ROMS & tools for SL101 (Asus EEE Pad Slider) - Eee Pad Transformer General

Since I don't think there will be a seperate forum for the SL101, I'd like to request a reference thread with links to all tools and ROMs for the Asus EEE Pad Slider.
It's very similar to the TF101 but it requires support for the built-in keyboard and the sliding mechanism.
So far, the only ROM I found is this one:
The only tool I found is this one to root:
I'm still looking for a tool to unroot it actually.

so does the krackd rom really work on the sl101?
How about if you bought the sl101 in Japan and it has a funky japanese keyboard? Will a rom still work ? Or unsafe?

KRAKD is a fantastic rom and from all the info posted does work on the epad slider, however i was getting battery drain with the kernel so i flashed the roach kernel via the UPd8r that comes with Krakd. Now battery life is the best i have had

According to the thread, the Revolver rom has a Slider compatibility pack, so you can use it on the slider as well (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173230). It says so in the FAQ.

It seems that Kract , revolver, and prime roms all work on the sl101.
I have prime installed on mine.
But can someone please make a rom that can boot from the minisd slot!!! please!
only nvflash roms are able to dual boot ubuntu and if you don't have the sbk your sol.
Since we don't have sbk for sl101, please make it bootable from minisd.

So if i root and install a custom rom what happens when i try and update to an official ics update if it ever comes to our device

Well i went crazy last night and downloaded the ics update for my sl101 and amazingly it works perfect so far.... i only got an hour or so of play time in last night but its amazing. Also vipermod v4.5 works to get root access on it.
I THINK IM IN HEAVEN NOW!!!!

A week ago, I rooted my SL101 with ViperMod Time 4.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427125
For all Sliders owners, I you have the lastest firmware in your Slider (.21) and you want to root it, use that tool, the 3rd option (it uses Nachoroot) and your slider will be rooted in a few minutes. I use Ubuntu but for any reason I didn't work for me, then I used and virtual machine with Win XP and I didn't need anything more (if you use a virtual machine, remeber to activate the USB on the virtual machine when your slider is rebooting)
Now, I've installed Revolver 3.11.1 because I want the voodo audio driver and compatibility with 3G dongles
When Asus releases the ICS source, then I'll update to it.

Does anyone have any news about ICS on our SL101?

You have an official ICS update for the Slider?
I thought Asus only updated the Transformer. But the update package on their website is always compatible with both devices.

So, if you have a slider and you want to use ICS right now, just do the following.
(1) Go to the following website.
ASUS - Eee- ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101
(2) Choose android.
(3) Download the latest WW/US/TW/etc. version of ICS there.
(4) Unzip that file. Inside, you will probably find a folder called update. Inside that folder, you will find another zip file. Keep this zip file.
(5) Change its name to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip and place this file in the root of your micro sdcard.
(6) Put micro sdcard into TF.
(7) Turn off TF.
(8) Power on by pressing and holding the power and volume down buttons at the same time.
(9) Once you see some texts on the upper left hand corner of the tablet, release the buttons and immediately press the volume up button.
(10) Watch your tablet upgrade itself to ICS.
Once ICS officially comes out for the slider, repeat this process but use the official ICS for the slider firmware.

How did you setup your slider to do that?

When I try I get the android icon with a trangle and a ! in the middle of it. What could I be doing wrong?

I just checked on the Asus website and there's an update available with ICS for our SL101s
Now I'm looking for a custom ROM based in the official update...

I jist tried this method with the US 9.2.1.21 as the update yesterday from HC killed my su (even though I had the OTA Rootkeeper) It failed. Now I'm looking for an alternative method.

Great performance and speed after the ICS update (ver. 4.0.3)

And NachoRoot? Did you try this other method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427838
Vipermod uses that method (it copies a file in your tablet and later execute it) but if Vipermod doesn't work, you can try this one It looks a bit long, but in short, install ADB and copy the file in your tablet, execute this file and wait
NachoRoot works on Honeycomb, if you updated your tablet and now you have ICS, then try again with ViperMod and one of the 2 first options.

