Honeycomb Web browser vs. ICS web browser..? - Acer Iconia A500

Hi
What is the difference between the web browser in Honeycomb and ICS??
I hear that there is actually a HUGE improvement in the ICS web browser from the Honeycomb one, but I would like to know what kind of difference it will make.
Thank you!

From my experience:
The UI looks pretty much the same, some minor changes in the menu but I don't think I would be able to tell them apart (I'm sure there's plenty of people on xda that disagrees on that one though).
To me the biggest difference is the speed, it feels a lot quicker and generally works really well. Sorry I can't provide you with technical details but at least this is how I experience it.

i definitely felt it was much faster as well. Main feature I like is the shortcut menu that pops up when you slide your finger from one side inward (has to be enabled in settings first). Here's a thread with the d/l.

I have always had that menu on mine, even on 3.1/3.2. You just have to enable it under labs in the browser settings.

Do the HD2 tabs transition like this commercial?

I was looking at this t-mobile HD2 commercial and noticed that the tab transition from the contacts tab to the home tab was very much like the senseUI transition on android devices. It's smooth and doesn't just instantaneously jump. Is this real, or is it just a gimmick? Because mines obviously doesn't transition like that at all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DogVofsUHHQ&feature=player_embedded
Of course its not going to be like the commercial, nothing ever is.
I wish it looked like that
Short of looking great it does do that though. Swiping to the right will take you to the panel to the left and vice versa.

So are you guys telling me that this transisiont we see is not real for sense 2.5 2 on WM6.5?
In the commercial it is written "SCREEN SEQUENCE COMPRESSED AND SIMULATED" so ... !!!
Yeah, transition is ... probably... fake !
Like mabold said, the screen is simulated on the commercial but in real life, it's much faster to the point where you dont see the scrolling animation at all (which I prefer).
No, it doesn't do that. It never has done that and never will. Also, it's not "much faster to the point where you dont see the scrolling animation". It just doesn't do it.

New MIREN Browser is FASSSST!

Just sayin:
http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/11/m...intuitive-browsing-experience-to-htc-evo.html
** My favorite parts:
1) Doesn't show the page until it is fully loaded and ready to view top to bottom.
2) Instantaeous back/forward - no waiting while pages reload.
3) Zero screen lag while scrolling.
4) Clean iPhonish interface (which I personally have always liked).
5) Very intuitive. Stuff is where you expect it to be and works like you expect it to work.
Did I mention it's fast?
** The ultimate test - I just loaded www.redskins.com. This website has always absolutely destroyed every other browser I have tried - usually just giving up 20 seconds after clicking the link. Miren loaded this ready to go in 5 seconds.
Update >> 6) Saves your spot on your bookmark list so that when you go back to it, you can see where you left off instead of starting again at the top. This is something I always liked about Dolphin.
Nice thanks.. trying it nao
Seems to be a lot of browsers floating around. It's hard to stick with one when I keep trying out new ones and they all seem to have some perks.
On to try this one out
It is blazing. these chinese devs know what they doin. Tnx again for sharing.. Hope they add skins soon

Yep. It's almost funny. I guess I am used to pages taking a certain amount of time to load then being kind of jerky as you scroll through them - especially if the page isn't 100% done loading.
Anyway, first webpage I opened with this actually kind of made my head jerk back like damn, that was quick. Then I noticed how smooth the scrolling was and I was in love.
When you double tap the screen it transitions very quickly from overview to close-up - again without the stuttering your get in other browsers. Its kind of like they took the best bits of Opera, Dolphin and Stock Browser and mashed 'em up.
** Oh yeah, another thing I like. When you open a bookmark, if you go back to the bookmark list from the webpage, it "saves" your spot and doesn't take you back to the top of the list. I like this because I often like to go through my favorite links one by one and hate having to start from the top again every time.
Going to test it out..thanks.
It just became my new default browser, buh bye Dolphin
Just tried it and didn't seem any faster than the stock browser

No doubt its the fastest ive used thus far... but no mobile view? I hate scrolling from side to side when im looking at a webpage.

