So I just played with an N1 for the very first time and must say I wish this phone had come to Sprint as planned a few months back.
While I love my Evo there's just something about the N1 I like more. The trackball for notifications is wicked and the size is just right. I love the size of the screen on Evo but after all this time I still can't get comfortable using it as a phone.
Anyone else wish the Nexus were available as a cdma?

Nexus/Evo same phone pretty much. The nexus has a amoled display and stock Android 2.2. Other than that the Evo is the same thing as the nexus pretty much just with a few upgrades and extras when it comes to hardware, so in actuality, you sort of already have a nexus one sort of on steroids

Wait until the N2 comes out then you'll really have phone envy. That thing is prime to be a benchmark just as the N1 was
I had the nexus 1 and gave it to my girlfriend when the evo came out. I am a sense lover so i liked the evo a lot when it came out. Stable Sense wasnt ported to the n1 at that time. Now though whenever i hold my girls n1 i am envious. It feels perfect in the hand. Yes i like the trackball too. great for typos in the middle of a sentence. all the different trackball notifications are great too. A differnt color for every scenario. i loved the N1 docks (home and car) too. The only thing i disliked about the n1 was the screen. While it looked great indoors, outside you couldnt see anything, I mean nothing at all. It was like the screen was turned off. the N1 has some crazy talented devs too. Cant wait till next week. Hopefully the Nexus 2 rumor isnt a rumor and it'll be available with gingerbread next week.
Yeah I felt the N1 its nice in hand but once you go 4.3 you cant go back.
I would give up my Evo for a Nexus One any day... I love that phone!!! =)
Still wish I could have one, but they are really hard to find and quite expensive! Even after all this time!

The nexus 2 isn't coming out next week >< I read where it was just delayed due to hardware issues.
Besides, it's made by samsung...so IMO either get a nexus 1 or stick with the evo.
The Nexus2 or Nexus S so its called... will likely not hold a candle to either. All the hype from Samsung about the galaxy S phones and none of them are all the good.... in fact I think they are just now getting froyo.. imagine how long it will take for them to get gingerbread... if they ever do!
Sorry for the rant, but IMO there will never be another phone as good as the nexus1

I'm with ya. I'm fairly anti-samsung when it comes to Android phones. They just feel cheap and have always had very limited support by the development community and Samsung themselves. Not very experienced with moto androids but HTC builds a pretty reliable Android phone.

+1 I love HTC phones, I will say that sometimes their build quality feels rushed.. but they pump out a lot of phones. My hero and evo have had great DEV support and HTC does a pretty decent job with updates.
Samsung, IMO, is the worst when it comes to quality, dev support and updates... it's just not a good idea to have samsung make a 2nd generation nexus IMO... so so sad
i cant say i like the galaxy series, the epic feels cheap and somewhat clunky to me, htc phones have their problems as well but i'd take htc over sammy any day, it seems crazy that just a few years ago htc was selling great phones left and right and still reporting quarterly losses, now they seem to be doing better then ever and it looks like they are really starting to step it up when it comes to developing sense, hopefully they will only pick up more steam
I had the nexus one the day it came out..payed the 529 plus tax n was loving it..it was a very snappy phone running cyanogen 5..update were awesome..trackball notificatons were cool..but basically the evo is the big brother of the nexus one..evo is the ROOT of HTC

I tried out the nexus one for 30 days on at&t early this year when I was still an iphone user and must say the N1 is the DAMN SEXIEST PHONE EVER MADE! I ended up sending mine back because I couldn't justify spending $500+ on a phone. Even though I still miss the hell out of that phone I'm not sure I could get up my evo's bigger screen and 4G data.

The botched touch screen was a serious deal breaker for me with the Nexus. I had one for a while, and I liked it, but I can't go less than 4.3 now. I just can't.
The only thing I love about the N1 is the fact that it gets lightning fast updates.
Engadget just posted an article starting the nexus one will be getting gingerbread in the next few days! That is one thing to admire about it
What about the kickstand! If the nexus had a kickstand and front facing camera .... oh boy I would be tempted to get it. (Again) had the nexus before got bored of vanilla. Just flash cyanogen 6.1 on the evo. There you go you have a nexus minus the trackball. I mean if I had a nexus that's the rom I would run. Might as well. Same same.

