Mounting specific partitions? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this has been asked a lot of times but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Even my own earlier post is somehow deleted (prolly as it was in the dev section)
So once more, please?
I want to mount the sd card boot partition on my NC running CM7 (sd card - verygreen's method) so that I can copy some zips to flash.
Thanks.

If sd install:
busybox mkdir /sdcard/boot (this is done the first time only)
busybox mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /sdcard/boot
then put the zips you want on /sdcard/boot... they will go to the boot partition
if eMMC install change mmcblk1p1 above to mmcblk0p1

I want to mount specific partitons onto my NC, not PC.
e.g. when running emmc CM7, it doesn't mount all partitons of SD. I was asking a way to mount these "other" partitions.

[Q] Can't read SD 4th partition (verygreen CM7)

I had CM7.1 installed onto the microSD (verygreen's method) and also had MIUI on emmc.
Today I decided to the unusable MIUI and install CM7 to emmc. Installation went fine but post installation of CM7(emmc) I booted into my SD CM7 to do a TB to restore onto emmc but it couldnt read/find the supposed SD(i.e. mmcblk1p4)
Next up I tried NookColor UMS. It mounts emmcblk1p1 as boot and I can add/remove files but the emmcblk1p4 gets mounted as a removable drive that "needs to be formatted".
(P.S. I did try mmcblk1p2/p3 but couldn't see anything in them either. I assumed they must be ext and since I'm on win7 I cant view them)
How do I get the emmcblk1p4 to mount/read?
thanks!
Did you use the same sd card to install CM7 to the emmc as you used for CM7?

Yeah. The same. I put the zip in the boot partition of the card. (mmcblk1p1)

Are you sure that you didn't format your card when you wrote the boot image to install CM7 to the emmc?
How did you go about installing CM7 to emmc? Which emmc install method did you use?

Here's what I did:
1. Reboot into recovery. (Emmc CWM, not verygreen's installer.)
2. Unmount/remove SDcard.
3. Wipe/data factory reset.
4. Insert/ mount SDcard
5. Install zip from SDcard.
6. Choose zip and confirm
I know when we do a wipe data/factory reset then the sd-ext partition is formatted and that would delete any one of my CM7 SD partitions so I removed SD before this step.
Could it be that during flashing something happened to mmcblk1p4?
I had no ideas about the various methds for emmc install. I thought this was the standard procedure. Please tell me how to recover. Also if possible can you tell which would be the best method for doing something like this?

How possibly you can use ONE uSD for both CwMR and CM7?
I don't think it works that way.
Either your provided info is incorrect or it is a completely new to us.

As I stated in my previous post..the CWM is emmc while have 2 copies of CM7 (sdcard- verygreen and the normal emmc). And CWM recognises emmcblk1p1 as sd-card. So I put ROMs there.
And my emmcblk1p4 can't be read.

Defy won't mount Sd Card

Hi can anyone help me my defy won't mount any Sd card I use but they all work on my HTC I can't mount mass storage or mount /sdcard in recovery and when I go too import.contacts from Sd card it.says no sdcard connected any help?

Can't or Won't mount sdcard in recovery
Stumbled on this one when trying to load CM from /sdcard in recovery.
Found the hint in another forum on this board, but the answer was not quite clear to me until I fiddled with it, trying all the wrong things...
Finally...
From the first standard recovery menu, enable or start the adb daeamon.
Then `adb shell` ... (assuming you've already rooted using psneuter or something)
Now see what you see for `ls -ld /dev/block/mmcblk0p1`
For my "stock" defy mb525 this device was not defined when in recovery - but was defined one I booted all the way to normal.
But we need the device defined now, in "custom recovery"..... so simple while still on the recovery screen of the phone, but from adb vis usb cable ...
mknod /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 b 179 1
mknod /dev/block/mmcblk0 b 179 0 # for good measure, to match definitions elsewhere
And then on to custom recovery, backup/restore, install from zip, etc, etc..
(I've been hacking Linux/Unix and such for many years -- but I'm new to the world of Android/phone hacking --
once I'm in adb shell -- things are easy for an old Unix guy )

