factory menu.
3- Use Vol Up / Vol down to navigate to "wipe data/factory reset" and then use Camera side key to select "wipe data/factory reset"
4- Use Vol Up / Vol down to navigate to "Yes - delete all user data" and then use Camera key to select "Yes - delete all user data"
5- Wait for operation to complete (maybe 1 minute or so) and then press camera key to select "reboot system now"
According to this instruction is not done nothing
This is how I did
1- Insert battery and power on phone while pressing "X" key on qwerty keypad - release "X" key after you see MOT batwings.
2- You should now see an ! in a triangle with Android guy. Press the "vol up + vol down" to enter factory menu.
3- Use Vol Up / Vol down to navigate to "wipe data/factory reset" and then use "enter" key on qwerty keypad to select "wipe data/factory reset"
4- Use Vol Up / Vol down to navigate to "Yes - delete all user data" and then use "enter" key on qwerty keypad to select "Yes - delete all user data"
5- Wait for operation to complete (maybe 1 minute or so) and then press "enter" key on qwerty keypad to select "reboot system now"
camera and "@" key - in my case does nothing
We'll see if the problem will be solved when you do the wipe data..
'@' was valid till Froyo build. For Gingerbread 'vol up + vol down' works.
Thanks sahilarora911, I press vol up + vol down and I do factory reset and format cache... the system is more stable but the login with xda app cause first system crash :-( I hope this is an isolated event.....

Hello All,
I've been looking on the site for hours and can't figure this out. Hopefully someone can help me.
Sorry if this is a similar post to someone else but after reading lots of post none helped me out.
I just got a Motorola Atrix 4g unlocked and tried to update the OS from the offical site using their software and when it was almost finished the Atrix rebooted and not is stuck in a boot loop where it gets to the pulsing M logo then restarts.
I'm not sure what to do and not too familar with rooting or anything i just tried to use the offical site software so i wouldn't have issues and bang i got F up. hopefully someone can help me out.
Thanks in advance.
Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday. I asked someone on the motorola support forums and he helped me like this: first you need to do an external hard reset. Here are the instructions but there is a small variation once you get to the triangle/android screen, because in gingerbread you are supposed to do this: "Instead of tapping the lower right corner of the screen push both volume up and volume down buttons at the same time for the recovery menu.
Then, instead of tapping "OK", use the power button to confirm."
To perform an External Manual Reset of your handset to restore to factory settings, read instructions below and then perform.
Power off the phone, press and hold volume down button, press power button.
Screen will come up with "Fastboot", press Vol down key to cycle through choices until you get "Android Recovery", then press Vol up key
Wait for the "triangle ! / Android" screen
Tap on bottom right corner of the screen (may take a few times). a menu will come up
Tap on "wipe data/factory reset", and tap OK. Another Confirmation screen will come. Tap Yes and OK
After userdata is cleared, the "reboot system now" option will be highlighted by Default. Tap OK.
Phone will reboot to initial setup MOTOBLUR screen.
I hope this will help. It saved my phone yesterday. On the other hand, welcome to the world of gingerbread bugs and glitches...
oh and never use official updates in the phones settingz it will.f stuff up k
i went to the darkside today

Thanks for the help I some how got it back up and running and now its at 2.3.4 from 2.2.2 so i'm happy.
Hi, a friend has one of these and I'm trying to help him root/custom rom. I used the Droid X Boot strap from market after the root. I can get to CWR from the bootstarp but how do I get there from power off mode? (for example In HTC Thunderbolt it's power and volume down)
Also, can/should I use rom manager after boot strap?
I'm using Liquid's latest but very buggy, SD card won't get recognized. Any suggestions on the most stable rom (preferably AOSP)
Check my sig for an extensive Droid X Specific How-to.
Getting into CWM from power-off isn't available on 1st init roms...
But some roms have a "fail-safe" that you can turn on booting into CWM after every boot up.
On a couple (MIUI, EncounterICS) roms, a new Boot-menu has been made where you simply press the down-volume button right when this blue light flashes during boot.
(You obviously need to be on one of those roms for it to work)
I'd suggest CM7 or MIUI so far for stability as far as (true) AOSP goes.
EncounterICS is coming along nicely, however...and shows promise in the near future.
Links to a couple of roms that I'd suggest are also in the post linked in my sig.

