[Q] Is it safe to wipe Kindle fire? - Kindle Fire General

Hello, after using cm7 there was a lot of left over apps still on my device. I was wondering if it would be safe to format/delete all of the files on the /sdcard folder. Also how would i delete "restore" to back to out-of-the-box with nothing on but the os?
Thanks for your time!

Formatting SDCard

Hey I just rooted my phone today and installed CM7 succesfully, I was wondering if I could totally format my sdcard as alot of the files on there are left from apps that came installed with my phone. What folders/files should i not delete or would it be safe to just delete everything. Thanks.
Most is safe but you need to save bare minimum .android-secure most everything else is safe. Hope that helps
What if I was to wipe data/cache format sdcard then re-install CM7. Wouldn't that work aswell?
That won't have any effect on your SD card. With the exception, of course, of any apps installed on the SD, which are placed in the .android_secure structure.

I don't get what you're trying to say....
I WANT to erase everything on my sdcard, and I'm wondering if I do that will CM7 get messed up.
I can't vouch for CM7, but you can format your entire card and once mounted again, it will start "Preparing SD Card." All of the important stuff - e.g. .android_secure - will be re-created by Android.
I then just copy back any particular files I want - e.g. images, music, etc.
I don't see any reason why it'd be any different on CM7 as that's just vanilla Android + the Cyanogen tweaks. I did this many times with my G1.
As always, make a backup of the entire card first.

How to clean leftover stuff in clean install of CM7?

Hi,
I just did a clean install of CM7 (wiped system, data, cache). Everything works perfectly. However in File Manager I can still see epub ebooks I have from a previous install, a B&N Downloads folder, an adobe digital editions file, ...
How do I get rid of these as part of the clean install process? I mean, I can connect the Nook to my PC and manually delete them, but is there a way to wipe these before installing a new ROM?
Thanks a lot!
Paul
No help with this after three months?
The only additional information is that before my clean install I had swapped the sd card and emmc (per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034939).
I would manually delete anything you don't want with root explorer. Do this once, and you don't have to worry about it. Possibly format the areas it's in. I don't like to do this unless it's really necessary.

You have to do it manually. Wiping the data with CWR only wipes the data folder.

[Q] FileExpert gets all APKs

Hi guys,
a quick question. On a regular Xoom (out of the box, unrooted, unflashed etc), FileExpert is able to back up all the apps to an external SD Card. I then flashed my device and verified I could restore the apps from the backed up APKs. How can File Expert rip the APKs from /data? Isn't it supposed to be protected, and accessible only via root?
Thanks,
John
(If you see my other post, I backed up BEFORE rooting).

[Q] TWRP Backups; I've already copied them to my PC...

...would it be OK to delete them from them TWRP backups folder, in order to save space? I could free up a solid gig. Either way, I will make a couple more backups on my PC and put them on a couple USB thumb drives, btw. Thanks.
You need to keep at least one on the Kindle in case something goes wrong and you can't use adb so you can restore.

I figured as much. I believe the stock backup is 300mb and the CM7 backup is a little over 700mb.

TWRP has a mount button, which would allow you to mount the kindle as a usb drive. So technically, you could keep no images on, but mount through TWRP and copy back over if you really had to. Theres also an option to compress the backup during creation.

[Q] Restoring Backup ROM Problems:

Hello, everyone, I came to this forum in hope for some advice with a problem I'm having. I'm sure I'll be sticking around as I just got a new S5 for Christmas, though. I apologize if these threads are redundant, but I've searched this forum and Google and haven't found a solution. First things first, I have a T-Mobile S5 running 4.4.2 and I rooted, installed CWM with Phil's Touch and created a backup. I saved the backup to my internal sdcard storage and copied a backup on my PC via usb. I've since deleted the backup saved to my internal storage to save space and would like to place it back in my phone to restore. I have not installed a custom ROM yet or re-partioned anything. The reason I'd like to restore is because my dumb-ass accidentally uninstalled the stock video/audio player while attempting to remove bloatware. I now can't listen to or view any videos sent via text without first downloading them and using an installed app' to play them. (Any tips on this would be nice.) Here's my main issue: when I attempted to place the backup back into my Clockworkmod/Backup/ folder, I'm prompted with a message saying I can't move this item. I've tried moving the file on my PC as well as my phone and had no success. I then tried using a root file manager to manually place the backup into the clockwork folder (it allowed me to put the backup in my phone's storage, but not clockwork's backup folder) and it ended up placing it the folder in clockwork, but not the backup folder. The folders now go: Clockworkmod/'My saved backup' - Backups folder/ empty. I can't move nor delete that file because it is write protected and I have no idea what to do from here. I need to restore my backup and definitely remove the copy that's write protected as it is taking a few gb's of storage. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I will likely give a small Paypal donation to the best response. (preferably tonight, if possible.) Thanks, guys. Let me know if you need any other details.
Update: I just tried installing Phil's Touch Aroma File Manager as I read that can delete/edit write-protected files and I'm not able to launch it in recovery. The folder and zip files were correctly placed, but it won't recognize the folder. I don't understand why my phone isn't recognizing anything in the Clockwork folder.
