i'm looking for..... - Hero, G2 Touch General

hi,
i'm looking for a great rom.
i don't want to flash my phone 20. times .....
actually i use Villain Rom Froyd1.7.3 but i'm not very happy about battery life.
has anyone good experience with a costum rom concerning battery life?

Try Floyo 1.2 with flykernel.
Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk

HTX Zero .21 is working almost perfectly for me, with awesome battery life (on my very old Hero)….but it has 3 issues. (that don't bother me AT ALL, and might be why batt life is so good)
3G goes off when you haven't used the phone in a while…(i.e when I wake up in the am)
Weather doesn't push automatically (if you're a true sense lover like me)
Gmail also doesn't push automatically.
But so far I just made a "mobile connection" shortcut..1 click and I'm back in business. However, this is probably why I have such awesome battery life...

After couple good roms I must admit that I'm only with our little Hero thank's to Decked_X

SE Stock Rom Advantage!

Hello All,
I noticed there are a lot of posts regarding Battery Usage & Optimization...
I tried many many combinations of custom roms, basebands and kernels and I always face the same battery problem especially when 3G/MobileData is switched on.
I admit that Sony Ericsson gave us a ****ty stock rom with poor kernel however It's still the best rom in managing battery usage.
I made a small comparison on Stock rom VS Custom roms with 3G/MobileData left switched-on and I found the following:
Custom rom(s): battery drain down very fast it goes for 100% to 1% in less than 8 hours (normal apps installed)
Stock rom: battery lasts for 2-3 days with normal daily phone usage (same apps installed as i did in custom rom)
Please share your opinions.
Thanks,
Ayman
I don't agree at all...
Custom roms can have just as good, if not better, battery life.
I personally think this was a good idea. Nice post and info. Just curious, how long did you do this study with the data you got?

hey guys, i too have this issue, i dnt know if its device specific. ive had the phone since march(2010) last year and have been modifying it with the great mods that the devs hav given us. everytime i install a custom rom i just get unusual battery drain, like yesterday, i followed instructions to the letter and installed tripnravers miuifroyo 1.0.8 and i lost 10% battery in like 20 minutes n ive hardly used it :-(. so nowadays i stick wiv a modified stock 2.1(ewjet to b exact). im gna buy a new battery and see if i get the same results. i really wna use a custom(2.2+)rom but the battery problems are really putting me off, theres so many people out der that arent really having ny battery drain whcih jus dus my head

Thanks Voelker BTW this is my first Thread in XDA, I used to use SE 2.1 stock rom till the first stable Froyo custom rom came out. I switched to Froyo then I started to notice this around 4 months ago and I tried many combination and a lot of optimizations to find out the best one although Stock rom was always better.
@fiscidtox:
I love Foryo and GB much much more than Eclair I currently on CM6 v6 Wolfbreak
Could you please tell me how the battery lasts on your custom rom while MobileData is left switched-on?
Thanks,
Ayman
I get a full day..
If you mean stock with no tweaks then maybe it would last longer, but a lot of that would be not having jit enabled...

You must be doing something wrong!
10% in 20 mins isn't normal.
I'm sure if you left it settle this would rectify itself though.
I think the biggest advantage of the stock kernel so far is stability, but the ongoing development for the custom kernel is sucessful to implement some problems such as battery drain caused by unability to go into deep sleep etc..
I never understood needing more than 24 hours on a charge. Charge it while you're sleeping you wont be using it then anyway.
Even if you like the 2.1 Stock ROM for any reason (Stability,Battery, etc) and don't like all these awesome 2.2 and 2.3, you should at least use Eric's JET ROM which is based on the original ROM has no stability issues and has faaaaar better battery life.
But seriously, I`m using Custom ROMs since the first 2.2 ROM by Z and never even cared to get back to the stock ROM.
When I use Wifi custom roms have almost the same battery life as the stock rom. But since I can't connect to wifi at work on any custom rom, im forced to use 3g.. and I need to charge my phone twice a day with almost no usage.

can't wait till gingerbread comes out. if the performance is like the arc then I will just stick with the stock rom.

