Hi there,
I am considering buying the Galaxy Note, I have had a HTC HD2 for 2 years and think this maybe the new phone for me,
I'm not worried by size as it seems in scale for me.
I have used HTC for along time and have upgraded roms etc and kept upto date!
can i have some advice? How good is this Phone and anybody else moved from a htc hd2?
thank you
I have two HTC HD2 and I have to say that it is a lovely phone. In fact, it was.
However, as usually, bigger is better and I have to say I am extremely happy with my new Note. I love huge screen, deep blacks and the stylus for taking notes.
Highly recommended!
Try searching, theres a thread for users from HD2s.
I will do, I'm really strugeling for time as having to move house to a different country and dont have time to think. going for sim free as moving from uk to geneva!
slap on wrist noted and accepted!
I had hd2 evo and evo3d. This is the best I've owned as I love the big screen. It's awesome. Can't go wrong

Well the Note has the 1.4ghz Exynos SoC which makes it THE fastest smartphone on the market and is up there with the super tablets.
If you like speed, beautiful displays that equal the i****'s display, and excellent battey life, you can go wrong with the Note.

Yea this the phone for the HD2 users, already posted in same kind of many threads it gives me pleasure to discover that most of the HD2 users have the same line of thinking in common.
I have used the HD2 for exactly two years now and its still in great shape. But I am starting to love my GNote more and more each day.
as someone on the HD2, I can tell you that the Note is my next device... thats the bottom line...
I have read about it, and got to see it locally (craigslist seller, wanted WAYY to much, but I got him to drive out so i could "decide" on it ), and its just all sorts of dead sexy.. and the 16:10 aspect ratio instead of the ****ty narrow as hell 16:9 bull****...
well... when i can afford it... ill be getting one... just not on AT&T... over my dead rotting corpse...
I've got an HD2 as well. But the Note was just too big. The size of the HD2 was where I drew the line. The Note seemed to be more of a Phablet to me, but hey...opinions are like a$$h0le$ and elbows, everybody's got one some people have 2!
I upgraded to the SGS2 last week, and love it.
I have been a HD2 user for 2 years and just now bought Note. It is awesome. Though i miss the very nice WM6.5 Sense interface

I have been using the HD2, moded it many times and love that phone. It is a quality built phone, powerful and now it has become my backup phone as I received my GNotelast Friday and am still getting things tweaked just right.
I am fairly new to Android only having played with it using SD based ROMs on my HD2.
I am now much more familiar with Android as I have spent a few hours exploring every corner of the UI and now have tweaked the GNote to increase font sizes and adjust App settings to make it easier for me to see and use, what others take for granted.
As a low vision individual, the GNote seemed like a no brainer and with the use of the following Apps I seem to have been able to get font sizes increased throughout most of the UI.
1) At first I had used "Font Size" (for rooted users) from the market which does a very good job of increasing ALL text size throughout the UI (Icon text on the home screens, in program text, settings menus, etc.) Setting "Font Size" to large vs. Extra Large seems to be the sweet spot.
2) I could not stop there as I felt there were areas where Font Size'ing to the "large" setting worked against me in some ways so I set that back to "default" size and started using adjustments within each App, GNote Messaging App,Dialer One, K-9 for my exchange mail and Opera Mobile (Which does text reflow when you pinch to zoom just like it did on the HD2) and I found that Go Launcher EX has the ability to increase icon text sizes for the home screens which seemed to work better than what Font Size did for me.
And although there are many ways available to root your GNote I found the one in the link below was the one for me as it was easy to do and apparently doesn't set a flag that would show that the phone had been rooted. By that I mean that I can unroot it with this method, should the GNote need to go back for warranty work and Samsung would be none the wiser (or so this rooting method claim).
Here is the link for the root I used:
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/11/at-your-own-risk-how-to-root-your.html
At the end of this link he also explains Titanium backup and how to use it better than any of the other articles I have read.
I love the GNote and am still adjusting to it. VLingo and voice interactions take time to get used to and are not as smooth as I would hope.
As a low vision person, the GNote is a solution that is unsurpassed by anyother.
Now if I could only find a way to stop event notifications to NOT go through the GNote speaker when I have my BT Headset on, I would be in pig heaven!
Made the leap last night
I am not coming from the HD2, but from the Evo 4G. While waiting (forever) for the galaxy nexus, I stumbled across this phone, and after a lot of research, made the leap to the Note. I haven't heard anything negative about it, other than some screen issues, so I hope I get lucky and get a good one from Newegg. I like big phones, and know I will love the size of it.
It will be a lot of firsts for me: 1st import, 1st Samsung (always had HTCs) and 1st time with AT&T. I plan to follow the advice of others here at XDA when I call AT&T and when I configure my APN to work on HSPA+
I say "go for it".
So at last mr.Claude you have joined the HD2/GNote veteran gang, congratulations and thanks for the very usefull informations.
I myself have not rooted it yet since I didnt need to,but will use the link you have posted in case I ever decided to root.
too big for me. I've got a n HP Touchpad on the way for the bigger needs.
Firesale was good to me.

