I'm on (or was) Gingerbread "ota" (second leak), and trying to sbf back to 2.340.
Using 2.340 SBF, on RSD lite 4.8, I get the error:
Failed flashing process. Phone[0000]: Error getting subscriber unit checksum. Device API Error: 0xE003003F. Command: RQRCS (0xE403203F); phone connected
Also, I cannot boot into the recovery.
Please help.
Other possibly relevant info:
Windows XP
RSD LIte 4.8
Not rooted (on GB)
Battery pull, only results in loading up the bootloader again (without pressing any buttons)
Bootloader says:
BOOTLOADER

Code Corrupt
re-download the SBF file (or check the checksum). Attempt to reflash again.
Will Re-Download SBF, however I've used this SBF before successfully.
I'm also now downloading RSD 4.9 rather than 4.8.
found this: Do a battery pull...then hold the home button and power at the same time to get into recovery. Press the search button, and use the volume button to select factory reset. Let it do it's thing, and select reboot system now...after that, it should boot.

I stated in my OP, that I cannot get into recovery. I know how to, but I cannot.
UPDATE:
Did all that was stated above, and was able to SBF.
However, once the SBF got to the rebooting process, it remained in a bootloop.
I am able to get into recovery now. And I did a factory wipe.
Still in bootloop.
SUggestions?
Pull battery...hold volume up and down then power....after about 3 seconds your phone will load up a black screen with white font and other stuff( debugging mode).... then plug usb to pc....load up rsd lite and flash sbf... if bootloops simply boot into recovery and wipe data... i had the same problem as you and this is how i fixed it....

If you read my above post, I said that I did basically exactly what you just said. Im still in bootloops.
Oh sorry i thought that person mentioned holding the power button instead of the volume buttons... did you try rebooting your pc before using rsd again? If that doesnt work maybe try uninstalling drivers and rsd then reinstalling again.

I joined the party late. Yea cwm sometimes wipes like a dirty person. I would always recommend doing it a few times when switching roms or in your case. It can't hurt the phone and sometimes the first wipe doesn't work.
im having the same problem!!!
except im STUCK on the
home+volume up+power screen
i used the same sbf i did the first time from the leaked gb and it worked fine
and well i downloaded nightlies to get liberty on my phone, and i wasnt a big fan of the text msg layout so i tried to clockwork mod (flash) into the deoxed gb but i still had a liberty boot and i thought nothing of it so i continued on and the phone worked fine itll it said gbkeyboard failed and i couldnt do anything!
so i turned it off and when i turned it back on flashwork was on!!! so i flashed the gb leak without root (the first one) and then i wanted root so i did the sbf but this time it said fail and my screen said it was still installing so i pulled the usb and the phone still said installing
so i battery pulled and my phone said code corrupted
so i tried the sbf back x3 still getting the same fail then i got to the part im at now,
code corrupted
battery low
cannot program
i left it on the charger for like an hour and its still "low"
am i soft bricked or hard?