Arabic support

Has anyone managed to get Arabic working. I have a UK version and the language is not an option, and does not display properly. I thought it was native in Honeycomb.
Do the following after consideration:
1) Backup everything.
2) Download this:http://www.multiupload.com/D3A2DU7X4D
it's an official update.zip from Acer. It worked on my Iconia but I take no responsibility if something happens.
3) rename it to 'update.zip' and put it on your sd card.
4) Turn off you Iconia.
5) Hold -volume then power (Keep holding -volume).
6) It will then flash the update. Congrats, you have full Arabic.
It should be noted that this may break your ability to update properly, and reverting is currently not possible.
I had same problem with German a500. Solved by using app in market world local .. no hacking required which means you can stay with update program.. but if you add the APk files and or trick update /custom you prob prevent updating (pls verify experts i am a noob)
I needed exchange so followed the great guide on the forum rooted and added apc file but this stopped update.. so hoping with all support on here it you need unofficial functions and the pressure by writing to Acer they give the developers what they want to take a500 forward as its a great gadget.. and Acer give us all the functions officially sooner than later...,

[Q] one week with my a500 - no ota updates?

Would really be grateful for some advice.
Just purchased my a500 a week ago. Love it, aside from some minor bugs.
Question: had this puppy a week now, running stock 1.104.12 and have not been prompted for any updates. I see from the dev thread newer builds have been released. Tried to follow the steps to manually update, it fails every time. Any way I can force a ota upgrade or anyone available to help me manually upgrade? Will gladly give some paypal love for your time.
(Edit: I asked before I read the instructions the second time and realized my mistake at applying patches. Resolved.)
It's possible they removed all the updates in preparation for the 'biggie' (3.1) that everyone seems to be pinning all their hopes on.
check my sig
I bought two a few weeks ago. One for someone else. That one updated after 2 days, mine NEVER did get an update.
Manual check claims: "Your device is up to date" NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still on Acer_A500_1.105.01_EMEA_GEN3
I WANT my Exchange functionality ACER!
Robin
You are not alone. I bought one in early May and one in early June. The first received the update and the second has not.
After realizing my mistake..
I was able to use the ota update method described in the development section and successfully went to the latest ota update version. Give it a shot, not too hard at all.

Do you really think they going to push update right before the 3.1 update schedule?
Be patient that's it.
Try to update MANUALLY (with an SDCard and the method by following my link in sig)

It took about 4 hours!
OK, the update itself went relatively quick and painless, but then of course my WIFI died. Took me 4 hours to get that fixed and then YES you do need root and root explorer ect. to get it fixed.
Browser seems to be even more f-ed now. Crashes like crazy. Well, I do have my Exchange support now............

What you did wrong dude ? I own 2 tablets and updated them in less than 5 minutes not each, both of them.
- get the file fit your tablet build version
- decode the file with the tool
- put the update.zip on your SDCARD
- reboot with power and volume down
- wait... 2 minutes
- tablet restart and you are updated.
I don't see the problem.

