[Q] Skype video problems - Acer Iconia A500

Christmas greetings to all.
A500 running rooted HC3.1.
Have installed the latest Skype version but Skype video doesn't work. I can see the other person but they can't see me: my video preview (on my tablet) is a green screen.
The camera/camcorder apps work fine and voice calls are OK.
I've been using Titanium backup to freeze quite a few unwanted apps/features (used lists on these forums for guidance) and am wondering if it's a dependancy on one of these that's causing the problem.
Anyone got any ideas other than unfreezing everything?

Have you checked the video call settings? And which apps have you froze?

Acer Iconia a500
I bought my girlfriend this tablet for Christmas and she is very upset that the latest Skype doesn't work. She tried it from her Acer to my HTC Sensation, Macbook, and iPad and on all 3 platforms I can't see her. All I see is a green screen.
I assume this is the application correct? Is this problem fixable I hope?
Thanks for the input guys.

Thanks for the quick reply given the holiday season Jon, which "Video Settings" d'you mean? I've enabled video calling within Skype but can't find anything sounding like that elsewhere on the tablet.
Frozen apps are:
Gallery
Sound Recorder
Recorder
Photo Browser 3D
Movie Studio
Clear Fi
Calendar
Acer Sync Helper
Acer Sync
Acer Contact folders
Acer One Time Init
Magic Smoke Wallpapers
SMS/MMS/APN Mobile Network Config'
Voicemail
My Location
Music Visualization Wallpapers
Nemo Player
Google Search
Kobo
Live Wallpaper Picker
Media Server
Acer Registration ***
Exchange Services ***
*** In Titanium backup, these have a "smiley" icon but are crossed through, have tried restoring them but "Restoring App" box just sits there, spinning as though it can't find something. Have to Force stop Titanium.

I too can't get video working in the latest version of skype (or any version for that matter)
When I go to the settings menu there is no video calling section at all in the menu, so I can't enable it.

Was working fine for me until latest Sjype app market update, then green screen outgoing video as noted.
I fixed by uninstalling, then loaded older version.
Just google skype app 2.5.0.108 apk.
If you find a copy, download, install and all should work with that one.
Good luck!

I have tried both 2.5.0.108 and the most recent market version, and in both cases the enable videocheckbox is simply missing in the settings.

I was talking about the settings at the very bottom of the settings list. May want to check the 'show my video to:' setting and see if that may be set to show your video to contacts only and maybe whoever your calling isnt in your contancts? I'm really not sure since my video chat is working fine for me. Also, I dont see any any apps that may be causing this. As for your titanium backup issue, it sounds like you may have uninstalled the apps, not froze them. If you froze them than youd want to use the defrost option to get them back. But if you uninstalled them than you cant restore them because titanium backup does not back up system apks, it only back ups the data for the system apps.
And for everyone who cant find the option to enable video calling, it's most likely because of your rom which has a build.prop for a tab that skype doesn't support.

Aha!
There's no "Show my video to" in the Settings list, only 13 options, "Wireless networks" through to "About tablet" none of their sub-menus show that option either.
As for your final comment "..... most likely because of your rom which has a build.prop for a tab that skype doesn't support": my Kernel is 2.6.36.3 and ROM A500- 4.010.41_COM_GEN1, does this mean I'm completely screwed?
Or would flashing a different stock ROM or a mod'd ROM resolve it?
Thanks for all your help.

my mom skype work, she is totally stock with the latest update, mine didn't but then I rooted mines, I haven't tested since, but will check as soon as she wakes up!!! ps. MY dad Iphone4s couldn't see my mom either (could only see Green) but my mom could see my dad!!
ps. Using tango work so is totally app problem!!

Considering that I'm running the stock 3.2 rom (although rooted), I find that hard to believe in light of the number of people with the same tablet not having any problems, and especially considering that this is posted in the Iconia A500 section of the site.
I originally suspected the fact that I was rooted as the problem, however my motorola milestone (which is also rooted) has no problem with video calling (which is entertaining on a device without a front facing camera!)
Next idea?

try the new yahoo messenger it does very well actually. You have to download the messenger and video chst plugin.