Let it settle for at least two days to see improvement.
Your battery needs to adjust, much like letting your phone build a cache, in order to really see how the rom will effect anything.
Im using the stock rom and my battery lasts a maximum of 2 days with this tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934486
I dont use 3g at all and i use wifi sometimes (session lasts only 10 mins or so)
Brightness is set to "middle" also
Sorry dont agree..
I use wolfbreaks latest rom with the undervolt module.
Juice defender only enables my wifi when i am at home...all other times i have data on with facebook sync.
I now get the same battery life as i did on stock 2.1
Currently I have been unplugged for 1day and 12 hours and I am still at 38%.

Best 2.1 ROM for battery

Hi, as I said, Im looking for a 2.1 rom with all the tweaks to improve battery life, and the reason why I want a 2.1 is because I need a full working camera, including zoom.
At the moment Im trying Bitsnaker 2.1. Any recommendations?

Sorry for the obvious answer but it will be SE stock if you want 2.1
However,
The ROM I am on has fully functional camera and great battery life.
(40+ hours on my last full charge)
Just go for wolfbreaks rom, but not yet, wait a bit, he is about to release v007!!!
I haven't tried it myself but I hear erickwill's EWJet Rom is very good.
Definitely Erickwill's EWJet ROM! The best 2.1 ROM
ERICK WILL EXV010 ALL THE WAY
Hey guys ive been doing some battery tests on this rom and i will soon upload screenshots on erickwills thread. But anyway right now the battery is at 44% and phone has been unplugged for 4 days and 5 hours, that is by using 2g, alot of texting ( about 100 texts), phone calls (normal use), playing some apps, using wifi, having the alarm clock on, and using 3g for about 2 hours. Now You Tell Me If Thats Good, Cause I Think : IT IS THE BEST 2.1 ROM EVERRRRR
I have to disagree with gregbradley since I flashed SE rom and I keep losing battery without using it.
I used to have Wolf CM installed until now, because WB rom doesnt have fully working camera, lack of zoom, and several fc on camera.flashed twice and notihng.apart from that that rom is great for battery too,its my daily rom.
Just because I need the damn camera,I heard good coments about Erik will rom and it's bugging me..now I still have Bitsnacker rom, its not bad and looks great but EW's rom is a tease,I heard it doesnt include the SE option to download APN settings?just because he thinks he can use those 7mb in something else...not happy with that.
I try EwJet rom, it is very good for battery life but it is not compatible with my MW600 bluetooth handset It has some bugs.
I'm using kx10 rom + Undervolt module v3 now.
My battery level is %50 now. My phone has been unplugged for 1 days and 12 hours, that is by using 2g, alot of texting ( about 50 texts), phone calls (20 min), playing some apps, using wifi, having the alarm clock on, and listening music with bluetooth device (about 2 hours)
Seems like a good rom! Gonna try it out since wolfbreak was draining my battery so fast! And im having issues with trips roms and proximity sensors
Sent from my X10 TripNMiUI using XDA App
try BitSnacker V2
EWJet!!! this is the best for battery.
I also use Erickwill's EWJet ROM, with ArcLauncher - all the works very quickly, as for 2.1 version of Android.

Hi everybody,
as new user I cant post on the right post. So I ask you directly
I would like to test the new 2.3 with the Wolf's TW GB (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192988) but I saw some people who had problems with battery autonomy.
I run, right now, the 2.1.A.0.435 and I'm really satisfied about the battery. My X10 is on for 40 hours and I got 74% battery. Yes, I don't use it very much but it's enough for me.
So I wanna know how the battery usage is with the Wolf's rom and if I can test it without being disappointed.
P.S.: sorry for my ugly english
I cant speak for all users but my battery drains very fast. I dont know why, but might its because I often use wifi and my screen brightness is set to maximum.

Doooooooh, using wifi and screen brightness to the fullest drain battery. on my side i can tell you that wolf's rom with the hotfix is perfect. I can go through the day easy with screen brightness to half, no wifi, im on 3g all time, listening 2 hours a day some music while playing Asphalt 5 on my way to work. So yes battery is ok as long as you don't use to much wifi and bluetooth.

from what ive learned in the year or so ive been using android phones is that everyones battery experience is different. I find 3g drains my battery and wifi doesnt. All you can do is try it for yourself.
Wolf's TW battery is suburb for me ;-) i moderately use my wifi, Bluetooth, brightness, etc.