Ditto.
I couldn't see anything I liked more for the last 2 years, though on reflection the SII is good.
Plus, the stylus is back!
Always annoyed me that the stylus was dropped on the HD2.
I had the HD as well.
@rahulganatra
Check out fancy widgets for a very good Sense clock/weather app.
You will need a launcher like Launcher Pro as well to resize for the note.
I have come from a HD2. Even though the display on the note has problems/software bugs, the picture is just other worldly. I cant go back to the HD2's display after seeing this.

So I am looking to purchase a Nexus One sometime within the next month or so. I'm an AT&T user and currently am using the FUZE with a custom ROM and running the Eclair XDAndroid build, which obviously doesn't compare to a real android device in any way, shape, or form. I'm completely aware of the features and abilities of both the iPhone and the N1, so this isn't really a feature comparison thread. On paper I know what the N1 is capable of, and everyone I know (literally) has a freaking iPhone so I know what that is capable of in the real world with real use.
Getting to the point, since you folks have been using the N1, may I ask what you like about your N1 over the iPhone? I'm following threads and seeing people with dust complaints, tinted screens, horrifying battery life, the touch sensitive buttons at the bottom not responding... and I'm just struggling on convincing myself to spend over $530 USD on a phone that could cause me problems over spending $300 USD on an iPhone that I know performs very well and already has a ton of memory built in, but lacks everything else that I want in the N1. Are most of these issues from earlier models of the phone? Do they occur more in say the T-Mobile version over the AT&T version (or vice-versa)?
I know this probably seems like a dumb thread, but I've searched and I've heard all the comparisons for features, but I just want to hear your comparisons through actual real world experience with the device (even if you haven't use the iPhone. Oh, and I did see the CNET video of the iPhone vs N1 brawl and that definitely is helping me lean more and more towards the N1.
Any advice would be great. Just please don't turn this into a flame war, both phones are fantastic in their own ways.

they're both amazing.
the nexus one is great. features and all. but after like three months, you kinda want your iphone back.. or i do at least.
depending on the 4th Generation iPhone, i may upgrade.
for the time being though, i LOVE my nexus one..
buy it if you are having any doubts. you wont be sorry.
all those issues only apply to a select few or to people that have major ocd..i did like my iphone but i didnt love it..i love my nexus one its a really great phone..i love that i can use it to tether too my laptop, use it as BRIGHT flash light, customize it too my liking, and not having to deal with iphone.
The one thing i did miss when i went back to android from my iphone was the games..iphone games are really really nice but that feeling has gone away since now alot of the 3d games on the iphone are being made for android.
the iphone is a great phone but the UI is sooooooooooo boring..i hated that 4x4 icon page on it.i love having widgets
so to sum it all up get a nexus one......and a ipad ahah
That's kind of my worry. I don't have that kind of money to throw around every couple of months, I don't want to invest all that money and in a couple of months just be jealous of all my friends with iPhones. But it is nice to hear you love your N1, the only apple fanboy thing I'm into is their operating system, anything outside of that I'm not really a huge fan of Apple (I stuck with WinMo just because I could customize it without hassle, unlike the iPhone which is a risk to brick every time you jailbreak it and there's a firmware update)

ya i love my macbook its the best thing that ever happened to me ahah..and honestly the chance of bricking and iphone while jailbreaking is slim to none but its a pain when apple is constantly sending you updates to unjailbreak it..trust me you will not be jealous of their iphones

Awesome note with the games though, I don't play games on my phone much (sadly I'm horribly addicted to solitaire...haha) so I never really got into the games aspect, I only have one or two on my iPod Touch, most of the time I use the basic Apps which are also available on Android (twitter, facebook, shazaam, things like that). So that's a good thing to keep in mind.
I think one of my biggest worries is battery life. I don't work a job where I can charge my phone at all throughout the day, and there are times I leave at 8am and don't get home until 7pm or later, and I don't want to have to worry that my phone won't make it. My WinMo phone always ends at around 60% with standard/moderate use so I never have to worry about running home to get a charge if I get hung up after work.
idk man, by far the best phone i have ever owned so far. (may be contradicting to what i just said but i literally do not care)
features list is just BOOM!
battery is amazing for me. no dead pixels. saturated screen. bright flashlight (nexus one torch).. idk so many to list.
if you wanna buy RIGHT NOW. go for the nexus one,
but
if you can wait til July...... wait. becuase you may regret it if you dont have the money to buy the newest badass thing, like maybe the 4Gen iPhone, and new product from HTC, or anyone... really its all so hard to tell but if you can wait, i think that'd be in your best interest.
and the only thing i miss about the iphone thats slowly sucking me back in (happens about twice a year, ive owned all the iphones and sold them too haha) is the slickkkkkk UI. the LARGE community and the apps that actually work clean, and flawlessly. the iphones' transition between homescreens is definitely smooth as butter. nexus one? smooth as sand paper.. the ability to take screen shots on the iphone with ease... idk.. haha
nexus one last me a whole a day with heavy usage (texting, internet, games, music, calling) i disagree with the slick UI..iphone has a HORRIBLE UI in my opinion its too plain and transition is just as smooth..the community for android is also huge and screenshots is easy too..just shake the phone (shootme app on market)

