Tutorial flash - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello,i'm new here and i have a SGS.For the moment i have 2.3.4 Gingerbread XXJVP and i want to flash the phone with another kernel and rom.The problem is,i don't know how to do it,and i don't understand these termens. Can anyone tell me step by step how to do it?Or show me a tutorial or something.Thank you so much.

most of the threads have a tutorial on how to flash the roms
so a bit of reading is required
here is an example on youtube on how to flash ICS beta 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC7wTOZLL00

I know, but most of threads are not so helpful, the explanations are for people who know how to flash.

New questions

I read and searched a lot on the forum before posting this.
1/ Why is there 1000 methods to flash a ROM?
2/ Do I need to do a partition in all cases?
3/ Is there a ROM for 32A that adds multi touch to my device?
4/ Might be a lot to ask but why is there no PROPER tutorial on how to install a ROM?
5/ Can I brick my phone?
Thanks for your time.
This is not a development question. This belongs in the Q&A section. Read the stickies. From those stickies, you would also see a Hacking Wiki for the sapphire.
Read that.

I use MyHero 1.1.3 (32A with BFS 303 kernel) and multitouch DOES work. But it needs to be supported by the software, works great in the browser for example.
Ok good to know, i was not quite sure about it

Erm .. there's only one way to flash a rom ..
- Download rom and copy it to the sd card root folder
- Boot into recovery
- Do a nandroid backup
- wipe
- Flash the new rom
- reboot

Thats what I was thinking too
and my fav question out of the list:
Can I brick my phone?
Let me answer this one... from your list of questions I find it hard to believe you even know what "brick" means (no offense) but you should NOT even attempt to change anything about your phone except for whats in the menu>settings>sounds/display area
and I'll say it again no offense but people like this that have no idea what their doing is why the companies are so against us gaining root access because yeah theres some of us that understand what we are doing and the concept of linux but then you have these people that have NO CLUE then screw their phones up and guess who they call... not the dev, but the company crying about how they need a new phone...
Bottom line is if you dont know what you doing, DONT DO IT!

Hi im new and... :)

hello im new to all this android moding but I come from flashing nokia phone. I would like to know if there is a ROM that looks like samsung original? No cosmetic mods... All I want is speed speed speed. Someone help me
1. Wrong section
2. If you want speed, stock firmware is as good as it gets imho. All these other "roms" are just deodexed variants which doesn't give you speed improvement just more theming options.
3. What you want is a good custom kernel. I'd recommend trasig's kernel. Been using it for a month now and its very stable.
right now im running
2.2
i9000bujp4
karnel- 2.6.32.9 root
froyo.bujp6
+ lag fix but my phone still lags in the apps menu
I wanna update to the latest version but dont know how (kies not working). So roms dont give speed? only karnels do? I also need slovenian language
Like i said considering we're dealing with closed source and all these roms based on same firmware, deodexing,zipaligning...etc won't give you as noticable a difference as will a different kernel
In ur case ur looking for a ext4 kernel. May i suggest voodoo.
Hello, I've been using darky's ROM since the beginning, and I must say that his 8.0 edition ( gingerbread ) is a hell of a fast ROM indeed ! Cosmetics is reduced to just the gingerbread theme, which is nice and gives a good feeling on SGS.
Hope I helped you with this one

Yes, everyone starts out as a noob. Just most of us choose to follow the well-outline procedures that the experts have already made very clear.

You're WRONG. Newbs must exist. Noobs must not. And newbs should do non-newbs the favor of reading things like the FAQ before asking for help on the most basic things. We spend a lot of time making things as easy as possible for newbs.
Hint. Look in general section under sticky. Stock ROM's listed.
The modified ROMs are in Dev section.
I recommend spikes. Installation is in spikes 1st post. But better to flash stock on first attempt.
P.s. if u fight fire with fire u all waste time. If your gonna answer a thread then a negative response takes just as long as a positive response.

Hi!
I've decided to not open a new topic for this, since I have the exact same firmware as the OP.
The problem is, I can't find any information on this specific firmware, and I don't know if it's any good, or will I have to replace it... I'm hoping this won't be necessary tho, because this is my first Android device, and I'd like to start with simpler stuff, like rooting...
Which also brings me to my next problem: it says [email protected], and I have no idea what that means... Did I get a rooted version? Also, the 3-button combo for accesing download and recovery modes is working, and if I understood correctly, you are supposed to unlock it by yourself...
So, I'm hoping someone can enlighten me, and perhaps give me some pointers on how to play around with this amazing device...
Thanks!
No man.... newbs like me exists... i have low post count cuz i search and ask in specific threads before making a thread without reading first.
I know this community since 7/2009 and registered last year to participate instead of just leeching.
You can use google instead of forum search if you dont like it
On google enter:

Reading is better than asking same sh!t 100 times
Well, the problem is i dont know what to look for exactly, and its even tougher with the language barrier...
As posted.
Hint. Look in general section under sticky.

