Unwanted spam messages appears on my phone - Desire HD General

So I'm on MIui and for the past 4 weeks I've been receiving approx 1 "spam" message a week which appears in the header of my screen.
It's a little bit annoying, and obviously, I'd like to get rid of them given a choice.
I've attached a screenshot showing the issue.
Is there any advice on how I can stop this spam message being received in the future please?
A cursory google search and an xda search has revealed no obvious answers
Thanks in advance

Looks like you have downloaded an app with airpush advertising, at least I think its called airpush anyway.
There is an app you can download that will tell you which app is the culprit or alternatively there is an opt out app that you can download.
I had the same problem after downloading a youtube downloader so I know how annoying it is
I'll check it up and get back to you.

thanks
appreciate you taking the time.
It's annoying!

http://newbwired.com/2011/06/10/removing-airpush-from-your-android-device/
seems to have solved it for me - a beautiful widgets addon seems to have possibly caused the problem? I say uninstall to that, see what the impact will be over the next week.
Thanks ponk2k for giving me the spark I needed to potentially solve this case.

Yep, it is airpush. You can get either airpush detector or add-on detector in the market which will show you which app is causing the notification bar spam aand give you the option of deleting it or else google airpush opt out to keep the app but rid yourself of the ads

I expect you've already found it, but I used this app to find the culprit when I had airpush problems:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector
The Airpush Opt Out app doesn't seem to be available any more.

Dont forget guys that MIUI builds adds into the roms so it may not be just an app.

Amazon MP3 apk from Nexus Froyo

Not sure if this has been previously posted or if its just a regular app now, but I saw it in the new signed rom and it works on the incredible.. I will update if i find anything else that looks updated.
Its taken from this: http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-ota-42745.dc39ca1f.zip
Thanks for posting this. I had v1.1.1. Downloaded the free music and am listening to it right now.
HTC Incredible (Stock)
Can I ask how are you downloading the music for free? When I select a song I'm prompted to log-in and when I do so, it asks me to set up the 1-click payment.
EDIT: Nevermind, I see that the full discount was applied. However, I'm getting a lot of network errors when I know I'm connected. anyone else seeing this? Thanks in advance.
I seem to be getting errors too. I am on 3G. It reads:
"Failed due to network error. Retry when you are in a mobile network or Wi-Fi coverage area; roaming downloads are not supported."
I hit ok and it continues. I tried another free song and it downloads.
Shazam also does not recognize the app. It prompts me to go to the website when I hit the Amazon MP3 button.
I haven't gone so far as downloading the music but I do get the errors when searching sometimes. Seems like it might want really good signal for some reason because when I went into town it started working.
I haven't had any problems so far, been using it on both wifi and network and downloaded a full album (free one)

That's an issue with Shazam. It defaults to taking you to the website. I found it a little odd on my Droid and have seen that it's also the case on my Incredible. Contact the developers and ask for it to be added as a feature.

I emailed them I will let you know what they say.
How many free downloads does it give?
The ones I downloaded are the free song of the day.
I know there are more free songs. If you search you will find them.

I was using your apk for a few days now, but I just noticed that they finally added it to the market on the Incredible. So we don't have to go hunting for the most updated apks anymore. I'm liking version 1.7, it doesn't force close on me anymore.
This the answer I got from Shazam Support.
"Hi there
From talking to our Android development team about this issue; they’ve informed me that the fault actually lies with the Amazon application, not Shazam. We’re hoping that the Amazon application is updated soon to restore the previous level of functionality with Shazam.
Updates to the Android Shazam application are also due soon - You will be notified in-app when these updates are ready to download. I’m afraid I don’t currently have an exact date for release."
I installed the Amazon MP3 from the market and now Shazam sees it.

This app is in the market now.
I updated to 2.2 and this Amazon mp3 crap is on there and wont uninstall through normal means (same with Wave secure) How do you uninstall these *locked* apps? I thought being able to remove this crud was the whole point of rooting the device? :s

[Q] Ads in notification bar

So a few days ago I noticed ads popping up in my notification bar that lead me to various websites if clicked. I haven't installed any apps in awhile and I have no idea where they came from or how to get rid of them. They even survived the flash I did from Mik G 1.76 to 2.0. Does anyone else have this problem or has had this problem and gotten rid of it? They look like this ;
Sounds like one of your programs got linked somehow to ad spaming. Had this happen a long time ago. I also had access to the program site from my computer. There was a setting online that allowed me to recieve " mail " or offers " from there partners. Unchecked that and it all went away. But I would also suggest something like LOOKOUT. It's free on the Market.
Yikes!!.. Use Airpush detector from the Market it'll tell you which app is doing it. so you can remove that nasty stuff!
Going to have to check that out .
Thanks for the replies! Got both apps and easily fixed the problem, you each have my gratitude

I had this issue for a long time. It's a new feature that developers have a option of adding to their apps. For example if you update some new versions of apps those updates could have the new add-on in them. I thought I had fixed the issue at first also and then randomly they started appearing again. The only app so far I've found that can track down these new add-ons is addons detector from the market. Go ahead and install that just to make sure. After it searches through all of your apps filter it to "push notifications" and un-install any apps listed in there. I only found 3 apps out of almost 200 that I have installed that were causing the issue. But it is very annoying when you have things like, "you won a free ipad" ect poping up in your notification bar.
I second that. Nothing more annoying than freaking Pop ups, and unwanted adds.

