Greetings,
My cousin cracked his phone, he is back home in Nepal, so its probably an international version.
He gave me the imei number, and said the phone model is model is nexus s gt- i9020t.
I found this on ebay, i think it will work ~$130ish
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320769971247
(NEW Samsung Google Nexus S I9020 lcd display touch digitizer screen assembly USA)
I still rock the TP2 on sprint, so I have no clue about this phone.
Can somone with similar experience please guide me.
I am guessing both LCD and Digitizer needs to be replaced. He is gonna take it to a tech to get it fixed, just that he cannot find the parts there.
will appreciate any help, just need to get the part by the 18th of Dec, so i can send it back with my dad.
p.s. $130 is pretty insane, and Samsung actually said it would be $170 to fix. but this is a bad a$$ phone

Thanks d_phekt, knowing that this is the T-mobile Nesus S helps a lot.
This item is going half way across the world, so I want to be sure I am buying the correct item. Looks like the item i posted above, will be compatible (http://www.ebay.com/itm/320769971247).

I9020T - T-mobile, any GSM network, 3G might not work (AT&T customers will have "edge" only data connection)

I don't know what is going on with my Nexus S, is the third time I change the SLCD digitizer and the touch is not working. By the way mine is i9023 and also the SLCDs I got are for i9023. I'm just courious for i9020 model, does someone got it fixed.
Cheers,
So I heard back from my cousin, he said he had a tech replace it for him.
Everything is working fine, but he was saying his Bluetooth stopped working lol.
I think it might be the ROM he is using ,than an actual hardware issue, due to replacing the LCD.
anyhow, thanks for the help.

So I went doing go-karts with friends yesterday noon, everything went well until we had no control of the karts and started bumping into each other quite a lot. My baby was in left pocket. when i got out of the kart, the phone was bent slightly enough to crack the screen.
even with cracked screen, i could still unlock the phone lol and the notification ball was still blinking.
Had it for almost 2 years already. Power button is still holding up very good compared to others. Volume buttons show no sign of age. Screen is in perfect condition thanks to invisible shield.
Upgrading to Sensation now. wish i could get the prime but i have tmobile
I've had both the AMOLED screen and the digitizer (the touchscreen) cracked on separate occasions. Both are replaceable and they aren't too expensive. I think HTC will do the AMOLED screen for just over $100, and they will do an advanced exchange with you. (Not sure on the cost of the digitizer, but I would expect it to be similar)

Thanks for the info man but it's time i have to give up my baby. The best 530 dollars investment ive made yet. I'm still deciding should i part it out or just leave it how it is
I'd seriously wait for the Nexus prime, it should be coming out for t-mobile/atnt too.

are you for sure its coming to Tmo and At&t cuz every site i have read said Verizon is having the phone exclusively, which is the reason why they passed on the SGS II.
Though, I just ordered the Sensation. I can always sell that and get the prime when it's out anyways lol.

It is highly probable the next "Google experience phone" will wind up on Tmo and Att as well as Verizon. I can even see Sprint getting it. There is much conjecture to be had that Samsung will be unveiling two Ice cream sandwich based devices at CITA; the event that they postponed but will eventually happen later this month.
A GSM version of the phone already was approved by the FCC last week that had both the AT&T and T-Mobile bands with no CDMA antenna, so it'll likely be on all carriers at some point before the end of the year.

My advice. If you have the option 'change the screen.
So I did an insurance clsim on my g2 and they told me it was on back order and didn't know when they would have it. So needing a phone I just went and picked up the g2x. Then the next day the g2 shows up at my house. So now I have a new g2 that I need to sell. But I had to pay 130 for the claim so I need to sell it for atleast that preferrably more. A local phone store offered me 165 for it but I thot I should see if one of my fellow xda members wanted it first. If your interested send me an offer either in the post or pm me. Thanks guys, later

I dunno, I'm pretty sure mine was brand new from a warranty replacement from Tmobile. It came with android 2.2 still on it and if it is a refurb they did such a good job I can't tell. Also, they told me, "We'll send you a new or like new device", so isn't it possible to get a brand new one from leftover stock?

I see, well maybe they have a stock of new ones they never sold or possibly it is a refurb and they put 2.2 on it assuming you'll update it after powering up. Either way I couldn't tell the difference, it's a flawless refurb if that is in fact what it is.
I'm not 100% that all DZ's have the same radio but one from Roger's Canada will work on AT&T 3G, not sure about HSPA+ though and the G2 functions on TMo. Vague answer I know, but it's all I have right now.