i totally agree.. just one night i forgot to plug it in. died later that day though (didnt necessarily let it "die" i just shut it off at like 2%)
My phone is simply perfect. No issues whatsoever, apparently I am one of the lucky Nexus owners. The only thing though, I do like about the iPhone more - is the UI polish. Apple is simply great at designing things. I'm ok though, as long as I have a Desire ROM. HTC Sense is quite nice.
Youll be happy with the nexus. It is great now and stands to realize much of its latent potential if Google wants it to. If you've had an iPhone you will definitely be disappointed in the touch screen. It's possible though that Android might be able to iron out some of the jittery, jumpiness of the nexus touch screen. But its a decent screen, those who have never used an iPhone think the nexus has the best touch screen there is so its definitely not a deal breaker.
Also, the nexus has higher resolution but I don't think there's and denying that the iPhone just looks crisper, especially the browser. But the nexus gpu definitely loads pages faster. I think I'm just rambling now...

It all comes down to your personal preference. You can read all types of reviews and you'll see that Nexus One wins over iPhone 3GS. The features of the phone are outstanding. Just ask yourself what you want in your phone. If you want lots of applications, music, go for iPhone but if you want free applications, customizations, widgets, great camera, blazing fast web experience, go for Nexus One. Its just a matter of time before android applications touch the mark set by iPhone. Once you root your Nexus One, its going to be a whole world of possibilities....
For the issues you read about Nexus One, I want to tell you that the tinted screen is only present in the newer devices which would be very soon fixed by an update. The capacitive buttons work perfectly when pressed on the upper half of the button. The dust problem is present in a very small no. or hardwares and if you live in US, then you can call for a replacement if it happens with you.
Android would very soon be taken up by most of the mobile makers as its open sourced and free. I read somewhere that the phone companies who have taken up android OS have to pay very little in comparison to Windows Mobile.
So go for Nexus One, you wont be sorry....
Here's what I wrote in another forum regarding this question:
Having thought about it I realised that the choice to go for an N1 is easy if it fits your needs. Since it has been released all the focus has been on how it compares to the iphone. Understandable as apple set a high bar with many features such as the apps, the graphical physics and ease of use. The n1 more or less matches them and comparing many of these features doesn't get you far. They both are fantastic bits of hardware, great screens, amazing computing power, touchscreens etc. In some ways the N1 performs a bit better in others the iphone but the differences between them are small.
However I think the N1 has gone to a new level with features the iphone simply hasn't got. I don't have to open an app to access the information I want. My calender, agenda, weather, news, daily Bible reading, personal photo's, music player (and playlists) one touch dialling to favourite contacts (and many other thing I don't use) all run on my home pages. And here's where it moves mobile information on; all these widgets update automatically and wirelessly. I don't have to plug my phone into my computer to update my agenda, it happen without hassle right onto my homescreen. Furthermore these services are free - and yes I did pay for mobile me and no its not worth it.
Bottom line is that both the iphone and the N1 are great bits of kit, you won't notice many gains in function between either hardware as far as I can tell but the software has moved on from simply apps. Unfortunately the press just focus on the things that you can compare but the how can you compare widget on a N1 to nothing on the iphone? The N1 is in a different class to the iphone because it does things the iphone can't dream of doing, try to keep up apple!
Thank You everybody. Your advice has been helpful. I actually feel that the Android UI is nicer than the iPhone, to me the iPhone seems plain. Though I will admit that the iPhone is probably a little more user friendly, I don't mind the extra clicks on Android, and it's not like it's difficult to figure out by any stretch of the means. And it's good to know that the issues people are having are only occurring in a small percentage of devices, I was really worried that I would throw down that kind of money and have a jacked phone that only lasted me half a day and had a dusty mis-tinted screen...haha. Hopefully I'll be able to get my N1 ordered by the end of this month.
The next step would be rooting. I don't think I'll root it until after the warranty is up, but I don't know, I said the same thing about ROMing my FUZE and that didn't happen. Though on an unrelated question, how come so many N1 ROM threads don't have screenshots of the ROM. The ShootMe app works great, I use it on my FUZE with Eclair. It just seems like a big risk to install a ROM without knowing what you're supposed to be getting.
actually its less clicks for android lol you know with the widgets and all..with the iphone it takes four clicks to modify your brightness for android it takes one, it takes 3 clicks to turn on wifi and bluetooth on iphone and on android it takes one, it takes 4 clicks for gps on iphone and android 1, it takes 3 clicks to post something on facebook and 1 on android (same for myspace), it takes takes 2 clicks to search on iphone and none on android..you see my point lol

Warranty is 1 year, you will get hot feet by then. There should be desire screenshots around. CyanogenMod's UI is identical to stock, extra features being the selling point.

