Kindle Fire's multitouch - Kindle Fire General

Hi!
Oddly, I havent been able to find much info on this... The kindle fire only supports 2-finger multitouch! : S
This has been one of the biggest letdowns for me with my new KF. This means not only that we can't use a decent piano-simulator app (or any other music apps that require 5 or more fingers at once), but also that videogame emulation sucks :S Imagine playing super mario bros without being able to jump while dashing (since this requires simultaneously pressing the d-pad, the B button and the Y button). Or not being able to do all the cool Z-Targeting moves in Zelda OOT or Majora's.
The kindle is awesome for emulators, especially PSX and N64, but without this functionality (pressing more than 3 fingers at a time) and without being able to plug a keyboard or joistick, it is almost unusable
Does anyone know if this issue is fixable via software? Maybe different drivers in a custom ROM or a future amazon official update...

Bump? Does anyone know?

That's exactly what I wanted to post right now.
I used the app Touch Test to check this and also could only use 2 (two) touch points at once.
Would be interesting to know if this also an Amazon software fail or if this is a hardware limitation.
EDITs below
Touchscreen controller chip: ILITEK 2107QS001K (A95B8F416 A2130B002)
The last two strings are potentially production-/batch-specific numbers as they vary between chips (see sources below).
Sources:
Step 15 @ ifixit teardown
Image 31 @ TechRepublic teardown
Currently further research in progress if I can find out what the chip supports.
FINAL EDIT
Posted a thread in the development section: [Request] kernel source Forensics: enable more than two touch points

Chainfire3D- Intermediary OpenGL Driver (Boosts GPU Performance)

Xda-developers forum member Chainfire has released an impressive new graphics utility for Android called Chainfire3D. He describes it as an “intermediary OpenGL driver” which can change commands sent from an app to your graphics driver. That allows you to do things like play games that require a specific graphics driver on unsupported hardware. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Here are a few things Chainfire3D can do:
NightMode reduces the number of colors on your display to save battery life on an OLED screen or make a screen easier to view in low-light settings.
Reduce texture resolutions by half, which can reduce memory use and improve performance when rendering 3D graphics.
Convert 32-bit textures to lower quality 16-bit textures.
Use plugins to emulate NVIDIA Tegra 2, PowerVR, or ATI graphics and report to the Android Market that your phone has that hardware (so you can download apps that normally require Tegra 2, for instance).
In order to use Chainfire3D you’ll need a rooted phone with a 1 GHz or faster processor. The software has been tested on a number of phones including the Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola Atrix 4G, Motorola Droid 2, and Google Nexus S.
Some games may not play properly even with Chainfire3D installed, and there’s a chance that you won’t get the same kind of graphics performance that you would with a real NVIDIA Tegra2 processor, but many users are reporting that they’re not seeing any real problems with Tegra-specifica games running on non-Tegra devices.

http://mobiputing.com/2011/05/chainfire3d-graphics-driver-for-android-can-boost-graphics-performance-reduce-battery-drain/
Description
!! Android 2.1 and newer, NOT for Honeycomb !!
Chainfire3D is an intermediary OpenGL driver. What does that mean? It means that Chainfire3D sits between your apps and the graphics drivers, and can intercept and/or change commands between the two. It has some built-in functions, and can be further extended with plugins to provide extra functionality.
!! Chainfire3D is for 1ghz+ devices only !!
!! ROOT is required for this program, as well as a writable /system partition. S-OFF is also required on HTC devices !!
Features include reducing texture size and quality to reduce memory use and potentially increase game performance, as well as increasing memory use potentially increase performance.
Be sure to check the thread on XDA for available plugins !
Chainfire3D has been tested on:
- HTC HD2
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7"
- Samsung Galaxy S II
- Samsung Epic 4G
- Motorola Atrix 4G
- Motorola Droid 2
- LG Optimus 2X
- Google Nexus S
It's likely to work on far more devices. So far nobody has reported a failed install, so that's good. Doesn't mean problems can't happen.
!! There is some risk involved installing the driver. If you have CWM, it would be prudent to create a backup before installing !!