Yeah it would most likely get edge only. That's what happens if you put a G2 on AT&T so I would expect similar results if you put one on Rogers
Sent from my Bulletproof G2
the difference between the rogers/bell DZ and the tmo G2 is the 3G band it supports. the tmo version only supports tmo's 3g bands (2 bands, 1 for up and 1 for down) while the rogers/bell support 3 (i think), one of which is compatible with AT&T's 3G band.
that and the G2 does not have Sense while the DZ comes with sense 2.1
i think that's about all the real differences between them.
Sounds like this would be a great 3G device for anyone in Canada on wind or Mobilicity (it is really hard to find a good android with a keyboard in Canada that works with Mobilicity and Wind).....I'm getting 3G data with my T-Mobile G2 on Mobilicity.

no because i didnt do an insurance claim.. i did a warranty echange through tmobile, but paid for it. i actually think i found a way to get a new fone cheaper than paying the $130. see if u call t-mo and tell them something is wrong with ur fone and u want to do a warranty exchange, they send u a new device (or refurb or w.e they send.) u send ur old one back and if they determine that it was something u did to the phone, they only charge u $105 to ur account. now u got a new phone for $30 dollers cheaper than insurance. well it seems my forum has stranded away from its origin. is anyone interested in this phone or jus determining whether its new or refurbed. lol
Id be interested in buying it off you depending on how much more than 130 you want..I'm still using a g1 and would love to upgrade to this phone as I've wanted to for a while

I was one of the many unlucky people to brick their Note in the whole ics kernel fiasco. I tried to send my phone to Samsung Germany for repair but it would have cost $112 to ship it there . However Amazon said they would give me a full refund despite it being out of the 30 day period. I'm too afraid to invest in another international Note though. That is very awesome for Amazon to take it back well after 30 days.
I wish I contacted Amazon before ordering the replacement Note (yeah, my first Note was bricked by the LP6 kernel ).
If you are really sticking with AT&T only devices, I think the I717 would fit you best. It's a direct replacement of what you had (minus the home-button). I had the I717 for two hours, then I decided to sell it for the N7000 instead because of the developments available. The One X is also a good choice, but the AT&T version lost its "quad-core edge" compared to the international version.

The AT&T version's S4 isn't that bad but only 16G rom with no micro-sd slot is a deal breaker for me. I dislike the AT&T's Note as well because of the slow qualcomm CPU. I would rather get another N7000 or wait for GSIII for the moment.

I would wait for the S3 or buy a used Note. That last "new" phones were bought were Captivates. After that 2 SGS IIs and my Note Used. Saving our upgrades for iPhone 5s to sell unless ATT decided to dump our UL MediaNet plans to upgrade. Then we won't upgrade at all. Don't need LTE. WiFi is everywhere.
I'm confused why blame the note for upgrading unoffically to the wrong firmware version for you phone? It's country specific? So at the end of the day you don't like the Note?
I personally can't see a replacement for the note till the next version comes out.
Get another Note is my choice.
Awesome you got a refund!

Right, but the OP explicitly stated that he/she wants to stick with AT&T's devices. The N7000's super-brick wave is strong as of late, and there is no way to get it warrantied through Samsung in the US (I'm in the US, too, and my first Note was bricked by LP6) besides sending it back to where it was originally sold for service.
The advantage to having an AT&T device is that should it be super-ultra-hard-bricked or any other faults, it can be brought back to the DSC (Device Support Center) for an exchange within the 1-year warranty period.
International Note + CM9. Better than anything out there.

Sorry to post my question into your thread but I could not ignore your experience with the GN International bought from Amazon.de
I am just about to go the same route as you did, and because I also had one problem with a product bought from Amazon and the way they've handled it so brilliantly that I was thrilled with their after sale service.
I was asked to send it back and because I was given a bar code which I glued on the box I didn't have to pay the shipping cost (just needed a printer and some glue). And because I've asked for the money back instead of Amazon credit I had the money in 4 days maximum instead of instantly, which in my book is amazing.
Now I am considering of buying a G.NOTE from German Amazon or Spanish Amazon. The price difference is 2 Euros so it's not a deal breaker so my question is:
Do German G. NOTEs have a problem and would it be preferable for me to get one from Spain or is it all the same thing and I should not worry much about it?
Thank you all for your answeres.
Don't you worry about German or Spanish versions. They are the same as long as you buy unbranded exemplars. The sole difference is the rom version. Just make sure you buy a N7000.

