Ive got a question about using ResHacker...what file format do the icons have to be in? Ive got them in .ico also I am trying to put a icon to an application that doesnt currently have one do you know how I can do this in Res Hacker
In SKtools: I'm having problems with the icon format as well...any idea what format its looking for?
I guess I spoke to soon about them running perfect
How to
In ResHacker open file u want to change the icon of, then hit the action button, and then replace icon. However, with some .exe or .dll files u cannot change there icons.
any help on this one. I have shortcut creator and for some reason when i point it to the Lnk file then to the ico file it just makes a duplicate and renames the old .bak. the icons don't change?
I tried the sk iconmaker and it won't show any of my ico files in the folder.
how can you change icons?
Well, You could do it manually. To change the icon of all shortcuts download a registry editor (PHM RegEdit is free and great), Then goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\inkfile\defaulticon.Edit the string value "default" to the path to the icon you whant all shortcuts to have. The path must lead to a exe, dll or ico file.

this stuff is gold thanks for all the links.
Has anyone tried to sucessfull take out the dll file from the folder to the storage card....
kindly help if yes..

Great useful thread. Thanks.
Concerning icons I like to add this thread
i have heard lots of about mortscripts use,,
but plz can someone elaborate how??
like how can i add new taskbar icons??
how to create flder?
and finally where the hell to put it??
sorry..
if someone already know then plz give the link..
hi, mortscript is a scripting language
you can build a file with extension .mscr and when you double click it instructions will be executed. you can do anything with mortscript: write/read to registry/files, run programs, send commands to the operating systems, send events to the queue...
mortscript is a simple language so you can be up and running in little time. there is no GUI so it is a language very descriptive.
the program can be downloaded at the author's page. There is a complete and concise pdf manual.
in xda there is are two reference threads: mortscript examples acumulation and mortscript source compendium.
rather than ask for that or that code, learn by doing...the machine will do what you want to.

can i cook them??
Like wher i have to put them to execute???ext folder??shared folder or in folder with mname zzzz
Here's a mortscript package. Just put it in your EXT directory. As for the scripts themselves, do whatever you want. I use them during customization (unzipping; creating my start menu..), so you need to put the commands into an add2config.txt file. I also have a few that I use for backing up/restoring files, or exporting reg keys. I just have links to them in my start menu.
you can cook both the app (as says previous post) and the scripts you create or reuse. you can use scripts that build (or copy) the shortcuts at boot time or do anything you want. this is not a quick shot, I recommend you take some reading on mortscript, there is a lot here at xda.
thank u thank u all of u..

They cannot really be edited. They have to be complied with the program.
You can hex edit them but good luck with that.
Lookup a tool called apktool that will decompile the apk and you can edit it with smali and the xml's but a lot of the HTC files cannot be decompiled yet.
AXMLPrinter2.jar to read the .xmls and you need a Hex Editor to hex edit the .xmls.
Mods, please move to the General forum. This doesnt belong in Development.

they really help. while in android u have to edit an xml in binary format. use HxD editor to edit them but the two files i posted with allow u to convert it easily to readable xml and then find the hex strings to look for and then be able to go to binary and search for the hex string. just remember the code is in reverse when u search for it. for example u might see 01 02 03 04 in readable format (dont know what color this is its just an example) when u search for it in binary xml u would search for 04 03 02 01. hope that helps

i was under the impression that you have to hex edit the xml's by use of an xml editor. thats how i was shown and that was by VinceOB. Who in my opinion one of the more experienced coders on this forum.

Does anybody has Resco Explorer in ext package?
Tried to do it but i miss resco registry and resco ftp.
Thanks!!
What exactly do you want to get? I have it (selfmade).... But it's free for sure....
One more thing - I use OEM regular structure - not EXT (For OsBuilder). It's a normal package - with rgu and dsm.... Registry is a separate cab - you should add it to the package. FTP is a part of explorer - just added features.

