[Q] Faster maps on any ROM - Wildfire General

Hi,
I made a research and found out, that there are two versions of google mobile maps. Raster and vector.
The second option offers 3D view, but the first one is way smoother on WF as it does not use so much CPU.
There are two ways (probably) to have raster maps on CM7
1. Install a version of maps below 5.0 (it doesn't have vector maps)
2. Edit some file in in system or data turning off vector maps.
Question is: How to make the 2nd way? Anybody knows that?
If you want to try smoothness of google maps on WF just delete data, uninstall the ones you have and install 4.6 or anything like that

Yes, ive noticed the 3D maps are much more laggy and sometimes my phone crashes when dragging two fingers

Tried to modify persist.sys.use_dithering in build.prop as suggested by kylon, author of RemPuzzle ROM with raster maps but it failed.
Anyone have any idea where to find that magical option to turn off vector maps?

Not sure about you, but using Navigation on Google maps 5 or below results in a crash/black screen on my wildfire (CM7).

Would be very nice, Google Maps/Navigation has always been laggy here...

Lotsa questions. Opera/slowing down/voice gps/facebook?

Okay. I've had my T-Mobile TP2 since the day they released in NA. I did a little of messing around with cabs and themes back then, but then kinda left the scene. I'm back now, and have quite a few questions. If you could answer ANY of these, I'd be most grateful.
Is there a way to uninstall the crappy Opera that comes with the phone? The 10 beta is infinitely better.
Is there a way to change the bookmarks that are listed on the Launch Browser tab? Or did Windows just assume that every person likes Youtube, CNN, ESPN, and Facebook?
What is causing my phone to slow down so badly? When I first got it, it ran like the roadrunner, but now its chugging at everything. I delete my texts and photos on a constant basis and the device has over 100mb onboard memory left; most of my apps go to my SD card.
Is there a program as good as Google Maps that supports voice, turn-by-turn GPS other than Nav4All? [which I hated]
Is there any Facebook apps that are as good and CURRENT [where's my like button, clown?] as the Blackberry/iPhone apps? If not, what is the best one available?
Is there anyway to zoom on the Camera...? The T-Mobile Dash [HTC Excalibur] had several levels of zoom, and this seems to have none?
How do you get the weather to appear on your home page, similar to this link: http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/8783/screen06.png [doesn't have to be exactly like that, I just want it on the homepage.]

I have the T-Mobile USA Touch Pro 2 as well and there's only one Facebook app I've seen and thats in the marketplace.

you can download this one from here if you don't have the marketplace.
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-facebook-mobile-by-smarttouch.html
and I don't know how this one works but it says that you don't need a data plan.
That facebook app is the one I had. It's absolutely awful. Thank you for letting me know they haven't gotten a new one yet though.
O ok. Yeah its not that good I don't like it either but I'd rather have that than nothing. I hope they update it.
[I'll have a go at a couple of them, but I think you should look at flashing with a custom ROM which will solve nearly all of the problems

That could be a part of your problem. Program access from the memory card is slow on my TP2

Tomtom works really well once tweaks listed at the top of this board are done

This is in the new versions of manilla 2.5 and some of the 2.1 versions. You will need to flash to use them, tho'
EDIT: Ark's Xperia panels have a nice facebook app, well its better than the MS one anyway! The panels work but my device slowed down too much with them loaded

A. Is TomTom free?
B. How do I "flash w/a ROM?"
C. Thanks.
On the camera question, there is a zoom capability, while in camera mode, slide your finger on the zoom bar and you will see another on-screen zoom bar come up and the image should zoom in (depending which way you are sliding your finger). All of this is digital zoom though, but the feature is there.

Google Maps questions

So I have a few questions about Google maps.
- First, is there anyway to have smooth zooming w/ pinch to zoom?
- Is there anyway to load the images as Im panning? Idk if i'm the only one but when I pan in GMaps, any area that wasn't displayed shows up as gray until I release my finger drag, then the map redraws. Even if I try and pan back the screen seems to have to re fresh, but it only refreshes when I lift my finger up
- And last, any thoughts on Google Navigation coming to the HD2? That would be great if it did.
That's pretty much all I've got. Any help would be awesome

I don't have any issues with "sketchy" pinch-to-zoom functions in Google Maps. All of "my maps" render just fine, perfectly executed upon request.
As for the Google Navigation program, that does exist, unofficially of course. And you certainly won't find it here... at least not that I know of. Try (ironically) Google searching and you should come across something from another website, very similar to XDA.
Hmmmmm.... Thats good that GNavigation works on the HD2. I'll wait for an official release (unless there is an announcement that it won't officially come to the HD2)
I don't think that the maps are "sketchy". I think I just have a setting or something set that makes them not cache or update during "Pan" events.
As for the zoom, it just feels like there is no tweening between the zoom levels. ie, as I'm pinching, it jumps from level to level w/o any intermediate zooming. I don't know if that makes any sense.
If there isn't any settings that help these then that's cool and I'll just deal with it (my wife has an android phone and I get crap from her cuz "Your phone is the best" but it can't do [insert function] that mine can!)
Thanks!

[Q] Google Maps Battery Drain

Is there any way to stop maps from keeping my phone awake? I barely use the app and it is one of the top 3 power consumers
Make sure you keep latitude off as well as location history
Sent from the Nodes of Ranvier
you need to finish the Navigation "setup" and usually if you see Google Maps still open and draining its Navigation
Also Google Now, Current and News & Weather are using Maps to find your current position.
By turning this 3 off (current and News completly uninstalled) the drain for maps is nearly completly gone.

[Q] Tasker trigger GPS when maps open (G3 rom)?

I installed Tasker (and Secure Settings latest version, granted root) and want to trigger GPS on (high accuracy location) when open Maps and Camera. Also I want to turn off location when return to home screen.
I tried so many different ways, set up a task when I opened maps, I choose Secure Settings, GPS on, Location services on .. but it never works!
Please if anyone is running on G3 ROM (or even G2 ROM) could shed some light on me for this problem?
Cheers:good:
P/S: running Lamhoang G3 and Dorimanx 6.5.1. If it's possible, please share me your file. Cheers!
Try this solution using AutoInput: http://guidecosmos.blogspot.com/2015/03/tasker-how-to-turn-on-gps-to-hgh.html
The first task got maps removed from it. There is now a separate task to open maps. If you clone the first task that set High accuracy mode and renamed it, you can modify it to set mode back to 'battery saver'.
Here are mine. Remember, this requires AutoInput: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autoinput

MacroDroid should work too. It's easier to handle than Tasker.

GPS and Root

Hello. Today I installed AICP ROM and also rooted my device. Unfortunelly turning on OSMAND navigation app with GPS permission makes phone crash. GPS off for this app make all works good. What can I do?
For me with the latest build the GPS works fine with Citymapper, Here Maps and Google Maps ( unless I use battery saver, in that case it gives me a slightly wrong position of a few meters on the map). Try to use Here Maps or Google Maps with GPS, if it still freeze get a log (this from page one post 2 of AICP rom) and with that you can ask mosimchah ( he cannot help without a log ):
Q. How do I get a logcat, and what type should I get, and more questions that can conveniently be answered by my pre-determined answer?
A. Read this thoroughly. Also, here's a good app for getting logs: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....tortel.syslog
( https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/development/rom-pre-official-aicp-12-1-android-7-1-t3575378 )
I forgot to write, lastest kernel (1.7) solved the problem. 1.6 made trouble.
