[Q] Applications not showing up in Market? - Kindle Fire General

After installing Android Market, many applcations aren't showing up on my KF, from "Yahoo Fantasy" to "Google Earth.
Is there a way around this. I know on my phone you use to have to edit the build prop or something to get the Market to show all the apps.

protected apps don't show up - use sideloading
have tried editing the fingerprint in build.prop - it brings you more troubles ...
(amazon services, incompatible apps, ...)
if someone knows a compatible fingerprint, please post it !

Yeah, sideloading is really the best option. Find a website (like apktop or similar) that has apps available for download and then just download them and install.
Another option, if you have an Android phone, is to download the app, then send it to yourself via email or Dropbox.
Haven't messed around with build.prop myself, it's too scary to me. So far I've only come across maybe two apps that I haven't been able to sideload successfully.

hijack this thread with a related question...
sideloaded apps do not show up in market. is there any way to have them show up there? or have to manually update using apks?
thanks.
n00bsh1t

goto settings -> applications -> market
clear cache -> clear data -> force close -> reboot KF
after reentering the market you should have your apps (with a bit of luck)
if they are not protected apps. sideloaded protected apps you'll never see in the market.

Installing the Market??

Basically anyone have any idea how to install the market? I tried installing latest built of the Android Market but it wont launch...
Did you try the normal set of steps to get the Market working? (Part 3 from this post)
Eg. Open Market (fail). Stop Google Services Framework and Market from Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. Clear the cache / data for Google Services Framework and Market. Open the Market and you should receive an error message. Reboot the device and re-open the Market. It should go through this time. Some people then recommend rebooting one more time.
I don't have the Adam in my hands, so I can't test this right now. You can also use Titanium Backup to stop the apps and clear the cache / data which is attached to the bottom of this post.
thanks for the info. i will try to get it installed. but unfortunate i gotta work now. so i wont have an answer until tonight

Doesn't the market have to be put in /system/app? And at that point you need root to install it? I'm not sure if that's correct or not, but that's my understanding.

I'm honestly not sure. I've always done the Market fix from ROMs that had the market pre-packaged, but not working. Unfortunately, I don't have any devices to test... still waiting on my Adam to be shipped (on the 29th). Perhaps someone with more Market fix experience can chime in... or some research on other parts of XDA might be helpful.
It looks like some of the devs (from the G-Tab forums) are already on top of things... check out some of the threads from the Development section. Specifically, in this thread, rothnic has already released an update.zip package that adds root access and the stock Google Apps.
It also looks like Roebeet from the G-tablet section has also installed the NI firmware on his gtablet which means we should expect some benefits to bleed over from the work they do for the G-tablet.

[QA][APP] Questionnaire for those suffering under the new Market.apk

From other forums it's apparent that the Market issues are not NC/custom ROM/root specific. Lots of folks are having issues, including stock users, rooted users and custom rom folks.
But there are also folks that have no problems at all. So for the sake of gathering proper information perhaps this questionnaire may help folks find some pattern?
If you are having problems with the new Market, please take the time to fill this form out. I hope this will eventually help someone out with their market problems.
/disclaimer: I have not used the new Market at all, but I presume that it may eventually auto-update so I want to prepare myself ahead of time. At worst case I may learn something new from the responses and that alone is worthwhile.