Dont hold your breath waiting this year for a nexus prime; I wouldn't expect that until next year some time. I think the photon, iphone 4s, htc kingdom, hero 4g, and some random wp7 mango phones are all thats coming out this year. At least that's the only phones we will care about lol. I cant prove this information im just stating rumors and info that leaked on other websites; it could all be false lol.
I dont know why but i have a weird feeling the sprint sgs2 is going to have a keyboard like the first galaxy did and the real galaxy s 2 (samsung within) is something entirely different.
FINALLY!
After almost three years of android phones, I'm bored as hell. Yeah my current G2x is near instant in almost every UI interaction, over 5000 quadrant, etc etc but Android itself is just boring at this point. I'm hoping something hardware wise can amaze me and renew my interest in Android, and I'm thinking the SAMOLED+ screen might be it.

I still have my 3D and yes im looking to sell it. Im currently in an htc arrive atm looking to purchase a better android device. I hate the 3D.
I wonder if this could be the 4.5" Hercules rumored for T-mobile, except for Sprint? Seeing as the dimensions are wider and taller than the international version. Could be just to make room for WiMax radios I guess.
So do you think we would be able to start using the custom ROMs that are already available for the international version when this one comes out?

Its hard to tell so early isnt it? probably could port. Idk man im stuck in a situation right now to even start thinking about that so early. I wanna sell my evo 3D, I still have my upgrade which means my contract is already expired, should I buy this with my upgrade? I planned on leaving sprint to get the iphone 5 so i dont know what to do! ahhh
I have upgrades available on two of my lines that I may be using if something truly intriguing comes out. After the track record that Samsung and Sprint have when it comes to system updates, I am probably not going for the SG2, as pretty and awesome as it is. I will see what comes out there.
Yea well cyanogen is already supporting the sgs2 or they have a couple and are developing cm for it I dunno I don't really keep up on it but it should be fully tweak able unlike the 3d(for now). I love my evo 4g but I think it's a good time to up my cores. Plus, HTC isn't earning any points by not sticking to their promises like releasing source code whenever they damn well please and the whole bootloader fiasco. All that just makes those samoled screens look even better. Wish they weren't all plastic but thats apparently how you have to make a thin phone. Just looks cheap for such an expensive piece of hardware.

Yeah the 3D is not my cup of tea either. Play around with it at the store and wasn't impress by it at all. Love my 4G but absolutely hate my video cam on it. Very very poor in low light (every custom rom available) compare to my Daughter's Epic and this SG2 which seem to probably be alot better then the 3D or any HTC in that department. So this might be my next phone as well if nothing else releases by then.