Will that allow me to connect to other people running Skype?
This thread is not about alternatives to skype, there are plenty of those. This thread is about ways to talk to other people who have skype. I can't convince the world to change, nor should I have to when other people can make skype work fine for them on the same tablet I'm using.

Geeze people.
5.6.59.110 version skype.
Harkon, Taboonay, Lightspeed, Thor's v14, Honeylicious, they all support Skype with video. If you do things right to begin with.
The problem, is that somewhere along the line, apps got installed, probably to mess with GL settings and such. Game add-ons, and who knows what. And in the end, things got goober'ed.
Flashed roms, flashed kernels, leftover bits of code that were never wiped away, because of improperly flashed items. Who knows.
Wipe your system, reflash your rom, only this time, after your 3 wipes, goto mounts, and format all 3, and Flexrom. Then, after you flash your rom, if you so choose, let it start. Then after you do your setup, go back and flash the kernel, if applicable.
Then try skype.

in not aware of any cross platform/app that allows video between programs.
Start a video chat program comparability protest.
For the record Skype does work for me also.im on a very hacked verson of the honey rom posted above.
Try yelling at Skype not here in this forum.
Don't make erica cry. She will tell her mommy on you

Thanks for everyone's input.
Messenger may work, but as stated already, it's Skype I need.
Have now flashed it with a backup I took with Acer Recovery before I did anything with Titanium Backup so it's back in the state where there'd been no "...game add-ons,..who knows what,..flashed roms,..kernels,..leftover bits of code" etc.
The Video options still aren't there so it looks like Acer in their wisdom overlooked it in this firmware (4.010.41), can anyone confirm?
However, somewhere in the recovery process the cached license data for Acer Recovery has got lost! so now, to try any other ROMs it seems I'm gonna have to buy it again (the "Market" app doesn't recognise me anymore even though I can login to Market via a browser).
And a NOOBie question to Moscow Desire, could you please further explain these
"Wipe your system" (is that a system reset?)
"after your 3 wipes, goto mounts"?
"format all 3, and Flexrom"?
Thanks

Dude, the biblical steps.
1. Boot to CWM recovery (pwr and vol- till you see text in the upper right corner)
2. Wipe User data
3. Wipe Cache partition
4. Go to Advanced, wipe dalvik
go back screen
1, goto Mounts
2. Format..
a. User
2. cache
3. dalvik
4. flexrom
This will totally clean any and all from internal memory.
Then flash your rom
after boot, and user info, then reboot to recovery and flash kernel (wiping dalvak only)
If you cannot do this, then you need to goto the Market, and download and install Acer recovery, and install the Thor recovery. I sincerely hope you are rooted with a superuser app in your programs, that actually works.
If not, ohhhhhh.... will have to take you through the process.
No problem
But please, do not even to begin this, without first making a recovery back-up of your current system.

go to the acer recovery installer thread and let the dev know you have issue with license.he will help.
And yes understand that lots use Skype.
To wipe completely when flashing roms.
Boot into recovery
Go to wipe menus.
Wipe cache
Wipe battery.
Wipe. Data.
Go to. Partitions and formats (not remember exact menus name)
Format partitions. BUT NOT SD PARTITION.
GO to I think advanced and reboot recovery.
Install rom.
Back to advance reboot recovery.
Then wipe lenient again as above .
DO NOT FORMAT AGAIN.
REBOOT and you should have a super clean trouble free flashed rom.
Hope you can understand my poor directions.