Are you running on the HTC Li-Ion battery or some new U-235 battery?
The Nexus One is great. I don't have complaints so far other than the tiny loudspeaker. Heard that the Desire ROM gives it a louder volume. Anyway, like someone has pointed out, if you can wait until June, I would wait. I think Apple sees the Android OS as a thread so they must be building something big for the iphone 4Gen. The iphone 4Gen will probably be better the Nexus One... BUT I am confident that the Nexus Two or whatever Google wants to release in the future will take over eventually
Not saying the Nexus One will lose to the 4Gen for sure. Remember FroYo and Flash 10 are coming to the Nexus One.
I'm interested in your impressions as ex-Nexus S users when you made the switch to the Atrix. I'm struggling between both phones myself.
The way I see it, Nexus S with the new kernels and ROMs is faster and smoother than the Atrix in real-life use. Also, the SAMOLED display seems better than the qHD display. Finally, with the Nexus S I'll be the first to get Ice Cream when it hits in two months, while the Atrix will get it when Motorola decides to finish it, in maybe 10 months... so I'll be missing out on Gtalk video chat and GPU acceleration, not to mention the many games that need to be updated to run on the Atrix (e.g reckless driving, gameloft 3D suite...etc)
However, with the Atrix, I can play the new Tegra Zone games, have a fingerprint unlock option, and 720p (upgradeable to 1080p) video shooting (the Nexus S only shoots 480p).
So, what's your impression?
Keep your Nexus S then. Atrix is still no ready after using.
The colors of the LCD aren't correct. Yellow looks greenish lime.
Camera is pretty pink when in door. High resolution doesn't mean quality video nor photos. IPhone 4 is the best in overall performance. Built in HDR simple fast shooting without going menu after menu. You want menu and configuration download apps from app store. Android is still always beta to me. Google are letting you guys to pay as beta testers.
I own captivate atrix Samsung focus and iPhone. Android hacks are mostly trying to catch-up on good experience on par of what iOs has designed well
If you want freedom jailbreak. But I think Android is mostly a toy rather than productive device for some serious work. CITRIX works perfectly on Atrix and iOS with HDMI out now. Now that's some serious work.
Finally backup and restore. That's totally a joke on Android devices. Without rooting you can't backup and restore the apps and you can't easily syn with the computers. Only Geeks and developers are able to do the backup restore via titanium backup while iOS is a click and work and you can go back to concentrate on your research or work. Screw android in that area.
ANDROID is still toy and iOS is the mainstream quality assurance.

I've had both. The thing that made me put the nexus s for sale is that I couldn't use 3g on at&t. It was only edge. If a 3g versjon for att came out I may have to second guess myself. Another thing that really bothers me about the atrix after using it for only 24 hrs (I got it yesterday) is the font icons and everything seem abnormally small. Maybe its just me but I've used every android phone on att and tmobile and the nexus s and atrix both have 4" screens but look at the tiny atrix font. It bothers me and I can't find a hack or anything to change it. That being said I used the webtop hack last night and it was awsome being able to watch hulu and browse the web on my 55" led with no problems. Also the fingerprint reader ii exremely convenient and battery life is great also. I went from nexus s to inspire 4g and now atrix... and honestaly they all have their great points and I can't decide between the three. Its all about what you'll use it for I guess. if the atrix had sense ui it would be perfect.

Square, I wish you would stop calling it a beta. If you're going to bash Android, especially the Atrix in, why are you on these forums?
Most of us have had or own an iOS device, or have used one extensively. We don't need you here preaching to us about how amazing it is because you can use iTunes to back it up. Whoopdy damn dooie. Also, the OP didn't ask about how good iOS is compared to Android. He wants to how we feel about the Atrix
To the OP:
I haven't owned a Nexus S, but my brother-in-law does, and I've had a chance to use it thoroughly. I love my Atrix compared to it. Just keep in mind that this one of Moto's newest devices. This isn't a Google Experience phone. Moto has promised that they would deliver a response to our bootloader situation, but we'll see. If updates really mean that much to you, than this might not be the phone for you. Again, keep in mind this phone was only released less than a month ago.
As for the display, it looks and feels great to me. I don't notice any off-greens like some people say. Might be because I'm not looking for imperfections as closely as they are. I came from a 3GS, so any newer display will look better than that xD
One of the major selling points were the docks. I bought the car dock and HD dock when I purchased the phone. I'm going to go pick up a laptop dock later on when I go to buy the Inspire. Now that'll get you some looks from your co-workers or classmates
Once again, if you desire custom ROMs, then I'd buy elsewhere for now. I'm going to purchase an Inspire and the laptop dock tomorrow when I go to the AT&T store as my backup phone, which I'm free to modify however I want.
And like an above poster stated, no 3G on AT&T with the S.

