I have a brand new mytouch that is unlocked and I would like to root it in order to update to a newer version of Android. It was recommended to me that I root and put the Cyanogen mod to update it. And to also install ROM Manager . Does this sound logical? If so, is that the correct order?
Also, any idea how I can research to find out what versions of Android my hardware can handle? Obviously, I would like to have the newest version possible.
Thanks!

What do you have currently? Android version? Radio? Hboot?
The process is something like this:
1. Root
2. Flash a custom recovery
3. Flash rom
4. ........?
5. Profit!!
I ran ezterrys ezgingerbread rom (android 2.3.7) on my mytouch and it ran well.

Hi guys I'm new here and need some help...
I am currently using a Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 on baseband version XXUBMGA. I have rooted and installed TWRP v2.5.0.0.
1) I have TWRP v2.5.0.0 and I want to update to TWRP v2.5.0.2, can i just flash the latest version through Odin? Or do I need to remove the older version of TWRP first? If so, how?
2) I'm looking for a rom for my phone like the Google Edition but with more features, however I want the phone to be stable and be able to be used as a daily driver. I have seen a rom called JellyBam, has anyone had any experience with it and if so, was it good?
I would like to go with CynagoenMod but there are only nightlies for the i9505 and I heard they are unstable with a lot of bugs, is this true? Is the latest version stable?
Cheers!

Hi,
1. No you don't need to remove, just flash the newer version over the one you have. Usually you will find this information on TWRP thread on first pages.
2. To keep features of the phone, just check development forums for I9505 and read more about the custom ROMS available there and what people saying about and you gonna be able to decide yourself what suits you best.
Cheers

1) flash it with odin, it will replace the old one.
2) you can try roms and decide. (read posts on rom threads to have an idea)
Thanks both for the replies, greatly appreciated! I will have a look at the section here on XDA and decide Thank for the help!
hi guys just new here at htc glacier forum so be patient with me.
here's the thing:
i wanted to root my friends phone with information as stated below:
software info
android version 2.3.4
htc sense ver 2.1
software number
2.32.531.1
kernel version 2.6.35.10-g4dbcb781 [email protected] #1
this is what i am thinking for rooting the said device:
1. by downloading and flashing this CWM
link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242901
2. after flashing the CWM i will try to boot on CWM and flash the flashable SuperSU.zip downloaded here at xda.
my question is, WILL THIS METHOD WORK?

I've been trying to find a way to root this phone for about a week now. All the guides I've found on here are either outdated or having missing files. And haven't had anyone reply to my post for help. If you find a way I'd appreciate it if you could let me know, and if I find anything that works I'll let you know. Good luck.
I don't see much rooting about the i9506, more about ROMs. I am on Android 5.0.1. I'd like to root my phone and move to a newer Android. Can I get some guidance on that? So far I downloaded CF-Root from mobi.firmware. Is that the best way to go?
What version of TWRP should I look for?
Also, regarding ODIN, is it specific to the OS version or can I always just use the latest when changing ROMs?
So I recently bought this device (rocking it, totally worth it c103) and I really wanted to update it to at least nougat to get the new vulkan compatible drivers (or mainly opengl es 3.2).
Questions are;
1. Do I need root before flashing anything at all? If yes, can someone guide me to the right way?
2. I am running EUI 5.8.018s or something. Would the version matter?
3. I've done some readings and correct me if I'm wrong, I need to flash twrp first > flash root > and flash rom, right?
Thanks in advance.
This is my first attempt to root and despite reading allot still very confused on allot of the lingo and what to do. I had unlocked the bootloader with TWRP.
I tried rooting with Magisk 21.4 and it sent me into a boot loop and I did not realize a backup in Switch was not the same as in TWRP so had to learn how to put stock firmware back with LGUP.
I have US996 running Adroid 8.0 Kernel 3.18.71 software, OPR1.170623.032 build.US99620F Never rooted. Bootloader unlocked TWRP
Next day Magisk 22 came out
The app is on the phone, I am looking at the instructions and confused how to root.
1. is "patching", rooting?
2. I just want the root on stock Android 8.0.0
I need the boot .img of what? Of the stock android 8? Of something else?
3. I tried getting a boot image from LG Extract but only saw a DZ file and if I tried to extract that only see something with the word " boot_6 Bin" So I am still missing something on how this is done.
Is the boot.img usually of the software you want to try running or always the stock? Do you have to root eac time you try different or once rooted always rooted to flash other roms?
Thanks for any guidence. I tried on my own for days and really lost on all this.
Hi,
What is the best way to ask for help on this? Thanks
I still am requesting help. I need to root my US996 so I can get at least PIE running as I have an issue with an app that says it requires 9 or above.
If somebody can point me in the correct direction I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

On Alpha Omega Rom, I had the best results with the included Magisk installer. It's now on version 22 without any issue. Keep in mind that version 20.2 might have some compatibility issues with the V20. That won't have any impact on your ability to run software that requires Android 9, however.
This is how new I am with this stuff. What is an alpha omega rom? Does that mean stock factory rom of Android 8?
I have version 22 on my phone. Do I need to root? How do I root? I do not understand how this works now. I have tried reading help files but I dont understand what to do after I unlocked the bootloader.
What do I need next with Magisk 22 to root the phone or do I just need a rom of Android 9 or higher?
Thanks for any guidence.

Alpha Omega Rom is a custom build of the V20 system software based on LG's original stock Rom (see the links thread for more information). For the North American variants of the V20, several releases of the stock Rom based on Android 7 and Android 8 were released. Only the Korean model received a stock Rom based on Android 9, and it was never backported, so, if it's Android 9 (or newer) that you're after, you'll have to go for one that's not based on the stock rom (which will cause you to lose certain exclusive features, including the stock camera app, FM radio, Voice-over-LTE, and probably other things).
Once Magisk Manager is installed, it can act as a root manager, but only if your device's bootloader is already unlocked, which can only be done on certain variants (US996 North American unlocked is the easiest, but it is possible on some of the others as well, but only if you roll back to an exploitable version of the stock rom and use the Dirty Santa strategy described on this forum). Installing an unofficial Rom or kernel also requires an unlocked bootloader.
Thanks I have the bootloader unlocked using TWRP and on stock oreo 8.0
