Okay,
I have a brand new Kindle Fire in front of me, I'm in the UK so I'm looking to switch it to CM7. The stock firmware is at 6.2 and I'm well aware that if it exceeds that I will not have access to the amazon marketplace and I will not be able to root to get full market place or flash any custom roms.
Can someone please point me in the right direction concerning how to get it rooted and on CM7 without it updating at all?
I'm using a Windows 7 x64 PC and I do not have a factory cable.
Cheers in advance
Alex

Use the kindle fire utility latest version to send a zergRush to root the device. Then, choose the TWRP option to install FIREFIREIFIRE and TWRP. Get into recovery mode and backup the system, grab the latest cm7 and flash your device with TWRP. Easy!

How's it going everyone. I just want to thank everyone for all their help and for putting up with me the past few days. I've been bugging everyone with question after question on how to root my kindle. When I first got my Kindle I knew I wanted to root it and have access to the android market and eventually flash some new roms so I hoped right over to the XDA site. When I got on the site, I was a little overwhelmed with all the information out there on what to do and how to get started. I was reading things like the Burrito root, utility, twrp, ect...
Well, I thought I'd try and help anyone who is in the same boat I was in. I was finally able to root my kindle last night with the help Jayceooi.
The steps that I took and the steps that might be easiest for people new to rooting:
I used the Kindle Fire Utility v.9.1 to root my device, install twrp (which is used if you want to back up your system, flash a rom, restore back to stock, ect.. its recommended to install), and install the android market and go launcher. My thanks goes out to the Jcase and Vashypooh.
1.) Before you try and use the KFU v.9.1 make sure you have the ADB driver installed (properly) and is running when the kindle is connected to the PC
I used Jayceooi's and adb driver file link (not the one that comes in the KFU zip) to install my driver. On his guide he states - "Why not use install driver feature in Kindle Fire Utility? There is an issue on Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.1. It will replace Kindle Fire USB Mass Storage driver. So you can’t use USB Mass Storage mode anymore if you install driver with Kindle Fire Utility." (Might be why alot of people are having problems trying to root)
2.) Once the driver is installed, then run the KFU v.9.1 and selection option 3. Hit enter and the utility does the rest.
3.) Intall TWRP - plug kindle back in and run KFU v.9.1 and selection option 5. Hit enter again and the utility will do most of the work. Make sure you read everything during the installation and wait until you hit reboot and see the yellow triangle before you press a key to continue. (watch the video in the link below and you will see what I mean.)
4.) Next I installed the android market, google apps, go launcher from the Utility too. Like i said, that utility is tits! run the utility again and select option 6 (extras) then 2 and it will do the rest.
This may be a redundant thread and get pushed out and I know a lot of the experienced guys might laugh at how lame, but If I had something like this to follow it would have really helped me out and saved alot of time. The guide that Jayceooi does is really nice and easy to follow.
I think the the installation of the correct driver is the biggest thing and what causes the most problems for people. so if you get that right, you should be in good shape. just follow the guides and it shouldn't be to hard
Step 1.) Install Kindle Fire ADB usb driver - http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/29/how-to-install-kindle-fire-adb-usb-driver-video/
Step 2.) Root kindle - http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/29/how-to-root-kindle-fire-with-burritoroot-video/
Step 3.) Install TWRP - http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/29/how-to-install-twrp-2-0-recovery-on-kindle-fire-video/

This is surely helpful for a newbie like myself
I hope it helps... from jumping from thread to thread in this forum, the biggest issue i was seeing the most was getting the correct driver to install. just make sure you get that step down and it should be pretty easy... knock on wood

This video is from the official burrito root guide in the kindle fire development section. It's a pretty easy to follow guide.

I'm not really a noob per-say, been around a good while actually. But your point in this post about the correct driver and you bringing everything together for a very easy to follow guide really did help. Thanks!
I actually had a weird issue where I wasn't seeing a yellow triangle for the ADB driver and just couldn't get root to take. Updating it did the trick (It needs to say 'Android Composite ADB Interface')
Yay! My backup just finished and I'm not stuck with a yellow sign. Success.
just got my KF today and I'll try this out tomorrow when i can get to my friends windows computer (virtualbox on my Mac doesnt like me.....)