Thank you. I actually ended up with the Liquid for her. It seems like all the problems was comong from the bad SD card which gave out and she lost everything. I'm trying to see if I can somehow get some of it back but that's another story...
I'm a big fan of CM7 but don't like to install nightlys for others, especially if they live in another state. I don't see a stable CM7 so I will wait. It appears that Liquid is also AOSP and is playing nice MIUI is nice but I'm kind of sick of it. I love vanilla Android. All these theming isn't for me.

awesome, I guess this is what I was looking for: to get to some kind of recovery when stuck. Hope I don't have to visit this post though.
My mom bought a used Moto Bravo and inserted her sim in it for it to say "SIM card is removed or changed. Log in to your MOTOBLUR account to unlock". She doesn't have one and does anyone know how to bypass or erase the current one?
What you should do is a factory reset which will delete all accounts and reset settings to stock as if the phone were new (also will delete any apps you've downloaded)
1. Power the phone off
2. Once off, Press the power button and volume down keys at the same time until you see the M logo and continue holding the volume down button.
2. You should now see a little android and exclamation point, release the button... now press both volume buttons at the same
time.
3. Now you should be in a small menu, scroll down using the volume keys and select the factory reset option using the power button, confirm and let it do its thing without interrupting it.
4. Once it says its complete you should now do the same thing only wipe the cache, it might say cache partition I can't remember
5. Once that's done you can now select the option to reboot your phone. (It may take a while on this first boot up)
You should be fine after that... post if you have results or issues.
*Im not responsible if you mess your phone up.

Hello there!
As you mentioned that you are not able to see other Recovery options like "Install from zip" etc. This is because you must be booting your phone into the Stock Recovery. For those extra options to come up we need to boot the phone into the Custom Recovery.
To boot into Custom Recovery:
1. Press power on button;
2. Notice when the LED light blinks "BLUE" color; press both the volume keys this time;
3. Now it should show you Custom Recovery options this time;
4. Select "Install from Zip" and flash the ROM you were trying to flash (Also refer to the ROM info if that has some special installation steps).
If the above steps does not resolves the issue then you can always flash you phone with the Stock ROM found in the following article named as SBF:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
[Note: Above mentioned article has all the information that a defy user needs. Thanks "Zephyrot" for that wonderful article.]
Hope that helps!
Good Luck!!
there is no blue led, when press power button it stuck on red moto logo..
and when press both vol down and power it goes into recovery with limited options.
can it is possible i put rom into sd card and rename it with Update.zip and then in recovery use it with update zip..
or any other solution
Thanks

I'm disappointed to know that you are still facing the same issue. Also, renaming the file to update.zip will not let you flash it.
As suggested above first recharge your battery for a while and then flash with appropriate SBF of your region using RSD Lite. Refer to the above given link it has all the information. Also, note that if you flash with any particular android version SBF (which is not a fixed SBF) then you will not be able to downgrade (above article has all info).
Hope this helps!

You may use any ROM either Froyo or Eclair. Please also check the downgradilbility of the ROM. As in many of the cases if the ROM is not fixed then switching back to the earlier versions is impossible without having the Nandroid backup. I suggest you to use the version which is officially released in your region.
ROMs can be downloaded from the below mentioned link:

What we need to do?
We are launching Stock Recovery and wiping cache and data.
Use below mentioned steps:
1. Remove battery from phone and then reinsert;
2. Press and hold Volume Down button along with Power button till you see Android icon with an exclamation mark (!);
3. Once you see android icon and exclamation mark release both buttons and now press volume up and volume down button together;
4. Above steps will launch Android System Recovery window (Stock Recovery);
5. Now “wipe data/factory reset” by pressing volume down key and to select press power key;
6. On the next screen it will prompt you to confirm this option by selecting “yes – delete all use data” select this option with power key again;
6. Also “wipe cache partition” from power key as mentioned above;
7. Now select “reboot system now”;
After above steps it will take around 3-5 minutes for first boot and your phone will now boot in normal state.
If the above steps does not resolves the issue then I would recommend you to use some other SBF depending on your region.
Hope this helps!

What if I have balck screen in recovery mode as well?
Do you have any idea how to solve the same problem if the recovery mode does not start neither? Only RSDLite sees that the phone is connected. I can refresh the ROM but I did not find the right .sbf file yet. Do you know maybe which one would bring back the phone from death?
Thank you in advance!!

Unfortunately it doesn’t work for me, my defy doesn’t react for any key combination. RSD Lite still discovers it I can flash any sbf’s. But I’m still getting black screen. The problem is that I don’t know which sbf I should use… Please help. I know I can’t brick defy but if I don’t know how to get back I’m almost there…

It seems an issue with the Kernel. May be you are flashing the Green lense Defy (MB525) with GB kernel (i.e. MB526 sbf).
Also check the Bootloader version and which Android version you were using.
Here is a list of all the SBF's for both versions:

Hope this helps.
PS:- I don't use Defy for a year now as I own a Nexus 4.