Did you set it up to drop the image quality for that specific app (or drop the quality in the global settings)? Not doubting your knowledge but we all do things like that at times
Anyway, as far as running and not causing any fc's that I've seen over the past 24 hours the drivers are stable. As far as working, I guess we'll just have to do some more testing.
I DLed this last night and have not had any FCs. I have the CF3d driver installed but no options checked. I will need to play some games and play with settings to se what this does for or phones. Anybody gory any suggestions for games to try?

I don't know about pro-vs-free for tegra games but you need plugins to make it work regardless. They're attached at the bottom of the post in the link. Credit goes to the op.

Playing Mario Party 3?

So I got a Nexus 7, and it's pretty cool.
I downgraded to 4.1.2 so I could use the Wii classic controller.
ANYWAYS. I downloaded the three top N64 emulator from the google store, N64oid, Mupen+ and something else...
Anyways, trying to play Mario Party 1, 2, or 3 and it runs at full speed. The game runs okay during the setup, but once you get into play, the sprites disappear and the spots on the board are all moved around and off the path of the actual map.
It's not a frame rate issue, it's graphical glitches.
I'm just wondering if there is any way of fixing it? Is there a setting I can change, or a different type of rom or emulator I need?
Any help would be great.
If you're wondering, yes, I do own a physical copy of Mario Party 1, 2, and 3. Going on a trip soon and would love to play it along the way.
Thanks guys!

Is that a setting on the emulator itself? And to which emulator may you be referring? Thank you.
I tried playing mario party 2 and everything was just flickering, using N64oid.
Bump? Anybody else having this issue and or resolved it? It's a pretty popular n64 game, I'm actually kinda surprised it hasn't been discussed.

Connect your Moga in Mode B. Once connected, start an app/game that you want to create a profile for. Once in the game, long press the Start button and overlay will appear on screen. Part of the overlay will be a toolbar with various icons on. Drag the function you want to assign to the screen and place it where you want (LS = left stick for example). Once you have placed something on screen, long pressing it will bring up a menu that allows you move the item or select other functions. For the analogue sticks you can use buttons Y and A to increase or decrease the size of the stick which will change the way it responds in game. Trial and error

Cool
I was hoping to use the mapper with Modern Combat 3 but for some reason the Kit Kat update seems to have killed that particular game - it crashes after checking the licence which is really annoying...
I'm having a weird issue where I have to move the analogue stick up and down for left and right when a game map is in use. Is there a setting somewhere which will correct this?
UPDATE:
Figured out it's just on Real Racing 3 (I haven't got many games installed yet) and I presume it's down to the gyroscope problem which TN7 owners seem to have.
Hopefully RR3 will get a fix for that. Quite annoying though, as using the analogue stick on mapping instead doesn't seem to fully turn the virtual steering wheel so I can't get round corners, ha!

In case anyone is still interested, RR3 implemented controller support into the game. My Moga Pro works well.
The only issue is after the last OTA update from nvidia, the game is pretty much unplayable. All audio is horrifically choppy and the game feels a bit laggy too.
To say I'm really cheesed off is an understatement. I do love that game

Not really sure what forum rules are here but the official way to get roms is to 'rip them yourself'. Googling dreamcast roms should give you more information.
How to get the best out of your reicast
I came across an issue that im not sure you guys have come across yet, but previously we had to put games on 50hz to let some of them run.
Now that we have This box running a real GPU, we can run games at true full speed by putting it on 60hz getting you 60 fps.
Im using a non powered usb hub with my Dual Shock 4 Controller Wired and a usb mouse with no issues.
Strangely, games that do not provide the option like the american version of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 USA are locked at 50hz unless you get a jap ntsc version. You may want to test this out by turning on the FPS option to see if thats causing your gameplay lag.
The other issue is that Sonic Adventure and Marvel Vs Capcom both give Kernel Panics.
Have you guys experienced this?

