flashing PC10IMG with no power button? - G2 and Desire Z General

ok one last quick question, the power lock button is currently dead on my phone and im currently redowngrading from a return to htc (refused due to liquid apparently) now the guide calls for me to install the pc10img by using adb reboot bootloader, but buttons are totally unresponsive in that state (even the volume ones which do work) however if i hold down the volume down button when i pop the battery back in it scans the card and finds and checks the pc10img fine and lists a load of stuff and asks me if i want to update, the only thing that concerns me slightly is that it says HBOOT rather than bootloader at the top, is it safe for me to say yes?

hboot indicates your Bootloader version.
So thats the place where you have to load the PC10IMG.zip's
Best and good luck,

[Q] bootloader issues

I am trying to get into the bootloader of my device by pushing up and power but it vibrates twice, nothing comes up and the orange led keeps blinking
I got into the stock recovery on accident, and it wiped my bootloader? I did the temp root and tried to push the engineering bootloader it still won't work.
edit: nevermind. LOL

To get to the bootloader, you hold Volume Down and Power. (The jury is still out on what Volume Up and Power does.)
The stock recovery first shows an image of a handset inside a triangle with an exclamation point, or something like that. Pressing Volume Up and Power then reveals the recovery menu. I assume you'll be replacing that with a custom recovery image soon.
If you did the command properly to flash the engineering bootloader, then your device should boot up and you'll see hboot 0.85.2007 on the second line of your bootloader. If your device doesn't boot, then I'm afraid you're screwed.

Strange brick

After an eng-off attempemt my dhd became in a strange brick situation: no turn on if I press power button but if I remove the battery for 5 minutes it turn on with a long vibration in the boot. When I power off the phone the brick condition return. Please help me
CAn you hold the volume button down and power on to get into the bootloader?
Nothing happened...Only if i remove the battery it power on. I suppose the bootloader was corrupted, you know how to reflash it?
I have also try to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 to flash another hboot, succesfully but after the reboot another brick...the phone power on only after 5 minute battery off. No solution found...
Nobody can help me? From my latest test with terminal I discover that i can't write hboot, why? Damaged? please help me
Had you achieved s-off? where and when did it all fall apart? You dont have a brick as it will respond to some input, even if it's only dragging battery out and replacing it. But I suspect the easiest root if you can't persuade it to boot at all is going to be attempting a warranty repair with HTC just play dumb.
I don't know if I have got the s-off because I can't enter in hboot, if is possible I prefer to avoid the warranty repair, in Italy they offer a very poor service (my dhd was already been sent 3 times unsuccessfully for the GPS)
if there is fastboot and you can't overwrite the bootloader you might have some issues with flashing a recovery version. You may want to try running the RUU software but i doubt this will help. I know it is difficult to kill an android but i think a corrupt boot partition might be the death of a smartphone.
When you load the battery back into the phone next time, press the power button, wait for the white screen to appear and immediately hold vol- might get you into the bootloader.

I have already tried to push the volume button in the power on but the dhd doesn't enter in bootloader.
I have tried a RUU but it give me an error, maybe an incorrect version? Can you send me a link?
I have discover that if fastboot is active I have no brick in start up, but obviously I cannot enter in recovery
adb is working but brick if a try a reboot command, is possible to use adb (without a reboot) to fix the boot?
WOW!!! after another battery pull out and 5 minutes pulling down volume dhd enter in hboot but it is stuck and doesn't react to input.........
I didn't understand, when you power it up with battery pulling, you can use it normally, or not?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
yes but i must wait 5 minutes without battery and other 5 minutes with, after this the phone power on automatically with a strange long vibration (1/2 minutes) but it is the only way that I have found
If you can get into hboot, and you issue the command fastboot devices (via terminal on your pc) does it list your DHD?
Sent from my Desire HD
if i try from pc no response, command fastboot devices get nothing and the hboot is very slowly and stuck on reboot command
If the PC sees the phone when is connected, try to run a RUU corespondent with your area http://www.filefactory.com/f/efa28fefafc4af9c/
Edit: I don't know if is the same situation but I read here that the devices shipped with Gingerbread cannot Eng S-OFF.
the pc doesen't see the dhd. could I try to flash the PD98IMG.zip with the hboot?
I could start with the hboot the zip indicated above, but then freeze the update process in step 9 "TP" what is it? The hboot indicate program firmware image

How to get out of Hboot with broken power button?

Hi guys,
So my Nexus One has suddenly become unresponsive to my touches
It'll boot up but wont respond via touch screen or trackball, so I can't unlock it or wake it after sleep.
It'll wake once plugged in.
ADB won't recognise it either.
The power button is broken, but I can get into HBoot by holding trackball (so it is working!) and putting the battery in and out.
Is there some way to go from HBoot to recovery so I can flash an old backup without the power button?
Or any other way to get into recovery?
Please don't let my baby die :'(
Thanks.
Oh and I think ADB isn't working because I have debugging disabled :X
My only current suggestion to to try to install Blackrose's hboot as you can select **** with the trackball instead of the powerbutton. From here you can boot into recovery like normal from hboot. I do not know of any command (if you can even enter any in) to reboot straight to recovery, my bad. But you say trackball is not working?
Can use the trackball to enter HBoot so it is working. It's just that neither the screen or the trackball work once the phone has booted up and at the lock screen.
Is there some .zip I can place on the SD card and then boot into HBoot which will automatically run and either take me to Recovery or factory reset?
EDIT: since the power button is broken I can't select any options in Hboot, only scroll through them using the volume keys.
Alright, I thought I had read this.
Going to try the passimg.zip trick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...des_&_Tutorials#Unroot_.2F_Restore_your_Nexus
Sweet that worked
Now have Froyo (brings back the memories...) Now to try a Nandroid back up.
Edit: Ok so that passimg.zip DOES unroot the phone too, so going to start the rooting process again.