Let me make your list complete, then you will see the problem:
- get the file fit for your tablet build version
- decode the file with the tool
- put the update.zip on your SDCARD
- reboot with power and volume down
- wait... 2 minutes
- tablet restart and you are updated
- check and YES, new version shows up on your device!
- dance around the room; you have beaten the system!
- find that you have no internet
- find that you have no wifi
- reboot again
- find that WIFI says "error" and cannot be switched on
- reboot
- find that nothing has changed
- browse forums on XDA
- find "fix"
- download two files
- copy them to the required folder
- reboot
- still WIFI error
- figure out that you either have to really override/replace the files or that you also have to set the permissions
- find that you do not have a clue how to set permissions on files
- figure out that you probably have to root the device
- browse XDA
- find program
- download program
- put program on A500
- install program
- run program
- now A500 is rooted
- now try copy action again
- no luck, folder is R/O (read only) which means that the WIFI fix files still cannot be copied to the right folder
- browse XDA and Google
- try File Expert
- No luck
- Try Linda File Manager
- No luck
- Download Root Explorer 2.3.x
- Aha, this one allows for setting permissions and can set the system folder to R/W (read write)
- Bad luck, it is not able to set R/W to any folder deeper (or below) than "system". As the files need to go to System/Lib/Modules, I am still stuck
- browse Google and XDA some more
-find Root Explorers which can be installed via the Market. Bad luck, without WIFI, no market.........
- finally find Root Explorer 2.13.3
- download file. = .zip
- upzip it
- no files in the archive that can be run or can be installed
- ?????????
- lucky try; Rename rootexplorer2.13.3.zip to rootexplorer2.13.3.apk
- copy file to A500
- browse for file on A500
- install Root Explorer (so the trick with renaming worked)
- use Root Explorer to copy the two WIFI fix files AGAIN
- am now able to set the lower level folders to R/W also
- paste the files (that seems to work, no confirmation, no error message)
- reboot A500
- after reboot A500 directly begins to retrieve e-mails
- happy
- look at the clock. Should have been in bed already..........
- decide to set-up Active Sync (which with the new version is now available) and uninstall the e-mail clients that I used before to tacle that problem
- A500 seems to be a bit snappier
- browse the internet on the A500 a bit. Browser crashes to the home screen like crazy (looks like it has gotten worse)
- pissed off, needs more testing
- decide to go to bed anyhow..... it is LATE
Now you understand?
Robin
I understand that you are unlucky ghahahaha
Acer Iconia A500 - number 1
get the file fit for your tablet build version
- decode the file with the tool
- put the update.zip on your SDCARD
- reboot with power and volume down
- wait...
- restart the machine manually...
- get scared to loose all but restart the procedure...
- wait 2 minutes
- tablet restart and you are updated
- check and YES, new version shows up on your device!
- dance around the room; you have beaten the system!
Acer Iconia A500 - number 2
- put the sdcard of A500 number 1
- reboot with power and volume down
- wait... 2 minutes
- tablet restart and you are updated
- check and YES, new version shows up on your device!
and... life goes on like before...
You got unlucky that's it... sorry for you
I got lucky, i guess
No issues with wifi after patching - my first attempt did not work due to me not reading the directions carefully, missed the step where you take the update.zip file out of the unencrypted update file
These are official patches from Acer - suprised they are not aware of this issue? Guess I just got lucky - my update went perfect and my system is much snappier. Right after that I rooted it and have removed a bunch of the bloatware that comes preloaded - this thing is running great.
Now I just want 3.1 so hopefully 720p video can be hardware decoded. Until then, hdrips are fine for me.

Rooting the SCH i400 - Step by Step Instructions for Newbies

I just managed to root my SCH i400 (first ever rooting of any Android device for me).
I am very surprised by how smoothly it went, despite reports & warnings everywhere about complications (like this one - which should be totally ignored if you're using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 or higher).
For the benefit of n00bs like me who may be confused by multiple sources, resources, versions and problem reports, I am posting a step by step procedure that is confirmed (by me, on Windows XP SP3) to be working smoothly, without a single hitch of complications:
Phone: Make sure setting > applications > unknown sources is checked.
Phone: Make sure phone is in debugging mode.
Phone: Make sure SD card is unmounted!
PC: Make sure Windows USB driver for this phone installed and works
PC: Make sure .NET 3.51 SP1 is installed.
PC: Unzip SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse.zip ==> C:\Program Files\SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse
PC: Double-click SuperOneClick.exe
PC (in SuperOneClick): Make sure you're on the Universal tab (the only other tab is Samsung Captivate, which isn't the i400).
PC (in SuperOneClick): Now click the root button and wait for the process to complete.
PC (in SuperOneClick): "BusyBox not found. Would you like to install it?" Yes!
PC (in SuperOneClick): "Root install has completed! Would you like to run a test?" Yes!
PC (in SuperOneClick): "Your device has been rooted! Would you like to donate now?"
Exit SuperOneClick, unplug phone from USB, power down phone, power on phone. -- this step might not be mandatory, I just did it to be on the safe side.
Enjoy!
Great job on this tut.