the low battery keeps it from being able to sbf (which is good because if it dies during an sbf, you are hard bricked. Since i am too lazy to type out full instructions, here is a quote from sysadmin x's guide
IF YOUR PHONE DIES DURING SBF
How to Fix
One thing that you may notice is that when you have this error, your phone will not charge the battery and you'll only be able to see the screen turn on if its plugged into the wall. Somewhere on the screen it will say "Your Battery is Low" and "Cannot Reprogram" or something like that. The easiest way to get through this is to find a friend with a charged battery or go to your local Verizon store and see if they have a demo phone they can use to charge your battery. If you're like me though you will not be lucky in any sense like this so you will have to find the MacGyver inside of you and get a little creative. What you need for this is an old USB cord. One end must be a standard USB cable head and the other can pretty much be anything. Once you have that, follow these steps:
NOTE: I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE DONE TO ANY PHONE, BATTERY, ETC. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WITH CAUTION TO AVOID RISK OF DAMAGE.
1. Take your cable and cut off one of the ends, leaving a standard USB plug at the opposite end to plug into your computer.
2. Now you need to strip about and inch of the wire off until you get to the core where you should see 4 colored wires (red, black, white, and green). The colors don't really matter and they may vary, just as long as you can see a red wire and a black wire.
3. Strip off about a quarter inch of the rubber sleeving on the red and black cables, exposing the actual metal wire.
4. Twist the metal strands of each of the wires a couple of times so that all of the wires from the black cable are together and all of the wires from the red cable are together. This is just to make sure that you don't create a short circuit.
5. Here's where it gets a little tricky. You are going to use this cable to make the phone think the battery is fully charged, when in fact you will just be powering the phone using the power from the USB port. Pull out the battery on your phone and find the 4 exposed metal slots (the battery terminals).
6. Each of the far terminals should be labeled with a plus (+) or a minus (-). What you need to do is put exposed leads on the red wire up to the positive terminal and the leads of the black wire up to the negative terminal.
7. While still holding the leads on their respective terminals, slide the battery back into place in the phone. MAKE SURE THE WIRES ARE NOT TOUCHING WHEN YOU PUT THE BATTERY INTO THE PHONE! BAD THINGS COULD HAPPEN ONCE YOU PLUG THE CORD INTO THE COMPUTER!
Note: As tested by parm289, you can skip step 7 and just use the cable to charge the battery if you'd like. He recommends allowing it to charge for 6-7 minutes before placing it back into the phone. Thanks parm!
8. Once the battery is in place and the wires are on the correct terminals but not touching each other, plug the USB cord into the computer. If all has gone as it should, the screen on your phone should come on (may have to press the power button) and the phone should be telling you that the battery charge is okay and that it is okay to program. YAY! Your phone is almost back to normal!
9. Go back up to the previous section in this post that tells you how to reflash the .sbf and follow all of the instructions there. Once that has finished flashing the .sbf to your phone, your phone should be back to working order! You will most likely have to redo the entire setup on your phone but at least your phone is no longer a fancy paperweight

Borrow someone's droid x battery, or their phone to charge yours. that's gonna be alot easier than trying to strip the wires down. Also, check with p3droid (team black hat) they've been working on some fancy usb cables that will charge and flash.
thats exactly what the quote said, the numbers were there in case you cant get a charged battery. a last resort besides cutting the cable, you can go to verizon and ask to borrow a show floor battery, and give em yours so you can sbf. verizon is usually pretty nice
wow!!! thanks!
...but
now rsd says flashing failed
and the phone says its still installing
=/
I know the feeling! I have tried getiing into recovery from rooted GB usually just have to battery pull but have had to SBF for the 6th time. GB is great I benchmarked 2144 with Quadrant. Glad you fixed your phone.
And to think I went to Verizon and they wanted to send it to Motorola which they warned might charge me $300...
They also look at the battery to see if there's water damage... so this means you can just get a different battery and voila no water damage...
maybe if i use a different computer???
best part in all this i lost internet connection at home for a week

I tried to flash a custom rom to a defy, but after flashing i got a bootloop.. After that i have tried everything to get a normal working installation but everything failed.
Now i am stuck with a phone that does not want to boot and even cannot get into the bootloader... So i cannot flash using RSD Lite.
Is there another way to unbrick this phone? Or is it end of story?
can you enter on CWM??

1) Remove battery
2) Plug phone to PC
3) launch rsdlite (make sure rsdlite driver's is already working properly)
4) Press power and vol+ , and insert battery.
5) Defy screen might still blank but rsdlite would show status connected.
6) flash back your default sbf
7) boot into stock recovery and do factory reset.
8) reboot.
Note: if your defy is in full flash over gingerbread sbf, you're in trouble. Flash again any gingerbread sbf might help for quick resurrection. If your defy is in froyo, try flashing only froyo, otherwise if you're desperate, gingerbread sbf would help. You're warned for no possibility of downgrade.
Note 2: Battery must at least 80% and above to safely flashing and recovering process.

Your battery is fully loaded?
What happens when you plug in the loader (powercord with adapter in AC plug) when phone is off, is there a battery loading icon appearing?

If there is no white led or anything im afraind you have to send it for repair.
In the Netherlands i have a very good experience with:

Last thing you can try is to turn the phone on with vol down but i think you have allready tried that.