The problem with Skype not working is you have Lib's that were patched and are missing (meaning you have older lib files loaded). If you want it fixed, then install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20680452&postcount=137
This will flash you to 3.2.1, clean, with root and busybox. Once this is done, download Skype and I guarantee you it will work . With Video and sound. Also, NetFlix will work too for you.
(Assumes you are USA and English)
TD

OK Moscow Desire, before I go further (and thanks for all help so far and sorry to be such a pain')....
I do have Acer Recovery(AR) 2.53 (although there's now a problem 'cos it's doesn't know that it's a 'paid-for' version which I hope is easily resolved via Market) with CWM 1.5, and Superuser (both AR and Titanium Backup Pro report SU rights on startup so I assume that's OK).
I performed a AR backup prior to freezing things with TB and the tablet's been restored to that (it's since then that the AR license has been screwed up).
That backup is stored on both my PC and Tablet Ext SD card and once I get AR going again I can do another backup of the current setup.
So, .... I used AR to boot into recovery and see the menu you mention but I haven't selected any of them yet as I'm now very wary of doing ANYTHING without double-checking, (I assume you've abreviated them .... 'Wipe User data/Cache partition' are within "Wipe Menu" and 'Wipe Dalvik" is under "Advanced"?).
And I guess 'goto Mounts' is "Mounts and Storage" and 'Format..User/cache/dalvik/flexrom is/are within that option?
Your comment 'This will totally clean any and all from internal memory', does this mean that even Acer Recovery will be gone and I'll have to go the ADB route to flash a ROM? or will the AR app still be there to let me to do things the "easy" way? or will I be using only the AR boot console?
And, never having gone through this I'm itemising your last comment -
'after boot...' (when the new ROM is flashed, the tablet boots up?),
'and user info...' (eh? is this something that appears on the screen?),
'then reboot to recovery and flash kernel (wiping dalvak only)'... (isn't a kernel supplied as part of a ROM? if not, won't the current one still be there/usable?, can't you get an all-inclusive package?, how d'you distinguish a ROM from a Kernel? where do I get a suitable one from?)
Finally (hopefully), I'm in the UK, running what I assume is a region specific ROM, what would be the implications if I inadvertently flashed a stock ROM designed for the US?
Sorry to ask what are to you, are clearly stupid questions but I hope you can tolerate me a little longer.
Erica_Renee.... what d'you mean by "Then wipe lenient again..."?
Thanks everyone.

[Troubleshoot Discussion] all Android Market problems here!

i am coming across from a rooted G1, i had about 160 apps i have managed to get most restored with mybackpro but have had market issues since i first signed in.
Apps when downloading continue to show as downloading even after they are installed, is this just a syncing delay, I know I had this with my G1 at times when switching between roms and it usually fixed it self after a few days.
If this is the case is there anything I can do to try and fix this myself, its very annoying as the whole market is app is slow.
Error opening market.
Hi,
The Internet browser on my Galaxy S I9000 opens all web pages on both, GPRS and WiFi networks. However, the following applications give me errors-
1. Market - "Server unavailable. Please try again later". For both, GPRS and WiFi networks
2. Talk - It simply shuts down without showing any dialog box on both networks.
3. Maps, Gmail, Mail, Samsung Apps - Works only on WiFi and not GPRS
I do not have a 3G network in my region yet.
Since market doesn't open; I can not download anything.
Kindly guide me with this. I am more concerned about [1] and [2].
Thanks !

Market Fix JF2 not working
Hi,
I tried everything, but its not working. I changed the build.prop (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7309462&postcount=162) wiped the cache and app cache, but still not full app catalogue in the market...
Can anyone help me?
A lot of them do, some mess up but devs are usually fast in tweaking the app to work with froyo
Upgraded to JM2 and now certain market apps missing
Hi, i'm pretty sure i'm in the right section, anyway, I upgraded to firmware JM2 and now there seems to be the odd app missing in market, not specifically paid ones.
For example myplayer is not there, is there a fix available for this or has the app just dissapeared(could anyone verify?).
Many Thanks

Market Problem
Hey,
i can find all apps on Market but can't download any of them.
If i press install it says in German: "Download wird gestartet..." means more or less in english:"Download starting..." it gets stuck on this message.
I used JM2 and OneClick LagFix 2.0 market wasn't working. so i decided to reflash and don't use oneclick lagfix, but nothing.
Then i flashed JM5, bit it still doesn't work.
I also tried another googlemail account, but nothing..
Anyone has a idea? I can't even restore my backups, since i can't download titanium backup from market lol.
This has happened to me today too! Maybe it is problems with the market servers.. :/ Now I am stuck without any applications until it is fixed.
I have the exact same problem and i have also tried a factory reset, if i find a solution I will let you know.