Froyo is so nice... Here's how...
Hey guys... new poster here.
Just got a (Gently used) Samsung Continuum for free from Verizon after the power button on my G Droid 1 broke.
Anyways, after rcving it and realizing that it would only support Android 2.1 - I was slightly upset.
My D1 was rooted and modded to the max many times over with just about every ROM you can get.
So after reading up about IMNUTS leaking the Froyo download for the Continuum, my hopes were raised.
It is now debinged, debloated, lightening quick and amazing!
There may not be ROMS out there yet - but I truly hope some of you geniuses decide to make a few.
Just wanted to say thanks and encourage you to do some research before rooting it.
Here's what worked for me.
Odin 1.3
Continuum PIT.pit file
froyo_modem.tar.md5
cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar
cyan Clockwork Mod Recovery (BLUE, not yellow) (update.zip file, which is placed on the root of your SD card - renamed to update.zip)
stock_deodexed_ec03.zip (ROM)
(Place all of these files on your Desktop for easy access)
How to do it...
1. Connect your phone to your computer and Mount it.
2. Place the cyan CWM Recovery zip file to your SD card. (rename it to update.zip & do not put it in any folders. Just drag the file to your SD card - whatever drive it is listed as. Mine is my Removeable F
3. Make a new folder on your SD card. Name it whatever you want. (Mine is named "Froyo") Place the stock_deodexed_ec03.zip file in the folder on your SD card.
4. Open Odin 1.3 on your PC.
5. While your phone is off... hold the down volume button and connect it to your computer via USB. The yellow triangle will appear and it will say "Downloading". (Some people say to take the battery out, but my Odin program would not recognize my phone without the battery. Whichever works for you is fine.)
6. In Odin - Click the PIT file button. Load the Continuum.Pit.pit file into the file field. (Just double click it once you find the file from your Desktop.)
7. In Odin - Click the PDA button. Load the froyo_modem.tar.md5 file into the file field. (same as #6. Just double click it once you find the file from your Desktop.)
8. Click Start in Odin.
It should think for a minute, then say resetting, then say PASS
Then your phone will probably turn back on - turn it off again and reconnect it to your PC in download mode as stated in #5 above.
9. In Odin - Click the PDA button again. Load the cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar file as you did in #'s 6 and 7 above.
10. Click Start again in Odin... same as before. (thinking, resetting and PASS)
Your phone will turn on again.
11. Disconnect your phone from the computer & turn it off.
12. Hold both Volume buttons and turn it on. It will boot into the Samsung Recovery mode.
13. Use your Volume buttons to go down to highlight "apply update.zip" Then find the place where your normal Menu softkey would be and push it. The phone should then reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery. It will be orangish.
14. In CWM, use the Volume buttons to highlight Backup/ Restore. Use the Power Button to choose it. Then at the next field, highlight Backup and make a backup.
15. After is makes the backup, press where the softkey Back button should be to go back to the original screen. From there, do a Wipe Data/ Factory reset. Do not forget to do this part.
16. Once it does the Data Wipe - go back to the main menu and and highlight & select the "zip from SD card" choice. Find your "Froyo" folder (of whatever you named it) and apply the stock_deodexed_ec03.zip file.
17. After that, go back to the main menu again and reboot your phone.
It may take a while, but your phone should restart in Froyo.
Of course, you have to re-sign in to your Google network...
Thanks so much guys for all the posts. Without them, is nowhere near as cool.
Hanging at Step #5, Now what?
Thank you for sharing. Wish I could say it went as smoothly for me with my SCH-I400 Continuum... I'm still working on it! I followed recommendations of several different developers/rooters. I've installed .Net Framework 4.0 and the SDK developers kit (who knows, maybe I'll start a new hobby...), and now when I run Superoneclick it hangs at step #5 with this message:
link_image[1728]: 3252 could not load needed library 'libdiskconfig.so' for './zergRush' (load_library[1058]: Library 'libdiskconfig.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
I have rebooted the computer and the phone, unmounted the SD card, settings to allow unknown sources, and turned on USB debugging. I'm not sure why the config file can't be found, and I don't know where to get it...
Do I need to reinstall the SDK? Or install the additional Java developers software? Or am I over-complicating this whole thing?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated...
-James
Perhaps the easiest way is to flash a rooted ROM through Odin (or Heimdall)... Especially if you don't use Windows. This is how I did it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203597
Two topics in one thread?
Hmmm... seems we have 2 things happening hear. 1: Rooting a Samsung Continuum, and 2: Flashing a ROM...
My concern is the "hang" at step five for Rooting my Continuum SCH-I400... Cant use a ROM until the dang thing is rooted, and can't seem to figure out the hang.
Tried Z4 root from the phone rather than through the PC and it hung indefinitely... Maybe there's a related issue, and I don't care if it's Superoneclick or Z4 that gets the job done.
Has anyone gotten past the same issue?

That's where you are over complicating. You don't actually have to root BEFORE you flash a new rom, if the rom is 'prerooted'. I've never rooted this thing via s1c or z4. I simply flashed the kernels via odin and flashed the rom in cwm.