You should be able to use the KFU to install the android market. once your plug the kindle into the pc and the driver is installed properly, run KFU v.9.1 Select option 6 (extras) then select option 2 (Google apps / go launcher) KFU should do the rest. If you want to manually downloand use this link http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...t=Click Here&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13252517466081
for some reason my Mac wont recognize my KF and my VirtualBox Windows won't either so i have to wait for a bit....
EDIT: nevermind
next issue, whenever i go into the Devices and Printers menu and then to the Kindle and into Properties, it only lists USB Composite Device. Could this be because i am trying to do this on an Windows 7 VirtualBox setup and not through a true W7 computer?

Glad it helped. Jayceooi did an awesome job. Like i said before, if you get the driver installed correctly the rest is a piece of cake

the driver was annoying cuz i tried to do it through a VirtualBox virtual machine but when i would plug it into my MacbookPro, i would have to unmount it from there and then it wouldnt recognize it properly in the Windows VM so i had to wait to get to a friends computer but it"s all good now

stuck at triangle
Got the triangle screen and following instructions in guides are not fixing it. Heres my scenario. I got my kindle with 6.2 on it. Got it rooted, installed market and go launcher and was great. Then the update of course came thru and broke root. Still been able to download market apps and use go launcher. So I followed this guide to regain root and install twrp. It says root is successful, but superuser force closes everytime trying to open or use it. I can open my tibu and root explorer and everything still gave me root access. Went and changed the MarketIntentProxy.apk to MarketIntentProxy.apk.bak so market links go to market by default. That worked. Noticed that all amazon apps downloaded have a default amazon icon. Thought nothing of it. Went to install twrp anyway. Stuck at triangle now. Followed all instructions to fix and the KFU keeps flashing error device not found constantly and device status unknown. What happened?
Prior to 6.2.1 I had my Kindle Fire rooted with super one click. It seems like the Kindle Fire utility is the method of choice today. I would like to know if there is anything special I need to do to remove superoneclick and/or drivers before installing KFU. I'm trying to be a bit cautious here since the frequency of bricking seems to have gone up.
I was lucky that the 6.2.1 upgrade did not mess up my android market or google install – I had already upgraded to the latest version prior to the install. I would like to regain root, but I'm willing to go slow since my KF is currently rock solid and I don't really have any pressing need.
Thanks
Bruce
I didnt have any issues switching from one-click to KFU. it ran fine with the drivers i installed to use one-click. I did have one issue after installing the 6.2.1 udate and FFFm I had to reinstall the KF drivers after I updated (my windows box no longer recognized it and it got stuck in the wrong boot mode which was easy to fix from command line once it was recognized again).

As far as I know SuperOneClick never installed anything on your Fire. It sounds like you are using a stock un-rooted 6.2.1 so you'd just proceed as any normal 6.2.1 user would. I, myself, rooted back in 6.2 with SuperOneClick and have been ever since because I installed TWRP and used the pre-rooted 6.2.1 image. I'm kind of curious if there's anything I need to know as well, though. I'd rather err on the side of caution as well.

nothing more that SU, but you do have to get ADB running which requires having the android SDK usb driver to connect to the fire instead of whatever gets installed by default.
Great.. just thought I would check before I just plowed ahead as if it was a brand new 6.2.1 KF. I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but it's nice to know that I don't need to do anything unusual. I may just wait a bit to give KFU some time to mature.

I don't think KFU is going to change much now. Its been at 0.9.1 for some time how. I see the links to the original article are backup so the links should be good too.