Its all about what you'll use it for I guess. if the atrix had sense ui it would be perfect.

the Atrix has the highest resolution screen of any Android phone to date and in the near future. Thats why fonts are smaller. There are some screen res programs you can use to increase font sizes I believe...

You're probably not a very smart guy, are you?
Rooting different Android phones really ins't that hard. If you think you need to be a geek or dev to root and install Titanium Backup, you may actually be quite stupid.
Anyways, the truth is, you can be a five years old and work an Iphone easily. For Android, IMO, it's easy too, but you do have to know a little more of what you are doing and be decently smart in order to be able to do neat stuff on it, and really make it the way you want it. If you made it through middle school, you should be able to find out in less then an hour how to root your phone, epically with guides that explain with step by step instructions how...
So, my guess with you is either one, you don't own an Android phone, or two, you're in middle school.
And what the hell is wrong with your grammar? It looks to me you're Chinese and translated your trolling to English.

I've been using my trusty Nexus One for 2 years now, and I rooted and plagued it with custom roms since day 1 and stands strong till this day....however I want a new phone.
The Note appeals to me very much. I like the Note a lot, but the size....just seems too impractical?
Is it practical for field work? Like sales reps?
I don;t want the SG2 as everyone I know has it....i like to be different! XD
Suggestions?
*i know opinions might be biased since i'm posting is this thread, but guys, try to be neutral, plz
I had a Nexus One for 2 years and thought about getting a new phone.
galaxy nexus was 4 weeks away and it didn't have a sdcard slot (I use about 7gb for spotify, 5gb for offline maps, Podcats, Gamefiles, etc.).
In the meantime the Note came out and I gave it a try.
It's great, love it.
The size is fine for me.
I would have a Nexus if the Nexus was first. But don't know how I would have get around the 16gb.
i went from a G2 which is around the same size as the Nexus One, and i've owned a Nexus one as well.
anyway, you won't have any trouble with the phone for 'field' use. with the exception of everyone stopping and asking you where you got that gigantic phone. maybe consider getting a case for the phone as it feels too thin for as large as it is when your trying to get it out of your pocket.
The Galaxy Nexus should be your choice, you might find it hard to live with a non google reference device.

he's talking about the infrequent software updates. so far development on this phone has been somewhat lacking compared to the Galaxy Nexus and the SGSII. or maybe they're just waiting for better ICS sources. either way it's troubling at the moment.
Well it's still a niche phone. Not many people will use something this large. I however LOVE it. I did have an issue with my first one as the screen would pulsate a green hue. I didn't want to be a whiner but eventually decided to send it back. GLAD I DID! The new one I got has a much better screen with whites and no issues. It's good.
However I recommend it for people with larger hands and I highly recommend getting one of those TPU cases with the grips on the side. It makes it MUCH easier to handle.
Just moved from the outdated 4.3" HTC HD2. It was a window phone and the biggest at that time. A good phone with lots of possibilities and can port Android and also Window 7. A great feature of that phone is the ability to use dedicated GPS such as Garmin, Papago etc - a feature I missed in the Android.
I am new to Android and just got my note over a week ago. I love the enlarged screen and seem to function as small tablet. I am not familiar with using Google map as a GPS and realized that it is not so detailed in my country. So I am still using my HTC HD2 for navigating here.
All said, I still love this Note and size is not a problem with me. Now I can defer getting the Tablet and need not carry too many devices.
I use a belt pouch to carry it around and have to problem with it.
came from a nexus one as well. The N1 screen size made browsing and gaming pointless and chore-ish for me. I really wanted to get an ipad2 but didn't really like its low res screen, and was afraid I would get a new phone as well to replace the aging N1. Then the note came out, made perfect sense to me.
Everyone asks about the phone, most love the size but are afraid it's too big to pocket, and then I show them it fits even in my slim-fit levis.
Great!
I just got myself a Note and it's fantastic!!!

