Yes, member erwin929 was kind enough to correct the ftf for me!
Also, now baseband -64 and patch has been added.

brilliant, in terms of battery life and signal, how does .64 compare to .36, and is it worth switching?

I am in the process of testing myself, so I'll probably know after 1-2 days.
After a few hours of use, signal seems to be improved.
I get H (HSDPA) in my room, when I usually only get E (Edge) at best.

ok that sounds good, i will test .64 for a few days and if no luck will go back to .36. thank you for your help.

I want to try to patche the .36/.64 baseband following the thread above, but I wonder if there how could I back the baseband libraries currently installed so I could restore in case incompatible.
Mine is Arc with version 2.3.4 baseband 56, bootloader unlocked, rooted, and DoomKernel installed.
Thanks.

[Q] It is important to update the Firmware before Installing a Custom Rom ?

Hello Everyone,
I've been reading the "Ultimate Guide to the Huawei U8800" at the Modaco Android Forum, and until know I've been able to root my phone, install the recovery and fix the reversed Camera Bug.
But the fallowing part of the Tutorial talks about Firmware Update, is this really important before installing a Custom Rom ? And, if it is can anyone explain me why ?
Thanks in Advance,
Luis Da Costa
PS: Sorry for my bad English :S...
Well someone here at xda wrote that with the newest firmware you get a baseband-update for some devices (he was not sure I think). I did not apply the newest firmware, maybe it was already installed, at least I did not encounter any problems.
You cannot break anything by applying the newest update from Huawei. So if you want to make sure, go ahead. Just do not stick to the Huawei-ROM. Do yourself a favor and install void, Oxygen oder Miui. I use Oxygen, it is based on Android 2.3.5 which is just very fast and the battery lasts about 2 days. You won't get much support for the Huawei-ROMs and there are some bugs. But there also are bugs with the custom-ROMs, so read the description first.
I would strongly suggest updating to the latest B138/B162 before installing a custom Rom. To my knowledge, a stock Rom installation does the firmware upgrade on the screen/internal modules as well.
Thanks for your help. I just have one question. Since all links from Modaco are down, where can I download the lastest firmware ?
Thanks in Advance,
Luis Da Costa

As long as yours is a U8800 and not U8800H, then you should be just fine.

B138/B162 are the same?
I thought that B162 was newer than B13x versions.
Can you explain please?
Thanks

They are not the same. B13x are generally made for the whole world, except China. Being the home country, China has a dedicated set of Roms - B158, B160, B162 versions.
B138 is as new as B162, they were both released at the same time. I don't like B162, the icons and interface are slightly different.
I would recommend B137/B138, preferably 138 as it has the latest drivers.
Ok, thanks for the quick explanation.

Advise
For those that want to update the firmware of their devices, don't worry (I was very scary indeed :S), the phone will boot, and reboot, and reboot, and reboot .... until you see and Android screen ^^
OH THE CAMERA IS SO FAST COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL FIRMWARE !!! Thank you ! A lot really
I've used all roms and they work very well (I still prefer Oxygen), but I cannot use them because they need and External SD Card to take picture and listen to Music....
So until there I have no choice that stay with the Original Rom :S...
If only I can help solve the problem...

Always use the Generic Germany FW on my devices!
Hi, I'm in Germany but didn't get the update yet. Is this the right one to install oder will there be different versions?
Also I rooted my Z2 but still have stock rom, does this has any effect on the whole process? Will root stay, will it be gone, will it even work?
Thanks

Unfortunetly Im unavaliable until Monday.
Hopefully this fixes the extremely annoying echo that other persons hear when calling me. At the moment I cannot really use my phone as a *phone*, because the sound quality is just so unbelievably bad.
thank you for this DE version

LTE on the German firmware, that's why I use that instead of the French firmware that's using the "4G" icon. (****ing marketing morons thought it'd sell better this way...)
As this section is getting overwhelmed with sharing FTFs thread I have sticked this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2759934, and from now on all the sharing goes into that thread. Anyone opens a thread to share FTF will get closed. @op Please share your FTF there..

If anyone is interested in the SLiM rom that is now removed

While searching on my pc, I found that I still have the SLiM rom (I think it was rakesh who had posted it).
I have the version 4.5 base and the 4.9 ota.
If anyone is interested, let me know, along with a site where I can upload it.