Help! My Locations app has disappeared!

Hi guys,
I just recently bought a HTC Desire HD and have been enjoying it very much.... I have rooted and S-off, but have yet to install recovery clockwork ....
That aside, yesterday I started moving some stock app files to a folder on the sd card (so I can remove it from my phone, plus back it up just in case) with root explorer (r/w mounted), I didn't move the HtcLocationService.apk. All went ok...
But just this morning I noticed my locations icon on my phone's interface has turned into the green android image...meaning the program is gone! It cannot be found in my programs at all.
I have tried to do the "reinstall locations" in the settings, but it says "unable to find an activity to handle this action", and I've tried to go straight to the HtcLocationService.apk to install it (not even sure if it is the right application) and it says "application not installed".
I am really stumped, and would like Locations back on my DHD!!
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance
What stock apps did you uninstall? Some apps are bound to eachother. Locations is probably bound to navigation or footprints or maybe another app. So if you uninstalled that, that could be the cause.
If it's really gone, then probably the only way to reinstall it is installing the stock ROM again (or a custom one). You probably can't install it again because locations needs some other stock app (if my hypothesis are right).
I took out stuff like friendstream, Plurk, Twitter, FieldTest, Flickr, HTC_IME, EasyCard, Laputa, KKBOX, plus phone provider apps (since I'm with TaiwanMobile, myfone) so TWM_City/Market/Movie/Music etc....
I've since moved the files back into system>apps, but it hasn't changed anything....is there any possibility I could get Locations back???
I can't think of an idea to reinstall Locations that easy. You can just install the official ROM again. You don't even have to be rooted then.
Have a look at this thread. If you deleted .apk files of the 2 lowest lists, then you could try to reinstall them first. Otherwise I don't know. maybe someone else.
I would have reinstalled the official ROM again. Just to make sure everything works correctly again. (and then start over removing apps :') ).
But maybe someone else knows a better solution
Thanks for you quick reply!
Can you point me to a thread that would explain the process of installing an official rom (where i would download the rom, etc)? Plus is there a way I can back up all my games, apps and settings, so I don't have to reinstall every app and game again?
would a Factory reset help? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm hoping I get this resolved
First of all: I found this thead for installing system .apk's. Maybe that can help. But it seems pretty comlicated .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
A factory reset should restore everything, (ofcourse I was tthinking to complicated :') ).
All apps you installed from the market will be reinstalled if you login with you google account again. It can take a while. It also remembers wich apps you bought. It won't however save any data (like saves for games).
For other apps (and all apps if you want to backup the data), you could download titanium backup (also available in the market). Keep in mind though that for restoring any backups made with this app, you need root acces again.
The facotry reset will remove your personal data. Only your sdcard and simcard will keep their info.
I hope all is clear what I told . So no ROM download needed. :')
Let us know if it has worked
Hey again,
I just factory reset my phone, using settings. Locations has not been restored , also some gadgets was not working (may be the widgets I have removed before). The front page weather animation is gone! Only the time left...(how would I get that back?)
Any other suggestions will be appreciated!
go to locations in settings... u will find a tab "reinstall locaton" make sure u r on wifi...and it will install it back...it happnd with me and got it back instantly

[ROM][2.1] Eclair Strikes Back v2 [2011.06.23]