Hopefully I'm Being an Idiot -- Can't Install Certain Apps From The Market

I'm running NexusHD-Gingerbread v2.9 on my HD2. It's a fresh install and I've just discovered that I can't install Facebook, Google Maps, Google Street View, and Google My Tracks (possibly other apps, too) from the market.
Is there something I need to change in the build.prop? Am I overlooking something dead simple?
I have the same problem and have seen the same question posted on several other threads. There does not seem to be a solution across the multiple ROM and platform world. I have tried the build prop edit on my wifes newly flashed HD2 without success. Unfortunately she go t into the game after the last market update..so now she doesn't even get an out of date Utube, Facebook, GoogleMaps etc.. I have suspicion this is a much larger problem but that most people have not noticed because they already have older apps from before market update. Lookse like we have Big Brother Google trying to get us to conform to either buying a new phone or sticking with stock ROM. It would be great if someone could share a permanent solution with our outcast community
To fix this:
1- Go to Market > Titanium Backup > Install .
2- Open Titanium Backup and look for an app called "Market Updater", hit it and choose "Freeze".
3- Download and install a previous version of the Market, say version 2.XX.X, if you cant install it normally, rename the apk to "Vending.apk" and push it to /system/app/ using (adb push Vending.apk /system/app/) or from terminal within phone (su *hit enter* cp /sdcard/vending.apk /system/app/)
4- Go to Settings > Manage Apps > All > Market > Uninstall updates
5- [Skip if your country supports paid apps] Use Market Enabler to set your SIM to T-mobile US.
6- Go to market > Accept Terms and Conditions > Enjoy your Market ! and the INSTALL/BUY button will always be there for you !!
(This is a temporary workaround, until a fix is rolled from Google or whoever.)
Funny, not everyone have this issue, hope the above workaroud works for you.
yea its working great over here and so fast, seriously i found this is the best rom
Thank you, this does get more access to more app downloads. Would be nice to have latest market at some point.

[Q] App stuck "Installing". How to cancel?

I made the mistake of trying to update a custom netflix APK to the latest Netflix out of the Amazon Appstore. Ever since, I've had an "Installing notification" and the app store lists the Netflix app as "Retrieving your app from the cloud."
I've rebooted, uninstalled the custom Netflix APK, reinstalled the custom APK, uninstalled again, and booted without network connectivity. I can't seem to cancel the installation.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I was unable to find a solution and Amazon's support couldn't help me, so I reformatted the device.
Warning to others: Don't ever click "upgrade" from the Amazon Appstore over a custom APK.
I had the same problem. Not sure how I got into the position but I had 3 apps downloading from the cloud forever.
Support could not come up with a solution so the only solution was to reset the device, I had to wait until the unit had 40% charge to do that. After I reset, it has worked fine since.
I did not try to upgrade anything yet when this happened. I think it might have had something to do with GetJar which I got before it showed the Kindle Fire as a supported device (just used another 2.3 droid device)
Zathbu is right. you're better off not trying to upgrade a sideloaded apk via the app store. one of the reasons being amazon stores its apps (meaning, the ones u get from their store) on the cloud, but sideloaded apks are stored on the device. and besides, i believe the apks from the amazon app store are treated differently. i have both android market and amazon app store on my phone and the apps i get from the app store are not "seen" by the market at all (even if they are present on both places)
I pretty much had the same problem. I had side loaded an APK of an App I had previous on my Droid phone, and then decided to download from the Amazon AppStore instead (better resolution of icon!). It even nicely said that I had an app installed that wasn't registered to my account, and would I like to overwrite it. Obviously, I said "Yes". The app just sat there installing forever, and no amount of reboots would fix it, or allow any subsequent app installs. Mistake....well temporarily.
The fix is this (if I remember correctly!):
1. Click on Settings (Cog)
2. Click on More (+)
3. Click on Applications
4. Ensure Drop Down says "All Applications"
5. Select Appstore
6. Select Clear Data (this won't affect your other installed apps)
7. Reboot
At that point, you should probably uninstall the offending side loaded APK file, using the same method above (Steps 1 thru 4). Instead of selecting Appstore, choose your app, then click Uninstall instead. Then install from the Appstore instead.
Hope this helps someone.
Glad someone found a GUI method of doing this. In case that doesn't work for some people, I also had luck clearing the contents of /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache/. You should be able to do that from an adb shell window, or a root-enabled file browser.
EDIT: After a quick brain fart, I realized that since that is technically on the "sdcard" partition of the OS, you should be able to remove those APKs from the cache with the Kindle tethered via the USB cable.
This is what I do, root not needed nor rebooting:
1) I use ES File Explorer to clear /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache but any file manager should work.
2a) Use settings-> applications to clear the data and force stop Amazon appstore
2b) Or use any app manager or most app2sd apps to go to the detail page for the appstore and clear data and force stop. The app manager built into ES File Manager will work fine. I only list this as the second alternative since the other way uses the built-in settings vs. this requiring an app.
3) Go to the app section/tab on the launcher then select store to restart the appstore.