Updates and developments are better and faster on a google reference device. I could possible by the most trouble free device ever as far as andriod is concerned.
I (as I believe most of you too) am a generally happy Note user since Dec. 2011. Really the best phone that I have owned in a while. Just wondering how many others have the same tingly thought about selling GN and picking up a HTC One X (considering that there are not major bugs)?
For:
1. Guaranteed ICS NOW(who knows when Samsung will actually deliver, they already proved that official statements /*cough*will be out Q1=FAIL*cough*/ don't really mean much to them, just profit).
2. I have never met anyone crazy about touchwiz. Quite the opposite with Sense.
3. 4 Core (yes, we don't know real word performance yet, but cant be that bad).
4. Apart from camera performance, HTC has more or less been on par, quality wise with Samsung. Maybe they finally go it right this time.
5. Free 25GB dropbox (or was that 50Gb Box?).
6. Looks sexy (at least on the pictures)
7. SGS3 hasn't even been announced not to talk of GN2.
Against:
1. I just cant get enough of the HUGE screen. No one would call One X small screen, but after Note everything seems small.
2. S Pen. To be honest I never ever use it. But its there and am sure some people do.
3. Its a solid phone. No ICS but what we have now works well.
4. No one really knows if the One X will be all that its said to be. No real reviews yet.
5. No SD card.
maybe: 6. Non removable battery. (I personally never remove it, but might be a con for some).
I know it will be easier to make a final decision when One X is actually out and can be bought. However, its just a couple of week away and I believe if its going to be great, then the used sales price of GN will drop (that is if many GN start to flood the pre-owned market).
Anyway, every new day I notice I am consider the option more and more. What about you?
You also forgot a couple more cons with the HTC One X...no SD Card slot and non-removable battery.

Thanks. I have added them. Why they didn't even come to mind is that I have a 16Gb sd in my GN and its more that enough for me. So the stock 32 would be enough too. Yet, I see how that can be limiting for some folks.
With regards to the battery I never personally remove it. I didn't know that a lot of folks did (apart from reseting, which I am sure the One X will have some pin hole for, to cut power).
In your Fors:
If I was in THAT big of a hurry I'd just put one of the ICS roms on it.
I messed around with one a bit ago, and it was already pretty usable as a daily driver.
The only 'For' which vaguely interests me is having quad core. Yet the phone I have is already plenty fast for the most part. A couple of games have a bit of lag, and I suppose quad core would be nice for that.
But am I going to trade my 5.3" screen and the s-pen for that? Not a chance.

Biggest con for me is it is still HTC. Ive used htc devices since the tmobile/cingular wing(or whatever the first one was) htc touch pro, tp2, tilt, tilt2 etc. But they always find a way to disappoint me.
Besides the greatest phone ever made HTC HD2(personal opinion), ive had nothing but issues with htc. I dont expect nothing different from the one x. Rather its tiny audio quality, dust, etc.
You can already get 50GB free from box if you install their app and I'd miss my OLED too much, so I won't. I also prefer the Samsung design.

What attracts most of HTC is the camera, but it must beat Galaxy note with a lot for me to change.

With my Desire HD I did not feel the need to flash AOSP or even a launcher, quite the opposite with TouchWiz..
And Paul O'Brien said that the screen on the One X makes the screen on his Galaxy Nexus looks dull and dated, and he is a reputable source of course..
So am also on the fense but will wait to see the reviews first and then judge, but I think the X is already a very appealing phone

Hmm not sure with that one. Sense hasn't changed much over the years either, which to me, is a little lazy from HTC.
I couldn't go back to a small screen and i use the s pen too much.
The question remaining is: Will they release updates to incremental android versions without delay (HTC is part of google alliance if i remember correctly)?
When LG first launched the first dual core with tegra 2 CPU and android 2.2, it took them almost a year to get to 2.3.3 and they suffered many bugs (random reboots, etc). I am extremely worried about the bugs this device will have. What if under certain circumstances a rogue stock app is using 100% of all CPUs and battery goes down in minutes?
You might say HTC is not LG, but being an early adopter to new technologies has been proven to be a not so good user experience.
As of now, even Nexus phones have differences in firmware versions. Some Galaxy Nexus devices still run 4.0.1 while others are on 4.0.2 .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558960
Version 4.0.3 isn't even officially out for them, yet new devices launch with it, or update to it. The message that this gives me as a consumer, is that if Google isn't confident enough to release 4.0.3 OTA for the device ICS was designed to work with, its not ready to be used in our phones.
As a user, i don't get a clear picture as to why is all this mess happening.
It can't be that hard to mention publicly: " Android version 4.x.x will be available on your mobile phones in xx/xx/2012. We are currently working on X, Y, Z at the moment". If there are worries that they miss the deadline, its cool, they could just mention that " X, Y are giving us a hard time, we expect to have them worked out by xx/xx/2012 ". Users will respect that.
If they expect us to keep buying these uber-phones, with those prices and still treat us like we buy candy, that is hardly professional. Not to mention the frustration and the time lost while the phone is being serviced.
HTC SENSE could alone be a reason for moving towards ONE X.
Being a owner of HTC's from Touch Diamond days,I can vouch the software implementation is much better than samsung out of the box.
ICS and GB apart,I mean a $700 device plays out videos with black blobs is simply not acceptable.Though video is not a concern for me as I rarely watch them on the device but still you can't ignore it,with also many niggles left out.The whole problem lies with the optimization of things by samsung. They think we are the beta testers rather than testing themselves.
Apart from the screen dimension,1X would be a better choice for me.
I really liked HTC sense on my old Desire, so I like the look of the HTC One, however I love the size of my Note so I don't think I could move.
Now if HTC were to do a 5.3 phone....