May I ask a question, with all due respect to everybody's work?
Why would you use a modified stock ROM,
be it WB's or anyone elses, since we have root, which means that you can tweak the stock ROM to your needs?
I mean, it's one thing to have CM ROMs or MiUI ROMs or vanilla Android,
but a modified stock ROM is still stock people!
I much prefer to make tweaks on my own, remove what I don't need, etc.
Just my 2 cents.
Again, I mean no disrespect, WB has been doing an elaborate job on his ROMs.
my battery lasts twice with 2.33, (i was before on WB froyo), with normal use 16 hours 50% at the end of my long day.
so battery life is awesome, i think is becouse is not as smooth in some games and apps.

not everyone can invest the time to learn the tweaks, and WB is based on CM isnt it? anyways i am loving the battery on my stock GB, will probably root it to get titanium to work and remove some of the bloatware, Ive used WB 2.2 but the battery really sucked, tried alot of BBs but didnt manage to fix the drain
You should really try-out this ROM. It has speed tweaks/battery tweaks ported from another devices. This is the only ROM for the x10 with these tweaks.
I am using WB's rom with FIX005. The battery not drain very fast.
At least I can use it for whole day.

Yeah, but learning how to mod your phone is half the fun!!
Anyway, it's good that there are options and I know WB makes really
fast ROMs, his 2.2 was very snappy and stable.
However, what I've been trying to point out is that WB's 2.3.3
is not CM, it's stock SE ROM, tweaked.

I would try WB's ROM, but I'd like to keep my RAM management more balanced and flexible, because I need a lot of apps to run in the background and not being killed.
Anyway, again, no offence to anybody.

I can tell you that there are there alot of apps in the background running that are not being killed. Much more then on Froyo/Eclair. So what stops you from trying it out?!
The most important ones I got running are:
- WhatsApp
- MSN Talk Pro
- Google Talk
- Facebook
- Seesmic
- LiveProfile
- KikMessenger
- Skype
- Viber
- Data Monitor
- DSP Manager
- Equalizer
- SwiftKey
- Widgetsoid
- Beautifull Widgets
And much more...
And none of them have ever been killed, they all worked fine! Battery life is also great! They are always running in the background. (If in your case the apps are being killed to fast, there is a way to tune it down to what you want!!)

Hey in hotfix5 there is GoogleTalk1.3 which support videochat. Does this work on the x10?
Edit: Doesnt work, I always get a fc when i klick on the camera-symbol
I will test that, right now

3 hours unplugged, and little to no use, and my phone is down 40%
So my phone is using way more power than it had under 2.1 I'm going to guess that it has to do with the baseband, and localization for me.
I switched from Wolf's 2.2 / 009 to 2.3 / 005 on my business phone. 3 hrs music per day (that's the time I need from home to office) many phone calls, gaming, testing, playing. I've to charge once a day. Think that is not to bad.

[Q] Which ROM

Hi
It has been a long time since I have visited XDA. I am still new to custom ROMs. I installed VR12 with a lot of help from fellow members about a year ago. I am now looking for a change of ROMs. I do not use facebook, twitter, stocks, gmail etc. I basically use my Hero as a normal phone and approx 1 hour internet a day (Opera mini). I am trying to find a balance between speed and battery life. I am not too fussed with sense. I am not up to speed with current roms. I am basically after a reliable fast rom with good battery life. I want to try a ROM without sense. Is a rom without sense better on battery life?
Any feedback is appreciated
Regards,
Riyaz
If you want speed, go Vanilla Eclair. It's just awesome Batterylife is really good as well, many people report better batterylife on this one than on the newer one, though I get a bit better on Froyo roms. Installing Juice Defender can greatly increase your battery time. If you want a newer rom, I recommend Elelinux Speedmachine but nothing comes near VE in speed and performance
try VR13 also...it's very fast. When you go from sense to a stock rom you get a kick because you get used to some features and sometimes miss them... You can also try a GB rom an d see how it works.