This is great news!! Man I actually just pulled my Dreamcast out of storage the other day for some Berserk....very very cool that the Fire TV can play this well. I know this isn't EXACTLY where we should post these things, but can you guys sort of put a compatibility list together with what games you played and how they worked? Thanks again for bringing this to my attention.
There is a WIP compatiblity list at http://wiki.reicast.com/index.php/Reicast_Compatibility_List
It's a little outdated, most of the results are from r5 at the latest. There *are* some issues with Reicast r6 and Qualcomm chips that people have reported, but I've had no issues with it on my Nexus5.
Most of their testing is on Tegra4 (Shield) because nVidia actually gave them one to support the project.
Some controllers, like the Moga supposedly don't work right with r6 either.
r7 is supposed to be coming soon, though. Not sure what all that'll bring.
Games that for sure don't work: ANYTHING that's WinCE based, because there's no MMU support in the emulator.

That's awesome thank you. I didn't see the Berserk game listed but I'm guessing it's probably not compatible yet. Very neat that they're doing this though. I remember NBA2k and Virtua Tennis were the jam!
The 360 controller seems to work beautifully on the FireTV.
As far as emulators, sideload and see. RetroArch runs I think, which handles a lot of systems.
There's another thread on this topic IIRC.
I posted about SuperN64 no longer being in the Play Store, and gave out some links to it in a different thread.
It works excellently,even with HQ4X.
The main one to get normally is Mupen64Plus AE Free, but that one is a bit slower than SuperN64.
The only downside with SuperN64 is the ads when exiting the app, which are sometimes video ads,but you
can just cancel them out with the Home button.
Here is information about SuperN64 and the developer name which is also there.

Stupid advertisement link spamming a-holes.
Long time,nobody posting.
Why?
I got another "link" to show here.
h**t**t**p://xmryadro.ru/reicast/
Remove stars and bolded x to get the link.
I fail at using google search to find it directly for easy access on Fire TV.
The page is a list of debug version APKs of Reicast you can download.
One of them is fom the 27th of this month. (two days ago)
I grabbed the 5/27 debug build and tested it with SA2 which causes reboots.
Apart from the pure BULLSH** of lacking analog mapping support,I did manage to beat City Escape in Interpreter and Software modes which ran quite fast considering that it is interpreter.
It did not freeze up for several seconds like recompiler does.
The problem is that it STILL rebooted after the results screen ends and the next part starts loading. (F-king HATE Qualcomm)
I used a 700MB+ CDI image of Sonic Adventure 2 for this test.
I wish that the NullDCe Android Alpha 0.1 would successfully boot SA2 gdi so I can see if the performance is half decent.
Even though there is no hard button input at all and that the screen shrinks to match a phone's resolution.
I wish that Chankast or Makaron would get ported to Android so we can see if they will not cause rebooting.
Though I did reply in the Reicast Forums with an idea for Reicast to have an underclocked core setting to make it not reboot on Qualcomm devices.
The only reason reicast runs so well is due to a new arm dynarec core and a lot of streamlining overall, which NullDCe lacks.
The issues with SA2 are known, I believe, as well as controller problems that ended up broken in r6.
Chankast isn't open IIRC, and NullDC has far better compatibility anyway. Reicast is the evolution of NullDC, but a lot is having to be rebuilt from scratch, and plans to eventually be even better that NullDC is.
Also, Qualcomm's a *****. Their GPU drivers are among the worst nowadays.
Good info on issues is going to be on the project's github, in the issues tracker.
angelxwind has a buildbot for the project as well, which should have the latest buildable package here: http://reicast.angelxwind.net/?page/downloads
Remember that this is something a few people are doing in their spare time. They're not getting paid, they're not charging for the app. It's a bloody miracle that it works as well as it does.

I wouldn't load them the way you are thinking of. What you need to do is put all of your Dreamcast ROMS into a folder on your PC and share it out to your network. Now get on your FTV and download ES File Manager and go to the "network" tab. Plug in the IP address of your PC creating the link between the FTV and your PC. Now you should be able to click on the PC icon in ES File Manager and see the folder that you shared out earlier. Now it is just a matter of copying and pasting the ROMS folder wherever you need them to be on your FTV.
So basically you are "pulling" your data from your PC to your FTV instead of "pushing" from your PC to your FTV. You have WAY more control over where your files end up on your FTV this way.
Bump for pleas of getting Reicast to have a workaround for sucky Qualcomm drivers.
