Cannot install gapps on CM7.1 - Fascinate General

I have a Samsung Fascinate, it was just updated to Gingerbread.
I followed the instructions here:
h t t p:// wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Fascinate:_Full_Update_Guide
I downloaded heimdall, downloaded the clockworkmod tar, I untar, then I flashed the recovery.bin to it in Download Mode with heimdall.
Then I boot up into cwm, select my fascinate cm7.1 zip file. It reboots after about 3 seconds, and it boots up, looks like it's in cwm, and takes about 30-45 seconds, then it reboots on its own. Then it shows the cyanogenmod animation, and then it boots up.
It was my first time booting cyanogenmod. Then I remembered I hadn't installed the gapps. So I reboot into cwm, and then I install from zip, and choose 'gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip' so there's no errors whatsoever, and I reboot.. and I look for the Market.. and it is not there. And neither is Gmail, or anything else. It looks as if I didn't do anything after installing cm7.
I tried this twice already.. I tried downloading it in the Rom Manager, but rom manager doesn't work.
I really want to have the market and stuff..what should I do?
[edit]ok, I tried some stuff, like factory reset, and then flashing gapps, and I also installed a different version of cwm, and then it started working![/edit]

I had the same issue. so I installed rom manager and installed 3.0.2.5 from within the app. then I booted into recovery from within the app. I then flashed BRD's 3.0.2.8 flashable zip. now I have no issue getting into recovery.

[Q] installing a new rom

Hello, i own two vega. I bought one of the with cm7 installed, i exchanged several roms [corvus, cm7, different nightly] always with rom manager or from clockwork recovery. Never had a problem.
Bought a second vega with modaco r8 installed. Installed last rom manager, installed throught it the last recovery, downloaded the corvus image [checked hash, correct] and finally choose to flash with a full wipe, erased cache ect ect. Device rebooted, screen black. After 5 mins i pushed the power button, device turned on [screen backlight was on] but nothing else. Everything black.
Downloaded the official firmware 1.10, connected the vega to the pc and restored stock 1.10. Got root access with z4root, installed the market, downloaded rom manager, installed tfhe last recovery image. Rebooted in recovery and manually wiped and erased the caches. Installed tghe corvus. All processes went ok. Rebooted and once again black screen, not able to boot in recovery and not able to boot in corvus. Had to go back once again to stock 1.10
Whats wrong? Do i miss something?

no boot, no recovery mod after kernel upgrade via Rom Manager

Hello,
my phone was working like a charm with cm 7.1 , Siyah Kernel, clockworkmod recovery mod 5.0.2.
I decided to upgrade my Siyah Kernel from 2.0 beta 8 to v2.
I used the QR code from Xda forum. Phone downloaded kernel, then once download finished, opened Rom Manager app, then invite me to install the new .zip file.
I usually do it manually, in rebooting in recovery and installing the .zip file in recovery mod, but I wanted to try this way.
Now my phone doesn't boot, hanf on on Samsung logo. No recovery mod available, only download mod.
Tried to reinstall ClockworkMode recovery 5 with Odin, but nothing happens. The yelow box stays yellow, and message hans on at Setup connection.
I alos tried to flash P-SBL.tar with odin, but it failed.
So, what can I do??
EDIT : Issue solved. Retried with Odin and ClockworkMod. This time I booted in recovery, phone booted in it and installed new kernel, and the booted in cm 7.1. I do think this issue came from Rom Manager.
So far as i know, using rom manager with the S2 is a mistake.
The S2 dosnt like rom manager much, and it can end up in a lot of problems up to a semi bricked phone.
Glad you solved it , but i recommend to avoid rom manager for now

A500 recovery stuck "loading recovery kernel image"

Hi awesome XDA dudes
I've searched the forums, and even posted in the basic QA section to no avail. I may have just missed it somewhere, but here is the issue.
Tablet will work fine in Lightspeed 4.8 ROM. No issue there. But, when I try to get into the recovery (power and volume down) I get "booting recovery kernel image," forever.
I recently changed from the Clockwork to TWRP recovery and that is when the recovery function would no longer load.
How can I get back to Clockwork or smililar so that I can put a different ROM on my tab?
Thanks in advance!
Tom
Fixed this problem, only to find another.
So, since my tablet would still function normally (aside from recovery) I downloaded the Acer Recovery Installer App. And this did what everything else failed to do. It installed Clockwork Mod and I was actually able to get into the recovery. Whew!
So I went to install Flex shockwave ROM but the install froze at the Aroma 2.56 stage...forever. Tried again unsuccessfully and gave up. I did properly wipe and format beforehand. I then tried installing CM10 Rom, same exact problem.
So, I used Acer Recovery installer and loaded the TWRP recovery. Here is where things get interesting. I booted into recovery, wiped data and caches, and tried to install the aforementioned ROMs. Each time, Aroma installer worked fine and I was presented with all the install options, all the bells and whistles. After completing my selections, I was prompted to reboot.....
And each time the tablet hangs on the Acer spalsh screen.
So now my problem is reversed. I have access to recovery, but no ROM. :crying:

Ok, so I had a working ROM but my recovery was fried. So, using Acer Recovery Installer I was able to get a working recovery going.
Then the next problem was that I could not get CM10 to install. When I realized I needed to flash the bootloader (and yes fellow noobs this is different than the recovery) I was unsuccessful.
I tried the automated route using the Blackthund3r app, but the process would just hang at Entering bootloader.
I tried the manual NVFlash route provided by Dibbs and it would get past this point and then hang.
So Dibbs (thanks dude) helped me out via email and suggested I download babsector.rar
After I extracted the rar file, I saw the A501 A.bat file and flashed it. This provided me with hope as it flashed the tablet and the screen atcually read "PASS." But, I wasn't done yet as I still could not install CM10. So, back to APX mode and back into the babsector rar folder. I flashed the Tab with A501 B.bat and followed that immediately with flashing the v8.bat file. In the V8.bet file I chose the Thor 1.7.3 recovery (as suggested by Dibbs and others) and WOOHOOO.....PASS on the tablet again.
Feeling ever more confident, I booted into recovery and flashed the CM10 Rom....SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are having trouble....don't give up. Thanks again for the help to Dibbs and OKAstro!!

Stuck on "Google" screen

To avoid a novel, I'll just the list the steps I did. I had an ancient version of clockwork and paranoid android rom on my N7, not sure what version and I wanted to get Cyanogenmod 10.2.1 on there along with TWRP.
1. Downloaded TWRP from playstore, installed under paranoid rom, also downloaded CM on SD
2. Used TWRP under paranoid rom to install CM and Gapps
3. TWRP rebooted N7, old version of clockwork showed up instead of TWRP
4. Flashed CM, it worked
5. Installed RomManager, updated to newest stable CM update, installed it, rebooted
6. Once rebooted, playstore and rom manager crashes all the time
7. Hold down Vol Down while booting brought me to fastboot
8. If I select recovery mode, it gets stuck on google screen
9. Tried to push latest CWM via fastboot, it says it pushed it, but I'm still stuck on google screen. It does get back in to the OS still, but playstore crashes.
I don't care if I have to install CWM or TWRP, I just want to get it out of this state. Any ideas?
Nevermind all that, pushed TWRP instead of CMW via fastboot and it worked.