Since there's been some interest in comparing the 2.2 ROMs with the 2.1, here are some stock eclair nandroid images based on the Cincinnati Bell 2.1 ROM that can be used in OpenRecovery without flashing SBFs. You can use these to switch between 2.1 and other 2.2 ROMs without bothering with RSD Lite/sbf_flash.
Of course gallery key, camera and FM radio work well on these. Although, I've been having market problems (paid apps fail to download). Hopefully that will resolve itself if/when market decides to self-update... In the interim, I recommend using something like Titanium Backup to migrate your paid apps.
Eclair Strikes Back v2 (2011.06.23)
This is a tweaked version of CBW_eclair_STR_U2_04_1E_1.zip with some tricks we've been using in 2.2 (expanded apns-conf.xml, JIT from FrozenEclair, memhack to move dalvik-cache to /cache, egl.cfg hack to disable software rendering).
eclair-strikes-back-v2-beta.zip (the beta is now final )
Changes since v1:
ext-partition support compatible with the stock221-derived ROMs*
Automatic swap support for fjfalcon's fastboot kernel
Automatic support for link2sd (either FAT extra partition or stock221's /sd-ext/link2sd method)
Additional cpu governors (conservative, interactive)
Market upgraded to 2.2.7
*dalvik-cache on /sd-ext is not supported by default on this ROM.
Previous release: Eclair Strikes Back v1
eclair-strikes-back.zip
2011-06-16 Update to fix market on ESB v1 (upgrades market to 2.2.7)
Stock 2.1 (Cincinnati Bell)
This is a rooted version of Cincinnati Bell's STR_U2_04.1E.1 with OpenRecovery support pre-installed.
CBW_eclair_STR_U2_04_1E_1.zip
Hey Mioze do you have the app2ext script that is in the Bluesteel rom? Might try your eclair nands with it and see what i get.
I've finally successfully downloaded and installed a paid app from the market now on Eclair Strikes Back. Market is still old one though... not sure why it's taking so long to update to new one. When I did a factory reset on stock 2.1 soon after I bought the phone the market updated itself pretty quickly IIRC.
Still, this feels so smooth and fast....
EDIT:
And don't seem to be having downloading issues with any apps, be it paid or free anymore. Maybe you'll have to manually replace the market.apk with the new one though, since I'm not sure it's ever going to self-update.

And what about moving applications to the sd? available or will be applied app2sd?. Open recovery will still work? I have some applications that are supported only from 2.2, they can no longer be installed .... of course there will have to sacrifice something.
I at the continuing problems of delay in opening and closing apps, malfunction of the camera, out of trouble and delay an application to load the launcher and would return to around 2.1, but I also like the space for application installation and open recovery.
PS: It's easy to return to 2.1?
download on process
kinda miss the haptic feedback hahaha..
thx a lot Mioze..
I'm pretty sure you can only move apps to SD for 2.2... since I never used it (I never have so many apps installed at once that it's neccesary) I don't mind losing that functionality.
There are a few apps from 2.2 that I like, most notably the new gmail and youtube apps, but those are minor sacrifices for me really.
Open recovery is installed in both those links. I find the camera works much better on 2.1, seems much faster in taking and processing pictures.
In any case, it is indeed very easy to return to 2.1 and then return back to a 2.2 ROM if you don't like it. You take one of those links (I'm using eclair strikes back) and flash it through nandroid just as you would any other ROM that we have here. And you can flash back the same way if you don't like it.
Be advised, there are currently some issues around the android market for some reason (just see the posts above)... I'm thinking we might have to replace the market apk.
Anyways, I personally am loving it.
EDIT:
Oh, you might have to setup the APN's as well.

I intend to make an updated eclair-strikes-back to add app2ext support and additional governors but I probably won't have time until later in the week. I view link2sd as the eclair equivalent of froyo's native app2sd, though. Link2sd may already work with fat as the second partition, but I haven't tested it yet because of the market problem. The market problem is #1 on my list when I get time.
And yes, these 2.1 ROMs will keep OpenRecovery intact and you can just flash between 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs the same way you would switch between 2.2 ROMs.
Thanks for the work Mioze7Ae! Let's try it, you know, always gives a bit of fear making a mistake, but gradually removes the fear. I do not know that flashing. It's like applying an Update? I apply a copy nandroid?

I know how you feel. I always used to have fear/apprehension when flashing a ROM. I've done it enough times now that it's all gone by now though.
Anyways:
Download the ROM. Unzip it. Copy and paste the folder (should contain 4 things in it boot.img etc...) into your SD card under OpenRecovery/Nandroid/ (if you've gone to a 2.2 ROM you should see that ROM in the same place where you're putting this). Anyways, launch open recovery and do recovery boot or hold volume up while pressing power on (if your phone is off). If you get an image and nothing happens, you may have to go into open recovery and select install recovery system before doing this - if you have a bunch of weird pictures in your gallery including Darth Maul then you don't have to worry about this. Then navigate - using the volume keys to move up and down and the camera button to select - to Nandroid, select restore, select Eclair strikes back, select restore all. Once that's done, make sure to wipe data/factory reset and then wipe/clear dalvik cache and cache. Then reboot and it should work. (First reboots are long).
You may have to setup your APN's also.
Excellent. Thanks, sounds simple ... downloading ..... then tell how it worked.