Agreed but I think the speed more than makes up for side scrolling.

An alternative would be just to double tap screen. It quickly goes to overview mode. Then double tap the place you want to read and it zooms in. It's pretty quick doing this - sort of like Opera.
I use XScpe and I tried this just now, I'm keeping XScope. Others should try it as well. BTW Dolphin HD the slowest browser out there, even slower than the stock browser, only tooted for it's abilities for themes, plugins, settings, etc, no big deal, I think speed is way more important on 3G.

I prefer this over xScope simply because I like the UI better. xScope is fast but when you scroll webpages it has a tendency to stutter. This does not. One of the reasons xScope is fast is that it has no overhead, even bookmarks are rendered in html; however, if you want your browser to be fast and pretty, I recommend this

I've noticed scrolling is laggy but I only notice it when I zoom through a website, so the lagginess doesn't really matter to me since I'm not trying to read anything obviously and I'm still able to make out pictures and certain texts. I like that it's a lightweight browser, it loads quickly and does not have so many bells and whistles.
Q.Does Miren have the option to render a page before it's fully loaded, I don't like that it doesn't?
Isn't this the MIUI browser?
Very well designed but I don't like the clashing look with stock Android. WAY too iOS like. I might make a Android themed version.

Similarity to iOS is purely a matter of personal taste. Some like it and some don't. An Android skin would be quite popular I'm sure ;-)
One other thing I noticed that I like is that you can arrange your bookmarks into folders - yay!
One odd bug I noticed that is probably the result of this being translated from Chinese. All the folders are listed in REVERSE alphabetical order.

Ah just found out where it has a setting for mobile web page browser. You need to adjust "bandwidth-saving mode" in settings.

Some pages were cruising some were sluggish as all hell. Been messing with it but can't tell if I really like it. Am so used to the layout of Dolphin. Some claim its slow but no other ones feel "faster."
I did like the instantaneous forward / back loading of pages though.

Hulu is kind of sluggish, but everything runs real smoooth.

I think what you are interpreting as sluggishness is just a different way this browser loads pages.
Most browsers load pages a piece at a time. Because of this, the page "looks" like it is loading fast because you see the page even though it is not usable yet.
With this browser it only shows you the page once it is fully loaded, thus it may appear on occasion that it is slower.
I prefer the wait-till-its-ready method.

Non sticky scrolling in the browser ruins browsing experience

I brought this issue up a few times already but either people dont care or dont notice it. For me this issue is a real dealbreaker and im very sad it made its way into ICS.
The problem I'm talking about is not the slower scrolling many people complain about! I'll try to explain the issue as good as possible and hope more people notice it and maybe find a workaround..
It started with xila2 (not sure about the ICS leaks as i didn't care much fir them) they changed the way scrolling behaves, it did feel smoother but messed up vertical scrolling in some apps but most noticable in the browser.
All versions before xila2 like kk5 would let you LOCK ON to text in the browser so if you scroll vertically it will NOT wobble left and right it would kinda stick to the text and you can flick up and down and dont have to worry about flicking perfectly straight. This made browsing extremely comfortable and fun.
Since xila2 they changed all that and it also made its way into the official ICS rom. Now it will NOT lock on the text anymore and when you doubletap a text and scroll, it will wobble around left and right. Also if you flick vertically now it will most likely bump into the left or right side. There is no option to change that in the browser and sadly 3rd party browsers behave the same so its probably in the code? Chrome does seem slightly better but lags and isnt as polished so its not an option..
This issue is driving me nuts and really destroys the browsing experience that used to be the best on any smartphone out there...
Whats more I really dont know why there are not more people complaining about this.. Anyway I really hope there is a way around this because I really like ICS especially the nova launcher..