Yeah dude thats one thing about that sgs2, that thing is fully plastic and super light weight. I really like the metal/heavy phones!!! I would be scared to keep that phone in my pocket because its so plastic thin.
Now that the N1 is 'obsolete' and ICS isn't coming I feel as though it may be time to move on.
This may take a while though as I effectively have no money and the money I get from the N1 is the majority of what I can spend.
Basically the deal is that I can get either £85 quickly from a recycle site or no more than £100-120 selling my N1 and from Ebay I have found that for this with some lucky bidding I could get a nice used LG Optimus 2X or Motorola Atrix.
Not exactly the best N1 replacements but both have Tegra 2 and are good for the money.
This will be a depressing upgrade and I'll miss this forum but its time for my N1 to go.
If anyone in the UK has any hints for getting a cheapish replacement with better hardware please tell me. The limit is £120 really, thats all I can spare.
If I don't post between now and then, goodbye and thanks everyone!
Are you completely missing the thread on ICS AOSP going on over on the dev forum? They are making huge progress. In less than a week we'll have a strong working build... don't give up on the N1 yet!
Yeah sorry I have seen that thread and yes it's brilliant but I just seriously want to move onto another phone now. I've just suffered too many problems from the N1 and being denied ICS kinda tipped me over the edge.
In all fairness though it could take some time to get a replacement this way so I will be keeping involved with that thread.
But the N1 just isn't for me anymore...
If it were me then and I wanted to upgrade within that price range, the Atrix is a good choice... However, I would rather find a Nexus S though to upgrade to ICS sooner. The devs for that phone are making huge progress and it is now fully functional. I bet you could find a good condition used NS if you're interested, but know in advance that the specs aren't really that different than the N1. Well, good luck anyway...
I am in the same boat the denial of ICS for the n1, kinda set me off, only reason I am looking for a new phone. Luckily for my n1 I can't afford a new one for a while, and texasice and many other brilliant people have been working on a good soon to be fully stable and functioning build. I haven't tried alpha 8 or 9 yet. But was quite happy with them.
Problem is, I have yet to find a phone that I can even say is remotely a good replacement. I wanted the T-Mobile G2 to be it, but it was just way to big. Love the having the keyboard though.
But I know how you feel. I don't think anyone would buy mine, it slid down a roof screen down, and scratched up, a corner of the glass is broke (in an non multi-touch functioning area).
Best of luck to you in finding a home. Hopefully someone here would love to buy it. I would for my girlfriend, as she hates her Samsung Captivate. But I don't have no money too lol.
Maybe a tip -however, above your proposed budget: I'm in the same ship, leaving my (really loved!) N1 because of lack of ICS support from Google.
Here in the Netherlands you can get Nexus S for eur 250, simlock-free; as for me, the best choice at this moment. You can order one at different sites (belsimpel.nl, phoneshop.nl, etc), eur 250 for a Google phone, getting ICS update among the first looks me a good deal/ upgrade of my loved N1.
Why not wait for a new quad core phone? No point in buying other obsolete hardware like an atrix. I personally wouldn't get anything less than a Galaxy Nexus, and even that is dual core.
Just wait for a WXGA quad core phone. Your nexus still has life in it! I just switched to MIUI and that will keep me happy until ICS gets hardware acceleration. You will regret upgrading now in a few months.

Yeah sure if you can get the OP a quad core for £120 like he said he had available. I'm in the same boat myself and the Atrix is the only dual core for that price range. Even got me thinking about it but I hate the MotoBlur crap its infected with and not removable from what I've seen although can be somewhat hidden which makes me think Nexus S maybe my best option.
At least if your gonna give advice read the OP first properly before commenting.
Have you tried comparemymobile dot com?
Before you completely give up on your N1, I suggest you give the ICS cm9 ROM a try. It made me fall in love with my n1 all over again lol. The latest update is really fluid and stable. Well that is just my opinion, wouldn't hurt to try.

Yeah, if you're working on a budget, there is no practical reason to upgrade from the Nexus One.
If you can get a slightly better phone, it will not be worth it. Take your current budget and keep it in a safe place for the Nexus 4 next year. Right now you won't be getting your money's worth. And the Nexus One is a great phone that will have a good ICS rom soon.
I could spend the money to upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus, it's not so much a budget problem, but a practicality problem. My phone is great, and will last me another year.

The Nexus One really is the best of what is available within our price range, I just really don't like the styling of the Nexus S and its cheap arse casing and for what I gain it is not enough to tear me away from my trackball colour notifications
So for me I'm gonna buy it a Christmas present of a brand new housing and feel happy knowing that although considered 'old' now she still has the legs to more than stand her own.
Nexus S +s:
nfc?
Google talk video/voice chat?
Short term ICS?
Still with my N1

I agree with you. My 2 year's old N1 tastes ICS (thanks to blackrose and texasice!!). A new beginning without any cost!! Don't care if google doesn't support, devs are here to do the job and it's a great job. Thanks to all of them. Just have to wait few more days (Christmas present?) to have a beta version but alpha11 is quite good!
So, it's been a hell of a year. Just 1 year ago, we were talking about how awesome Gingerbread would be. And now look where we are.Tons of ROMs, the latest and greatest always at our fingertips, the first shot at ICS, and now Gingerbread is.....well, that OLD system that others use . The superb kernels, the undervolting, the backlight notifications, deep idle, the list goes on.
Anyways, tomorrow, Dec 16th, marks the 1st birthday of the Nexus S.
Everyone celebrate and crackflash yourself the latest ICS kang.
Aww I remember lining up to get it on the first day!!!