The issue seems to be that you just have to use that little search box a little better via xda or your web browser and find more information the root program your trying to use.
When you give up on that you can take txwolf1980 's advice
PS hang on step 5 in OP? Or in 3rd post? That would be getting into dl mode lol

I spent 6 hours last night troubleshooting, researching, digging deep, and "using that little search box." Seems to me You guys need to "just read the thread." It's about rooting your phone, period. If a forum is out there, I've probably read it. I'm using superoneclick to do it. SDK is installed. Net framework is installed. My error message frome SOC is above. When I am finally rooted, THEN I will install several programs - starting with a wifi tether.
I see you have the same phone as I do. Is it rooted with a one-click method? I also tried Z4root and didn't like it.

well i did read the thread...
ive been out of town for a week and finally back on my pc... i would love to help you yet more info is needed.
you are running dl17 stock 2.1 correct?
what OS is your pc running?
and yes i have same phone as you. i have used superone click on ec03 build once.
just for root. but then flashed a deodexed rom to use custom mods and apps.
and since have been flashing rooted kernels, imnuts and adrynalynne have released most all of them.
there are a few ways to root the device, best bet is, as always is go to IRC.
clarity and patience are key, we all got to practice both
I rooted EC09 with soc no problem. If I send someone the EC09 could they extract the apks and send them to me? I deleted some sys apps for the ticker and rss feeds and need them back now to use it.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium
Unzip factory.rfs of ec09 to grab missing apks and put them on sdcard and install from there.

FYI, my Windows Defender threat scanner just reported this SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse.zip file as Exploit:AndroidOS/CVE-2011-1823, more specifically pointing at a file named Exploits/GingerBreak in that ZIP file.
I am going to delete this ZIP file as I no longer need it, but I got curious: Any idea what this means?

It means it'll root your phone. Some applications could try to do this without permission and do shady things with your phone. Nothing to worry about if your doing it on purpose.

[FAQ] Common Issues and Solutions for SGT7.7, now with JB (12 May 2013+)

After seeing similar questions get asked and answered several time over, I thought this might be helpful (not least for myself). No particular order for now. Feel free to propose additional Q/A or edits--I'll credit accordingly. Thanks to our moderator (original_ganjaman) for making this a sticky.
This is meant to be a quick reference that either briefly answers a question or links to the answer--for issues with more or less known solutions. This is not the best place to post new, previously unanswered questions.

JELLYBEAN (Added 12 May 2013+)
Q1: Can it be that the wait is over?
Indeed. Some ten months after the ICS update to our beloved SGT7.7 (and the release of JB into the wild), the Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.2) update has finally arrived. As of now, the ROM for Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Malaysia (PDA= P6800DXMD3, CSC = P6800OLBMD3) is available; and only for the P6800 (not the P6810). If you device came from the appropriate locations and have an appropriate stock ROM, you should be able to update via Kies. Else, download the file from Sammobile.com (search for "P6800").
The two main methods for flashing the ROM (not counting officially via Kies) are ODIN, and MobileODIN (requires a rooted device before flashing). Instructions for using both can be found here. Flashing with MobileODIN can be done preserving root, which is convenient. I have upgraded my SGT7.7 (Hong Kong model) with the Singapore ROM, using MobileODIN, wiping cache and data (thus losing my old apps, etc.), but preserving root--apparently, doing it this way can help avoid some potential wifi issues (reported in the forums), and battery life.
Q2: What languages are available in the SEA ROM (PDA = P6800DXMD3, CSC = P6800OLBMD3)?
As the ROM is meant for Southeast Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia), the available languages are: English (UK), English (US), Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Tamil (?), Tieng Viet, Korean and Chinese (Simplified). A workaround for getting additional input languages is described in this post. Alternatively, you can also install swype (from Play Store), which has the option for downloading ton of additional input languages.