DesireZ ICS Battery life, is yours worse?

Hi all,
Just wondering if your all seeing reduced battery life with the ICS builds for the DesireZ?
I was using Miui (2.x) and now trying out Ice Cream JIBWich, and Im discovering the battery life is most certainly less. I've also tried CM9 Alpha and Andromedus r13, all roughly the same.
Battery Widget reports on average 40(ish)mA in sleep, I havent compared it to Miui but just wondering I've done something wrong here..
Install procedure this time was a factory wipe.
Comments?
Angelo
I don't know if my battery life is worse on ICS than on CM or stock 2.3. Because I don't have any logs of battery life. Maybe I will do some tests in next week, just for curious.
So... I'm getting 30mA - 34mA drain on idle on Andromadus v13 with default kernel. It is lower than yours. I'm using latest radio now (.19).
After implementing new features and fixing bugs, there is a stage of development called optimization. That is when you will see all the battery life milked out of a rom.
And none of the ICS roms are even close to that stage, so battery will probably not be indicative of the final product.
I don't have any hard numbers, but based on my moderate usage, (8am to 11pm) I go from 100% to about 40%. Fairly good IMO when compared to sense roms (that i'm used to) but not as good when compared to AOSP GB or MIUI roms..
Hmm I found my battery doing suprisingly well compared to aosp gb, now that I'm using ics its lasting longer than ever.
It probably has to do with better app/process management.
That's my experience..
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA
Well, this might sound strange to say but i'm actually getting the best battery life i've ever had out of ICS so far with Andromadus v13/Jibwich 1.3 on my phone. I seem to manage to get really long charges of at least 48 hours. Maybe i'm not using my phone as much as i was with GB? I'm not quite sure if that's the case or not, but i'm consistently getting longer lasting charges than ever before with GB.
Thing is though that ICS ROMs DO seem to drain the battery more while the phone is actively being used (in comparison to AOSP GB ROMs), this seems to be the case for me, as well as some other people that i've seen.
There were a few strange versions of Andromadus and Jibwich though which seemed to cause severe battery drain for me. Fortunately, that hasn't been the case with any of the latest versions.
All of that said, i still don't think anything compares to the battery life on G2 Slim (Gingerbread AOSP ROM), that ROM has ridiculously good battery life. With that one, i'd use my phone a fair bit (couple hours of tethering, gaming, lots of texting and calls) and it would still last for at least 44 hours or so.
In the end though, there are still some GB ROMs that have much worse battery life than ICS for me. For example, all CM7 variants that i've tried has always had this frustrating radio related battery drain, then some Sense ROMs seem to drain the battery a bit more than AOSP ROMs too. In response to the OP, i never really got amazing battery life with MIUI, so ICS has been a much better experience so far in that regard.
What i do know for sure though is that battery life with ICS is MUCH better than the stock gingerbread OTA update that our phones got.
thanks all,
I've done some checking and according to battery monitor, my JIBWIch rom seams to be fluctuating .. from 36mA to 97mA in standby which to be indicates something's running.. not sure what... Anyone recommend a decent process monitor, there's soo many of them

Agreed..
I'll see how it goes but I might have to go back to Miui (GB) as I use the phone for work..

Here was my (personal) record breaking charge on Andromadus v13 https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/12263406/1/screenies?h=c9ef42
You can see part of my configuration there (radio and CPU speeds).
On top of what's already there, i use supercharger RC6.9 with option 6 and nitro-lag-nullifier.
here are my usage patterns for good battery life:
-I generally stick to 2g networks as i don't do much web browsing while i'm out but when i do, i just switch to 3g.
-I also don't regularly use any task killers but if i detect any choppyness i kill app using Advanced Task Killer.
-I don't use auto-brightness and instead i just use the notification power widget.
-I do lots and lots of texting, some calls here and there, i often use wifi hotspot and i play 2d games a little bit at times, so i'm generally a light-moderate user.
-I also "debloat" as much as possible by getting rid of any system apps that i don't use.
On a random note, right now, i'm using Jibwich 1.3 and it is so great, battery life seems the same as andromadus v13 but this ROM is actually much more smooth and fluid on the home screen.
I hope this helps a bit, give me a thanks if you found this useful ;D
hey thanks for this, yeah very nice!
Just occured to me, im currently in Madrid (Roaming), and the phone's on 2g at the moment, I WONDER.. just wonder, if its constantly hunting for 3G signal.. now that would account for the random power demands...
Meanwhilst I found this app http://androidadvices.com/save-battery-android-phone-enabling-2g-network/
Apart from adding a 2g/3g toggle it also makes the phone go to 2g when sleeping.. I mean when its sleeping we dont need 3g access....
Anyone else tried it? or can recommend a different better/app?