I have the same problem. I come from 2ndinit cm10 and wanted to revert back to cm7.2 but my defy failed to boot. After that I flashed FIXED.French.3.4.2-164.RETAIL.sbf
I hoped that might flash the kernel (home, back buttons were dark due to cm10). I got the red M back and a bootloop.
So I tried some sbf's I had on my hdd. Now the battery is at 3,3v and rsd lite doesn't get the phone. When I apply 5v (like the McGyver hack) the voltage drops to about 4v because the battery is being charged (dangerously I know).
Anyway rsd lite sees my defy again, I am able to flash. But when it should reboot, rsd sais PASS and the screen stays dark.
Connecting usb causes the charging led go on.
How can I bring the device back to life?
Thanks
Dennis

I had this problem, try different sbf's. The first 2-3 that I tried which gave me a blank screen were too old (from 2010) and the last one was from 2011 which was successful. Try with sbf from 2011.
Do you still know what sbf's you have tried and which one did it's job?
Thank's for your answer though!

i had same case, blank screen.
even no bootloader text.
with charger i got white led.
then connected it to pc and RSD found it,
then flashed with this instruction:
there is some kind special fixed SBF on the link
[GUIDE] All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide
Method 2: (BIG thanks to Jebrew again for this one)
NOTE: You are going to need CM7 for this one. CM7 Stable version recommended.
Download this SBF and Flash it.
Root your phone.
Download 2nd Init 1.4.2 and Install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Reboot to CMW recovery, and wipe Data/Cache.
Install CM7 then install Google Apps.
Reboot an go into Stock Recovery (using the vol- button, not from Bootmenu).
Do a Data/Cache Wipe or you won't have any space when you're done.
Flash this Fixed SBF
Reboot into your nice new rom.
Do not Wipe Data anymore or you will have to start again.
You WONT be able to install full SBFs of any Éclair or Froyo since these Androids have lower CG Versions.

Did you try also this special fixed JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf from this guide ?
battery should not be low, otherwise RSD would not connect.
but if, then MacGyver power supply trick.
Yes, I took this sbf. Battery is ok. RSD lite is able to flash.
But when the phone should reboot, the screen stays black and the phone connects to RSD lite saying finished, pass.
Sorry if the answer is out there but I can't find it.
Here is the status of my Defy:
Tried flashing SBF with RSDlite after my recovery stopped working- install of twrp had problems- tried install new recovery- tried factory reset... and I got stuck in a bootloop.
Now RSD says "PASS", but phone wont boot. Tried taking battery out with power & volume buttons pushed, but it wont even enter that black screen bootloader.
I've tried flashing SBF again, no luck.
What can I do?
Keep trying to flash different SBF via RSD despite not getting into bootloader?
EDIT: Now not even charging light coming on even when hooked up macgyver
are you using the right kernel versions??? I flashed with a 231 version without knowing you cannot downgrade once you go higher so If I try to flash anything lower I get a error at boot or it just wont boot at all like you say. If you can try to flash the version you had on there before your problems then that would be the way to go. Or if you have tried to flash a higher version threw RSD lite then you will have to try that.
RSD lite should boot the phone for you if everything went well. I got a defy + so cant comment what SBF to flash.

if you are getting no boot what so ever try flashing a fixed sbf and starting all over again? 1.Download this SBF and Flash it

4.Download and install this Nandroid Backup << FILE DOWN, please if you happen to have this file PM me>>

i was running ICS CM9 on a froyo kernel...
or you can always try this way http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618718 ??
thanks but i've been to those threads before I posted this.
RSDlite DOES NOT recognise my phone anymore after the two failed sbf flashes, and I now cannot access bootloader.
the only sign i have that anything is working is the white charging led (and thats only on usb not on charger).
is it completely screwed???
no its never screwed. You may of ran your battery flat. Search for the method to use a old USB cable and cut the end off that plugs into a device and use the red and black wires and put the red on positive and the black on the negative of your battery terminals then slide the battery in to hold the wires in place.
When you boot the phone hold down the volume up button so it goes into bootloader. Its a matter of finding the right SBF file, You may need to flash a higher version then you where using its not ideal but if it saves you from buying another phone it will be worth it.
The highest is 231 but you have to flash 2 more SBF ontop to get it to root as you cannot root it apart from using the pre rooted SBF files.
here is a list of SBF files you surly could get one to work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
It may take you a few goes but something will work, try to flash a lower version then work your way up.
tried macgyver it, got it to show up in rsd so tried flash despite not getting into bootloader. RSD says PASS, but still can't boot.
charging light isn't showing either now, but the computer recognises the usb (when battery is hooked up macgyver style) at least. so there is hope.
do I need a new battery?
no you wont need a new battery. Dont leave the cable hard wired to the battery for extended periods as its not the ideal way to charge it and it can over charge the battery.
Your phone wont charge in the state its in with the USB cable attached that is why you need to use the macqyver way.
There will be a rom that will flash. If its being a real pain then flash one with the heighest CG version, you wont be able to flash any lower then that as you cannot downgrade once you go higher.
I have a defy + so cant comment on what SBF files to try but I am sure there is one out there that will work. Also there is a red and green lens defy so you might need the right rom for the right phone.
have you read and tried the all in one defy guide?? there is a few links to SBF files in there and there is a problems bit down the bottom with a SBF and instructions to fix problems