They actually go in nandroid/openrecovery/, it's the updates.zip that go in OpenRecovery/updates/ so it's easy to remember that wrong. I'm always adb push'ing to them so I only noticed the mistake because I've got the muscle memory from typing them all the time. Gotta love the consistency
hey mioze7ae, using it right now btw, is it possible to change the read_ahead settings to 2048 instead of 128? i can manually replace the file but once reboot, it changes back.
thanks!
Manual market update
I replaced /system/app/Vending.apk with the 2.2.7 com.android.vending.apk found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875067
After doing this and rebuilding dalvik-cache I have the new market and I am able to install paid apps! I'll make an update for it tomorrow, I have to crash.
Two things you can get from market before you flash. APN backup/ restore and SD speed Increase. You can backup your APNs and then once you get to the eclairs, restore them. SD Speed Increase will kick up your SD cache to 2048, instead of 128. Both are free.

Much appreciated... Didn't know there was such an app and it's a pain to re-enter all that stuff...

I just want to check; is it completely safe to remove those wierd pics in the gallery?

Yes. But if you have to use open recovery for whatever reason, you'll need them. You can either click install recovery as needed (which creates the pics) and delete them after, or the best thing to do is get an app that just hides the pics from gallery - so they are there when you need them, but don't interfere. I saw an app "Gallery Excluder" or something floating around in the XDA Android Apps section - that would work. Or a gallery like QuickPic let's you hide things as well.
EDIT:
Nevermind, Gallery Excluder hides folders only. There are other apps though, I believe.
Just an update on progress with ESB
I've done some testing and Link2SD already works with the released eclair-strikes-back but currently only when using FAT for the second partition.
To get ext support in, I'm trying to get the darktremor a2sd scripts to work. They look high quality and robust and should handle swap gracefully when booting the custom kernel as well (current status--some rare hung boots with a flaky SD card when using the latest beta scripts, will try the stable release next). There's also a GUI in the market for managing the SD card (currently only Froyo+, I'm inquiring whether the developer can add eclair support).

I am hoping that the ext will come through. If I am using the sd-ext/app folder on the Steelblue ROM, can I leave all my apps in there and flash your eclair with ext support (when ready) or will I have to use Titanium-migrate? I would think that it really wouldn't matter for most of the apps, except FroYo specific ones like Flash 10.3 but not sure.
p.s. Are you going to call your next version "Return of the Eclair"?
MD5 Check failed. Does this have something to do with the fact that I bought my phone in the middle east?

[Q]Android Market issue with buying apps.

Hello!
It's my first post so I hope everything I write here is in correct place. I wanna add that I was searching for similar threads so I think I didn't miss anything. My problem is that:
I registred at Market with my old GMAIL account, and I can download any free apps but when I wanna buy something and I press to buy for example 0.69p button I see next page and instantly message appears that: "Error has occured, please try again." I tried through my PC, I went to market and buy something, I add card etc everything happen correctly I even have my application on phone without doing anything, but still after many reboots the problem isn't solved. I have to add that I live in UK and installed CM7 today so maybe I have to update something or so. (Tried restart.)
Thank you kindly,
Rec.

are you using the new market/ what lcd_density are you using?
Well I don't even know how to update Android Market, and I just use one provided with software after installation. I downloaded from Market LCD Density for Root app and when I run It I see that default is 240, so I think this is my density, otherwise I don't know how to check it if it's wrong.
Thanks.
Edit:
Sorry I am blind I didn't provide information of ROM, it's: TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.7.3[2.3.7][A2SD][tytung r12.4v3]
use market 3.1.5. I have also this issue after using market 3.2
Can I ask how to do it ? Since I found 3.1.5 apk file but it is impossible to overwrite it or even remove higher version of market. I don't know if it matters but when I try to install for example themes etc through clockwork I also have this issue:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.