ICE CREAM SANDWICH (Added 6 July 2012; edited 27 July 2012)
Q1: Whaa...?
As of the time of posting, the Android 4.0 ICS upgrade is only available via Kies for devices from Austria, and as more recently, Hong Kong. However, it is possible to download a copy of the respective ROMs from sammobile.com--search for "P6800" (3g/wifi version) or "P6810 (wifi only version). The .zip file is 590+MB. Be sure to get the correct ROM as the one for the P6800 will not work on the P6810 and vice versa. The ROMs do seem to work on devices from a variety of countries (not counting the Verizon 7.7). A list of languages supported in the Austria ROM can be found here. See here for discussion of the Hong Kong ROM.
The two main methods for flashing the ROM (not counting officially via Kies) are ODIN, and MobileODIN (requires a rooted device before flashing). Instructions for using both can be found here. Flashing with MobileODIN can be done preserving root, which is convenient. A detailed and guide using ODIN can also be found here.
It is also possible to flash with HEIMDALL--but just make sure that it is not Ver. 1.3.2 (1.3.1 works fine). The main bits: heimdall flash --cache cache.img --factoryfs factoryfs.img --hidden hidden.img --modem modem.bin --recovery recovery.img --secondary-boot Sbl.bin --kernel zImage; then CWM can be flashed with heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img (cgm999)
Flashing the ICS Rom over a STOCK Rom (both rooted and unrooted) preserves settings and most of the third-party apps, i.e., wiping is not required. (All told, this is also probably the safest way to proceed.) Mileage varies if flashing over non-stock Roms. (UPDATE--wintermute000 writes: "...doing a clear data/factory reset in locerra's Clockwork Recovery is 100% safe, the brick bug affects STOCK recovery.
More information on the brick bug and whether it affects ICS on the 7.7; also this.).
Some of the issues involving missing or non-functioning stock apps seems resolved if the a factory reset is done after flashing (settings>Back up and reset>Factory data reset; or when off, hold volume up and briefly press power to access option to factory reset). UPDATE--WildmanJoe writes: "...following a suggestion from another member on the board, I have found that it is not necessary to do a factory reset if your stock apps don't work. Just go to settings>applications and clear the data for the stock apps that don't work. It is tedious, however, it eliminates the factory reset brick risk..."
ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK AS IT IS POSSIBLE TO BRICK YOUR DEVICE (see this discussion, and this.)
See here for a database of successful/unsuccessful upgrade configurations. (Do also contribute your own experience.)
Q2: What's it like?
As anticipated, the tab is way more responsive with ICS rather than Honeycomb. But having said that, ICS for the SGT7.7 does come with Samsung's 'enhancements', which means touchwiz (and no stock ICS Launcher). The Email, Contacts, Calendar ("S-Planner"), Messaging, Clock, etc. apps are also from Samsung. On the bright side, the unable-to-write-to-externalSD problem seems solved.
Q3: How do I modify the looks of it?
As with Honeycomb, an alternative launcher is still recommended (unless you have a special love for touchwiz). Possibilities include the old favorites ADW Launcher Ex, Go Launcher, LauncherPro, etc., but now also including those that only work with ICS and above: e.g., Nova and Apex. Furthermore, you can also install a status bar that looks (mostly) like stock ICS with this mod.
Q4: Can I install stock Google apps?
Search for "Android 4 ICS Calendar", "Android 4 ICS Messaging SMS" and "Android 4 ICS Launcher" by Tim Hutt in Play Store.
Q5: What about the Browser?
A Samsung tweaked version. You can always install Google Chrome (Play Store)--but this one does not work with flash--or Dolphin HD.
Q6: What about the keyboard(s)?
Comes with a Samsung keyboard, swype, and voice input. The version of Swype that comes with the Rom supports a limited number of languages, and there is no option to download more languages. If you want to use swype with other languages, go to the swype website, sign up for a free account, and follow the instructions to install swype beta. Swype beta can coexist with the version of swype that came with the Rom, and allows the possibility of installing additional languages (including Arabic, Korean, Chinese, etc.).
If what you want is the stock ICS keyboard, search for "IceCream Sandwich-ICS Keyboard" in the Play Store.
Q7: Can I root?
Yes and no. To be more precise: a rooted stock Honeycomb Rom can be upgraded to ICS via MobileODIN while preserving root. Update: here is a method to root the ICS rom.
* * * * *
HONEYCOMB (Older version of the FAQ)
Q1: Surely this thing with its speedy processor should feel more responsive?
A: First and foremost, this thing is very speedy and responsive (see e.g., this discussion). Ok, ok, the general consensus is that Honeycomb (Android 3.0) and Samsung Touchwiz (the default launcher) are holding back the otherwise stellar hardware a little. The only solution for the first is to wait for the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwish (Android 4.0) update, slated to be released July 2012.
What can--and arguably should--be done in the meantime is to change the launcher. ADW Launcher Ex*, Go Launcher, LauncherPro, and SPB all options. Apart from being much faster, more responsible and less of a resource hog, they are also much more customizable compared to Touchwiz (search in Market for various themes and icon packs). Some worry that since Touchwiz is not removed (it can't be on stock unrooted rom), it might still be in the background. If you are afraid that it is taking up valuable processor cycles, remove all homescreen widgets on Touchwiz to make yourself feel better, like I did.
*Jade Eyed Wolf has put up a very useful video tutorial on how to use ADW here (the thread is here). To get rid of the top statusbar in ADW, see this.
Q2: Is there a way to make the system font size larger without rooting?
There is an app for that; though this is probably be a better way for the those who have rooted their device (omarrabbat).
Q3: I am unable to write to the external sd card (from within Android) using anything other than the stock file manager; is there something wrong with me?
A: No, you're fine. That's how it is out of the box. The solution requires rooting (see Q4 below) the device and changing the permissions for the sd card. See here. (You can of course write to the sd card with Windows explorer after connecting the Tab to the PC via the USB cable.) Another method for solving the problem is available here; note that you will also need the device to be rooted, and have CWM Recovery installed, beforehand (lowem).
Q4: How do I get root access?
One guide is here; another (with instructions to unroot) is here.
Q5: Why can't I seem to change the lockscreen wallpaper?
Settings>Screen>Screen display>Lock screen. At which point you should be in Gallery (or if, like me, you have an alternative pic viewer--e.g., QuickPic--installed, the dialogue box should ask you to "select wallpaper from"...). Select photo of choice, but make sure to crop with Gallery, and presto. See discussion here.
Q6: How do I get movies and tv shows onto the tab?
See this discussion.
Q7: How do I connect my tab to my PC using a USB cable? Wireless?
Make sure that the appropriate drivers are installed on the PC (e.g., download and install Samsung Kies. When plugged in, Windows should recognize the tab as an MTP device, which allows one to browse both the internal storage and the external sd card in Explorer. The option to convert files as you copy to the device is not a good idea (see this). Best to do any conversion you want on the PC. It's safe to disconnect by simply pulling out the USB cable.
For wireless file transfers (and much more), try Airdroid, which works, and is free.
Q8: What's a good pdf reader for this baby?
There are several good choices: EBookDroid, Repligo, EzPDF, Mantano, Aldiko...

