Ever since upgrade phone not recognized by pc - Epic 4G General

Is there sum driver not in the new software thats making my pc not recognize my phone anymore
sent using my cup phone nukka

You should choose update driver in device manager and allow Windows Update to search for new drivers.
Could also be a bad cable. They are cheap crap. Get a Blackberry or Palm Pre cable.

I doubt the cable "went bad," more like "was a ****ty cable from the get-go." The stock cables are notorious for having connection issues, especially when using Odin or Heimdall.

Thought the cable was bad so i tried wifes evo w same cable and it connected instantly
Can the charging port go bad and only allow a charge and not a data transfer.
So im back to square one phone stopped connecting to pc since update to gingerbread
Any suggestions or insight on the subject
Plz no stupid grammatical comments or sum other dumb **** thnx

What type of cable is it I know lg ones don't work for samsung but will for the evo for some reason. Also it could be windows screwing with you. Is it showing it as an unknown device if so I know a workaround its not too difficult.

I used a kodak usb cable w a ferrite choke then a blackberry cable a sprint cable and the samsung cable that came w the phone then i tried the evo cable from my wifes phone none worked on my phone they all worked on hers

+1 for this. Also, even if your phone is set to PDA, select Modem and then select PDA again. That's what I had to do with my gf's phone to get it to work

Odin finds one vibrant but not another?

ANy idea why this might be happening>?
Let me consult my tea leaves...
Nope. Sorry, I don't see anything there.
Could you provide a little more information?
Let's assume that both phones are in Download mode.
Let's also assume that you've restarted Odin each time a separate phone is plugged into the USB cable, instead of having the same Odin process try to talk to the 2 separate phones.
Let's assume it's the same USB cable, same port, same computer, and same drivers.
All you assumed is correct and I still cannot connect the other phone to odin. It won't recognise it. It does see mine right away though

Need help

Okay I'm running dj05 modem on rubixs dl30 base last night my phone went crazy. My phone was not reading correct battery stats. I would plug it to charger and within a minute say full charge and the display would flicker while plugged up. So I wiped batt stats that didn't help so I wiped factory reset ans davlik cache. That didn't help so this morning I was going to flask eb01 and now Odin won't recognise my phone. Any help would be greatful.

Yeah def sounds like your cable now. You haven't used any other phones charger lately? This was the undoing of my samsung moment. It became incredibly buggy after using a bb charger one night. Can you attempt a restore or backup through cwm?

You have to be very cautious of the aftermarket chargers and cords you use.

That's not a good sign then. Some aftermarket chargers will fry the ports amoung other things. Attempt a backup/restore and try it with an authorized sammy cord/charger. If that doesn't work then you may have bricked the phone.

Phone isn't recognized in download mode on computer

I'm sure this has already been posted but couldn't find it. But I was trying to flash one of the roms that were posted in here with odin3 and when I put the phone in download mode and Hooke it up to the computer I get either device not recognized or device.malfunctioning but mass storage works no problem. I use the cable that came with the phone and used every USB port on the computer. Any suggestions?

Have you installed Samsung Galaxy S drivers?
I had that problem when trying to flash EB13.
From what others have said here (and my personal experiences with trying to flash EB13) the cable the Epic comes with is crap.
When using another cable, I had much more luck in getting Odin/Windows/Samsung Updater to see my phone.
YMMV though, but it worked for me.
I think you should re-install the drivers, and try a USB port on the back of the computer. Usually the ports on the front of the computer aren't the best for these things.

Reboot computer and reboot phone and try it again thats what worked for me in the past
Reinstall the Epic drivers from Samsung. Make sure to use the back ports on the back of your computer that are on the motherboard. These will provide better and cleaner power to your device, also cycle both the computer and the phone and don't plug in the device till after you have went into download mode. This should fix your problem.
Same thing happened to me. I tried using the micro USB cable from my wifes Blackberry. Works great now. Samsung's cables suck

Beats me then. Try a different computer.
Guys I've had this issue and tried everything you guys have and some. Look at the port directly on your phone. there are tiny little copper contacts on the tooth that can get bent.
You will have to use some tweezers to get it back down but look at this before buying a new usb cable as this was my issue

I have done flashes with thirty to forty percent battery. I don't think odin checks your battery. I would caution against flashing with to low of a battery as your phone can die during a flash.

[Q] No service

Long story short, I found my old Epic with the old firmware, 2.1 (Eclair). I tried to update it to EC05 with Odin and in Recovery modes. In Odin, it fails when it start loading in "Setup Connection." so I was wondering if it was because the phone had no service. If that's the problem, is there another way to update it.
Shouldn't have anything to do with your service... check yur cable
cd's or tapes?
Cable's fine, updated the other phone before the old one and it worked fine.
Do you have the samsung drivers installed? Also try another usb port.

I had this issue yesterday. I was using stock cable (I hear bad things about it but i was too lazy to find another one).
Try different USB ports, leave and go back into recovery mode. It just feels like hit and miss with my Epic using stock cable.

Curious... Did Odin work for you with the old cord? Or transferring files to the sd card? I ask because ADB doesn't work for me since upgrading from Win 7 32 to 64. I can get a little bit of logcat to run sometimes and it hangs but Odin works flawlessly. Have tried several cords (that also work on an old Windows XP machine I have) with no luck. I guess I could try a new cord but that doesn't make sense to me