AOSP-like browser

Hi i want to ask you if you know good browser with flash support. I want it to be as much as similiar to aosp browser. And yes i know i can root and install it, but on nexus device i dont want to ( i know hoe to root, i have galaxy ace and i'm running cm10 jellybean). I found naked browser, but the design is very poor. Thanks in advance

Never tried AOSP, but if you can't "duplicate" it with ssLauncher, there's probably nothing close.
edit: LOL, sorry got "Launcher" and "Browser" confused... Boat works for me.
Eh i'm looking for an app not a launcher. Btw. I don't think that this launcher will magically convert chrome into AOSP browser
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You might try the "naked browser" from the playstore. It works well on my N7 and does not need root.Very smooth and has a full screen mode that crome lacks.I have used asop since I am rooted but prefer the naked browser best.It is set up to load flash on demand and t sppeds up loading pages that have a bunch of flash content you don't want to see anyway.

Do you mind sharing exactly what aspect(s) of Naked Browser's design that you found to be poor?
Yes i tried it. It's very smooth and fast, and i really like the fullscreen mode, but the icon could be better (it's not a deal breaker) and the icons in the bottom panel (settings,refresh- the upper row) could be a bit bigger. When i open new tab i would like to see my bookmarks with thumbnails. And also when i open the new tab i have to slide down a bit to see domain, weather, film review, because it's covered by open tabs. Anyway it's a good browser, better than google chrome

Thank you for responding. It's OK if Naked Browser is not for you. It's just another choice that I want people to know about.
Let me express my position. I made Naked Browser in response to the privacy violations of most browsers out there. All along I focused on speed, stability, and features rather than user interface. I made the icon in 3 minutes from memory. Some people like it. If they don't it is easily changed in some launchers. In others, if you search for "change icon" in the Google Play Store then apps can change the icon. A few people have been telling me to reduce the height of the bottom menu but you are the first to say that it is too small. The start page does not have thumbnails because it is designed to show as much information as possible in a small space as quickly as possible. The "slide down" on new tab is something that may take getting used to. In the end, I believe that the behavior of the Naked Browser menus is more efficient than any other browser that I've tried. Naked Browser has been out for less than 2 months so things may change.
Anyway, I'm posting this information for anyone that cares. You can find Naked Browser here in the Google Play Store.
Naked Browser is not for profit. Please do not try it if you don't want to.

[app]naked browser

Despite whatever impressions you may
have gotten from the title, we’re here to
look at a web browser; sorry to
disappoint you. The browser in question
has been developed by XDA Forum
Member aminaked because in his own
words, “I was fed up with the privacy
violations , bloat, instability, and general
stupid functionality of Android browsers.
I decided to make my own.”
The browser itself is pretty minimal, but
contains all the core functionality that
you’ll need to navigate your way around
the net. The primary focus of the
developer has been speed, efficiency,
privacy, and keeping the application as
streamlined as possible. Weighing in at
only 95 KB, I’d say he’s done a pretty
good job. There are no superfluous
functions or bloat of any kind, and you
aren’t even expected to put up with ads.
Features of the browser include:
Crash restore
Undo the closing of a tab
One finger zoom
Infinite tabs
Now before you check out this app, be
warned: Keeping things this small and
fast has a price—eye candy.
Aminaked openly admits that, “I prefer it
to look crappy but run great. Later it can
look and run great.” The general
feedback does indeed seem to be that
this browser is very fast and efficient.
However if you like your apps to look the
part, you may want to give this one a
little time to mature, as it’s currently in a
very early stage of development.

I'll check it out. I've been using dolphin browser mini (black edition) for quite some time, maybe this one will eventually be a replacment. I'll edit this post with what I like/dislike.
*Edit*
Likes: smooth, fast, stable. Minimalist.
- loads pages quickly
- saves passwords, history, cookies if you want it to
- plenty of security type features to play around with
- hides the top menu but not the status bar (me likey)
Dislikes:
- some places I'd like to see more style/color ( I know it's early in development, I'm just putting this here for the future updates)
- the selected tab you're currently viewing will close if you touch it
Great browser for those minimalists out there