[HOW-TO] Recover Internal Memory lost after XXUFME3

Hello,
So after I flashed XXUFME3 I noticed that non of my files on my internal memory are showing any more.
When checking the storage, I can see that there was 5 GB worth of files un-accounted for, IE they still exist they just don't show any more.
After further digging up, here is what I have found:
The mount point for internal memory is no longer /sdcard/ it is now /sdcard/0/ and to my knowledge, I couldn't find a way to actually see /sdcard/ since it was not mounted to begin with.
Here is what I did to circumvate this:
1 - I rebooted to CWM recovery
2 - From there, I went to mounts & storage and mounted /data, /sdcard and /external_sd
3 - I opened an adb shell and from there browsing to /sdcard/ showed me all my precious files again.
From here on out, the solution was simple.
You can either:
Move all contents from /sdcard/ to /sdcard/0/ this can be done by running the following:
Code:
mv -r !(0) /sdcard/0/
OR
Copy all of your contents to your external SD by running the following:
Code:
cp -r !(0) /external_sd/
Both the above commands will exclude the directory "0" and all of its contents since you do not need to move them.
Hope this helps anyone who had the same problem.
Or you can go to /storage/emulated/0/0 folder and find all your old files in there.

I looked and they weren't showing there. I had a similar issue when I moved to AOKP and I was able to restore them as you said, however this time they simply weren't there.
The mount point is actually /data/media normally but here it's /data/media/0 so you can just copy everything from /data/media to /data/media/0 with a root explorer (i use es)
/sdcard and /storage/emulated essentially just redirect you to be media folder.

The thread title is wrong. The files are not "lost".
Also, anyone who's used 4.2.2 before knows the deal here.

So are these duplicate files or just in a different place? I did a full wipe and flashed 4.2.2, then put all my stuff back from the backup on my computer. Does this effect me?

Different location. Full explanation in the thread I wrote in my signature

Turns out it is because of multi user support... If you create another user profile, all the files from that user will get saved to /sdcard/1. Only way out is to move all files from /sdcard to /sdcard/0.

mount folder from external sdcard in internal sdcard

hi,
some apps store there data on the internal sdcard without the possibility to change the folder. i'be tried the app foldermount and could mount some foldern from the external sdcard to the internal sdcard, so the apps don't know that there store there data on /storage/sdcard1. but how can i do this without an extra app? i now that i can start scripts after android start. so i've tried this in terminal emulator
Code:
mount -o bind /storage/sdcard1/folder /storage/sdcard0/folder
but it doesn't work: "mount: Operation not permitted". how can i do this?
i use stock 4.4.2 (rooted)

I am using GL2SD app for that purpose. all the games data is in my sd card.
Not too sure what you are up to, but would symlinking work?
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Maybe, but i think the extsd is fat32 and i'm not sure android can use ext formated sdcards. Fat32 doesn't support symbolic links.
I don't understand what 'bad option' mean.
I use Folder Mount for this purpose. It can move anything (per app obb/data)to external. Try it. if you like it... buy it (3 links max in free version)
Does require root though!
At the moment i use it too. but this is an extra app i have to install. Mounting with script should be the better way - but it doesnt work.

Internal storages Swap. HOW ?

Hi,
i have two identical NC devices [ from the outside], but
here are the difference in the inside:
#first:
- internal storage for the apps that can't be unmounted have 0.9GB
- internal storage for the user data that can be unmounter/remounted have 5GB
#second:
- internal storage for the apps that can't be unmounted have 4.9GB
- internal storage for the user data that can be unmounter/remounted have 1GB
and i want to change #second NC internal storage to look/work as onthe #first
i read and tried this:
- changing from this
/devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/mmc_host/mmc1 auto auto defaults voldmanaged=sdcard1:auto,noemulatedsd
/devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/mmc_host/mmc0 auto vfat defaults voldmanaged=sdcard0:8,nonremovable
to this:
/devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/mmc_host/mmc1 auto auto defaults voldmanaged=sdcard0:auto
/devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/mmc_host/mmc0 auto auto defaults voldmanaged=sdcard1:8
Also fstab.encore are identical on both devices.
but does not helped.
Can anyone help with this or point to the right dirrection ?
Thanks
The issue is that BN changed the internal partitioning sizes for the newer Nook Colors. Dean Gibson developed a set of tools to repartition the newer nooks back to the original sizes if desired. See this thread:

You are using too new of a CWM it must be older than v6045. You can find one on my Nook Color Tips thread.

Will try with older CWM, but is it possible to make .zip for newer CWM ?

No, it takes a little effort to change files and make sure they work. Not worth to me the extra effort when it can be flashed with the older CWM.

Each device uses different partition structures so there is not an easy answer for this. And on top of that most newer devices do not use the DOS partition structure like the PC and the Nook Color does. Therefore fdisk will not work on them. They use a newer structure called GPT that is more robust than the DOS structure. And you must use the tool gdisk.