Don't bash the screen size until you actually try one out in person
Nexus S is still a great phone, don't get me wrong on that.
Just after using a big screen for 5 minutes, it gets me addicted to it
Keep in mind that its not actually 4.65" fully... a portion of that screen size is used for screen navigation buttons. So it scales down to 4.5ish" maybe?
I will be getting the GN regardless of ICS for NS4G but I will be getting it when a 3rd party company sells it for $100
I dont justify spending more than $100 on a phone regardless let alone $600
Its a recession!! lol
OK I give if I didnt have to pay rent ($600 is almost what I pay lol) I would get the GSM international one and put it on TMO (or att not sure)

$100 for a non-contracted phone? good luck! that could happen in 2013-2014 but not anytime soon lol.
I bought the Galaxy Nexus for $685 from Negri Electronics. Actually pretty satisfied with it but it was really hard to justify the purchase, but once I started using it... I just felt like that was how the Nexus S of should of been day one because Nexus S was released when dual-cores were already making their way to phones.

I've held and used one. I don't have impish hands or anything but I find the GN to be just barely too large for comfortable one-handed operation.
The larger screen is nice and I'd LOVE to have more pixel real estate but for me the Nexus S is the ideal chassis size. Plus, I have a 10" tablet so the larger screen on the phone is less appealing.

Yeah I have a tablet too (same one you have actually). I guess the thing that really enticed me was the 720p HD display with the resolution.
The resolution was the big seller for me with 1280x720. Everything just looked less cluttered. But definitely agree with you on that part that with one hand it feels a bit weird but the GN feels better in the hand. Hopefully it will become more comfortable over time as I have a case coming in.

Also, whoever wants to talk about these new phones and how they compare to the Fascinate you can do so ( but please be respectful and considerate; a lot of us do not have the chance or means to upgrade to a new phone in the near future).

Went into verizon and played with both those phones. Color me unimpressed with both. I wouldn't get either of them for a penny if that meant being stuck with it for 2 years. Hopefully something worth a damn will eventually be released on verizon.

You can't possibly be serious. The gnex, razr and rezound are just by virtue of their hardware far superior to what's been released before.. ( although I was disappointed with the rezound). Not to mention ICS takes android to a new level; now ios looks definitely very small in android' s rear view mirror.

While I agree these new devices are far superior hardware wise, they sure as hell dont seem 300.00 worth better. Look at the display, the super amoled plus and hd's have a blueish hue to the screen. The regular super amoled has so much truer whites. I could see upgrading to a gnex for 100-150, but not 300. Ill hold off till its cheaper...

I could justify $200 seeing as that's what my Fascinate cost. That has a lot to do with jt's ICS giving my handset an extended lifetime
Rezound + Droid RAZR + locked bootloaders = FAIL!!!
Has anyone seen John Connor?

Absolutely. I'm waiting for the wire fly special. Not paying a penny over 150 for any phone

Well ... the fascinate's hardware runs everything on the phone perfectly fine.... and physically looks better than any of the phones in the verizon store right now (f'ing ugly stuff).
I could only justify getting the nexus just for the development aspect, but I'm still enjoying what's going on with the fascinate. plus I think the fascinate looked better still.

I'll give you that one. The fascinate is a great looking phone and the only camera better than the TW camera is the one from the gnex.
But when it comes to phone performance TW leaves a lot to he desired.
I have the chance of getting an inc2 next week for a great price. I was playing with it yesterday and even bloated stock it puts our phone to shame.

I'm definitely jumping on the Nexus, but I'll wait a month. I'm sure the deals will start after Christmas. $150 is my max that I'll go for a phone. There's no reason to overpay.

samsung has gone native ext4 for its sgs2 phones and im sure will stay the same going forward
performance wise, the sgs2 is still probably the best phone available (oem skin and os version aside)
i personally look forward the the first lte ics tw device to grace verizon and assuming a sense ics lte device doesnt drop first...then thats what i imagine myself getting in q1 or q2 (or whenever either drops)
til then ill stick with my inc2 and fascinate...i enjoy aosp on occasion but long term would be bored with just that

SGS3, expected global launch March-April 2012.
Rumored specs: Super AMOLED Plus HD (no pentile), dual-core 1.8Ghz Exynos proc, and the ICS version of TouchWiz is expected to be much lighter on the OEM skin customizations.
Has anyone seen John Connor?
rumor has it that US Cellular is getting the gnex and tablets, in like Q1 2012. So you guys have me until that comes out and I can convince my parents to get the upgrade, at which time I'll probably give this phone to my sister.