i did. thats when i realised things were getting bad, because it had an error...
after a failed sbf flash (i think battery died), now i can't get into stock recovery or bootloader (even when hooked up macgyver).
i'm investing $12 in a new battery, then Ill try RSD different SBFs untill one works.
Q- Does it matter if I'm not in bootloader when using RSD? rsd says 'pass' but nothing seems to change on my phone.
Q- Is it worth trying to push a new bootloader onto my phone, or is that included in SBFs?
Q- Can I hook Macgyver up a wall charger or just the computer?
Not even charging LED showing now so hoping it's just a fried battery from a wrong macgyver, and I'll flash an SBF with a new battery and it'll all be sweet
you need to be in bootloader or RSD wont see your phone
Not sure about a bootloader, the one you have should be fine. You will prob have to get the phone working to flash a new bootloader anyway. Not sure if they are in the SBF or not
You can hook up the macqyver up to the phone charger to. You shouldnt need a battery with the macqyver, You should be able to spin the battery around and use the plastic to wedge the wires into the terminals and it should still work.
I wouldnt recommend prolong use of this method as you could fry the battery or phone if done wrong or left in for extended periods. I would keep a close eye on the temp of the phone and battery.
I dont think the phone charges in bootloader at all (well at least mine didnt) I started with a battery 95% and then flashed a few SBF files and left it on thinking it was charging came back and it wouldnt show in RSD. I done the macqyver method and when I got it to work it had 6% battery so it went dead flat even though it was plugged in and white light was on.
Your battery may be fine it may just be dead flat. You will also have the same trouble with the new battery, Unless you get or have a external charger for the battery so you can charge it outside of the phone. It should also tell you if the battery is faulty.
fixed!!!!
macgyver hook up, flashed tmobile usa latest sbf, despite not having bootloader showing... and it worked!
was the 4th sbf i had tried.
so to that other bloke with the same problem, good luck, keep trying!!!
thats good to know told you it was a matter of trying to find the right SBF.
I went threw the same problem and flashed maybe 10 SBF before one worked but now it seems I can use any as long as the CG version is the same. I flashed ICS and loving it so far.
now when I can get the battery to charge i'll be happy!
otherwise i'll just carry a laptop & spliced usb cable around in my pocket so i can use my phone
glad to know RSD works even with a black screen showing no bootloader!
so the battery wont charge??? try to charge it with the macqyver method for 30 mins. But it should charge if the phone is off connecting the charger up to it, Unless you get the battery with ? in the centre. You may of stuffed your battery but try to charge it first.
I have a 12v charger that hooks up to a car battery and I can use that as a last resort only battery it wont do without a attachment is a lipo. I think it can do lion fine.
Edit: Sorry I should say if you get the battery with the ? in the centre its more to do with the software then the hardware. I have ICS 4.0.4 and could only charge to 83% I copied over many battd.bin files one worked (but got to 93%) the rest came up with the battery with ? in the centre so it wouldnt charge and when I booted it said battery was full but it was only 60%. I found a fix for it (this is for defy) it was a CM7 fix and I am using CM9 but it now charges to 100% and works fine.
You should be able to flash another version with the same CG version. if you are not sure post the link up in another thread asking for the version and people will tell you. As if your on froyo then I have no clue of there versions and what can and cant be done.

BRICKED- No Bootloader
Same Problem with my defy
notes1 said:

Flash Different SBF, because you were using low version SBF
So, I had some issues with my Defy+...
I tested the latest 4.1.2 nightly and seemed like my backup was corrupted (?!) and I had to flash a 2.3.6 BL-6 .SBF since the backup would make me enter a bootloop.
Well, I tried with different .SBFs and sadly all of them have the same effect: the flashing process moves smooth, except that in the moment when I'm asked to power it up it's entering a bootloop.
Now, my battery STILL has some inside, but trying to charge it won't work(gives me the "?" sign). Don't know what should I do. Should I leave the phone in the bootloop until the battery goes away and then to re-flash a .SBF?...
Or my flashing process wasn't good enough and there's a workaround I don't know?... I don't want to brick my phone forever.
Charge battery with mcgyver metod or with other defy & reflash it with 231 sbf. For more info read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
So, there's no other option out there?...