Dear Samsung team member, can you please pressure the product team to release an upgrade to this device as the screen fonts are so small its very difficult to use.
I have read in a number of forums that customers are not happy with this problem and some believe that it will be fixed with the release of ICS for this device.
I bought the product with the intention of using it for work and its painfull to read. I really hope something can be done to fix this urgently.
Kind regards
XXXX

Q3: I am unable to write to the external sd card using anything other than the stock file manager; is there something wrong with me?

I've used Bluetooth File Transfer app from the market on my SGS phone to send files to my paired GT-P6810. It works great. Remember though that BT is sloooow so use alternate, egWiFi, for large files.

I can't offer a solution but would be keen to see if anyone can. I have the same problem. My 7.7 3G just won't connect to Kies. I'm running Vista, but will soon have a new PC with Win 7, so will try again then.
No probs with my SG2

For Q3, found a slightly easier way via the "update.zip" method over at this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458021
It's under Tab 7 Plus forum but I've tried it and it works for Tab 7.7 as well.

This is good. The original poster noted that the method "won't work for a device that doesn't have CWM Recovery installed." What about your own 7.7: was it rooted and did you have CWM Recovery installed when you use the update.zip?

What is the LOST.DIR folder?
Can the folder itself or the files within them be removed?
Is there a safe way to remove the tablet from the connection a computer via USB?

Not sure.
I've always just pulled my USB cable out. Doesn't seem to be any issue. I suppose it's more proper to effect it on the PC first.

Windows doesn't have an "eject" or "safely remove hardware" option for devices connected via MTP--at least, not one like it does for HDDs, flash drives, or other USB mass storage devices. As long as you're not using the connection it's fine to just unplug it.

Root for ICS TPT! This time the REAL thing!

