I tried to connect my Huawei 3G to ACER A500 flashed with THOR 14.2 with the patch for Huawei.
After restarting ril daemon a popup claim for the PIN Code which is OK.
But then a new popup claim for "SIM Network unlock PIN" which is KO. It's like the A500 was locked for an operator which is not possible because the A500 doesnt have sim.
I'm wondering if there is some modification to do in the build.prop for my operator (SFR France).
(The 3G key works perfectly on a PC with Ubuntu and claim only for the PIN code)
Thx
The a500 is not locked to anything. Never was, never will be.
I suspect 1 thing.
1. The dongle you are trying to use, is not allowed. Did you borrow this from somebody? Without having a lot of dongle experience, it sounds like the dongle is locked.
The fact it asks for a pin code, on a pc, should tell you something. I would suggest, using it on something that can access the dongle memory, and set the pin code lock to the default.

here is what happened...
got my xda 2 a few weeks which was supposedly "unlocked" and installed a sim card from my local provider and i had mobile inernet for about a week and then a few days later it just stopped. i completely lost the signal and up in the connectivity section it just says "no service". i have tried a hard reset and that didnt help. i still dont know when the heck happned or what is wrong but now things have gotten even weirder. when i toggle between flight mode on and off it prompts me saying "sim card blocked. please enter PUK" does this mean my xda 2 is locked? is it possible for a device to be unlocked and then locked all over again for some reason?
i tried using the unlocking tool from this site but the one that runs off you desktop pc tells me the phone is already unlocked and the one you run off your pocket pc tells me everything is fixed but i still get prompted for the PUK?
your problem is that your SIM card is locked, not your device. This mostly happens when you try to enter the PIN code 3 times without success. The only way out is to enter the PUK code, so you can change the SIM password.
In Europe, this code is mostly given to you at signup time. Here, in the US, they make you call the telcom operator and dig it out of them, if you get a competent person on the other end of the phone line.
So, my bet is that you entered the wrong pin code for your phone -- and maybe you did this without even knowing you did it.
sigh...to tell you the truth i was hoping it was a locked xda 2...maybe that would of explained why im not getting a signal ...
You are not getting a signal because the puk is now required to access the sim/service provider. You should be able to get the puk by calling your provider or online through your providers internet site, you should then have a working phone again. To prove this to yourself just place another sim in the phone.
if i change the rom to an i-mate jasjar or any other will it be unblocked?
No
why is that ?
I'm not an expert but Sometimes I wonder why is that, If we replace ech and every file of locked mda-pro with unlocked jasjar ?? then there should be no reason for a locked mda-pro.
can anyone explain inside science of locking & unlocking ?
I think it also depends on the definition of "blocked"
If the phone iteslf has had its IMEI blocked, then no amount of reprogramming/reflashing will unblock it.
If the phone has a simlock on it, then I believe this would be to do with something within the phone hardware itself.
Hi guys
That old chestnut again, locked and blocked are 2 completely different issues and unfortunately neither of these actually involves anything that is didrectly under the control of pocket windows.
There are 2 types of locking.
1) PUK locking (SIM Locking), this occurs if you incorrectly enter the SIM pin code 3 times in a row. If this happens you need to contact the network provider to get PUK unlock code, better still if you enter the PUK code incorrectly 5 times you will destroy the sim and need t get a new one.
2) Network Locking is a flag that specifies the LAIN of the mobile network that supplied the mobile phone and if this feature is enabled by the operator it will mean that only a SIM card that has the corect LAIN will work in that phone. I forget what LAIN stands for but basically it is used in the GSM international roaming world and therefore each operator has its own, the first few digits indciate the country then the last ones the specific network.
This can be disabled in 2 ways firstly by using and encrypted code specifically issued for your handset. Or secondly by trial and error by writing different values to the registers on the EPROM on the GSM unit itself. Eventually this will result in the phone unlocking itself. In order to do this the gsm engine needs to be removed from the handest and interfaced to a serial port. A 0 or a 1 is then sent to each register 1 ata time and the phone is then tested to see if it works. Depending on the size of the chip this takes a long time. However when you no the memeory location of the register this can then be done to any phone in a matter of minutes. this is basically the way modsyt of the unlocking systems are developed.
Finally IMEI blocking. This is done where the network has evidence that a crime has taken place either fraud commited on the handest, abusive phone calls or the unit has been stolen. If the network IMEI blocks it you have 2 options, 1 sell it in a diferent country ( Nigeria) or some chip sets contain the IMEI details on a flash chip. Again the registers are read over a serial interface and this can be rewritten. The first phones to support this IMEI in flash were the siemens TC35 gsm engines also the wavecom gsm modules support this. I am not really sure of any legitimate application for changing the IMEI of a mobile handest or even why this data is not writen in ROM but there you go.
I hope that helps to clear up issues relating to locking and blocking.