[Q] which bootloader do i have...

Any easy way to tell?
IF you never update it, I'd say HC (older 1)..If you ever updated to ICS thru OTA update (then you'd have ICS LOCKED Bootloader.
You'd have to manually add ICS UNLOCKED Bootloader to have it.. IF you flashed roms in old days of HC, then u might have UNLOCKED HC Bootloader.
When I load up my tablet that i added it myself, it says Skrilax Cz's bootloader (it is ICS UNLOCKED Bootloader.)
you can run a few programs will tell as well...
Google this... Acer A500 Afterota Lite v1.09 (after running. it will say something like , do you want to save file..it saves info to a .txt file and will say.
maybe this... Acer A500 Manager 1.1 (blackthund3r)
Make sure there is no sd card in the slot.
1. Hold the tablet in landscape.
2. Make sure the switch next to the volume is at the left position.
3. Hold volume up (right side)
4. Push and hold power for 3 seconds while still holding the volume button from step 3
5. After releasing power and still holding volume, a soon as the tablet vibrates, quickly switch the switch next to the volume rocker back and forth.
6. If you did it right, it will show you the bootloader version number
Good luck

[Q] safe mode, getting to fastboot, and returning to stock

I'm having reral trouble gettng my n4 into fastboot. all the buttons work, vol up, vol down and the power on all work fine but if I try and press all 3 simultaneously I just boot the device normally. I've managed to get to fast boot just once in 2 dozen tries. what is the trick? I've tried pushing all 3 at once, I've tied pressing both vol up and down, holding thm, then pressing and holding the power button too. always just vibrates, and boots normally.
just now while trying on the last attempt it booted normally but the screen had 'safe mode' in the bottom left corner. that freaked me a bit. turned it off, then on again and it went away. wtf is 'safe mode' and how did I get it?
I want to...I think...root and flash a rom the proper way, step by step using efrant's guide on here, rather than a script from the toolkit, but since I can't seem to get to fastboot I'm stuck
this is all just to get to 4.3 really....I rooted using the toolkit and OTA updates haven't been running so still on 4.2.1 and thought I should sort that out. had a bit of a 'mare l2 nights agot when I unlocked the bootloader to go about returning to stock and forgot that would wipe the device...losing lat weeks holiday photos in the process I think the tool kit and one press type 'unlock, flash this, flash that etc etc' commands lulled me into not thinking for myself so perhaps I ought to do this properly!
BTW, I'm currently with a locked bootloader, stock 4.2.1 rom, stock recovery reflashed, no su binary (cinfirmed by attempting to run SU app, and it not finding the binary). I've been waiting for the OTA update to push to the device again (I've forced checkins but to no avail) to attempt to run it, should it run properly now or have I to do something more?
You need to hold power and volume down, if that doesn't work then try adb reboot boot loader

thanks. tried holding volume down and then also power as well and again it booted normally. looks like adb commands it is then. bit of a pain to have to hook to a pc to do this....not that I'm a regular custom rom flasher/swapping between roms and nandroid backups etc but it would be handy....I learnt that with my old desire.
has anyone else had problems getting there holding the buttons?
oh and I found what safe mode is from the google nexus 4 site. a mode where the apps don't work so you can check for problems that they may be causing. how I got to it doesn't match with the descried way though...just a weird glitch I guess.
okay I'm all sorted for now. I used the toolkit and flashed the entire set of stock .img after downloading the archive from google
now on 4.3, and as far as I can see that is with stock recovery, system, radio the lot. I've left it unrooted (so no su binary, no busy box, no su app - although the phone is currently synching and downloading my apps again..I guess this will come too) so if I understand things correctly future OTAs will run.
I've left the bootloader unlocked as efrant, in his 'how to' guide says
'Do NOT re-lock your bootloader after you are finished. The is no need. 2) Having an unlocked bootloader does not affect anything related to the ROM/GoogleWallet/OTAs. Nothing at all.' and he explains that unlocking in the future to enable fastboot commands to work and hence flash roms in the future results in a wipe of data. So...I think...I'm up to date, stock, safe and future OTAs will run....i hope. I do understand though, that should the device need to back to Google I should relock the bootloader first or they will know I've been playing around (where possibly I shouldn't!)
okay....think I can go ahead and set up again. :victory:
Ooo good! and whatever I've done I can get into the bootloader fine now :victory: simply holding vol down and then pressing and holding the power button now works every time. good.