You can also install a task manager and kill the "AppStore" process. That worked for me.
Worked for me!

Hi, I followed this steps and my appstore is working now. Thank you,

My Apps is empty in Market

Hi All,
There are already threads for this problem, but all possible solutions are not working
My apps are not showing anymore in Market.
Clear cache is not working
Clear cache and reboot is not working
Clear cache foreclose and reboot is not working
Market dokter Titanium does not work
I always get a agreement of de market but again my apps are empty.
Did a full wipe and reinstalled ARHD 6.3.2 then restoren my apps by Titanium
A see all the Apps in my Apps, but again later on... everything is empty
Somebody have same issues?
Cheers,
Peter
If you find an app you have purchased before, does it allow you to install it? Or does it say its "incompatible" with your device?
It is allowed to download it and install it. And i have no new phone... so maybe my account is corrupt at Google side?
Try the following, if you have superuser permissions.
In the file /system/build.prop find the line starting with ru.build.fingerprint, and replace symbols JFM to JJ7
If this not works, in the same file find the option ro.sf.lcd_density=167 and change 167 to 160. You may set another value, eg. 240.
After saving the changes you should reboot.

Care to elaborate? Or do I need to remove your post?
My ro.build.fingerprint is like:
ro.build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_ace/ace:2.3.5/GRJ90/$:user/release-keys
Do i replace GRJ90 then?
ro.sf.lcd_density=240 this is my line
Have change this things but did not work.
clear cache did also not work again...

Better first try to change LCD density to 160. I'm not sure about fingerprint in non-Russian roms
Btw, are the permissions for build.prop set correctly after making changes?

Try everything nothing helped...
I use a build.prop editor this saves the file and correct the permissions.
Even uninstalled the market update did not work
IT is working again:
unimstalled the update of market
Clean data from google services framework.
Then force close
Clean data of market
Then force close
Reboot
Now it seems to work....
After update of market app the problem is back. Now i try the same steps as above...
After the steps above without remove market update i got my list back...
But after a change from portrait to landscape the list is gone again....
Seems like Google developers "fixed" something again. Try to ask their support
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
I discover it was a App problem. When i did a full restore of Titanium the problem was there... When i did every time 5 apps restore i use for long time the problem was gone...
I do not know that app gives this error.. because i delete all other apps what i think it was the problem and even do not use them anymore as well..
It is a update of something .. so my problem is solved.
Also, Market Fixer can help to solve the problem. Root required!
Market fixer did not work... have try that already.. but it is solved now...
Official fix for me...
Requirements:
Market Fixer app installed
Faith and patience
Intructions:
1) go to manage applications in your settings, tap view all and force close "Market" (don't delete any data)
2) while still there, also delete "Google Services Framework"'s data and force close it
3) run "Market Fixer", tap analyse market links, select all of them and tap remove market links ONLY
4) go to "My Apps" inside Android Market and make sure there's a Retry button on the screen telling you it couldn't communicate with the server, if there isn't, repeat step 2 and re-check
5) re-run "Market Fixer" to be sure the links didn't get recreated, and if none appear, reboot
6) go to "My Apps" as soon as you boot completely
7) if previously bought apps appear on the list, go to the free apps category and install a new one (this will recreate your market's database with working information)
8) check "My Apps" one last time, all apps should be there now
9) if you want, reboot once more and go to "My Apps" again to make sure everything's in working order with your "My Apps" list
10) dance the macarena, shoot a few hoops or just enjoy your victory like i did
11) make sure you don't re-link those evil apps to your market so you don't have to redo all of this
***As you could've noticed, the idea behind the first five steps is to keep the market from recreating the links or having to clear the data for Google Services Framework many times (both happen when the market's still running in background).***