Charlie
thanks for such informative essay, we all are concerned about the network locking. I have noticed a tool to remove simlock from HTC wizard using same OS as HTC Universal. but in the above post its mentioned that OS has nothing to do with unlocking ..
But unloking tool of all old HTC devices running WM 2003 never took so long as in the case of Universal ? or may be quite possible that all good brains of our forum dont use Universal ?
Morning!
Ok I reflashed my SGS with I9000XWJM2 yesterday, all went OK.
The problem is, the phone doesn't ask for my PIN code and therefore don't register to my GSM/3G network!
I tried removing the SIM-card and put it back in, but still it doesn't ask for my PIN code.
What's up with this?!
I'm having trouble network unlocking my Samsung Jack, my friend with Tmobile really needs a spare phone for a month or so. I says it's Sim unlocked when I check with the codes I found with google searches but the method described to network unlock says I have the wrong MNC

Samsung Jack network unlock
Hi I want to replace the dc power jack of my laptop. I have found the part which is a
Samsung R519 DC Power Jack and cable. Which is the best way to remove the broken power jack and where would I plug the new one onto the motherboard.
Many thanks in advance.
Unlock Samsung Jack phone
Using unlock code: This is also known as 'remote unlocking' and unlocking phone by entering unique unlock code into phone, which remove the restrictions, and this is the most guaranteed method to unlock a Samsung Jack phone.
Have you tried the following:
(I was able to unlock my Samsung Epix with this, it is said to work for the Omnia and Jack)
Disclaimers:
1. Besides the Epix, I haven't tried this on other Samsung phones, so no idea if it'll work on the BlackJack II or Propel Pro.
3. Make sure you enter the correct codes. Don't enter * where # is required or vice versa.
First we need to lock the phone to AT&T. Lock the phone? Yes it's already locked, but it is locked with some code generated at AT&T's request. We are going to lock the phone with our own unlock code and then we'll be able to use our own code instead of AT&T's to unlock it.
1) From the Today or Home screen, type in *7465625*638*#
2) Enter the Mobile Network Code of AT&T in the first field. 310410.
Note that on the Jack, you will only see asterisks. I don't remember if this was the case on the Epix but you should be OK as long as you are careful to type in the correct numbers.
If you see three fields, you have to re-enter 310410 in the second field.
3) In the last field, enter 12345678 (This will be the unlock code.)
4) Press OK (it should tell you SIMLock is enabled.)
Now, we are going to unlock the phone.
1) From the Today or Home screen, type #7465625*638*#
2) Enter the code we assigned earlier. 12345678
That's it. You can now use a SIM card from AT&T, T-Mobile, blue AT&T Wireless or whatever GSM carrier you want. The unlock will survive hard resets.
I've just got the s4 on EE but need it unlocking, I bought a code for 14.99 it didn't work so I bought another from a different place exactly same code lol so I've tried but all I get is unsuccessful I've tried the freeze code that they supplied too but for some reason it won't unlock.
Is there another method to unlock it?
I have exactly the same problem. I bought code (got four codes: NETWORK, PROVIDER, SUBPROVIDER, DEFREEZE) and it didn't work. In email there was couple of methods but I can't go to Network Lock screen after I typing this in dialer *7465625*638*# and don't have idea how to get to MCC/MNC to put code for the service provider.
If someone know at least how to solve this I would be more than happy.
Phone is locked in 3 Sweden.
[EDIT] ok, i managed to unlock - i tried Provider code and then Defreeze code instead of typing Network code. don't know if its matter but before i did it i was trying with simcard from 3 to use some of Dialer codes - but any of them didn't work so i switched to locked simcard and with Provider + Defreeze codes combination.
