I have had my hero for a few weeks now and have added a few apps I now want have a go at rooting and looking at other roms. Firstly will i lose the apps i have installed when i root it and secondly is there a way to back it up before rooting.
Thanks
You can back up your apps using an app called Titanium Backup (You find it in market - it's a free app). Then just download this app again from your new ROM and recover your apps. Easy peasy!
Don't you need ROOT to use 'Titanium backup' in the first place?
Therefore, this won't work for someone who want to backup apps before they 'root' their device.
I don't know if this works as I haven't tried this myself, but you could try 'Astro File Manager' this has an option to backup apps, doesn't require root and is free in the market.
Hi guys,
Just a quick question, is it worth using uninstall managers on an android 2.3 build or doe the function within the OS work well enough?
I have apps2sd+ on my phone too, does anyone know if uninstall managers work correctly with this?
Thanks for any help
only thing i ever use is Titanium backup.
If you not sure about a program, archive it, then remove it.
restart phone.
if it works fine, good.
if not, go back to titanium and restore the removed program,
restart. done.
Titanium is great for removing junkware (amazon, and other crap)
while being able to restore them if problems arise.
i also use titanium and root tool box to delete the stuff i do not want on my phone works ok
So, today I rooted my note using Zerg-rush exploit and got the My Backup app.
So, my question is, can someone provide me with a list of apps/services that I can safely freeze with no adverse effect on functionality?
( Maybe I'll compile a list of all such apps/services that you guys mention, so that other n00bs like me can benefit from it.)
Thanks in advance.
You can use Root App Remover. It can freeze and delete stock applications. The ones with red text (contacts, settings etc.) can't be removed, so it's pretty safe to use it if you know what you're doing. Do not delete random stuff just because you can. If you for example want to remove the stock keyboard remember to have another keyboard installed.
But it's totaly safe to freeze/delete the third party Samsung/carrier apps, but again be careful.
ok this might be a really stupid question/ theory but...
i just got this phone thanks to my lovely wife who gave it to me for Christmas i am noticing that the htc scene has seriously handicapped the ICS experience in comparison to any other ICS phone out there so the question is after i have rotted it can we just replace the default apps with the standard ICS apps ,dialer,Messages, people, and what ever other apps have been tweaked i would love to get the app drawer back
this phone has the kingdom recovery loaded and it has root access i guess the next logical course would be for me to find a decent rom for it
if anyone has any place for me to read point away or advice i would greatly appericate it
You could get a Cyanogenmod rom, make a back up of all the stock apps to your sdcard (apps like the dialer, contacts, etc.) and then find yourself a good ROM and reinstall those after deleting the ones built into the rom
You can also use Titanium Backup to integrate apps into the rom itself (and back up the apps in the part above) so that they are part of the system and not "user" apps
I think this is what you're trying to do

so were would i find said image then how would li go about extracting the apps has anyone done this
Get Ultimate Backup from the Play Store (the free version) and then open it and backup all the stock apps you want
Then restore your regular backup (or flash the ROM you want if you haven't yet) and get a file manager (like ASTRO)
In the file manager, go to your sdcard and look for a folder that says "App_Manager", thats where Ultimate Backup puts all the .apk's it makes
Then just go through and install all the stock apps (click on them and hit "install"), but before you do this make sure you UNINSTALL the equivalent apps in the ROM you're using (you can do this through Titanium Backup, just select each app you want to delete and hit the "batch uninstall" option)
apps
Okay just to make sure I have the straight
A mango backup my existing ROM with titanium backup which I I have already done so
And then I need to go find a ROM that does not have HTC sense 3.6 in it for my phone which does I have not had any luck in finding installed that ROM backup applications I want from that revert back to my semi-stock ROM mentions uninstall the stock sence And replace them with stock android 3.0.4 apps this it may be so much easier some it is an .apk for this
Hi.
I just got my TPT. Its a 32gb device with 3G, for my dad.
As its for my dad it should be rock stable so I think I don't need a custom Rom.
But Root. I already rooted the ICS device.
I would like to remove some of the preinstalled apps (bloatware).
Could you tell me which one to remove?
Lenovo App store (its closed) for example.
If I remove something from /system/app how can I get it back?
Is it reinstalled when the TPT is being resetted?
Thanks in Advance
you can just disable the apps, or you can make a CWM backup and then you can try to remove them using titanium backup, or some other app from the playstore.
Also there si a thread arround here about how to stop the TPT form installing all that bloat.