Hope it is also important.
Thank you!
Bump.
Any possibility for getting any tutorial how to do it ? I was trying a lot of methods and nothing. I would be very thankfull for any help.

I'm assuming that many people do have market working on the Typhoon build, and therefore there must be something wrong with my set up....
if everyone had to downgrade market surely the typhoon thread would be loaded with comments on it!
So I'm tempted to just go for a full blank and reinstall...task 29, reinstall CWM clear out caches and dalvik cache from CWM, reinstalled Typhoon and see....
trouble is I'm not sure if that really clears everything, and might make it work....so some advice on getting it right would be appreciated.....as it takes time to get it all set up again, as I'd assume best not to use any backed up info/data/settings from Nandroid or titaniam in case what ever is causing the problem gets restored......
Cheers again for any advice
K
So I have tried clearing caches from ROM manager, CWM, rebooting....
I can see this question asked in the Typhoon thread, at least twice with no answer (I can't yet post there).
BTW I can buy Apps from Market on the PC and it sucesfully installs on the HD2...so I think my accounts stuff is all fine.
So I guess the info I'm looking for if a specific fix is not known is "how to do a real and total wipe" - I'm confused by what Task29 does, and what I need to do to "blank" the SD card.....which I assume I should also do?
Any hints/steps?
or even any idea of if a total blank will help?

I wrote this on another thread I created.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20370071#post20370071
Hello all okay so I have another issue I ran into with Tytung's ICS ROM for the HD2.
When I go into the Marketplace I am able to download free apps and/or apps I have previously purchased but when I go to purchase a new app I get the error: "An error occurred. Please try again". I am able to purchase it online and it will send to the phone and download, I am able to purchase apps on my Motorola Defy running CM7, I have even tried wiping the the phone data & cache and wiping dalvic and re-installing but this still didn't work. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Hope you can help.
I had this same issue with Tytungs Nexus ROM, but I also had other issues where software switches would be changed e.g. mobile data etc.
When the latest update arrived I decided to do a fresh install, task29, radio, MAGLDR, format SD, the works.
Now the market purchase works perfectly, it was probably one crummy corrupt bit somewhere in the phone but couldn't find it.

unable to purchase paid apps googleplay

hi guys, as the title says...
I have cleared cache and data,
tried deleting my account and adding it again
reflashed my rom (taboonay 3.01.)
As soon as hit purchase I get "an error occurred. Please try again".
I can purchase via my phone and pc with no probs but not on my tab. Free apps are fine its just the paid ones, oh, and the in game apps wont either.
My next step is to factory reset but hoping someone may be able to help before having to go down that route.
ps I tried using my tabs browser to get to the webstore and successfully made a purchase - yay!! unfortunately it failed to download and the market shows no evidence of me having purchased it -boo!!. Emailed for a refund which i rec'd - phew!!
Which error code have you been receiving?
I know there have been issues with the market for a while now, and a lot of it is on google's side.
I had that on 3.2, same error.
What I did, was delete the current vending.apk
Copy in a different Market.apk, renamed it to vending.apk
Checked permissions to make sure they were the same as all other files in the same directory.
Then, go to App Manager, and delete the caches for the Market app.
Reboot, then do the sign in thing again for the market. It will eventually update itself. Should be good to go.
No error code is given, just what I posted "an error occurred. Please try again" as soon as I hit "Accept and Download".
I emailed googleplay support who inferred that my custom rom was at fault, typical support answer!! no-one else running taboonay seem to have issues so will wait a few days and try a full wipe an' format.
@moscow - thanks will try your suggestion first moscow, cheers
edit: seems there are some peeps psoting the same issue in the taboonay thread - i should have begun reading the newer posts, rather than older ones first...
new googleplay update 3.5.15
apparently there has been an update to googleplay i don't know when and not sure which version i currently running - not until i get home anyway.
i got the apk from droid-life if anyone wants it
I'm getting the same errors . Anyone have any ideas?
Tried moscows suggestion but no joy
So, factory reset, full wipe and full format and still no joy...
fixed...sorta
k, i just restored an icylicious backup and success!!! Heaven knows why it wont work on taboonay for some of us - anyways, if anyone comes up with a proper solution pls feel free to post it...
Did you try to download a free app first and then a payed one ?
I never had market problems and I flash almost every day clean install for testing.
I would suggest to keep trying and first a free app.
I added the phonesky.apk (original acer vending app) ,
First remove the playstore or vending app (depending on what it is called) in system/app with file manager with root.
Then copy / paste the phonesky.apk in that system/app folder and reboot but make sure before you do this all to clear cache and data of market app in settings apps.