Hey guys, I have good news for you all. I sat down these days and tried all kinds of exploits and one, normally for the Asus Transformer Prime really works!
Debugfs automated root from sparkym3 provided me full root access to my device. Its simple to use and does all stuff automatic
So it enables Users of the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet to finally root their device, even if you had it updated to ICS. As you all know, this was not possible before, but after I ran through almost all exploits running anywhere for ICS, I found this one working like a charm.
Have fun!
WARNING!
If you dont know the slightest bit of Windows or Linux shell and never did more than USE the device, be warned... If you kill it, its dead!

I confirm it works perfectly. ICS TPT _A400_03_0070_0132_US :good:
God, this is so wonderful. CWM works, Koshu's CM10 JB Firmware, too. I LOVE THE DEVICE AGAIN!
Great news! Who might have thought that a working exploit is already out there?
This is wonderful news, a friend of mine recently lost root after he had to send his TPT in for repair and got a new board already updated to ICS.
FANTASTIC - worked on UK running OTA 3.5
Booyah! Thanks Emuandco for your diligence!
Thank you. Had lost hope of root for ICS. My TPT may finally be the tablet I paid for.
22 hours and 5 badly needed factory resets were worth it ^^
Thanks a lot :good: :good: :good:
I just rooted my ThinkPad (WE version). Works like a charm.

Amazing how much of a difference having root on this tablet makes.:good:
Stylus and Pressure Sensitivity
Been waiting a long time for this. I had one question that I can't seem to find the answer to. I use my TPT for sketching, allot, it's why I bought the tablet. I was wondering, if I root and then upgrade to Jelly Bean, will I lose stylus and pressure sensitivity?
Can someone post the steps to get this working starting from a clean OTA 4.0.3 rom? I just started messing with the TPT. What boot options are there? I see the hold-down-rotate-and-power boot which looks like what is needed for nvflash, but I can't seem to get any other bootloaders booting here. The debugfs script seems to want to talk to a recovery boot, yes? How do I boot into recovery mode?
Sorry for the TPT newbie questions. Is there a wiki someplace with all the boot modes and other info?
First, load this one: LINK
Its the Driver needed for the TPT to communicate with the PC over ADB protocol.
Go to your TPT Settings below inside Developer Options and check USB Debugging. Attach to your PC and hand the new unknown Device in Device manager the loaded ADB Driver. Then download and unzip everything from the Exploit into a directory; then run RootDebugfs.bat from that directory. This should do it for the rooting of the Stock Firmware. You can verify it by getting "Root Checker" from Play Store. If its green, next load this one: LINK and this one LINK. Its the ClockWorkMod aka modded Recovery Mode making it possible to flash unsigned Updates and making nice Full Backups and the JB Firmware itself.
Install this way from a windows console bein inside the folder where the adb.exe from the exploit is, Step one is making a backup of your previous Recovery Mode for future reverting if you want to do so. Step two is the actual install. You need to copy the loaded recovery.img from the CWM thread to the SD in your TPT, same goes for the JB ZIP File and maybe the 3G Patch for the 3G Card you might have.
BE SURE ALL FILES ARE COPIED ON THE SD AND ITS INSIDE THE TPT AGAIN!
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 of=/mnt/external_sd/orig_recovery.img
mount -o rw,remount /system
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.backup
dd if=/mnt/external_sd/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
exit
exit
This should be enough. Now reboot and while the Lenovo mini Logo shows up, push Vol UP rapidly. This should boot up CWM6, our modded recover Mode. Here Vol UP is upwards, Vol DOWN is downwards and ON/OFF is Enter. First thing, DO A FULL BACKUP TO EXTERNAL SD in "backup and restore", "backup" !!! Then let it do a "wipe data/factory reset", then select "install zip from sdcard" and in there "choose zip from external sdcard". Choose the CM10 JB ZIP first, then the 3G Patch for your Card.
Reboot and youre done.
i have updated to the latest ota and i am not rooted.. A400_03_0070_0132_US

I have already tried that doesn't work. when in cmd i write adb devices it shows the device is connected
i have put it to transfer files and MTP settings with unknown sources and debugging on ..when i run the .bat file
after the *demon started successfully* it suddenly closes after which nothing happens..what do you think is wrong?
Open a CMD prompt and run the bat file from there. then show us the output of the script please.
AAND be sure that theres not any adb.exe coming from the system path variable, like in system32 or syswow64. kill these