All the roms on the development section read the posts to see what you want .
Rom Kitchin would be my recommend
and tell me is it possible to return back to original firmware if i'm not satisfied with downloaded one?
NOT unless you save your original rom .
However you can get back to Stock Samsung rom that's the firmware before its been customized by the phone network .

Seriously dude, if you can’t give an answer, you are allowed to not post anything and waist more space. If you really feel you need to say something, direct the user, or do something useful.
Darkys rom is probably the best - at least the one I enjoy most.
Ps. Even though your question borders on being General, if you want to ask ROM related question please do so in the "Galaxy S I9000 Q&A", before someone die.
thanks JJEgan and everyone for support, i'll try some roms!

[21 Nov 2011][Video Tutorial]HTC HD2: How To Install Ice Cream Sandwich - Android 4.0

Hey guys, made a video tutorial on how to install ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich)
In the video i show you how to install tytungs NexusHD2 ICS ROM. I know other roms may use slightly different methods but you can modify my tutorial to work on your rom e.g. if the rom your installing tells you that you need a 250mb partition, then flash a 250mb partition instead of the 200mb one that i use in the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpuuwvZQRPI
also made a walkthrough/demo of tytungs rom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcdeaWB-lWM
No offense, but is this really necessary? And in the development subforum? After this long in the HD2's lifecycle im sure just about everyone knows how to flash a rom, as this isn't any different to install than any other android rom. Regardless, props for trying to help people out.
video tutorials are the pits... pictorials are where it's at.
reasoning? You can't update a video, you just have to post a brand new one, and either delete the old one or put a link for the new one in the old one, this is not conducent to clear understanding.

Agreed. This is pretty pointless.
There are plenty of guides already and this isnt really specific to ICS anyway, The steps are basically same for all roms.

the thing is some people actually don't know how to do it, i agree that most people should, but i get messaged all the time on my youtube channel asking how to flash stuff or asking me to help them with problems they are having flashing roms. and it may be pointless to you but if it helps a few people then its not pointless.

Problem is people don't search anymore.
Everything about flashing can be found at the right places, shouldn't be so hard!
If you can't find it, then you're not smart enough to flash it anyway.....
It's no rocket science!
Hmmm. I think this thread although made with good intentions is unnecessary and confusing. The tiltle suggests that there's some special method of flashing ics. Clearly there isn't and there are guides tutorials all over the place (including stickies) for flashing everything.

But if these "few" don't have the mental capacity to look at sticky topics or use search then they shouldn't be attempted to flash their phone in first place.
Thans for trying to be helpfull. But really this topic is pointless.
Its standard procedure not different from any other rom. And there is no point in making tutorial for every ROM. Only difference is in recovery size, cache...etc.
This is way backward and redundant, shouldn't be in dev thread, better place is in Q&A.
No offense but pls close this thread...

Agreed, not sure what the OP was thinking tbh. Is he/she/somebody else going to create a video guide for every rom even though steps are same?
Well at least, tytung's work has been featured on many websites, partially thanks to that video (it's a known fact that blogs prefer to add a video to a post).

Yes but that has got nothing to do with posting the said video in a dev thread. This rom does not need any special installation and is no different any other install and does not need to be in a dev forum.

all my other tutorial vids have been posted here and there has never been a problem.
IMO the only thing wrong with this thread is that it could cause some confusion as people may think that ICS uses a different flashing method. The thread placement is, as far as I'm concerned, fine
Is Froyo upgradable to I.C. Sandwich?

You really can't expect help whenever you ask for it, and if I knew anything about devving I probably wouldn't help you after that. Anyway, most devs don't pay attention to the Q&A section, so you're not likely to get too much help.

As the title says, I want to cook HD2 ROM since on every ROM I tried something was missing for me, so the solution is: I will develop my own ROM and share it here on XDA if its going well.
But, I don't really know how to start, I'm not a noob but not a developer either.
All I need is to know where to cook ROMs (I have dsixda kitchen and used it b4, but only for MAGLDR to cLK ports and some minor things, tried to cook with it but with no success, the ROM didn't boot, kerenl problem I believe...), I need to know how to start from scratch: grab base from somewhere, add / change kernels, add Aroma instalation etc.
The rest, tweaking ROM for example, I would like to know how, but too soon for now...
So please masters, help me out!

Well there are guides for dsixda kitchen, you just have to use the HD2 source code for whatever ROM type you want to cook (ie CM9 AOKP CM7 MIUI SENSE etc)