Same here.
Hi, I am very new at this but I followed the video and was able to root my 6.2.1 fire and installed, TWRP, Superuser and MIUI. Right now I am not sure how to tell whether my fire got the latest 6.2.2 update and would appreciate some advise on this. I have tried to connect the fire up to my XP pc and am having problems getting ADB to work although I have removed rebooted, reinstalled many times, both manually and using KFU and KFU2.
Right now everything on the KF is working as it always has since the root so I am not in a huge rush to re-root if that is what I need to do, but if ICS came out tomorrow it would be nice to be able to try it. Also MIUI seems to be most for the japan market and so I don't understand a lot of it.
BBC0
If you flashed MIUI your Fire is not going to get updates from Amazon
Thanks for the response. Would that apply to ICS or any other similar flash?
Yes it does
I have rooted several android phones and my fire when fired released. Lost root a few updates ago and finally want to root so I can place ICS on it. I am on 6.3 and have tried KFU 9.4 & 9.5 of 2 different computers and it when it runs run.bat it crashes.
Attempted doing CMD way but never tried that way before and prob doing something wrong.
Please help. I also restored fire to factory condition's in case previous old roots left files that are screwing it up...
Going bonkers....Rooted my Bionic this morning in 3 mins...been working no Fire for 3 hours....
If you don't currently have TWRP 2.0 installed on your kindle fire. Go to this link and follow the steps it will tell you how to root 6.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568340

This guide requires you to have adb and fastboot working FOR THE KINDLE FIRE,
How do you do that?
I am stuck at waiting for device when using KFU 9.5 , reinstalled drivers but nothing
Make a folder on yourC drive called KindleADB. Then copy the files from the tools folder in Kindle_Fire_Utility_v0.9.5. To the KindleADB folder you just made.
Also download the REQ files in the topic link I posted. Copy those files to the KindleADB folder as well cause you will need them.
If you got the driver installed like you say you do. You can just follow the steps and root the device.
I was having a similiar problem, what I had to do was plug in my kindle, and then uninstall the drivers. Then I would unplug and then plug back in and let the drivers reinstall. I also used kindle fire utility 0.9.4
ADB and Fastboot from the Kindle Fire Utility seems a little hit or miss. My desktop doesn't run any of the .bats so I was scared to try it there. My Mac in win 7 with bootcamp worked fine.
ADB and Fastboot were much easier to get working in OS X 10.7 and Linux.
When Kindle Fire Utility failed the first time I switch to OS X and did jcase's method to get root and install TWRP then i just flashed a custom rom.

Hello everyone. Couple months back someone at work asked me if I could put android on the kindle fire hd 7. I dont recall which article I followed but do remember using fireflash to get twrp installed and got the device rooted. Originally I would try to flash a rom and it would hang at bootup with a google logo with gears. So being that this device is a bit more tricky then my original kindle fire to install roms on I had the person go out and purchase the fastboot cable. So here I am stuck at what to do next. I go thru the steps wipe cache etc. Install from zip and as soon as I do this failed pops up. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction as to why this is happening and what to do to resolve this and get jelly bean installed. I am attaching screenshots. If I can get this to work I need to do my parents kindle. Thanks in advance for any help.
Ok one. You got the wrong rom, two. you need kindle fire hd not kindle fire 2 if you can get it thru adb perfect if not return to stock and reflash. I'd personally use Kindle fire first Aide, seeing you got fastboot cable

Thanks..Im still new at this kindle fire hd. Can you link me to a rom for the kindle fire hd. I am unsure what you mean by getting it thru adb. Also how do I go back to stock, or use fire first aide. Sorry for the lack of knowledge any help is greatly appreciated.
Not that it matters that much but I thought I would mention that's not the newest version of twrp available for the kfhd, and the newest version only takes about 10 seconds to get into instead of a full minute.
Here's a link to cm 10.1 for kfhd7, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245335
If you are interested in updating twrp, its really easy, u flash it like u would a ROM in twrp. Here's a link to hashcodes thread that tells about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2218796
Also thought I would ask to make sure, but since I saw the last photo I am assuming you can still boot into your stock amazon os? If you can that makes this a lot easier since you can either download the files from the kindles web browser or transfer them over to kindle from PC easily.
However, if you can't boot into stock os, u can use the adb sideload command to push the ROM onto the device, I think kffa may have something in it that does this for you, I haven't ever had to use it though so I am unsure. Hope this helps!

Sorry for the questions but I downloaded the newer twrp and then followed the instructions below and soon as I swiped it to flash it just failed. Is there other way to update twrp? I figured that the easiest way was to follow the directions below.
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
While the ORANGE logo is showing on the screen, press and hold the volume up button till the BLUE logo shows. (This is the button farther away from the power button)
Select "Install"
Navigate to where you placed the file on your device
Select the .zip filename
Swipe to confirm flash
Reboot