9. Download and installed a free app
10. Choose paid app, hit purchase
11. Error - An error occurred. Please try again.
12. tear hair out...
thanks for trying civ - i think i did the steps as you meant them to be done - it just won't work... I really wanna keep taboonay so looks like I'll have to switch to icylicious to purchase and install and then switch back to taboonay - weird!!!
I've been using the browser to go to https://play.google.com/store and buy from there.

Yes, that is an option, Are u on taboonay? -I tried the webstore but it gives me 9 or 10 different devices for my one and only tab!! I picked one and tho the purchase went thru fine - it never downloaded to tab so dunno where it ended up. Becoz it never actually got to my tab, I never got the refund option - had to email support for that, so i figure its easier to switch roms
Something that seemed to work for me
EDIT: It was crazy just tried to buy xda app and failed...... Ignore the rest of this post!!!
It might sound a bit crazy, but after doing a full format have you tried installing a HC ROM and making a purchase / downloading something free, then installing Tabooney 3.0.1 again? I had a ROM that was causing me the same issues + many others with certain apps I use alot, so I scrapped ICS for a month or so and used a couple of other ROMS (all HC) then tried Tabooney again. Amazingly it worked and purchases went through... Maybe not 'everythnig' is fully cleared out and installing a HC ROM killed the issue?? Not too sure, but I no longer have purchasing issues on my Desire HD or A500 with ICS... Just rage face when apps crash and playstore shuts and random stuff stops responding for a few seconds! (just removed ICS from my A500 after the GPS once again started teleporting me into fields and other roads from what i was on again... dam I want to be able to have a solid ICS ROM )
Anyways hope that helps someone

I am on Taboonay. When you pull the drop down menu for the devices, there should be a date you used it last next to each. I think there used to be a way to remove old device names from the list but I can't recall where or how right now.

k, i used the latest date and tried to install a previously purchased app, got the "will be d/l to your device shortly" after 30 mins I'm still waiting...
one thing I've noticed, I d/l a couple of free apps from the playstore on my tab. They are installed. The webstore however, shows them in 'My Apps' but to install only - therefore, they are not installed according to the webstore. So, I'm thinking perhaps the devices that are showing are ones that I have registered thru acer when I have intalled a new rom??? does that make sense - I know what I'm trying to say just not sure its comin out right, lol.
If i download apps in the market/playstore but the webstore don't see them as installed AND trying to d/l from the webstore to a "device" leaves me waiting, waiting, waiting. Then the webstore is not seeing the current "device" that I'm using??? Maybe becoz its not registered???? If u r on taboonay could u check to see if this is the case for you???
EDIT: I went to acer to register. Entered my SNID and it tells me it is INVALID...the plot thickens....

I tried the lightspeed rom last nite seemed to work well, i can purchase apps with it anyway!! I haven't suffered the SOD issue with this or icylicious or even taboonay so I guess I can be thankful for that at least...
Actually, after thinking about this, the latest date that shows might be the one you chose in the online store before, the one that didn't work. Try this- go into the google play app and Install a free app. Doesn't matter which one. Then, go to the online store and see if the name of the latest used device is any different. Mine is called Acer A500 by the store, if that helps.
I have a different issue.. I have rooted my A501, flashes moscow's alexandria rom, activated market enabler but still no luck in buying paid apps.. "The item you were attempting to purchase could not be found"