No question there...
I wouldve have waited and gotten the htc one x after all its a quad core monster. But no, simply coz the screen is too small for me. welcome note, after all what good is quad core for games if there isnt a decent graphics card.

I am giving One X some serious consideration. But I would like to see some reviews first. And play with the phone in real life. And I really like the size of the Note screen. But it could be the one phone that kills them all in 2012. Like GSII in 2011. And dont forget about Galaxy S III. Or what Samsung is going to name it. Lets wait and see. The One X does look really nice though
At home we have two HTC HD2,and a Desire z,both are very good devices.
Software implementation on HTC are very good, specialy RAM managment,
I like the Note's screen size, but will test the One X if its snappier then will most probably get it,actually the only con that I find in the Note itself is its beeing a slow device, and I hate that.
I really like this phone, I like Sense, but as said above from another users there are a lot of persistent bug in Htc phones: poor audio (Htc Sensation I can barely hear the other person speaking), dust under the screen!!
The ONLY thing which will make me switch from the Note is the Galaxy S 3 which is GUARANTEED to be better in almost every way to the One X

*You can already get a Dropbox hack to give you the 25GB space which is easy to do, just go to "android" section on ipmart. I have already done it on my note and I have 25GB for 2 years
*4 core! really, I'm running a 4 core PC and the amount of applications that utilise a 4 core CPU on my PC are practically negligible. You will find it with android applications, how many support a 4 core CPU? or even dual core...and why? its not like your going to be doing some 3D CAD rendering on a 4+"screen android device.
Essentially your observations comes down to how shiny is that device compared to mine?
The note is a fantastic bit of kit and i think it will be a while before somebody comes out with something to better it.
Take care
Please don't close this thread soon, i am in real headache and really need some thoughts from only those users who have used latest Android Devices and iPhone 5/5s.
Hi there, i am facing some serious issues about buying either Note 3 or iPhone 5s. To further explain my last few phones in order are HTC One X, iPhone 5 again iPhone 5 and lastly i sold LG G2. LG G2 i believe is best in android just because of lack of brand value i sold it as i got good offer as compared to market.
I thought to buy smaller iPhone 5s, just to be able to do everything, fine living with no songs sharing, limitations, but fast, fluid and small in hand and pocket. Now Note 3 which i hated, specially S pen, but better brand value, more things to be able to do, but same messy android and touch wiz?
Spoiled for choice, only one have to make.
May be i should somehow hold and play with both, both phones have some to give and something to take.
EDIT:
Problem simplified. Trimmed my situation into two choice:
Option 1 (Big, tough to carry, more real estate + Android, more possibilities, sharing and mess)
VS
Option 2 (Small, easy to carry around + less feature simple life fluid and pretty)
You say you hated Note 3, so what's the problem. Go with iPhone 5S. That's a fantastic phone, and I'm not being sarcastic. I'm not an Android fanboy, I call it as it is.
Be careful however, iPhone 6 will come out in near future and it'll likely be very different from this generation of iPhones, likely with a bigger screen, so your iPhone 5S will start looking old.
Hate S-pen !
if you hate Note 3 specially for S-pen then you won't find anything more in Note 3 not in LG G2.(not to mention bigger screen )
and i don't think buying a phone based on its brand value is a good thing; buy a phone that is amusing you.
hope this help.
i have both and they are completely different things. I think that if you can use big screen (you really have to believe) go for note 3. has better screen and more options and of course rooting.
iphone 5s has touch id which is very very useful for buying apps and games while you are using your pass. more compact. has jailbreak (not fully compatible yet) and it is classic apple if you can manage to use it…
final words; if you play games use office and want bigger, more crisp screen go for note 3, if you think you want compact daily use and not customised phone, go for i5s.
thanks.
Whenni allready haf my note 3 i bought an 5S to try it out and see why so much ppl love iphone. After 8 days i sold it again and switched back to my note 3.
You can't do sh*t with an iphone. No customisation. The way whatsapp works suvks balls and no support for sharing. Lets say you want to share a picture from your photo album you cannot choose bluetooth or whatsapp or dropbox or whatever. You must do all things within the designated app. Total BS. No custpm mp3 ringtones because non synced mp3 will not be supported and all that crap.

Thanks for the reply brother. I hated Note 3 when i bought G2, due to massive size and weight of stylus, now when i sold G2 i am open to choices, so just thinking bigger screen can be advantage as well as headache, like you can do anything in android, if i can bear Big size, on the other hand i decided iPhone5s just being smaller and easy to carry and use, thinking too much small size will be just ok, as watching website is not ideal on any mobile for that you have laptop.
As i think, both have advantages and disadvantages, and it will come down to just size, which size i may prefer. too many options in android can be headache for me, simple iPhone where you can't do a **** can be easy. Well !