Wait ....I thought the N7000 was the AT&T US version??? I had understood that the major difference between the US and Intl versions was the physical button.
I just ordered the AT&T version. I also cannot consider a "Flagship" device one without SDCard capability.....might as well get an iPhone. I don't get why the decision with that, being that the EVO 4G LTE has the SDCard ...it's the same phone rebranded....That just ticks me off. Same reason I could not buy the GNex.
I'm just hoping that the SGIII comes out with in my 30 day return period in case I don't like the Gnote.

No.
The SGH-I777 was the last Samsung device on AT&T to only have minor differences from the international version. (touchkeys, NFC, slight audio differences for calls)
The AT&T Note has the following in common with the international version:
Physical dimensions, Wacom digitizer, screen type, name - that's it. EVERYTHING else about the device is completely different.
evening all,
so a little bit about my query/truth
so i am a phone shop manager and i own the s3 (ovb)
now i was speaking to a member of staff from cpw and he informed that Samsung are now offering to take in your s3 and replace the board with the new 4g(lte chip and other part maybe the ram.... now im not sure if there is any truth on this or a cost involved but i also spoke to our Samsung rep yesterday and he also said yes some staff have sent there s3 as a mystery recall to be upgraded......
any views or opinions on this or any other news you have heard the same,
cheers.

They don't have to but if they can if they want, now let's put it this way, if they are going to do this, will you buy another Samsung flagship phone again? I know I would.
Sent them an email, but I'm not sure if their customer support will work weekends to get a reply before Monday.
Very hard to actually determine the truth behind the OP or the samsung rep that's saying that - but if that's the case....well samsung will get a lot of good +1's from people.
That said - I bet there will be also people who will flame samsung for recalling it...
I think this is bull**** and will never happen. and if it indeed did, it was for a small customer lot.
and as for the firmware upgrade to enable LTE. bull**** again will never happen the hardware is physically impossible to do as its not there to begin with.

Why? A quick mainboard replacement should sort it, the chassis is the same as far as I know so seems feasible, but can't see it being totally free tbh
They way i see it is samsung and apple are having a bit of a battle and one way the iphone beats the i9300 is with 4g. So if samsung gave a free upgrade to the mass amount of i9300 owners not only would it be a good image for the company but would be a 1 up against apple.
I think it would be a very wise decision for samsung to do this

I would do it
we all know that the screen and digitizer and gorrila glass 2 are all combined into one, and costs about $200+ to get a replacment for it.
i cant see why samsung could not sell the motherboard only and people could fit it them selfs
thats if this doesnt amount to anything replacing the board yourself could be feesable and its very easy to replace the mainboard only, unless the camera or something else requires a different version that is to the board your using or not compatible ect.
i would actually consider buying the main board only if it was compatible.
EDIT: actually thinking about it i cant see this happening either as wouldnt replacing the motherboard screw up your IMEI number ? and make it different ect ?

I would upgrade at that price I reckon
these multi dollar companies are all the same.
Their will never do it for free unless it was a ( possible) legal requirement. It's possible there could be another recently recognised glitch on the mainboard and under the disguise of an lte upgrade their replacing them.
There was already one previous recall of some batches according to vodafone before they were distributed to customers.

Have a blessed day!

There's some on ebay, but you need to make sure you get the right one(model D801? D802? VS980?):
http://www.ebay.com/sch/Replacement-Parts-Tools-/43304/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=LG+G2+screen+-g2x
None of them list VS980, so if it's a Verizon phone you may be out of luck on ebay.
ETA: Seeing that you posted from a Verizon Note II, I'm thinking you're out of luck unless you go through Verizon. If you paid full price for the phone with a good credit card, you can get a full refund and buy another one. Amex and Discover will take care of you. If you bought it subsidized, they'll only give you back $199 or whatever you paid for it, and I think they'll want the phone sent to them as well. Good luck.
Thank you for the information. I bought it through Verizon. I guess I'll have to wait until a replacement comes out for their model. Thanks again for the information, have a blessed day

It very well could be the same screen for all models(except for the Verizon logo), and the resellers just don't know it. Or, the ribbon cables could be completely different. You'll probably have to wait awhile until VS980 screens are available, or someone does tear downs of all variants to find out which, if any parts, are interchangeable.
similar problem here with a Verizon LG G2. These new phones are too sexy for cases, but I've learned my lesson. Nice idea with a credit card refund, but I bought it subsidized unfortunately.
Looks like my LCD is ok underneath the screen, but I still don't see any stand alone panels/digitizers for a VS980 -- only for a D801 (AT&T). Several on ebay, as you have noted.
OP: if your LCD is broken as well there's a D801+VS980 LCD/digitizer combo available at gounlock .com. Is the fact that this vendor lists both the D801 and VS980 together evidence that a D801 digitizer would be compatible with my current VS980 LCD?
Thanks!