Well, in Resco site there is one cab for all the subprograms that are included in the resco 2010 8.10 version.
It is this cab I tried to convert to ext package.Everyrhing works except registry function.
Thanks anyway.
Attached is the app.reg (renamed to app.txt because of forums limitations) file that I use for Resco Explorer with FTP and Registry plugins added.
I didn't clean it up so it also contains the keys and values for the options and settings that I prefer having.
For future reference, I had the same issue as you at first then I used a tool called Kheb to monitor the registry changes that happen when I install cabs and customize everything. Kheb can also make diffs between different registry snapshots and even generate OEM packages based on such diffs.
I did apply your REG file, but Resco Registry not work yet, the problem is a SETUP.DLL in to the Resco Explorer CAB, it contains a secret instructions and I believe that is impossible to open it, anyway I saw some cooks with Resco Explorer and Registry in their ROMs, it's obvious that they know the secret.
I also want to know.....pleaseeeee

Make the package with cab to package software (there is in all kitchens) and then replace the reg and app.dat files with the ones attached and cook it.Works for me.
The idea goes to MusicMonk but his attached file doesnt work for me.
Just use Kheb like MusikMonk suggested; it will capture all of the reg keys that are installed by the setup.dll. You can also look in the setup.dll with notepad and probably see the keys that are installed.
If you're trying to backup you registration info, it's stored in a file in \windows called wmtrigger.dat. All of Resco's registration codes are stored in that file, so if you have several of their apps, that's all you need.

I did apply your REG file but not works for me, anyway thanks for your help, mate.
I made a CAB file from the original Resco Explorer CAB, I deleted all files except SETUP.DLL and later run it and VOILA!!! the Resco Registry works !!!!!
Unfortunately I don't need it, I need the secret instructions in SETUP.DLL, I did open it using UltraEdit but I can't find nothing.
try this it should work, but your still gonna need the code as this is not cracked
Thank you, mate, but I found the secret reg keys in the setup.dll file. I used CeRegEditor to create a registry image, later install the cab with setup.dll and I created a image again, and finally I compared the first and second image to detect the differences.
I made a new reg and all works now
Thank you very much mates
fully working resco explorer package
Fixed some shortcuts added rtoday plugin, resco update, task manager that was missing and ftp in previous packages and is attached below.
Of course it needs the usual registration process.

The registration code is in the wmtrigger.dat file in windows folder which is created after registration.
So you have to copy this folder after registration and put it in your kitchen.

All Resco products write registration to one file It's well known for ages and it's no need to discover anything. So if you decide to use several resco products - you should install and register them all and then save the summary wmtrigger.dat - it will be one for all installed Resco-s..... And for sure - system User name should be the same for all your roms - it's also fixed in that file...
One more tip: if you occasionally decide to use cracked resco products - you will get a conflict if you use for example one legal and one cracked program simultaneously in one rom. So better use all registered.

You can use sktracker in your phone.
This program traces the changes in registry and files so if you create a snapshot with the program and then install or register applications or change the options and user settings in applications (you better do it program by program) you can easily find the changes and apply them each time you change your rom.
I apply all mods with sashimi but there are other choices also.

Does anyone know how to backup Resco Customizations ( e.g ToollBar Shortcuts etc ? )
So, I'm pretty new at creating working ext packages from cab files, and I could use some help.