Strange Gmail update?

Dear forum,
I'm having a strange issue with gmail and I haven't seen any other references on the forum.
About a week ago, Gmail auto-updated in the Play store, and since that time the icon changed to a "postage stamp" with a "G" on it. The application itself is now dark-themed in the conversation list, though the message text background is still white (the dark/light issue makes some of the text difficult to read).
This application is really broken now, and I don't see anyone else complaining about it, so I'm curious why this ended up on my tablet.
I've tried wiping the data and cache and reinstalling google apps -- the old Gmail is restored, but when I reboot the bizarro Gmail comes right back.
Has anyone experienced this? I'm worried about some malicious app update, but I'm not sure where to go from here.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I'm rooted on stock with the latest updates.

I'm afraid I haven't heard of any issue like this.
If you're reinstalling google apps (I'm assuming via flashing through a recovery), are you sure you're using an official / trusted package from a trusted source?
If the G-apps package is from a malicious or untrusted source this may explain why you can't uninstall it correctly and it has that weird type of persistence.
You can always get a trusted version of the G-apps package from the Goo Manager app from the play store (The app is free and without ads!).
I hope this helps in some way. Sorry I can't offer a more direct answer

Forced Spam Apps?

My phone will, when using various apps I've been using for years, suddenly open the play store and redirect me to Candy Crush or Caesar's slots. I'm getting sick of this. Does anyone know why this is happening? Lookout hasn't found any viruses or anything.

Try AirPush detector and see if some app is causing it to happen.
I actually had this happen from the browser. A damn play store "pop up". Surprised the hell out of me. Was also for candy crush. I also have pop ups disabled. I noticed this happen after I defaulted play links to the store. Must somehow disable the check.
Wow these adware companies are getting even more aggressive now a days
Same issue here.
Uninstalled everything except stock Google apps and same thing happening with pop up (candy crush), so I guess whatever is installed can't be uninstalled! Airpush or Ad detector software can't find the culprit either.
This is a huge security issue..... Reporting to Google
Browsers do it too... Doesn't have to be an app. It's a redirect "popup" avoiding standard android popup detection. I found this out by getting one before I defaulted links the play store. I actually got asked one time lol. The security issue would be a redirect to an actual infested page, which the built in popup blocker does block. The problem lies in the call of playstore only through playlink, which really can't cause harm being it can only show you the app, nothing further. Would be nice if fixed... Simply set to ignore non user clicked playlink pushes and implement a touch check.

I thought it was the browser I was using (Next), but problem persists across chrome and boat so I think it's some stealth junk installed in my system.
Google needs to find a fix for this, especially when airpush and ad detector apps can't resolve.
It isn't any stealth junk. Its browsing. Http. Port 80. The interwebs. Ect. Ect. It is not an app. It is not a service. Hence airpush or ad detectors will not detect it. Simply a link.

You seem knowledgeable. How is it fixed? Simple restore of browser settings??

Pop-Up ads appearing on home screen and over apps

Since yesterday I've been getting ads that pop up over any and every app when I start them.
I've had this happen from an app I installed once before and uninstalling fixed it, but this time I tried uninstalling everything I've installed or updated in the past 2 weeks but they still keep popping up.
And none of the ad detectors can find these type of ads so does anyone know how to track the source?
Also this is the app I had and removed months ago that gave same problems https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=game.gles.rubikcube
Some apps running in the background causes this. Uninstall all the free app or cracked apps from your phone
I've uninstalled everything from 2 weeks before it started, and it isn't just cracked apps that cause it like you'll see by looking at the comments of the app I linked to.
So I need a way to find the app or process to find it.

You can try this:
- Install Shortcut Master app.
- Open Menu > Capture Shortcut. Here you can select 'Manually capture' and 'Auto capture', which one is suitable for you.
That way you can capture the shortcut when the ads appear. You can also know which app that the ads belong to.
i have the same problem, when i unlock th phone appear chrome window with ads, or suddenly a window over any aplication that i use inthat moment.
dam.
Samsung is adding support for ad blocking to its browser app on Android.
News detail
The first content blocker available for Samsung's Internet is Adblock Fast, which is also available for iOS and Chrome and Opera on the desktop.