Go to settings --> wireless and networks --> mobile networks
Now see if you have "use only 2g networks" checked. If you do, that'd be why you're always connecting to 2g networks.
As a battery saving tip, it's best to always check that option when you don't need mobile data (like when you're at home and wifi is available).
In addition to that, if that option is NOT checked, then your phone will connect to 3g networks where applicable, you have to check if your carrier actually uses 3g networks on your plan.
Also that app seems fine, but i wouldn't use the "use 2g when sleep" option because that could cause problems with reception between waking and sleeping because it'll be erratically switching between basebands all the time.

It looks to me that yes. Tried 3 ICS inluding JIBWich and CM9 based and battery life was reduced to me about 1/3 maybe 1/4. looks like that. Hope some improovment will come in near future.
I'm running Andromadus v13 and it seems to be only a bit worse than the latest CM7 nightly. However, this is only my subjective opinion, it could be that I'm using my phone more with ICS
I also have the .19 radio and the tweaks associated with v13.
Well from what i've seen, ICS has very steep and sudden drops in the battery stats graph when the phone is being used. This is in contrast to many gingberbread ROMs which just have a sloping negative curve on the battery stats graph. This seems to indicate that ICS uses more battery when the phone is being actively used.
I'll post pics after this current charge is over to show a comparison of ICS battery life with Andro v13 and GB battery with Virtuous G-lite 2.0.1.
I don't see any difference between GB and the ICS battery usage, maybe because i allways configure it from begining and don't restore apps via titanium backup or any other app...
Also battery needs to calibrate under new ROM and after few charges you will see it working little bit longer and longer...
ps. Do you have disabled Google Talk on ICS fresh install? He is always on after installing and eats a lot of battery.

I also configure all new rom's from begining and on Affinity 2 - my battery in averange usage die after ~16h but on ISC os about ~13h, I don't know why.
My battery after full charge get 4.212 V , tried clear battery stats bin no effect
My avg runtime on one charge on CM7 w/o oc, with ilwt or pershoot kernel is 60hours (yes! 3 "work days") or atleast 2 days with 50-70 min calls and 25-35 SMS
Turning data and/or wifi when needed makes phone battery least looooonger...
Now testing Andromadus Audacity b1, charged 7.5h ago (4207mV), i will post when empty (or near ~3600-3650)
Also remember that we don't have the proper kernel source for our phone. There are some tweaks that can't really be made yet, and probably a bunch of wasted cpu time where errors and stuff get worked through.
GB battery life was worse than Froyo at the same stage of development. It'll even out better when we have the official kernel source for the DHD, I think.

So most ICS based roms have roughly the same battery life?
I'm current on the audacity beta, getting about 20 hours with no charge with moderate use. Gingerbread i could go about a day and acouple more hours.
I'm a bit bitter that I can only use 3G or higher on Bell with my DZ...that means if I want better battery life I need to ditch mobile data altogether. Boo.

Better battery life
All,
I was just about to install "Elitemod", which claims to be tuned to bits wrt battery life, and I noticed AudicityBeta1 was released.. so i thought Id try it out.. and
And yes I think its much better!.. this morning I used it a bit, made a dozen phonecalls, sync'd email and for the first time the "voicecalls" are less than the screen.
(see attachment)
Im wondering if the recently released qualcomm drivers made a difference..
At this rate it will last ~40hrs... probably less but as long as it lasts the day Im happy
Anyone else want to confirm my findings?