Cooking that package, I have a few problems. When I hold down the power button, it says exe can't be found. So, just to make sure that the visual aspect is working, I try searching for quickshutdown.exe in \Windows and can't find it.
So, what's wrong in my .dat and .reg?
Thanks a lot for the help, this will definitely give me a better understanding of how EXT packages work!
Regards
Smith
First of all, I think that these lines in your app.dat are unnecessary; because when you cook the ROM then the files that are not specified with the path in app.dat land automatically in the Windows folder:
Directory("\Windows"):-File("bootloader.exe","%Windows%\bootloader.exe")
Directory("\Windows"):-File("ConfigQS.exe","%Windows%\ConfigQS.exe")
Directory("\Windows"):-File("DLLSetup.dll","%Windows%\DLLSetup.dll")
Directory("\Windows"):-File("QuickShutdown.exe","%Windows%\QuickShutdown.exe")
Directory("\Windows"):-File("Short_Power.exe","%Windows%\Short_Power.exe")
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Second: All of the lines are wrong. Example:
Directory("\Windows"):-File("QuickShutdown.exe","%Windows%\QuickShutdown.exe")
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
It should be:
Directory("\Windows"):-File("QuickShutdown.exe","\Windows\QuickShutdown.exe")
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Third: Open up the file _Shutdown.lnk in notepad and see if it links to the \Windows\QuickShutdown.exe
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Maybe you will find something in my post that can help you.
It's much, much easier to do than the way you're trying to do it. First, copying all of those files is really wasteful. If you look at your registry keys, there are paths there for the resource files. Instead of creating a \windows sub-directory, you could just set the path as \windows. Then, the files that are in rom will be used, and you won't need duplicates, or any of the app.dat lines (except for the .lnk).
Change the .rgu to this:
Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Manila_Config QuickShutdown]
"SourcesDirectory"="\\Windows\\"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Manila_QuickShutdown]
"actionShortPress"=hex:00
"BootActiv"=hex:01
"langFile"="\\Windows\\lang.english.txt"
"RestartActiv"=hex:01
"ScreenOffActiv"=hex:01
"ShutdownActiv"=hex:01
"SleepActiv"=hex:01
Try deleting the DLLSetup.dll-it's really unlikely that you need it. It's just cabinstall information, most likely. Unless you really want all those other lang files, I'd just delete all but the English one. If you cook them all in, it's possible that you'll need to get the others into \windows\lang (it doesn't look like there's a reg key for the lang directory, just for the file being used). I don't know, I've never used the app. As mentioned above, you may also need to fix the path of the shortcut.
You may also want to look into compressing the png files, although it's not really worth it if they're only 1-2 kb each.
This is what I use. I put it together and it worked, so I never did much investigation to see if it could be optimized.
One thing to be aware of ... if you have carrier files which fire provxml, it is possible that the provxml could do something to overwrite the poweroffwarning file here. Same is true if you have a poweroffwarning file getting copied in later in the build process.
Best regards,
-boggsie

Great call! Worked immediately! Thanks a lot!
One more quick question. Cooking total commander is being dumb. The EXT I create doesn't have any exe files in the "files" folder, and doesn't extract any into windows. It just isn't working well lol.
Also, what version or what addon enables the user to hold the slash button and bring up the menu where you can hide exit blah blah total commander?
Thanks
Smith
Total Commander is easy to cook in. Again, you don't need app.dat lines, except for the shortcut (make sure it points to windows). Just put the .exe and the plugins (registry, wlan, ftp and webdav, if you have it) in windows. Cook in the reg settings, and you're good to go. I would convert the exe to a module as well.

So... Create the EXT and recmod without any reg or dat entries except icon and shortcut?
No, include the ghisler reg key (hkcu-software-ghisler). Set it up however you like it (like w/ a fully loaded hotlist). But don't move the files around w/ the app.dat.

Huh this isn't working lol could you post the cab you're working with? My cab is acting up (even on fully functional roms)

Hello Farmer Ted - what for is the file that you attached?
It's a plugin for WebDav, which is the new big thing. I have no clue wtf it does.
Get the ghisler reg key from the device, not the cab. That's always the way to do it. Kheb 1.1 is the way to go for making packages. Cab converters miss a lot of stuff.
Edit: here's my package; it's in oem form (for osbuilder), and it looks like there's a second file needed to get webdav to work in the plugins. Edit the hotlist however you want it (it has folders on my sd card, which are useless to anyone else). It doesn't have a shortcut or initflashfiles.txt in it, since I don't use them for my start menu.
To be more specific about TCMD, here is the output I get with OSkitchen cab to ext:
TCMD>Files
And within the files directory:
000cecmd.002
CECMD_~2.001
00000ftp.003
00000LAN.005
registry.004
TcmObex3.007
TcmObex5.006
So what do I do with those files lol
Regards
Smith

Thanks for your package, much appreciated! This thread has taught me a lot about how ext's work
Do you know what all those strange files I talked of 2 posts up are though? Like, how do I put those all together?

I'm not sure what the technical name is, but those are the raw files from the cab; if you extract the cab with winzip or 7-zip, that's the file names. If you give them the proper extensions (.dll, exe, etc) then you can recover the proper files. It looks like the unpacking didn't work properly.