You are right, i was so much satisfied with LG G2 too, just was bit down due to no market value, and when i got good offer from someone, i thought to sale it, as later it wont bring this money, plus i dont like physical home buttons on touch devices, but now i have to have it. One of these two phones i have to buy now hopefully with determination not to sale them again

Thanks for great guidance. I only rooted and applied custom roms to my once x10 mini, apart from that i never used custom rom just because of reading many people brick devices and confusions and all that, not something clear. I used iPhone 5 twice and i know what is that and only thing i specially hate is you cant share song over whatsapp.
Yeah, deciding factor will be size, if i can live with gigantic size in pocket, i should go for note and may be get cm11 with installer, if i will get iphone, i will only get because i dont want to deal with root and flashing.
I really don't see the point of this thread... You said yourself you hated the note 3.....so why even bother with this post. Just get the iPhone5s and be done with it. You don't even want to put custom rom on the phone and with the other issues like Knox and the likes. Just get an iPhone5s

Its like i don't hate any platform, i didnt like samsung note 3 due to physical home button and size, but i know somehow android can be more beneficial with bigger screen and all, now i have option of both, thats why considering both, with iPhone i have to lose things too, any ways, yeah i wanna avoid custom roms being not clear or easy way to do it, though i love stock android appearance so much. Just got choice thats making me confuse, eventually i know i have to decide one my self as i know most things my self about both platform and phones, tough choice for a guy like me who is not fanboy and who has open choice to make. In the end i say whichever i get, i may get working set.

Well you sold iPhone after 8 days because your needs are very much android like. I liked iPhone twice just becauseyou can't change built in programs like sms, which saved me from tension of which one to chose, so much choices like its tension which to use and which not, one feature is good in one, other feature is good in second app. Yes sharing is an issue but only sharing songs are issue, pics can be shared with whatsapp and everything can be shared in dropbox app and songs can be downloaded via third party app like file master, yes sharing songs via whatsapp is my only grudge, another draw back is apps are not free unless you jail break, which i dont do.
Custom ring tones, i am not fan of songs as ring tones and built ones are just classic, yet you can have custome ringtone too.
Well, your above mention weakness are strength for others and i fall in between of both. wish i could hate one of them like you completely

Yeah, you reminded me, battery is the biggest issue and difference between the two, when i had iPhone 5 twice, it use to last working hours, i was playing games rarely, push was on, with LG G2 battery was massive edge and i feel, Note 3 should be same good in battery.
Yes since i am posting it in Note 3, answer should be Note 3, i have nothing personal against it, when i will try it in some store, i will see if i can carry the monster around with me or not. Another guy has note 3 and its so big against his face and in hands, i wonder how to do it.
Let me make a statement here. A guy above said since Android has ability to change default apps, its cool, which iOS can't. Let me say?
IS ANDROID USELESS AND GARBAGE TO USE, IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO RISK ROOT, FLASHING, I MEAN WITHOUT THIS, YOU CAN ENJOY/USE EVEN THE HIGH END ANDROID PHONE? FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT INTERESTED IN ROOTING? SHOULD NOT CONSIDER ANDROID?
That's what i think, you guys give your opinion. To further back my point, Every one knows LG G2 SMS app was ****, same can be said about Samsung SMS App as well, it was easy to use Hangout which i life being neat, even though lacks features like pop up, but i could not remove or disable LG SMS App without root, which means even if i hide it in Launcher phone always using two apps for same thing? is this not bul****? to use Android? you need to get comfortable with rooting and stuff?
For S Pen Fans?
This question is for S Pen Fans?
I have a shop, i work there, deal with customers, i am normal smart phone user, who is using smartphones since Nokia 6600, way back then.
I understand and i am convinced, Apple changed game, brough touch screen phones to limelight and everything changed? Ruined Nokia of which i was fan.
Now How and due to what Apple managed to change the game? Apple managed to change game by screwing Stylus and bringing finger input method, it was death of stylus, turn out to be stylus was bull****. Now we got rid of it and Samsung, who don't know how to make smooth UI, put it back and telling me its selling feature, fine.
I want fans of S Pen to tell me, how S Pen can help me to use my phone better to those phones without it, like LG G2. Solve my this problem as well, Please. Don't tell me, to make paintings, to write notes, you can type neater, faster and better, and don't even tell me of hover effects, i rather turn those battery enemies and lag friends anyways.
I've had both, I got bored by the fact you can't do much on the iPhone so returned it. Put it this way, the note 3 does everything the iPhone can, and better in every way.

Note 3 size is usually only an issue for a short time. You get used to it very quickly and then when you pick up iPhone you laugh and say how can anyone function on this puny little joke of a screen. Just my personal opinion. I'll never go back to small screen. 6 inch is perfect for me. 7 might even be sometime in the not to distant future.

Let me say?