Recharge battery with mcgayver metod and reflash sbf, you'll need start from scratch, because your bootmenu was corrupted and you can't restore nandroid or reinstall zip

Once you have flashed the sbf and back on stock you need to go into the moto recovery and do a restore to default / format system. that should get around the boot loop issue... at least it did for me...
Can't acsess anything

Hi together, well I hope this is the right place.... I'm owner of a motorola Defy MB 525 that ran without any problems on cm9 nightly for last 6 month. Now suddenly it doesn't start any moer andIi can't access recovery setup nor anything else so it's impossible to wipe anything, too. When connected to my notebook only the white LED is shining but nothing happens. The typical "hardware-found-ping" appears and several seconds later the " hardware was removed ping." The right drivers are installed on my notebook, but even RSD Lite doesn't found my Defy so I can't flash enything. Anyone has any Idea what to to?
Thank's in advance for any help!

Do you connect it to RSD in bootloader mode? Volume + when powering on. What is on the screen then?

If you haven't flashed yet try to keep with BL6 sbfs, and not BL7 like 231.
After battery charge try to get to stock recover (volume down when powering on) and wipe data/factory reset before flashing.

Hi, I can't enter bootloader mode, nor anything else. The screen stays dark and the phone doesn'treact. Only mi notebook pings when i press the startbutton one phone. Once for Hardware detected and seconds later for hardware removed. from time to time the notebook tries to find drivers, but couldn't and abort searching.

And your battery? Is it charged?
(Motorola defy MB525) Well, deciding to upgrade from quarx's android 4.2 to 4.4 I went and gave the whole flashing method a try again but I made a mistake on a couple areas and I was stuck in bootloader or the motorola logo appearing on and off over and over. That was because my battery was near death or pretty much dead, so I used the mcgyver method to flash it while it was being charged which 'worked'. It did the usual 'SW update in progress' and the sbf flashed, but after the phone just went to a blank screen (as if it were off) and no longer turns on or goes anywhere. Holding the power button and/or pressing the volume buttons does nothing. I cannot access bootloader or recovery or even get the phone to display. If I connect my defy to my computer, the white led charge light comes on briefly then goes away when the cable is fully connected. Thats the only thing that makes me think my phone isn't totally broke but, I cannot flash anything with RSD Lite again, it does not detect my phone as pressing the 'start' button does nothing.
I even went and bought one of the universal battle chargers thinking my battery just needed to be charged, but even after a full charge the phone has been no different. I'm at a loss, Is my cable the issue? Is my defy just busted? I really need some advice...
Anyone have any ideas? I uploaded a video to youtube showing the problem I have a bit better.

The same thing happens whether I have the battery inserted or no. Its very confusing.
Try to charge the battery with another defy or with an adapter, I think that has no charge
I already charged it with a universal charger (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XY5F6A/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) But was no different. Wouldn't this have worked? It gave me the green LED (full charge) after I left it connected for a while
If mcgyver cable is made properly, and you can't enter bl, you may have bricked your device

I thought even if a defy is bricked you can at least get into bootloader. Can I unbrick it then?
You should be able to get into bl even then, but since you cannot, for some odd reason, there is no alternate method left
The brief white led glow seems to indicate a damaged bl, as when the internal eMMC is wiped completely

Motorola defy is not booting
Hi can any one help me on this.
I rooted my defy and upgraded to jelly bean. It was working fine for a year and after that I found issue. So I tried to upgrade to kitkat cwm11, however it didnt work. So, did a factory reset and when i tried upgrading again, it threw an error saying, unable to mount sd card and unable to clear cache and data. After this I couldnt clear any settings or upgrade anything. Tried with different SD card and it didnt work as well. Finally, phone is not booting and when I tried to go to recovery option it doesnt work, even default motorola recovery doesnt work. My phone is not detecting in computer as well. Phone stays dead on moto logo. Please tell me how to upgrade the phone.

(Sorry double post) Wow, progress!!!
I tried the mcgyver method one last time and upon connecting the second usb cable I heard the windows chime that tells a new device has connected, but still nothing on screen. On a whim I launched RSD lite and tried flashing an SBF which did work! Halfway through the flashing process the screen came on giving me the 'SW Update in progress', though after the flash I'm back at bootloader, Did the flash work? I tried flashing another sbf but same deal, just back at bootloader. Is there a certain sbf I should use?? Please help if you can I'm getting there!
